20.5 miles with a running group this morning. We had a cold front blow in and drop the 5am temp to 45 degrees. It was so fantastic. The best part? My husband made homemade waffles with carmelized bananas, pecans, and blueberries and had them ready for me when I got home. The worst part? Now I need to go to work without a nap and a full belly. How will I stay awake?

Ran today with my friend we are about the same pace so it was nice. She ran 4 and I did an additional 2.
I’d appreciate if you all could keep a good thought for me. After 30 years working for the same company my boss came in at 3:30 on Friday and informed me that because I make “so much” money and my time isn’t billed directly back to a project I’m going to lose my job. She thinks I have until February. Thank you very much 30 years and you all F me. Hello I make what I do because I work hard and have been here for 30 freaking years, what do you expect me to make $30,000 year. I talked to someone I do quite a bit of work for there and she has a direct project I can charge some time to, but I’m not sure how much I need before the company will back off. Meanwhile I’m already sending out my resume and the company my friend works for has wanted me in the past so hopefully they still will. The only downfall is losing 20 days of vacation to move on. Not the best news for a single mom with a kid getting ready for college to hear.
@skippygirlsmom Wow, that sucks. Sorry you have to deal with this.0 -
Running in -4C this morning made me realize how under dressed I was to run in -15C last weekend
0 -
@skippygirlsmom - Don't let this get you down! Management sometimes (almost always) forget what an asset their employees are, especially after so many years. They will eventually realize how much knowledge and experience you brought to the company, but by that time you will have moved on to something better!0

15 mile long run this morning. Started out around 65 degrees. Quickly warmed to almost 80. Felt good for the most part. Bottoms of my feet and arches hurt a bit but nothing that slowed me down. There were cops directing traffic to a LaCrosse tournament that i went by 3 times. By the 3rd time they def looked at me like i was crazy. Lol. Thought i would share a couple pics. One is right out my door. This is a meandering sidealk that I practice running tangents on
And here is my reward. Menchies! I swear there is froyo under there somewhere. Lol
Hope this works cuz i havent inserted photos before. Lol9 -
@bjderhak great running, and that froyo looks great!1
-
@skippygirlsmom sorry about the job. especially after all the time you put in. I second the thought that perhaps its a blessing in disguise and there is something better around the corner waiting for you.
@MNLittleFinn I think i am running a few hills then I see your elevation changes and think.. nope.. lol. A big hill here might climb 100 feet before leveling off or heading back downhill. I guess when the highest elevation in the entire state is about 250ft I have to work with what ive got
@amymoreorless I read to my husband what your husband had ready for you and his reply was "we cant all be winners" Maybe he will be inspired however.. lol2 -
Managed to squeeze in my 11 mi long run in the nature park before office hours today, but had to go run my exam review session without showering . Probably pushed a bit faster to fit it in than I should have given the 5K yesterday, but it was a nice day and felt good in my brand new Altra Timps. They were awesome on the uphills! Going to enjoy my rest day tomorrow!

Oh my gosh you all are just the best, I feel so much better just reading your comments and works of encouragement. I had planned to look for a new job after Skip graduated because I’m really not doing a job up to my brain level, but I liked having almost 30 days a year vacation and the freedom to leave to do things with her whenever I wanted to do that. This will just push me to do it sooner. I didn’t talk to one person I do a lot of work for and she sent me 2 charge numbers to use and she told someone else who sent me an email yesterday with a charge number from their group. Both were horrified and wanted to know who to talk to to stop this from happening. Which I’m so appreciative of.
Skip walked in this morning and wanted to run with me, which we don’t do much of during the school year since she’s always practicing with the team. We did a nice 5 miles around the hood and chatted away, she’s a good kid.
@HonuNui looks like a postcard!
@hjeppley great race for you and your son. I hate that they have nothing lower than 15 and below age group, that is rough when you are 9 years old. Great job in your AG and I’m so jealous of that medal, love it!
@_nikkiwolf_ sorry for the fall, looks like a deer feeder to me. All I can think is I don’t know any hunter that would use that, or maybe I don’t know any smart enough to make one ha ha
@cameronheel yeah for your daughter continuing to run and running with, it’s so awesome.
@amymoreorless super long run and yummy!
@bjderhak please take this in the nicest way, after seeing that picture I hate you ha ha I used to love to run by the palm trees at my mom’s house. “we can’t all be winners” ha ha!!!

@bjderhak I could go for that running weather and scenery - and that froyo (under there somewhere I'm sure, I'll take the toppings too).
@skippygirlsmom Of course your clients are horrified you aren't being appreciated. I hope that works in your favor, no matter what you decide to do.

