Newbies, welcome one and all! Just bookmark the thread and come back often, as we are quite the chatty bunch. In a week Barbie will post the link to the new month's thread, so watch for that! Then you bookmark the new thread and unbookmark the old one to stay current. My name is Karen, I have been up and down weight-wise over the years. Currently on my way down again, slowly, paying attention to food choices and portion sizes. I exercise 4-5 days a week at Jazzercise and have an "on your feet" kind of job, so I don't sit much at work. At home I have to remind myself to putter rather than sit, not always successful at that.
Today the grandkids are over, happy, happy day! We are watching cartoons right now, and have been running outside every few minutes to see the progress the tree trimmers are making. It's transforming our yard. I can almost hear the trees saying thank you. It was overdue. These guys are from Arborscapes, and they are spectacular.
Working again in the a.m., so will miss a Jazzercise class
Some of you may remember that I was afraid our oldest Yorkie was failing and would not be here much longer. Well, the little bugger has perked up and is downright friskie and puppy-like. He has gained a bit of weight and seems as well as a 15 year old Yorkie can be expected to be. I make his food for him, a low phosphorous diet of rice, eggs, chicken, yogurt (yes, the homemade stuff), and supplements. Can't believe how well he is doing! We have a reprieve, at least for now!

Right? What better way to control healthcare costs than for everyone to take responsibility for their own well-being?

~ Rhonda, Terry, langman22, paulag - WELCOME! I'm "fairly" new too and my advice is to just jump right in! Don't worry about trying to keep up - these ladies are pretty active in their posts, and I'm often not able to respond to everyone individually. Don't feel bad if you don't! You're with a great group!
~ Lisa - that T-shirt tapestry ROCKS!!
~ Machka - thanks for sharing your experience with loose skin and how long it takes to "tighten" back up. My daughter is down 180+ pounds (gastric sleeve) since November, and is very depressed about all her loose skin. She feel fantastic tho, and I've explained to her that she needs to now focus much more on strength training, and WAIT to have skin removal surgery. I reminded her a good friend also had significant skin problems after having a similar weight loss in a short period of time, and she had skin removal surgery within 6 mo's of reaching her "goal" weight - unfortunately, that didn't do much for when she continued to lose MORE weight, and had no muscle tone or definition. NOW she's got all the scars from the surgery, but still has sagging skin. She'd have to have surgery again to correct it. Instead, she has waited, got into a workout routine, and has "tightened" up the skin on her arms and legs as much as possible, and her midsection too. Thanks for sharing your encouragement!
~ Janet - you continue to inspire me! I'd forgotten that you'd had both knees replaced after your tremendous weight loss. I'd love to learn more about this, since I've been extremely reluctant (as you may have read) to consider surgery. I wouldn't dream of it until I get rid of about 60 to 70 more pounds at least. Then I'd be under 200# again. I'd be concerned of how long recovery would be, and gaining anything back while regaining strength and mobility. Maybe you could expound for me about your journey with knee replacements!?!
~ Karen - that's EXCELLENT news about your Yorkie!!!

Karen in VA ~ Do you give the Yorkie raw eggs? I basically feed the Pom the same thing....rice, cooked chicken, and a tiny bit of ham. Do you mix it all together...eggs, yogurt, rice, and chicken?1

Oooouuuufff! Knackered.
Wonderful long day at the zoo. Over 6 hrs in total. Came back and relaxed with Snow White.
While DH was reading a bedtime story I made gingerbread dough for cutting, baking and decorating tomorrow morning. Then after lunch we leave to give them back to DS halfway between us.
Amazing and adorable, but phew!!!!!
Will post pics from my phone.

Happy Wednesday dear friends. The eclipse was very interesting. DGD got here right in the middle of it. Traffic was terrible.
They got my dept done and us moved back. So very happy about that. Just now ajust to the differences. Nice and clean and bright.
Joyce-- have you checked with the company that makes the meds? They have programs that help pay for them or get them free. Hope your leg is better. Being in pain effects everything we do. Hugs!
DJ--Great news about your results. The hospital I work at had an party on top of the parking garage for the eclipse and gave everyone a moon pie. I gave mine to DH.
Katla and Heather-- I get the flu shot every year as the hospital I work at says if you do not get one you have to wear a mask whenever at work until flu season is passed acorrding to the health dept. Added bonus is the hospital gives them to us free.
Heather--Looks like everyone is having a good time at the zoo.
Janet--So pretty and reminds me that the holidays are coming fast. I have at least 5 christmas socking to get done this year.
Rori--sending hugs and prayers. You are doing fantastic. I like the One Day at a time. Thats all I can do most days.
Becca--Very good picture of you and dear son. Thanks for sharing. Hope the letter was waiting for you at home.
Welcome Terry-- This is a great group. I have lost over 100 pounds and still need to lose about 70-80 more. My doctor keeps telling me to drink lots of water and walk and that will help with the skin. He also tells me that it will take around 4 years before he would consider any kind of skin surgery and if I am lucky I might not need it.
Welcome Paula--Great group here.
Karen--Great news about your yorkie.
Well ladies time to go. Thanks for being such a great group. Blessings, Vicki Grand Island,NE6 -
Hi I'm 53 and been doing this for a week. It is harder then I thought it would be but I'm still on track. I would love to be a part of this community.5

Hi to all the newbies, I'm fairly new myself. Lip is healing well. I am undecided if I will start chewing again tomorrow or if I will wait one more day. The hubs is gone until Friday, so I could just wait for him to get back. I still want to chew but I don't mind the no cooking, prep or cleanup part. Cleaning a blender and a glass is a piece of cake!4

I actually breezed thru the knee replacement surgery both times. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My surgeonn told me I needed to show the "young ones how it's done". I had right knee done in January and left done in September 2015. I followed directions from doc and physical therapist and did the exercises given me. The physical therapist came three days a week for 3 weeks I believe. I didn't gain any weight, actually lost a few due to the pain meds making me very sick. Post gastric by-pass, I've had to be very careful with meds as they tend to cause overdose type problems. I think too, part of it was my knees had been bone on bone for years and getting to the point of excruciating pain and my legs we beginning to bow. So the pain after surgery was not really that much different. I'm so so glad I had them replaced.
