@sarahthes Shoes too small in the toe box maybe? If that's the case, then a stop gap solution may be to use moleskin to help reduce any friction, and then get shoes that give the toes more room when it's time to replace them. One thing that I am 100% certain about though is that I am not a doctor.4

Just noticed this morning... I've always had kind of ugly toes. But since I've started running they've got all kinds of weird calluses now and so now I've got REALLY ugly toes...
On the plus side, I'm getting my hair done again Tuesday. Trying to decide between red again or purple this time.
Im with you on the ugly toes. My husband wont come near my feet.. even before i was a runner (i was also a ballet dancer so i think i just like ruining my feet. Lol)
Im also with u on the red or purple hair. Lol. Been a redhead forever and went purple this last year. Just dyed it a deep violet but went a little too deep so need to lighten it up. Good luck with whatever color(s) you choose (could always do both1 -
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend. Rest day for me so ill just live vicariously through all’a’yall today2

Long run this morning was definitely in the slow and steady category. Or not that steady, really, the paced varied slow and slower. Weather held out pretty well, only a few drops of rain thank goodness. My legs are still feeling tired and sore from last week's HM. I think a massage is in order in the next few days.
Signed up for an 8k turkey trot. It's on a cross-country course I think, so I hope that's not a mistake. Ah well, the point is just to earn more food.
Good luck today @cameronheel and other racers I might have missed!3 -
Short race report.
Turkey Trot HM in Pinehurst NC
The race was the best organized event I have been in. You can tell they have been putting it on for 37 years.
Very happy with the race itself. Course was in rolling hills and I can see why golf course designers love the area, but for me not knowing the course some of the hills were a nasty surprise. My initial goal I set when I signed up for the race was to break 2 hours, but after training and running a 1:54 I really wanted to shoot for a 1:50. Perfect weather for running at around 50 and sunny at race start and I was able to maintain a pace of b/t 7 and 8 min miles for the majority of the race, and far exceed my expectations with a time of 1:43. Very happy for it being my first half. 18th overall and 3rd in the 50-59 age group.
Hope everyone else running this week has a great time. Good luck to all.11 -
@bjderhak There are plenty of footpaths here which go across golf courses (actually one I’ve done ALSO goes directly across a racecourse!). Last time we walked a golf course the golfers weren’t exactly impressed and told us to ‘be careful’. I pointed out as THEY were the ones firing small projectiles into the air, then maybe they were the ones in the best position to ‘be careful’ about where they were firing them...1

@cameronheel That's AMAZING. You blew my HM PR out of the water on your first one. Awesome running!0

I just went red for the first time at the start of October but at this point it has faded to ketchup chips LOL. I loved it--it was not a natural colour at all but it suits me almost better than my natural dark brown (and grey... lots of grey...). I expect I'll decide when I'm sitting in the chair.1 -
@garygse Thanks for the suggestion. I have been leaning towards either a wider shoe or a half size up next time but my most recent pair is pretty new (1.5 months?) so a stopgap would help!1

I am so behind, but I just finished the 10k. Thank you for the advice on bridging into the 10miles I wanted for my long run I wanted. I did an out and back on the last 2 miles of the course, came back to pee and a quick stretch and then ran the 10k. Wasn't looking for it, but improved my time by about a minute. Feel great.12

That sounds like about the best outcome you could ask for. Great running!0 -
@girlinahat Hubby golfed this morning. They told him runners can use cart paths early am before first tee time and at nt when golfers are finished but by no means ever to run on the green. Which sucks cuz the greens are such a soft forgiving surface. Lol.1

Thanks, I am really surprised I did so well.
I am always in awe of the mileage totals you put up and don’t ever think I could match that type of endurance. I have signed up for a marathon in March and that will be my max distance I will ever shoot for. Right now I feel pretty good but I can’t fathom doubling the race distance I just ran. I have a lot of work to do to get there.

I said marathon was going to be my max distance too..... You have plenty of time to get ready for a March full. You got this!0 -
Congrats @cameronheel! Fantastic performance! I'd like to do a marathon too, but that idea of running twice as long as I ever have is so very daunting. Glad you had a great race today!0

@cameronheel way to kick *kitten* and take names! Awesome race!
@sarahthes babe have you seen my feet? Hold onto your socks because that is your future
Great run today, so much ice to be run .
A rather gentlemanly buck made his presence known to me unlike the moose the other day. May or may not have yelled out to him, "Out for a rip are ya bud?". He may or may not have stared at me as if to say "Go.away.please."

