Allie - Was that hearing that was 'supposed' to take place today a "Rule Nisi" hearing? That would have meant (or should have) that a Judge would have been involved, he/she might have decided to go on with it without them. But, normally that only happens if their are minor children involved, so that the defendant (usually the husband) has to leave the home and also ordered to pay an amount as 'child support' and 'keep on paying the rent or mortgage' or other things that the wife would not have enough $$$ to pay (say, if she was a stay-at-home mother. IF they had decided to go ahead and do it, TomCat would be 'temporarily' bound by the 'order' ... in some states probably called a "Nisi Decree." In GA, a decree of a divorce can be taken 'if' the defendant (TomCat) had not answered your complaint within a certain number of days. But, GA law might be totally different that CONN. law. So, again, I am NOT giving 'legal advice'. Just saying what the progress is down here or how it normally goes down, down here.
You'd have to find out from your attorney if a Judge could order him to pay 'temporary support' himself, since they did not show up (other than they did have an 'emergency excuse/reason'; then, and additional 15 days, if there has been no 'answer' filed, the Judge can issue a decree of divorce and order the parties to come up with a settlement agreement, or take it to civil court. There might be a certain length of time ordered to file one. In some states they have what is called a "Cooling Off Period" might be a few months to a year before a divorce becomes final. But, the parties are able to move on with their lives ... even 'date', if they choose to. But, a lot of time that only serves to piss off the defendant (TomCat) into doing something 'stupid'. Become physical abusive stalking, raping, or at the worst - killing, or a myriad of just 'irrataing things - such as browbeating you to agree to 'his' terms. Need to get TomCat OUT OF THAT HOUSE. But, as it stands, without an order forcing him (or even you) out of the house, you both have the right to stay there. But, I would make sure to the 'lock' on the bedroom door. Calling 9-1-1 if his temper gets 'out of hand'.
GGGRRRRrrrrrrrrr!!!!! This just makes me dislike TomCat even more ... and I don't even know him.0 -
This is something that saddens my heart to the core. A 16- or 17-year-old girl was killed yesterday while driving and texting. The man she hit head-on saw what she was doing and tried to avoid it. He is hurt pretty badly. Second day of school, too. Louis came home and told me that. He said, 'ndt that one [DDnL#1] down there is an accident waiting to happen'.
Her cellphone is 'on' and 'on FB' 24/7 ... I kid you not! One day she was driving my car and we were going to Americus to shop and her phone dinged and she turned and said, "I really need to respond to this; it might be to set up an interview'. When she got off it, she 'turned it off'. I'm sure that she saw the 'look on my face'. It was raining cats and dogs and you could not see the road.
Maybe 'that' is why our 16-year-old granddaughter does not want to drive. She'd rather 'text' than 'drive'; and, she knows she can't do both. I think she has until the end of this month to get her DL or she'll have to wait until she is 18 to get a permanent DL. "IF" she were my daughter, I'd take her cellphone away from her until she did learn well enough to pass the driving portion of the test. IF she did not want to drive after that ... then I would not be driving her to the next county to visit with her boyfriend. YES, I am 'heartless'.
Now I am going to just 'chill'2 -

Good evening Ladies!
Bless me Ladies for I have sinned....I ate a huge hunk of cake at work today. It was like I was possessed! My coworkers had a cake for my birthday today (my birthday was last month and they forgot) and after I served everyone they told me I had to take the remainder home. I then proceeded to eat chunks of it all afternoon. All that sugar made me feel awful, mentally and physically. I came home, logged it and then did double my elliptical time. No desire for dinner. I have no idea what came over me. So much for maintenance.
Dorrie, wow, that was some first date! Glad you had such an awesome time. Vegas gives you so many fun options.
Allie, perhaps Tom hired a cheap lawyer, from Groupon perhaps? I could be missing something but hasn't he been dragging his feet? Maybe he really doesn't know what he is doing. You get what you pay for and I get the impression that Tom is a tightwad. This could bode well for you and not for Him. Just expressing a thought I had.
Tere, Happy Birthday!! Dress that new body of yours in an awesome smaller outfit for your birthday celebration.
Heather, spectacular pictures. Enjoy!
Love and hugs to everyone.

