It's November. Get ready to be in shape for the holidays and come run with us. The most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still welcome to join us. No requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to keep you accountable and enjoy a virtual coffee with your fellow runners after you run. Make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the October 2017 Running Challenge which can be found at:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10601913/october-2017-running-challenge
Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Here are the details from last month that applies here again.
Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating one seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)
You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 200 miles. Don't let my high (or low) goal intimidate you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? If you are new to running, set a low goal. (You can also log your miles in km's if you choose.) Also, if you rather log your progress by time rather than distance, you are free to do that as well.
You can set your goal now but wait until Wednesday, November 1 to start logging your runs.
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange
There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did. (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread) Keep a running tally of what you did this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chat it up even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things to include running. Very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time). Talk about a recent race or one coming up. Ask questions, provide answers, or just learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs, follow what many other people are doing. Even look at last month's thread that I posted above.
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumulative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.
1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.
By the way, everyone here is a runner (unless you find a dead body- then you're a mere jogger).
Stan

Starting this thread two days early means we're going to be on page 18 by the time November ticks, lol.
I'm still ramping my mileage back up, but with no races in the near future, I'll put myself down for 175 miles.

Yes. But maybe we'll have all the chatter and "welcome newbies" outta the way.3 -
Between Thanksgiving, a trip to Kansas to see my daughter, and a trip to South Dakota for hunting, miles will be hard to come by. I am "officially" starting my ultra training in November though so I'll try to get substantial miles in the last half of the month.
I'm in for 100 miles.
Thanks, @Stoshew71 !!

I'm in for at least 100, maybe a stretch goal of 125. A lot of that will be on the treadmill, I have a feeling.2
-
I'm in for 120 this month. New training plan.3
-
I am in..have not been running as much lately, but will set a reasonable goal of 30 miles4
-
I missed the last two weeks because my sinuses are going nuts. Gonna go for 20 again this month... maybe I can actually make it!2
-
I'm in for 100 miles this month.
Thanks Stan @Stoshew71
Upcoming races:
11/28 - Galaxy of Lights 5K
2018:
4/7/18 - Oak Barrel HM
2 -
Every year I have set my annual mileage goal at 1000 miles. I have never reached it-last year I made about 850....BUT, this year it is actually possible. So I am setting 2 goals:
100 miles in November....and
November-December streak: at least 1 mile/day until 12/31/17 with the aim of actually hitting my yearly goal....for once!20 -
I'm in for 50 miles.
This will be my first running challenge! I'm on week 7 of the Couch to 10K program, so I should be hitting the "5K" mark at the end of next week then bumping up my duration after that.
Following that plan, I should be able to get my miles in!10 -
@7lenny7 Looks like we have 2 corresponding races in 184
-
I'll take a punt at 80 miles. This will include a half-marathon on the 18th, and a 5k turkey trot on the 23rd.
The goal for the half is to finish with a smile on my face. The stretch goal is to break 2:15 and get a PB (previous PB is 2:26).
The goal for the 5k is to beat my husband. His goal is to beat me. He tells me his strategy is to use me as a pace-maker and then blast past me at the finish line. As I will still be recovering from my first half-marathon in five years, I think he has a chance.
8 -
I am going to try to keep ramping to 90 miles in November, and also want to plan my spring racing (and figure out if I can crew/pace for a 50 miler my friend is doing). Oh, and do my physical therapy at least 5 days a week!4
-
In for 500k.9

Still working on a November goal...2
-
Even though I missed my October goal, I'm in for 70km in November as long as I stick to my training plan and my math is right.4

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA2 -
I'm in for 40kms in November. I'm just getting back into running after an injury and looking forward to being in my first ever running challenge!3

@BruinsGal_91 - My coach has addressed this situation. What do you do when you're competing against someone fast who also has a strong finish? You have to push hard early, hoping to bury him so badly that his strong finish doesn't matter at the end. This is my typical race strategy; historically I have not had a good finish line kick, so I just have to run moderately fast long enough that the guys with a good kick are too far behind to catch up.8 -
November goal 152 miles. I’ll be tapering to run a half marathon distance the Saturday after thanksgiving. I’ve already booked a babysitter to watch my kids while I do it
Last month my goal was 173 miles and I went over by 6.88 miles so a total of 178.88 miles! Definitely a monthly mileage PR for me.
