I did in a demo. The leave your ears open so you hear 100% of everything around you. The sound more like background music that the clear and foreground sound of regular headphones. I did not like them but if you want your ears open to the environment there is no better option.1 -
@ddmom0811 my goal in life is to be able to do a pull-up. I have no idea what to do with the rest of my life once I achieve that, but it's a while away anyway.....
With push ups, better than girly ones are doing elevated ones - so in traditional push-up pose you might start against a wall, and then as you get stronger choose a step and do that, gradually aiming to get closer and closer to the floor with each round. It will strengthen your core better than girly push-ups on the knees, and teaches the right form all the time.4 -

HA! I feel the same way. Been working on it for a while now. With the "pull up assist" machine I need 35 pounds of help. Getting there!

@JessicaMcB that letter is awesome, and your before/after is AMAZING! Now do you see why I say you are an inspiration?2

@JessicaMcB and @7lenny7 , Amazing progress pics! Jessica for about 30 seconds there I thought you were trying to pull one over on us, and that was a photo of your child or a younger sister!
@Teresa502 I thought everybody here look like an elite athlete when I first joined. But of course we all just look like normal people! My alter-ego definitely looks like Shalane Flanagan though
Post PT update: I slept very very well for the first time in months. Of course we got the new washer and dryer in, the washer is impossible to keep it from cavitating. So I'm afraid I will be schlepping to the laundromat unless we reinstall the old washer, for the weekend. Boo. Dd did all her laundry in the old one, I waited for the new one like the dumb dumb I am.3 -

I had never heard of pull up assist until recently, but my small gym doesn’t have one. Earlier this year I decided I wanted to work on pull ups and used the Zen Labs app that uses the same philosophy as C25K does for running. I started at being able to do 3 and got to the end where it had me doing 13. By the end I was supposed to be able to do 20, but I was disappointed that the program stopped at 13 and was to big of a jump to get to 20... plus, I have some arthritis in my elbows, so the pain wasn’t worth it to keep going.

Today's notes- Got up at 0415 and saw the text that my running buddy was not going to be able to join me this morning. Bummer. Then I got a good look at the thermometer...6F, OK, that's pretty normal... wait, what's that thing in front of the 6? Oh! it's -6F (-21C), Now this is going to be a good run!
Got layered up. 2 layers on bottom, 3 layers on top, balaclave, hat, gloves, light and drove to the ridge. As I approached, I could see the snow fog... yup, the snow machines were going.
Run was about a minute slower than last time. The cold and the snow slowed me down. My footing wasn't great, I'll probably have to put my Yak Tracks in the near future. I couldn't find my chest strap HRM today, so, I have no clue how my Garmin got HR data through a sweatshirt and a turtleneck. Oh well. Run was good.

@girlinahat I like your sisters mojo/attitude. Unfortunately some of the truly epic Canadian adventures are the Balanced, 3 days driving for 3 days of hiking/canoeing etc.
Not sure if this is going to link/post properly but A very short Video Clip Teaser from one of my friends in Grande Prairie with a Trail Trekkers group doing an evening Headlamp Trail Run For those who have never ran at night in the snow with a headlamp it gives a good view of how magical it is.0 -

yeah. She lives in Winnipeg......last year she did an epic explore of the Yukon, the sort of trip where no one really has a proper map for..

Last minute work trip to Chile, not too disappointed about this but now I've got to wake up @JessicaMcB early to get my run in before I broad planes for the next 24 hours. It will make for some fun impromptu elevation training though (I'll be going from 4200' to 12500') so I'm hoping that doesn't kill me. If my recovery/endurance can handle it I should be able to get all my running in around work and I'm really hoping I'm allowed to go run out in the Atacama desert (the mine is on the edge of it) but we will have to see.8

11/10 - Cross training: Bodypump and CX Works + 10 minutes on treadmill walking with steep incline.
Back to my bodypump class this morning for cross training. Looking forward to my long run tomorrow. 9 miles this time, and if my schedule cooperates, I'll do it on part of the HM course. It's a bit of a drive north for me to that path, but it really helped my head in the last 10k to have been on the course before. Plus, it's something different to look at!

@katharmonic I have a pair of "true wireless" headphones by Sound Peats. I have had them a month or so and really like them. There is a piece for each ear, but I only use one so I can have one ear free, but there is no cord connecting them, so it's just a single piece. They weren't expensive or fancy and get the job done. They have the ear hook thingy so I don't worry about it falling out, and they are easy to pair to my phone.

