I survived 14miles! I PR’d but it doesn’t really count because I rested at red lights. Still, I take it
Oh and it ended up being warmer than I expected. Parts of my run felt too warm for how I dressed.8 -

Careful not to do too much - remember rest is key to progression. It's when your body adapts to the strains you're putting it through.3 -
My goal is 50 miles in November. Then 100 in December. I have a 5k on Thanksgiving, a Spartan on Dec 5tg, and then my first halfmarathon on January 28th!7

Wanted to have another run under my belt at this point in the week, but almost half way to my goal.

@7lenny7 love your transformation too! Do you find your hunting ventures more successful/easier now? Asking for a husband haha
@girlinahat and @katharmonic I think a lot of people (especially that I know irl) are under that impression. I once had one of the women in my trail group say upon meeting me, "Oh you don't look like you used to be fat." Goddamn forgot to affix my scarlet F again . I lost the weight in 7 months and started from zero base on the back of six years of morbid obesity and three kids in three years- I very firmly believe that if I can be here anyone can . Love the pictures @girlinahat!
@MNLittleFinn What is that thing about birds of a feather flocking together . You know you are one bad *kitten* member of my (decidedly frozen faced) trail running tribe- inspiration is a two wat street!
@Elise4270 funny story but in a ketogenic dieters group I participate in outside of MFP I actually encountered a woman who was so convinced my before was my mother and I was messing with them. It got so wild I actually ended up having to provide a photo of my mother to prove I was infact just really rough looking when I was over 200lbs . My alter ego would also be a Shalane Flanagan, the woman's body is ridiculous in the best way
@fitoverfortymom I 200% agree and actually wrote on the subject after Whistler. When the publisher goes live later this month I'll let you guys know
I think my Achilles is acclimating to the 4mm drop finally, only minor pain on the 28k this morning.
Made the small people German chocolate cake pancakes when I got in and am chilling in the Harvard sweater Nelly sent me from her business trip to Boston (in a children's medium- what is up with your vanity sizing America??? lol).
Life is good today

@JessicaMcB me? Inspirational, I'm a foul-mouthed (not at work) special needs teacher who runs because it's better than eventually going to rehab like several coworkers have..... on US sizing... Don't get me started. I can wear a kids large, and finding pants for a short runner is a nightmare.1

@JessicaMcB I can definitely see why they were hard to convince. You definitely look much younger and your frame size doesn't look the same! @Orphia had similar results with her weight loss, she now looks like a daughter of her former self.
A very nice example of discipline and determination , you are!2 -

No running last night. I had a strange numbness in my left foot and leg from when I woke up in the morning and it sort of lingered all day. Since I had a 6:30 appointment with my trainer, I decided to make it a non-running day. She had me focus on upper body and core yesterday, but she did not take it easy on me. We started with alternating sets of 10 assisted pull-ups and alligator walks across the racquetball court and back. I am down to using the lightest weight for the assisted pull-ups and can actually bang out 10 straight which is major improvement from where I started. Maybe soon I will get brave enough to see where I am unassisted. And gosh, those alligator walks are killer! For those that don't know, these are alligator walks:

And it only got harder from there. I am pretty sore all over today. I am contemplating an after work run, but I also decided to do a half marathon on Sunday. It's called the honor run and it's in support of housing for veterans. You can write the name of a vet on your bib that you chose to run for. I am going to run for my father who passed away in 2012.3 -
@katharmonic I have bone conduction headphones called Trekz Titanium. They aren’t uncomfortable at all, and let you hear everything around you, but like PastorVincent says, it’s like hearing background noise so would probably not be good for listening to audiobooks or podcasts (I only listen to music). I only use them for running, so if you are looking for headphones that you can also use at home or in the office, I wouldn’t recommend.4

I think I am finally caught up really all the way! Whoo! Being busy at work is really hurting my MFP running challenge reading. This is rough. LOL. Work has been really busy. Awesome day so far though. Last night, I actually slept all night without being in pain and so far today, I am pain free!!! It has been a month since I have been able to say that. I really want to run. Dr says it's ok, just wants me to do a big warm-up routine beforehand. I'm still a little nervous, but I think my need to run is taking over the feeling of nervousness. I just know that if I am hurting after, I am really going to suffer tomorrow as I have to take the boys to the zoo. ACK!!
AND!!! I am going to miss my triathlon training bike ride tomorrow! Because of the zoo. Boo. LOL. I thought it was Sunday and then looked at the calendar and it overlapped. What was I thinking?? So, I am going to try a quick, short run tonight, zoo tomorrow and ride on Sunday. ooohhhh, AND, I got all my new swim stuff in today. Box is waiting at home. Next week, I will start swimming laps.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Probably will have to try and catch up on Monday.
@JessicaMcB See, you really are Wonder Woman. You lost weight, found an exercise that you love dearly and you inspire a large group of us to challenge and better ourselves. Seeing you were like the rest of us is truly inspiring! I would love to meet you in person, because I know you have an amazing spirit and heart!!!4 -
@seanevan10 I'll be in Dallas Monday. Can I come swim with you??? Haha! I have all my stuff ready.
I want to run today after being in less pain... I haven't decided what to do. I really enjoy not hurting and am sure if I go run I'll be achy sore again. But really wanna go run. I'm afraid if I wait until tomorrow to go, I'll go after 6 miles. Maybe I should start with 2 today? LOL! And do 6 tomorrow? And ride Sunday? Then run again Monday morning? Hahaha!1 -
So, I am officially on the board for my goal-less November! 2 miles, but I'm on the board. I was realizing between weather, schedule, and general laziness and excuses, I had not ran in the 2 weeks since my last PT appointment. So, I broke 2/3 rules (treadmill, and no ankle brace on) PT had given me, to get a run in. I seriously considered breaking the 3rd one (distance) but thought that may be tempting fate a bit much. So I stopped at 1mile running, 1.5 distance travelled. Then PT had me do another .5 this morning.
If this Luddite can get this to work, below is an example of how Ive been keep myself sane sans running. Totally not running, but I'm proud of it. And since I have no running awesomeness to brag about....
Trainer has also been programming some non running cardio conditioning to try and counteract the effects of loving food, with no willpower, and no running. Although... while participating in "strongman cardio" today it did cause me to wonder wtf kind of cardio requires chalk. I can still run a mile, so maybe it works.