Lanette, Charlie really doesn't talk much about all the social part of a holiday. I think he goes mainly for the food. Since we give couple gifts, it is usually something for the home so he just gives it to me to open it. Sometimes I remind him that it is for both of us. But since we get the stockings handed out first, he just started eating the candy and just zones out, he knows this year he may need to be of more assist in the kitchen. Michelle and my sister's daughter in law who had a heart attack this year are the main cooks. Stacy still isn't feeling well at all and we aren't sure if she and Michelle can handle it. I have told Christina she needs to help more which would also get my grand kids in the kitchen which I think is very important to grand kids. But it's mainly the food he is there for. One year we had had, let's say a disagreement, and he refused to go to my sisters house for Thanksgiving. He was shocked I went ahead and went. I wasn't going to take him a nice meal but Mom insisted on it.
Heather, thanks so much for the lovely pictures. Glad you finally got WiFi. You said your DH was in the tower. Is that that big thin tower that is behind and very above you in the pic? Wow! I love your walking shoes!
Dori, or was it Rori, your date sounds very romantic. Here's to many more. Who was the lady here that had a relationship with a rich Italian guy who treated her like a queen?
Allie, you aren't going to tell us what kind of house Tom's snuggle bunny has????? Enquirer g minds want to know.
About the BC fires. Some of you may have seen them on face book but there is a rescue called Timy Kittens that rescue feral cats, give them the medical care they need, neuter them and then release them back to the colony. Well they have had to have a huge feral cat rescue from the fires. The videos of these cats and kittens are precious. It's tinykittnes.com I think. One of the other rescues they had they and two pregnant mommies. They return e adults but they try to socialize the kittens and adopt them out. Well one of the adult males was very ill and they didn't want to return him to the wild. But he refund himself and became Grandpa Mason to the kittens and assisted in socializing them and is so alive with being a cat now. His kidney disease has gotten so much better and he still isn't sure of adults but he loves all kittens and is very comfy in his human home.
My sis and I went to the church fellowship hall that we are looking at for our Christmas dinner. We will have to put some baby gates in front of a couple of doors but I think it will work. We are just waiting for approval from the Dad of this autistic girl. The kitchen will be much better for us. It has two complete working stoves!!!!!!!!

Where I live it is illegal to be on your phone and drive. People still do, but happily, some get charged.
And as for the granddaughter ... get her a bicycle to get around.
I drive a motor vehicle about once a year just to kind of refresh my skills a tiny bit ... I don't want to entirely forget how. But aside from that, I haven't really driven a motor vehicle since 2010. And for 6 years between 1999 and 2005, I didn't own a car at all. Coincidentally those were among my most slender adult years.6 -
Washington State just put into effect very strict laws about "distracted driving" - included are handheld cellphones and texting which are primary offenses. The law covers anything that will pull attention away from the driver - which might include eating, drinking coffee/beverages, reading books, putting on makeup as secondary offenses if the driver is pulled over for something else, or in an accident, etc.
I remember when the seat belt law first went into effect, people protested that they'd rather be "thrown clear" than trapped in a vehicle...and in some cases that's probably true.
Our county seems to have two or three people killed on railroad tracks each year. One year, in separate incidents, a couple teens were walking down the tracks with headphones on and didn't hear the train whistle - or feel the rumble as the train approached. I can't recall any that were officially suicides.
Stay safe, ladies!

Happy birthday, Tere!
Cris - We had a big b-day cake at work for all the July b-day people. It was in a fridge in a back storage area behind the basketball court. Not far enough for me to resist! I had 3 big pieces over the course of the week and I paid for it with a 3 pound gain! Hope your one day of weakness doesn't do much damage!
Allie - thinking of you.

Hey ladies,
Just checking in having fun just soaking up my son and wife's awesomeness! Twp great people! Even if I didn't have them as my son and daughter in-law, I would like them as friends! This morning my son poured his wife cereal and so all she did was walk in and take her bowl. She says," thanks babe". Too cute!
I have never poured cereal for my husband never. Haha!
Tomorrow the kids venture to Vancouver, Washington, to look for apartments. I hope it goes smoothly for them!
Roasted a half a chicken today, then combined steamed broccoli, the chicken shredded and rice. Ate one bowl and made three others for the freezer!
Hugs to ya all!

