@rheddmobile welcome! For sure you will have a good time with us
@bjderhak Be careful with the pain at the bottom of your feet, it might be because you are running at hard surface most of the time. Pick a sodt surface now and then i.e. grass or dirt and you will feel your legs relaxed0 -
@NikolaosKey I hope you get that hamstring sorted out soon.
@MobyCarp I sure hope this is just a passing pain and nothing that lingers. You've fought through too much injury lately.
@rheddmobile Thanks for sharing your story! You'll fit right in here and it's safe to say that you are as much of a runner as anyone else on this list.
@skippygirlsmom Very sorry to hear about your job. 30 years should count for something! I have no doubt, though, that you'll find a way to come out on top in the end, be it with a new job or convincing the powers that be that you're as valuable as your pay indicates, if not more.
@Ryokat I went on a 14 mile/3 hour run Saturday with temps about 30F/0C with no water, no food. Had it been summer I definitely would have needed some water. The risk of dehydration is pretty low in the winter, at least for me. I imagine everyone is different. I've gone as far as 19 miles, in the winter, without water or food. I worked up to it though. When I started running I carried water even if it was a 3 mile run. In the winter I rarely carry water unless I'm going 16 miles or more. If it's cold enough I'd keep it in my truck and plan to circle back to it if I needed it so it wouldn't freeze on me. In the summer, it would vary with the temp, but I might bring water on an 8 mile run or more.
Congrats to all the racers this past weekend! Well done!2 -
November 1 – 5.28 miles
November 3 – 5.01 miles
November 5 – 17.13 miles (trail run from Damascus to White Top, VA – all uphill!)

November 11 – 13.21 miles
November 13 – 5.31 miles
November 15 – 6.13 miles
November 18 – 10 miles
November 20 – 5 miles
Total – 77.44 of 120 November Goal
Upcoming Races:
February 24-25 – Gasparilla Amber Challenge (15K & 5K on Saturday; Half Marathon on Sunday)
May 6 – Pittsburgh Half Marathon
@rheddmobile – Welcome! Congratulations on your weight loss and improving your fitness level. What a great success story!
@MobyCarp – Hope you woke this morning with you knee feeling much better.
@kgirlhart – Congrats on your longest run!
@Ryokat – I guess since we don’t sweat as much when it’s cold then our bodies don’t need as much water??? The leader of the training program I was part of when I first started running encouraged us to carry water on our runs and take a sip every mile. I don’t always do that when it’s so cold outside and some people are fine not drinking water on their entire runs.
It was 22F this morning for my track work. Instead of doing anything formal, I just ran hard on the straights and recovered at the ends. Half mile warm-up to the track and half mile cool down back to car got me 5 miles.

A good running weekend for me. 14 miles on the trail Saturday and 5 miles on pavement Sunday.
Saturday's run was tough. My legs felt pretty heavy and apparently not fully recovered from hunting. I thought I could run most of the hills (1700' worth according to Strava) but I struggled to find my groove and walked way too much for my liking. I ended up taking 3 hours to finish that 14 miles. You know how the first mile of a run usually sucks? My entire run felt like that. It was a beautiful day on beautiful trails, though, so I enjoyed it regardless. As I mentioned above, I ran with no water or food.
After the run I stopped by Aldi to get some ingredients for a big mess of scrambled eggs and, while standing in the checkout line in my sweaty, stinky running tights one of my long-time clients gets in line behind me. Awkward!!!
Last night I took my son to goalkeeper training and while he minded the net, I ran a paved trail. I took it easy but still ended up with a pace I was happy with. My legs were still feeling heavy but with fewer hills, I was able to run the entire route.
I'm getting frustrated with my HR monitor. For the last 3 weeks it's been cutting out, showing a much lower HR than is correct, or just dropping out entirely. I've replaced the battery and that hasn't helped at all. I have a new HR monitor on order and hopefully I'll start getting accurate numbers again. I love using the Stravistix Fitness Trend graph to evaluate my training but that depends on accurate HR data to be of any use.

LOL. We do have similar poses going on in our profile pics. I'll work on that for you.
LOL! We are showing off those medals!
I think mine is from Sept 2016 when I did my first 100 mile ride.
@katharmonic - let's both post new ones that look similar again.

Yesterday we had our Christmas party at work (it's mid-November, I know - I'm not the one who picked the date!). I didn't have a chance to run earlier that day, and when I got home around 22:30, I really didn't feel like running - too much food, too tired, ... The entire drive home I had argued with myself if I should stop my November run streak. And when I finally convinced myself that I didn't want to quit, I still didn't want to run more than the absolute minimum of 2km which I had set myself, and wasted another 10 minutes on the computer trying to plan a route that would be exactly 2.0km (because even 2.3 km seemed like way too much effort at that moment).
Once I finally got outside and started running, it was so nice - dark streets, cool air, nobody outside but me, quiet and relaxing... I don't know why I went through the trouble of planning the perfect 2.0km route, because I ended up running 5km instead
WTG! I'm amazed you kept the streak alive after a Christmas party!!!

