Honor Run half marathon today. The race was in support of veterans and I was running this race in honor of my father. No expectations of a PR for multiple reasons, but I was pleased with my results on a fairly hilly course and sub freezing temps. I finished in 1:41:30 which earned me 2nd in my age group and 8th female over all (out of 319). Considering that I have done no legitimate speed work other than a couple of treadmill intervals since Feb, I am feeling pretty pleased. My inability to get my hamstrings completely healed have left me feeling a little uncertain about my running abilities these days, so it was nice to see that I am not that far off of PR pace, even without optimal training.
@_nikkiwolf_ You lost me at " If those alligator walks ever get too easy..." LOL17 -

Nice job at your HM today @lporter229! Impressive time and congrats on 2nd in AG and 8th female - very cool! I can't even imagine that kind of pace, so great work.

I had my half marathon today as well. It turned out to be a great day for running. Started out at 27 degrees F, warmed up a bit, but the sun was out and I was pretty appropriately layered (except taking gloves on and off many times).
The race felt rough though. My quads felt really tight at about mile 6, and it was a struggle from then on. My friend I was running with kept up a steady stream of conversation and encouragement so I kept going. I really didn't want to walk because then I'd NEVER finish. Miles 11 and 12 were the slowest of the day and then we picked up a bit when the finish line was coming into sight. I was never so happy to be done - 2:29, which wasn't my slowest so I was happy with that, but no where near my PR from last month. My friend says I shouldn't have eaten the 2 bites of donut that I grabbed during the race - that might have been my downfall.

You powered through your troubles to a finish, so I call that a WIN! Well done!1 -
@lporter229 - wow! That is amazing.
@katharmonic - Great job finishing - and not walking when you were in such pain!

@amymoreorless I had the myofascial release thing done to the top of my hamstring. Basically pressure was pushed right into my buttocks and slightly massaged for about a minute.
I could barely sit for three days, then was REALLY struggling to walk. Like my legs felt all loose and weak and I had to relearn how to walk!
Not so sure about it after that!!!1 -
I am hopelessly behind after being gone all last week traveling for business. I have read back some to catch up a little. It does look like lots of great running has been happening. Congratulations to all of you who have been racing or just racing against yourself for PRs!
I want to weigh in on the discussion on hamsters, guinea pigs and rats I found while searching for my previous running post (yes it was that long ago!). We had hamsters (my husband and I) for many years when we were first married. They were pretty cute and fun to watch but you couldn't really hold and interact with them. Our daughter had guinea pigs and even babies when we purchased one that was unexpectedly pregnant. That was actually awesome, they were SO cute and our dog at the time decided he had to help take care of them. In HS she did a Science Fair experiment that took her to State by training rats. They were actually my favorite, they didn't smell at all, kept their cages very clean and some of them (blue rats) were gorgeous. They were SO smart too. She taught them all kinds of things; they knew their names and would come when called, they did all kinds of tricks and even learned how to open their cages and then stay. We ended up with 42 of them over the holidays and she decorated the cages for Christmas.
@_nikkiwolf_ - I wash my rain jacket periodically but I use Nathan's sport wash so it doesn't affect the rain repellent. Still I have had it probably 5 years now and it is not as good as it used to be. I also don't put it in the drier.
Even with traveling and not running much I am still having issues with tightness in my quads and right hip. During yesterday's run my right hamstring got really cranky and today it is sore and my legs just feel achy. I am not sure what is going on but I would sure like to fix it - anyone have any ideas? I am continuing to stretch and roll as the doctor advised. I have a HM (one of my favorites) in mid-December. I have legacy status having run it every year since the first and this will be my 5th year running it. I would love a PR but at this point just hope I will be able to run and finish it.
I am off to Montreal again in the morning so I won't likely be around much again this next week. I am of course taking running clothes with me to get in at least a few workouts in the gym, even if slow and short. Hoping this will be the end of traveling for a while, maybe until after the holidays. If not there is no way I will make my goal this month as it is iffy already.

@katharmonic and @Iporter229 great HM. No runs for me this weekend but plenty of yard Work. Doctor's appointment Thursday suggested that muscle tear was small but deep and may need lots of TCL to heal fully.0

11/11 - 2.25 mi
11/12 - 1.5 mi, then 1 mi jog (not counting the jog)
The first mile of my run today was my fastest mile yet. Still only 12:22, but given that I started at an average of 16:30 6 weeks ago, I feel good about it. My jog is now the same speed as my run used to be.
My friend who's training me wants me to stick with 1.5 tomorrow and work on my speed in the last half mile (I really lost it today)

Congratulations @katharmonic and @Iporter229 - so impressive!
Nov 12 – 3.17 mile Vancouver Fall Classic 5K
My knee had been bothering me since my workout on Thursday (I wasn't able to straighten it - zoinks!). I took a couple of rest days and woke up this morning feeling great.
It was stormy and pouring rain, but the weather beings smiled on me and the rain stopped exactly as I crossed the finish line. I was so happy I had decided to put my coat in gear check.
I set a PR with a time of 39:39 (according to my Garmin - final results aren't posted yet), and it was the first race I've done with no walking. Avg hr 183, max 195. Avg pace: 12:30 min/mile; best pace: 10:14 min/mile. Feeling happy with my result!

Set out today knowing that I was leaving the house when the weather was at the high for the day (43) and would be falling as I ran. I figured I would dress for the 40s and hope for the best. I was mainly okay, but by mile ten my fingers were hurting from the cold. Need a better hand solution.
I had originally planned to attempt 15 miles at MP but by mile 6 my arthritis was flaring forcing me to take a couple short walking breaks and I knew that PR was not happening. Almost turned back, but pushed on and added a couple hills instead. As I passed mile 11 I was nearing my house in the loop and decided not to press my luck and turned in, rounding out 12 miles.8 -
@lporter229 and @katharmonic - congrats to both of you for your HMs today!
WooHoo @RunRachelleRun for your finish today - sounds like a tough one with that weather.
I had my HM today, too - my first one ever. Time was 2:31 so 11:34 min/mile. Every step after 10.5 miles was a PR for me. I am so happy that I made it through and was able to run the whole way, except when getting water. It was a beautiful day in Monterey Bay along the ocean. Started out around 53 degrees so perfect weather. Over 5,500 runners so an overall amazing experience!16 -
Way to kill it on minimal speed work @lporter229 ! And damn that donut to hell @katharmonic !!! Congrats on your first HM @shrcpr !
Long run was cut short by a certain teething girl needing me to come home and cuddle her. I had hoped to get out again at night but no such luck was to be had .
Was just reading one of the Albertan elite's accounts of the Frozen 50k I'm waiting for reg to open on and he's talking about running sub 4 minute kilometers on black ice and only falling once...feeling like a lazy *kitten* slacker right now ...