I just hate what cell phones have done to people in general. You are with a person, having a conversation with them then your phone rings or vibrates, beeps, etc. all of a sudden your person you are having a meaningful conversation with is gone. They are dismissed. A parent having to leave the supper table, a family out to eat and everyone is on their phone in some way. Chirldren are left on ire own when Mom and Dad are on the phone. I have seen what looks like single Dads with their kids for the weekend and they are ignoring the kids. You hear business dealings on the phone when you are out to eat, in the line at a store, etc. I know some calls are important. I carry mine in the choir with me in cas Charlie needs me. But it would be his number only that I would pick up. Well maybe my own kids since they know where and Why Mom is there. They have totally destroyed the intimacy of friends, a couple, a family life. And why text everyone when it is so nice to hear their voice? I could go on and on. Now my sister's husband has this rule of no phone calls after 9 PM. Her and I have figured out we can text each other instead of calling. So that is one instance when it does come in handy. If I were a nurse and had to monitor my staff and their cell phones, they would be turned into the head nurse so many times. I remind many years ago when kids had those electronic animals that had to be fed, played with, put to bed, sometimes cleaned up. If you waited to many hours, the animal lost its 'life'. Well when kids were in school, Moms had t do these duties. Oh, they were in so much trouble when we caught them. They are not paid up to $20 and hour to feed their kids electronic animal.
Allie, we are all rooting for you tomorrow. Some one said that we are your armor of women. Keep that thought in mind. On another forum I am on, if we are going through something, our forum buddies go along with us in our pockets. All you had to do was touch your pocket and feel our strength for you. Good luck. You have prepared for it, you have a good lawyer and she has prepared for it. Just stick to your guns and you will co,e through it on the other side smiling and taking a deep breath. Lots of love and strength going your way via this forum. Women from all over the world are with you. Who can beat that!!!!!
Joyce, Indiana school starts tomorrow so watch out for kids at the bus stop.mthat stop arm is there for a reason.5 -

Still smoke and fires -- sorry that the air is not better yet. It rained here.
Forum in your pocket-such a great good thought.
Everywhere we go there are kids on electronics and people sitting staring at their phones. I would too but I can never find my phone. I am thinking fondly of the days when the phone was on the wall in the kitchen. We didn't even have an answering machine all those years. My car has the On-Star feature and that has been great the 2 times I needed it. I guess I am old enough or so old that I am a little irked that you can't talk to other people, especially children, without them seeming to be too busy on the phone playing.
Well, my day is about to begin. I got up to let the dogs out, check the news, check the weather. Time to read the paper and get started on trash and floors. This seems destined to be a running around sort of day.0 -
Went swimming at 7am. Then line dancing. Just had a lecture on Helsinki and now waiting for one on Hitler invading Russia.

A slightly different perspective on the phone thing ...
I'm sure there might be people who look at my husband and me in restaurants, as we sit there on our phones, and wonder why we're doing that and not talking to each other. But they don't know what we've done in the hours leading up to sitting in the restaurant.
Quite often we've driven there from some distance away, and have been talking for some time in the car ... or cycled there, and we chat now and then as we cycle ... or we've been walking or hiking somewhere, and we talk when we do that. Prior to going to a restaurant, we've usually spent the day together, talking and experiencing life together.
Then, at the restaurant, we're taking a little break and catching up with our friends and family online ... for a while. Once the meal is served we're usually back to talking to each other. And even when we're on our phones while we're waiting for the meal to be served or during coffee after, we're sharing what we read and see with each other.
So from the outside it may look like we're a couple that wants nothing to do with each other because we're sitting on our phones ... but nothing could be further from the truth. All onlookers are seeing is just a brief moment in our day ... not the whole day.
That said, I do find it a bit irritating if friends or family have invited us out for a meal or over to their place ... and they spend time on the phone. If we have guests, the phones disappear.5 -

NSV: I wore my size 18 capris yesterday! I have been living in yoga pants for about a year, because my size 18's got too tight and uncomfortable. Losing just 6 pounds in two weeks has put me back in them! I will try my jeans later this week or next (they always fit a bit more snug than the capris).
DD lost four pounds our first week and then a 1/2 pound this past week. She admitted she didn't plan her meals this past week and didn't make the best choices. She was a bit depressed about the fact that I lost more than her (and I think a little angry; she is very competitive). I simply told her, that I know that when she puts her mind to doing this and sticking to making good choices that the weight is going to fall off rather quickly. She has always been headstrong and driven and I think that can work for her.
NSV #2! I figured out why my MFP app wasn't working on my phone! For some reason, I would try to log in and it would never let me. So...I got rid of the app a couple weeks ago. Last night, I was looking through PlayStore and saw MFP for android. So, I installed that free app and BINGO! I now have mfp on my phone! That is going to make travel much easier.
See?! An old dog CAN learn a new trick!
Chris- You had your cake and ate it too! And you logged it! And you added extra exercise! Dust yourself off and call it good!
HeatherLove your pictures so far! I also think it is wonderful that your cruise offers lectures on the places you are visiting! I love those kind of tours; I think it makes a trip so much more memorable if you can tie events and people to places and cities/buildings! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
Josephine- I know what you mean about people on phones. I had a hard time when I was traveling to Texas to visit my DD. Sitting in airports, train stations all day and everyone was looking at their phones. The one time I made eye contact with another person my age, who wasn't on her phone, she ended up being a Jehovah's Witness and spent some time trying to show me videos and tell me about the big JC. I appreciate what she is/was trying to do. A woman of conviction. But, I was just looking to talk to another human being about travel, airports, destinations, etc.
Cell phones and technology- My kids were already hs and college age when smart phones came out. I think because they didn't grow up with them, they weren't and aren't as attached as the younger group tends to be. They use them a lot; but they are able to put them aside and do things with out them. As most of you know, the effects of advancing technology on children's brains is something I am very interested in. I have mentioned before that new studies are coming out in regards to the connections that children's brains are making due to technology and the connections that aren't being made. They are finding that kids who spend a lot of time in front of screens, on tablets, on smart phones are in a constant state of stimulation. They are missing any sort of "delayed gratification" because everything is instantaneous online. The constant stimulation is addictive and when they don't have it, they sort of shut down or go through withdrawals because they don't know what to do with them selves. There is also a disconnect in personal interaction due to time spent on technology. I am a firm believer in no screen time before age two (includes tv) and limited screen time from then on. Kids pick up stuff very quickly. If tech use is delayed until school age, no harm will come to your child and he will not be "behind" the other kids. Oh well, that is my vent/passion. LOL! Sorry kind of intense for me.
Kids arriving soon. gotta get busy. Making slime today! Woo-hoo! KJ (Kelly)7 -