3 mile recovery run on the treadmill. 100 of 150 miles for the month.
@NikolaosKey I wish i had grass or dirt to run on but sadly.. my treadmill runs are my "softer surface" runs. I have PF. I tape my foot/arches often and that really helps. Little ice, lots of stretching and advil.3 -
So as I'm running out of town to trail this morning I turn a corner and for the SECOND *kitten* TIME THIS WEEK I was suddenly two inches from slamming full force into a moose. She gives me this epic look that screams, "Eat *kitten* and die." before she flops down in the snow of our neighbour's lawn. I figured she was chill since she laid down but she was watching me freaky close so I moved on.
Fast forward two hours I am running back to my house and the moose is still lying there and in my infinite brilliance I call out to her, "Moosey I'm hooooome!" (my Lucille Ball loving Nan would be so proud ). Then I realize she looks super *kitten* agitated and I start scanning the area with my phone torch like "What the *kitten* is your deal moose???".
And that's when I see the calf hiding in the Bush, realize that I've given Mama Moose two opportunities to *kitten* kill me because she is hanging with her baby, and bolt out of there. My last mile time was fire lol. And all this before 6AM!
So how has your morning been ?

@seanevan10 Ohhhh! Congratulations on the first tri registration!! Is it local? When is it? Is it a sprint? I wanna do it! Haha!
@Elise4270 Thanks! It is local. Keller. It is in March. Probably should have thought about that one a little harder as it will probably be wicked cold. (Well cold in us southern's perspective @MNLittleFinn @JessicaMcB @sarahthes ) LOL. Come down and do it with me!!!! We could pick a few days to train together between now and then! Registration is $51 until the end of the month.0 -
@JessicaMcB now you know the secret for a better time in your next race.3
-
Nov. 20 - 4.3km it was supposed to be a rest day but it looked so nice outside (a little sun, snowflakes falling and -4°C) I decided to head out before the hubby got up. It also helped me make up some KM since I've had a couple unscheduled rest days.
MTD - 50.5km/80km2 -

You'll hafta get a tri suite for that cold water swim. If you wanna practice in cold water there's a spring up here that's 55f year round. Check out Sulphur, Oklahoma.1 -
My motivation is falling along with the temperatures. Sigh. My body thermostat seems to be broken. I'm cold all the time until I have a hot flash. The thought of getting out and running amongst the frost is not appealing at all. I take a daily vitamin, so I should be getting enough iron. Is this part of menopause? Is it because I've lost a lot of "insulation" this year? Would it have anything to do with my thyroid meds? I'm confused and disappointed in myself. If I don't figure it out, this will be a loooooong winter.0

It does sound like what happens to me when my thyroid is low. If my morning pill doesn't absorb quite as much, I shiver all day and want to hide in bed.
I don't like cold at the best of times - today it's in the 40s - I've been spoiled so far, the weather has been nearly perfect since I started running. I own cold weather gear and a rain jacket and haven't needed to use either yet.1 -
@skippygirlsmom - I hope your job issue sorts itself out and you find yourself in a better position.
Sending out positive vibes to those that are hurting/injured. Take care of yourselves! And the moose pictures are wild!!!

Idk if being cold is a part of menopause. I get cold the days before a period. Although it seems I've missed my first one this month, hopefully just due to age. I'm starting to get hot flashes. Not horrible so far unless I'm trying to sleep.
Might follow up with your PCP and have your thyroid rechecked?
ETA Google says cold flashes are also a thing. This just keeps getting better and better

Short of breath today but I'm sure I'll get my run done at some point.
@WandaVaughn Have you checked your blood pressure lately? Running really lowered mine and I was freezing until I adjusted. My husband's high bp also dropped recently and he was freezing constantly until he lowered his meds.0 -
@JessicaMcB My morning was def not as eventful as yours0

I am on bp meds, too. I had to half the dosage a couple of months ago (with doc's approval) because of the weight loss and running. Haven't bothered to check the numbers, thinking half a pill would be fine. I'll look at that, too, now.1 -
Out for a week and I'm 22 pages behind..man yall guys have been having fun on here. Had fun in Chile even though it was basically all business. I wasn't able to run in the desert this time due to work but work was at 12,400' so that made things challenging enough. Luckily the town we stayed in was only 7500' so I did all my running there.
Picture of the Atacama desert near the mine. Next time I get to head out that way I'm going to try to book some extra time and run on some of the 4 desert series ultra trails since they aren't too far away. Really excited about that possibility. Either that or I'm just going to have to time the visit to get me down there and then "run" the 250km ultra after the audit.13