It went really well thanks. I was hoping to get a time of around 2:15:00, but my training for the last couple of weeks wasn't as good as I had planned so I was a bit concerned I wouldn't manage it. My last half was six years ago and my PB was 2:26:32. And even though I'm six years older, my running has obviously improved because I finished in 2:10:46, which made that post-race beer taste even sweeter.
The course was lovely. Three miles on a bike trail, then some very pretty residential street running, and back onto the bike trail for the last three miles. Up hill from miles 2-5 which I knew was going to happen so it didn't come as a shock. The rest was downhill and the finish was flat. Plenty of Gatorade and water stations, and Gu sachets at mile 7.
The official results aren't available on-line yet, but I think I came fourth in my age-group which I'm pretty pleased about.11 -

Today's notes – Had to get moving a half hour earlier than normal this morning. Big deal run from Fleet Feet Ridgeway to Fleet Feet Armory, billed as 12 miles, celebrating the anniversary of opening Fleet Feet Ridgeway. In past years, I've skipped this one due to it being on a Sunday morning, my not coping well with the logistics of a point to point long run, and my not being up to running 24 miles on the day it was held. This year, it's on a Saturday; it offers pace leaders (including my 8:00 target); and there were shuttle buses from Armory to Ridgeway. Just had to be at Armory at 7 to catch a bus, instead of having to be at a run site at 7:30.
When I set out in my car, it was just a bit above freezing. The forecast called for temperatures in the high 30s rising to the low 40s, with showers or rain starting after we started to run. Made my best guess on how to dress, and it worked out okay for the reality of starting to run in a shower and having the precipitation clear up as we ran.
Pacing was kind of a comedy of errors. Ravi wanted an 8 pace. I met a new FF employee, a nice girl wearing a 2016 Boston Celebration jacket, and she ran with us. I slowed Ravi down a few times, but he still dropped after 3 or 4 miles. Then I didn't bother slowing the girl down unless she was running 7:30 or faster, because a) I'm okay at 7:45, and b) I figured she knew what she was doing. Nice conversation, but later I put two and two together. She said she ran a 3:30 at New York, so 8:00 is more like her marathon pace than an easy run for her. Which might explain why she opted to wait for the 8:30 group along about mile 9.
I paused the watch for a water break about mile 5, but didn't pause it between 6 and 7 miles when I stopped for a picture. Normally, I wouldn't do that; but right now I'm doing a 7 days of black and white pictures challenge on Facebook, and a shot of the intersection of the Erie Canal and the Genesee River was too appealing to pass up:
The route was short of 12 miles, but since I was running the last 3+ miles solo anyway I felt free to add a bit on the end and came out at 12.05 miles with an average pace of 7:55. I was a little surprised I came that close to target; probably a result of not pausing the watch for the photo shoot or stoplights.
Fairly soon after I got there, the regular 8:30 pacer rolled in doing a predictable 8:15 or so average. I knew he needed another 6 miles, and it wasn't a long delay, so I went out to run the last 6 with him. He said his coach wanted him to do long runs no faster than 8:30, but he was targeting a nice easy 8:15 for a flat 6 mile route that he had worked out. It was indeed flat, but he dropped a little early because his quads were bothering him. I put in 6 miles even and that segment came out right at an 8:15 pace. All in all, a successful day for pace control.
18 miles is the farthest I've run in a day since coming back from injury. Late in the run, my ankle told me it didn't like the hard concrete sidewalks; so I stuck to the asphalt roads as much as I could on the last 6 miles. I was a little concerned, but after icing the ankle down it was no worse than it has been after speed work, so that's okay. I did notice other aches after 18 miles, but not in known injury areas. I expect them to fade by morning, and won't worry unless they don't.
It's worth a few temporary muscle aches to prove to myself that I can actually do a long run again.

@cameronheel and @BruinsGal_91 Wow, you both did amazing HMs!!0
-
Got up at 4 am and did 24 km this morning (Sunday).
Garmin says it got up to 29 C by the end of it. It was feeling pretty warm. But I just took it nice and slow and easy.
It felt easy mentally, because the route I chose had a few sections which meant I got a boost each time I completed one.
Happy Sunday Runday!

51.4/70km
Should have brought my headlamp - I forget how quickly it gets dark this time of year. Did fh10.3km, which is my longest distance since my 10K race in September. Feeling pretty good overall, and kept a consistent pace other than having to stop for a zillion traffic lights. I went past a meandering trail that appears to follow a bit of a creek - had it been earlier in the day or had I had my headlamp I would have followed it. I think it connects to one of my out and back routes for a total of about 11km - which is about the distance I need in a couple weeks so if weather is good I will do it then.
Upcoming Races:
9/24 Heartbeat Run 10K 1:24:44 (11.1km)
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K
4/8/18 Jasper Half Marathon