I agree with you. My brother and I rarely watched TV growing up. I know we didn't have a TV at all from the time I was 9 until I was about 15, but even before the age of 9 it seems to me there were only a few shows we were allowed to watch. Most of the time we were encouraged to get out and play ... and to amuse ourselves! If we uttered the words "I'm bored", my mother would have a list of chores we could do. As a result of that, I've hardly ever been bored ... I can always find something to do.
Anyway, the two of us did pick up technology just fine, as it was coming out, and I'm working toward a Master's in IT now, so I don't think we've ended up behind.
Personally, if I had kids, I'd want them to focus more on picking up things like swimming, music, and languages. They'll get the tech stuff quite naturally as they move through the school system.
Have fun making the slime!!

DH and I went to a Jive class. We were terrible, but so was everyone else!
Just had a lecture on Nordic architecture and design. I will do a stretch class at 4.45.
Sooooooo busy. I walked my mile as well. Glad for a rest now.
Last night's Elvis tribute was good, but unfortunately it triggered a PTSD flash back in me and it ended up with me verbally horribly abusing DH. He was very upset and needed a lot of calming down. He seems ok now and I did try to explain what happened. I have mainly managed to control myself with DH, but this time I was beyond it. I even scared myself! (For the newbies, I was sexually abused by my father as a child and Elvis was one of my refuges and great loves. The performer made fun of one of my favourite songs, Love Me Tender - it brought back memories of my bedroom at home ) DH was confused at my upset and I blamed him for not being sympathetic.
I think we are over it now.
Stockholm tomorrow. I will have to do some homework as our lectures are one ahead, so it's a bit confusing. We have more than one day there.
Joyce - The shoes are the ones I bought when I flew to La Rochelle. They have gold flashes on them and metal bits. Very bling, but, fortunately, very comfortable. I wear them with the elasticated arch supports from Amazon, which are life and pain savers, . Couldn't do without them.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx. Currently coasting round Sweden.1 -

~ Gris in MA - Yes, Vegas is a great place for lots of fun activities - even if it's just people watching!
~ Joyce in IN - I'm not sure if "romantic" would be correct, but I like whatever this is very much...he's very much a man's man...maybe my idea of "romantic" is different than others...he's not afraid of PDA (public displays of affection), he's a gentleman, he's hilarious, and his energy is a good fit for mine. I keep pinching myself...we even had a quick bite/snack last night after I got home and he didn't want to let the day go by without giving me a hug...so, yes I guess you can say he's romantic! I'm very excited to see what happens next!

Blech ... I lost my voice. NOT a good time right now to come down with a cold ... so busy ... but colds don't pick the best moments, do they?
I didn't log my food today ... I headed straight for the comfort foods. Chicken noodle soup, toast with honey ... and a burrito. Yeah ... Mexican food is a comfort food for me.

~ Machka - nothing wrong with that when you don't feel well...could be worse! You could have no appetite, which in turn has a negative benefit for me...I'm always happy to see the scale go down, but then when I can eat again, it goes right back up... HANG IN THERE! Colds attack us when we're too busy to take care of ourselves...natures way of telling us to slow down to a manageable pace...hopefully your cold passes quickly!3