You actually can click them all btw...
You certainly can but since it only logs the last one you click there's not much point... ;-)
At least that's the way it works on my phone and computer
@Azercord I am very jealous! I'm looking forward to pix!4 -

Well if I could do 3 to start, I would not use the machine, but without a jump I can not even do one. I like to get to the point I can do 2 - 3 sets of 8-10 but that might take more dedication to the goal than I can muster. Right now, target is 1. Baby steps.4 -

@Dazzler21 nice running. your 26.2 on the 26th looks cool, all I can think is location!1

I can't wait.I am happily terrified - I know I can do the distance, just not sure if I'll get the time I have been training towards.4

Oh and it ended up being warmer than I expected. Parts of my run felt too warm for how I dressed.8 -

Careful not to do too much - remember rest is key to progression. It's when your body adapts to the strains you're putting it through.3 -
My goal is 50 miles in November. Then 100 in December. I have a 5k on Thanksgiving, a Spartan on Dec 5tg, and then my first halfmarathon on January 28th!7
-
Wanted to have another run under my belt at this point in the week, but almost half way to my goal.

@7lenny7 love your transformation too! Do you find your hunting ventures more successful/easier now? Asking for a husband haha
@girlinahat and @katharmonic I think a lot of people (especially that I know irl) are under that impression. I once had one of the women in my trail group say upon meeting me, "Oh you don't look like you used to be fat." Goddamn forgot to affix my scarlet F again . I lost the weight in 7 months and started from zero base on the back of six years of morbid obesity and three kids in three years- I very firmly believe that if I can be here anyone can . Love the pictures @girlinahat!
@MNLittleFinn What is that thing about birds of a feather flocking together . You know you are one bad *kitten* member of my (decidedly frozen faced) trail running tribe- inspiration is a two wat street!
@Elise4270 funny story but in a ketogenic dieters group I participate in outside of MFP I actually encountered a woman who was so convinced my before was my mother and I was messing with them. It got so wild I actually ended up having to provide a photo of my mother to prove I was infact just really rough looking when I was over 200lbs . My alter ego would also be a Shalane Flanagan, the woman's body is ridiculous in the best way
@fitoverfortymom I 200% agree and actually wrote on the subject after Whistler. When the publisher goes live later this month I'll let you guys know
I think my Achilles is acclimating to the 4mm drop finally, only minor pain on the 28k this morning.
Made the small people German chocolate cake pancakes when I got in and am chilling in the Harvard sweater Nelly sent me from her business trip to Boston (in a children's medium- what is up with your vanity sizing America??? lol).

@JessicaMcB me? Inspirational, I'm a foul-mouthed (not at work) special needs teacher who runs because it's better than eventually going to rehab like several coworkers have..... on US sizing... Don't get me started. I can wear a kids large, and finding pants for a short runner is a nightmare.1

@JessicaMcB I can definitely see why they were hard to convince. You definitely look much younger and your frame size doesn't look the same! @Orphia had similar results with her weight loss, she now looks like a daughter of her former self.
A very nice example of discipline and determination , you are!2 -
11/1- 25 minutes strength training (legs)+ 3.7 miles treadmill intervals
11/2-5.3 miles
11/3-5.1 miles

No running last night. I had a strange numbness in my left foot and leg from when I woke up in the morning and it sort of lingered all day. Since I had a 6:30 appointment with my trainer, I decided to make it a non-running day. She had me focus on upper body and core yesterday, but she did not take it easy on me. We started with alternating sets of 10 assisted pull-ups and alligator walks across the racquetball court and back. I am down to using the lightest weight for the assisted pull-ups and can actually bang out 10 straight which is major improvement from where I started. Maybe soon I will get brave enough to see where I am unassisted. And gosh, those alligator walks are killer! For those that don't know, these are alligator walks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KCH8ook4yk
And it only got harder from there. I am pretty sore all over today. I am contemplating an after work run, but I also decided to do a half marathon on Sunday. It's called the honor run and it's in support of housing for veterans. You can write the name of a vet on your bib that you chose to run for. I am going to run for my father who passed away in 2012.3 -
@katharmonic I have bone conduction headphones called Trekz Titanium. They aren’t uncomfortable at all, and let you hear everything around you, but like PastorVincent says, it’s like hearing background noise so would probably not be good for listening to audiobooks or podcasts (I only listen to music). I only use them for running, so if you are looking for headphones that you can also use at home or in the office, I wouldn’t recommend.4