11/1: 2.68
11/3: 2.77
11/6: 3.2
11/9: 2.79
11/10: 2.75
Total: 14.19/50 miles
I was sick last week and that put me a few days behind... here’s hoping I can make up some miles the rest of the month1 -

@Elise4270 This is how I feel!!! I am going to do my big warmup when I get home and then try just 1 mile. And then come home and do the rest of my PT workout/stretches. Then I will see how much farther I can go. Then ride on Sunday. I am doing a lunch swim on Monday if you want to head over. I work in Irving!!!1 -
So after my long run this morning I hop in the shower, towel off and notice my lips are blue - like really blue! I almost took a picture. Crazy right? It was 59 degrees with a chilly breeze. For most of my run I felt quite warm, so I’m a little weirded out by it. I feel ok.
Any one else experience this weirdness?0 -
@seanevan10 you are so sweet . If you are ever in Alberta and want to suffer for several hours drop me a line- I'll find a way to rope @juliet3455 into it"JessicaMcB wrote:November 1- 18+8

Lol I mean it's still short of what my distance spread was in September . I was hoping to be at 255 by the 10th so I'm behind in reality (I worked out that if I hit 700k in November and 700k in December my annual km count will land a hair over 5000...yes I'm shooting for it on the DL, shhhhhhh!!! lol).
What time are you hoping to run at Firenze @Dazzler20? I feel your photos are bound to blow the group away!1 -
@PastorVincent - I could never do a pull up. Worked with lat pulls, worked with the assisted pull up machine, didn't work at it consistently enough, lost weight. Once in a great while I could do one unassisted pull up - if I wasn't lying to myself about how much the jump helped.
Somehow, at age 56, I became able to do a pull up. Then 2. Then 3. Doing 3 really excited me. I figured if I did one I could be cheating on the jump, and if I did 2 I could be slacking on the drop on the second one, but if I did 3 the middle one would be honest.
I can't tell you how to develop to be able to do that first pull up. Other than taking the weight off, I don't know what I did that mattered. I can tell you how to advance after you can do 1 or 2: Put a pull up bar in your house. I bought a cheesy-marketed thing called Iron Gym. It's a total failure at most of what the marketing says it does, but it's a competent pull up bar when I hang it in a door way. When I saw I could do 3 pull ups, I was so fascinated with the concept that I'd just do 3 several times a day, whenever I walked past the the doorway with my pull up bar and thought about it.
Multiple times during the day didn't last, but doing 3 sets of pull ups every morning I'm at home did. It started with sets of 3, then 4, then 5 . . . and so on as I was able to do more. Kind of like stretching a long run to longer distances, just keep doing the same old until it's easy, then do a little more. Stayed at 10 for a long time because that was a magic number. Then one day I did 12, and the gradual advance was back on. These days, I do 3 sets of 35 pull ups every morning. There's a little bit of core work disguised in the pull ups, and of course a strong core helps with running.
The pull up is a saving grace when I have a foot or ankle injury and can't run. It reminds me that I can still do *something*. And even after having been able to do pull ups for 5 years, sometimes I'm still surprised that they're so easy when I couldn't do them at all for the first 55+ years of my life.8 -
Well here’s the thing. Tonight - I DID A PULL UP!!
Now don’t go getting all excited that now I’ve reached my life’s goal and have to consider what’s next - it wasn’t a true pull-up, as it involved a large elastic band and my foot in it to take some of the weight. I’ve used assisted pull-up machines before and also assisted dip machines, but this was so straightforward and easy - just a giant elastic band looped over the bar, put your foot in, jump and grab the bar and go from there. Actually I was mostly impressed that I could jump up and grab the bar in the first place.
I tried the next band down (gives less support) and had the strength for 2 pull-ups. So I know now, that given time (a year? Two years?) I WILL achieve one non-assisted pull-up. Who knows where that will lead....
So @PastorVincent, there is a really easy way to get there.10 -
Nice deadlift @hanlonsk Well done!!!
I’ve just started crossfit, but am keen to join their barbell club when they let me. Tonight we did front squats and overhead squats. Oh my muscles are going to hurt the next few days!!!2
