I have been struggling lately, stress has hit me hard and I'm wanting to turn to my old friend of alcohol. So far I have had 3 drinks since September 28th. Not the goal that I was hoping for but it's much better than my old normal of 3 drinks per night, or 1 bottle of wine.5

This is day 4 of not drinking for me. Why does it feel like so much longer than that? I can do this. I have to. If I don't then nothing will ever change for me. So, I'm doing this.6

This challenge is harder for me than keeping my food intake down as I am used to having as little as 2 beers to as many as 6 beers a night almost every night. It is a pattern I've inherited from my family (a large portion obese) that at the end of the day 2 beers help unwind you from a stressful day. In that "tradition" I have developed a beer pouch. So I am in, I want to at least reduce to only weekends. Hopefully it'll enable me to see some difference.
We can do this! We are all in this improvement path...2 -

Yes! My challenge and goals as well...my high blood pressure is likely contributed by my drinking1 -

You’re doing great! I also had several drinks this month, which is up from 0 last month. But it’s much better than where I was a few months ago with daily wine. If it were easy, we wouldn’t need a thread on it!

Day 50 for me. Yay! A daily drinker for 25+ years, surrounded by high functioning daily drinkers. The "start tomorrow" gang always hovering close by. Every day that went by, was another day I didn't follow my dreams, goals or passions.
Now, I'm 50 days closer to achieving them. I'm exercising, eating healthy, loosing weight, sleeping well, off the sleeping pills and my mind is clear. I'm preparing myself to do what I love most and I will be healthy and fit.
Drinking is a ball and chain. It will hold you down. Good luck to all of you!15 -
Hi everyone,
This is my first post ever on MFP. Saturday 10/21 I will be 4 weeks sober!!!!12 -
Checking in. Doing well...not perfect, but much improved. Started this challenge on 8/29 and had 3 drinks total in Sept and 2 so far this month (celebrating my anniversary). That's a big switch from almost daily drinking. For those who are struggling with an all or nothing mindset, please don't despair. You are not a failure...keep at it!! You may stumble here and there, or simply make a conscious choice to imbibe, but the overarching goal is to work on this behavior that had slipped into becoming a mindless, unhealthy habit. I'm trying to take back the power to decide rather than relying on always drinking default mode! Like @cmeride wrote, drinking can easily become a ball and chain. It's Oct 17...let's press on!9

I'm in. This is the reason why I gained weight in the first place.
I find social pressure is difficult, a lot of what my friends do is go to the bar. It's hard being the only one not drinking or staying at home to avoid it and being left out.
But I am fed up with being overweight and unhealthy, time for some changes.

I have gained weight to cause it leads to unnecessary munching....coupled with no exercise...we have a recipe for disaster3 -
One week sober! Wooooooo! I'm feeling pretty damn good about myself right now. One week without a drink might seem like small beans to some, but I assure you it's very large beans to me. I'm not sure why I'm talking about beans. I'm just excited!10

Almost went all of Friday night without thinking of drinking! My mind is starting to shift away from weekend=drinking, which I am really excited about.5
