I'm grateful for this thread. I joined it with the intention of not drinking at ALL throughout October, but not to beat myself up if I DID have a drink. The important thing for me is to ENJOY a drink without feeling like I need to have another and another.

Because of this thread I find myself asking questions each time I think I want to drink of an evening. Do I REALLY want alcohol, or do I just want something that tastes nice. That COULD be a nice glass of wine, or it could just as easily be a mug of hot chocolate, or a glass of juice

This thread is great. I am definitely down for November. I am trying to taper off and then abstain. I tried cutting back, but that is not going to work. So tired of trying and succeeding during the day only to destroy progress with alcohol and overeating (because of alcohol) every night. Great thread.

I've been sober since may 12 2017. I have lost a total of 30 pounds in those 5 months. Who knew that it would help that much?! 20 pounds to go!

Wow, that is amazing and absolutely inspiring!

I intend to abstain for November to help with some weight loss, except for one day when I'm having people over to my house to celebrate my birthday. My SO is abstaining with me. Looking forwards to a November thread!

I don’t know about anyone else but I find that I “obsess” about something when I can’t have it. I have been abstaining from alcohol during the week but now that Friday is here I am allowing myself to have two glasses a night. That is cutting back for me( I think I was easily having a bottl before). I also am putting it in my Fitbit tracker so the calories are counted for. I really want to lose weight but I just want to find a balance so I can maintain it. I also feel like I eat more when I quit drinking so I have to cut back on the food too☺️

Well, I'm back from my cruise. I did have about five drinks, but I didn't feel the need to finish them. I've been a 2-3 drinks a night for years so I'm not going to beat myself up over my indulgence. Bring on November.

    Great thread!!!
I managed to NOT have a glass of wine this past week which is huge for me - husband too! Last night - er, Friday night!! We did enjoy a nice Syrah but in moderation. Yay.

Hi Everyone. I will start a November thread for us. To easily find it, it will have the same name: Sober November 2017. I will work on it now.

Thank you Salleewins for creating this group. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/123400-sober-november-2017

Today is day 60 for me. I'm down 14lbs and feel great. I'm definitely in for Sober November.

Congrats, to those of you who are able to drink in moderation. I'm surrounded by alcohol and its very hard to pick and choose when I'll drink and when I won't. Much easier for me to set targets and completely abstain.

For everyone, who has who accomplished your goals for October, well done! :)

For those all of you who are choosing to be alcohol free in November. Good luck and all the best!

Well last night was a reminder of WHY I wanted to cut back.

Met some friends in the pub, during the second beer I was starting to feel the effects, thankfully we wisely left to start cooking some food.

The downfall came when waiting for the meal to cook. An hour and a half with more than one gin and tonic. Whose idea was it to follow beer with gin and tonic?!!

So I switched to red wine once we’d fonished the meal. An even worse decision, as then came the nausea and as anticipated, some ‘praying to the bog god’ (being sick whilst drinking excessively is quite a common experience for me).

So today I started with a hangover. We went for a walk up a hill to work it off which really helped, but not sure the burger fries and enormous milkshake helped at lunch!!!

A classic reminder of why restricting drinking (it was an expensive Bordeaux which was wasted) is the plan for me.

Thanks everyone for this thread! I've been following and it's very inspiration for me. Completely sober October didn't happen for me (had only 1 over indulgent night though!!) but I'm all in for November!

Had a very small glass of wine with Sunday roast today, but was perfectly happy to stick at one.

Will carry on in November, this thread is helping me to reconsider how I approach alcohol.

Looking forward to a mostly sober November. I just hopped on the mindful moderation bandwagon a week or so ago and have been doing better than I expected. Made it until Friday night alcohol free. Had one pint of beer after work Friday (I tend bar at a local brewery part time). Saturday was a bust, went out for a mug or two with the hubs Saturday, ended up taking a growler home and polished that off. Oddly enough, that was considerably less than we usually drink on a weekend. Still ended up with a helluva headache Sunday a.m. Sunday, which is usually beer and wine soaked, was actually what I would consider a success, compared to my norm. Two beers with friends in the afternoon, 2 glasses of wine with dinner, then called it quits. So, while not the best weekend, definitely way less booze than typical, and I'm rethinking about my habits. I'm planning on a better week this week!
