11/8 - Overslept and didn't have time to run :-(

11/18 - 3.4 miles on treadmill. Then upper body weights / abs.
11/19 - 5 windy miles.
11/20 - Woke up with some crazy pain in my right hip / glute. Not sure if I pulled something or what. Took some anti-inflammatory medicine. Hope I just need to rest / stretch.
11/21 - 5 miles @ 45° F! Way warm for November. Apparently hip issue was weird DOMS from yardwork. It was good this morning.
11/22 - 3.4 miles on treadmill. Then upper body weights / abs.

11/26 - 5 miles.
11/27 - 5 miles.
11/28 - 5.5 miles. It was 51° F! Global warming is bad for the planet, maybe good for running. I wore shorts and a t-shirt...on November 28!
11/29 - 4 miles on treadmill. Then upper body weights / abs.
11/30 - Ugh! No run...missed goal.
94.2/100 for the month.1 -

I've got to set up a December goal and race for it! I work best when I have boxes to check off. Hmm.
On another note, I'm going Saturday for my first ever trail Run! And my friend told me about a 10k trail race coming up next year. Hmmm.
@WandaVaughn I can't wait to hear how your trail run went! Take it slow and keep an eye on the ground. I think the hardest thing about trail running is keeping an eye on the trail with all that beauty that surrounds you.
@skippygirlsmom congrats on the job!! So glad to hear it!
@ddmom0811 great job with the PR!!

Finished the month with 94.3 miles. Well shy of my original goal, but I switched gears mid-month so that was part of the plan. Actually feeling really good about the current schedule I have going with mixing up the P90X videos, yoga, strength sessions with a trainer and only 3 days of running. Going to try and carry that out through December.

So I think I have my first real running injury in a long time. I've been having some issues with my right foot for a couple weeks. More specifically my big toe back where it connects to the heel. I thought I just sprained or bruised the muscle/tendon because I do a lot of trail running out here and we have a lot of rocks that just love to jump up and catch you in the arch. Unfortunately I looked at my feet this morning with my weight off of them and noticed the right doesn't match the left anymore, I've got a hard protrusion off to the inside. I asked my wife if it looked odd to her and she said "what this?" as she pressed on it and I about peed myself so there is an issue.
Now my wife is making me go to the doctor to get it checked out.
My biggest fear is that there is an issue that will take time to heal and I have a 50k race at the end of January, depending on the heal time this may kill the race. While I will wait to hear what the doctor says I do have a few questions for the group.
I've been running on this injury, if it isn't catastrophic should I just keep going and heal as I run? That way I can keep the training going and still make the race. My mental game is stupid strong so running while injured is pretty easy (this can also backfire as many here know).
If it is catastrophic how do I keep myself for getting super bummed out as I watch all my training go down the drain?
Is there any way to salvage a last second training plan if I can heal up in time?
@Azercord - Sounds like maybe an injury that warrants some time off the trails. Ask the doctor about ways to keep your conditioning up that don't involve running. When I got injured at the peak of my marathon training, I had to wear one of those walking casts for a few weeks. I wasn't able to run during that time, but the doctor and I agreed that it was safe enough for me to do stationary biking to keep up my conditioning. That kept my legs working, kept my respiratory system tuned up, and let me ankle/fibula have a chance to recover without a ton of impact. Maybe you can work together to come up with an alternate plan that will still keep you on track.1 -
Ran another 5K distance yesterday, to finish out November with 14 5Ks, or 43.4 miles. On to December and setting myself an actual goal.3

- Wore the Race Shirt or
- White or Black hooded sweatshirt - that said "Runners Edge" or some similar wording ( 2 for 1 on that )
- Eating a pre-race Bagel
- But the best - Every runner - or at least a big pack came into an aid station and they all stopped for a drink
Hey you need to stop for a good selfie photo. Suddenly had this mental image of Black-White shirts alternating like a checker/chess board pattern.
Me Bad ???
@juliet3455 I've actually gotten a couple pairs of my running shoes at Kohl's once. LOL0 -
See you in Dec challenge everyone!!1

@juliet3455 @Stoshew71 - Last April, I had a pre-race bagel. Maybe that's why I ran out of energy about mile 20? (Like, the heat and being sick had nothing to do with it.)4 -
Total: 30.7
Goal: 275 -
Finally reporting in as my week last week was crazy (and I didn't get any extra running in those last couple of days). Big race yesterday (see December report) though!
Goals this month: Do 1 shorter race, plan for spring racing (register for 2 races), 90 mi total
What I did: 2 shorter races (yay), haven't quite gotten my act together to register yet, but I have a couple of races on my radar for spring (OP 50K in March--just not sure if I can be ready by then--need to plot it out), also need to find a warm up race (trail marathon or half marathon in Feb), plus I did sign up for a XC 5K series to run with my son in Dec and Jan. 78.8 mi total miles. Not too bad. Will make an effort to get there in December.

So I never checked in earlier in the month to set a November goal, but I'm going to update everyone anyway.
For some background, October was the first time I had ever set a monthly mileage goal -- and I want to thank the MFP community for all the motivation! I ran 60 miles in October, which is basically unheard of for someone like me. I used to be out of breath after running only a 1/3 of a mile.
This month, I focused less on the amount of mileage I clocked every day and more on speed and pacing.
I shaved a minute off my 5K time and ran 33 miles this month. I also ran a 9:33 mile, also a big deal for me because I was running 14-minute miles and 12-12:30-minute miles in Sept/October. A lot of time this month was spent on the track and random fartlet training on the trails.
I would say the most fun I had on a run this month was last weekend when I was visiting my husband's family in the small town he grew up. The town has 200 people and is tiny!
That said, I put on my running shoes one morning with the goal of running every stretch of road that exists in that town, rather than set a specific mileage. I had never really taken the time to tour the entire town anyway, haha.
Turns out, it was only 4.3 miles, but it was still a nice feat and I certainly felt a sense of accomplishment because I didn't take any breaks.
In returning to running on Sept. 5 for the first time in years, my biggest challenge has been pushing myself past that first mile without questioning whether I can continue on. I usually take a 30-second break after my first mile.
I think I found a solution. I mapped out (on MapMyRun) a 2.4-mile loop near my house and am making a point to run it at least every other day -- and the only rule is I can't stop until I make it home. I think it's helped me break through this mental barrier I've been struggling with from day one.
Happy running!
Lauren