Treadmill run at the Y today. I went in to work for little while and stopped off on the way home.
It's starting to snow, working up to a possible heavy lake effect snow tonight and tomorrow. My plan is to stay home all this Thanksgiving week, so I wanted to get some stuff done today and bring a few things so I could work from home (or not as the case may be!).

Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend! Ya'll rock!
@skippygirlsmom - Unbelievable! So sorry this happened to you.

Official Marathon PR: 4:11:28
Next Races (more as I find them):
Thanksgiving morning - Turkey Trot - Double Gobbler! (5K + 5 miles)

Was 30F and falling when I finally got out, so I grabbed my cold kit which proved to be just a little too warm, but I am sure I would have been too cold with anything less.
First snow of the season here, big fluffy flakes, but the ground is still too warm for any accumulation. Nothing much to report beyond that.2 -
Can I join y'all? I've been hesitant to do it because I didn't feel like a "real runner" but then I noticed my app says I did more than 50 miles last month (including some walking). My goal this month is 50 (which is going to include some walking).
I'm 49 years old, female, diagnosed last year with diabetes after surgery to remove a massive (benign) ovarian tumor and was also morbidly obese. In the past year I have lost 109 lbs, now at the top end of normal weight. Earlier this month finished c25k - I really did start from the couch, last year at this time I was so out of shape I literally couldn't do my own chores or shopping. My husband has been running with me. We finished our first 5k, running/walking, in September, and are signed up for our second, St Jude, on Dec. 2. The goal is to finish without walking! But we are also hoping to be under 36 minutes.
We have been running three days a week, and lifting 3 days a week, which is making both of us exhausted! But I don't want to reduce my lifting as it really helps my blood sugar levels, and it seems like three days a week is probably a minimum for improving conditioning while running.
At the moment, we're running 5k on the first day, playing around with a little faster speed and shorter distances on the second day, and a long run increasing .25 miles each time on the third day. Walking before and after, adding up to usually about five miles total.
11/1: 4.76
11/3: 5.43
11/6: 5
11/8: 6:29
11/11: 5.36
11/13: 6.03
11/15: 6.36
11/18: 6.08

11/14 -1.5 mi plus 1 hr zumba

@rheddmobile welcome! You've found a great group of runners here. You have a great plan for your running and fitness. If you ever have any questions about training, this is a great place to ask, there are a TON of great runners who will help you out. I got my start with this group and they've been amazing!1
-
@rheddmobile welcome. I only joined this past month and there are some great people here. Congrats on your achievements so far. It really is amazing and inspiring!0

@bjderhak there is no way on earth I'm showing my husband your gorgeous photo of the palm trees. We're in MA and as soon as we get to Columbus Day he starts muttering about moving to Florida or the Carolinas. By the time we get to Veterans' Day the muttering has increased to full-on whinging. And this continues pretty much all the way to Memorial Day.
He looks at my winter running gear and says, "you do realise if we lived in Florida you wouldn't need all that?"2 -

Unplanned rest day today. Yesterday I ran 18 miles. My previously injured ankle has recovered just fine, and is about where I'd expect it to be. My calf on the other side was stiff yesterday evening, and I had issues walking after sitting a while.
Today the calf is okay, but it's apparent I strained something near the left knee. Maybe a hip abductor, maybe some other piece of anatomy whose name I have yet to learn. I can walk, but could not run this morning. Have to be careful on stairs. Feels like I ran a marathon, not just 18 miles!
So, rest day and naproxen today. I'll take my scheduled rest day tomorrow. And if this isn't better by Tuesday morning, I'll be forced to admit I have a new injury. But for now, I hope to just recover with reasonable rest.0 -

Went for my longer run today. Argued with myself about taking water; I eventually decided against it.
So almost nine miles without water and I wasn’t even thirsty at the end of the run, makes me wonder if I’ll need to carry water at all this winter. I wasn’t super hydrated or anything (in fact I was 16 hours fasted).
Just wondering how far other people feel safe to run in winter before either a) carrying water or b) ensuring they run on a route that gives them access to water along the way?

Absolutely beautiful day for a run. 59°F, sunny and no wind. It was just perfect. I ran 8.5 miles which was my furthest distance to date. Some runs are just more fun than others and today was definitely one of those days.
@skippygirlsmom That really sucks. Sending good vibes your Way!
@rheddmobile Welcome to the group! There are lots of C25k graduates here. This is a very welcoming and informative group!
@amymoreorless Your breakfast sounds awesome! Lots of times when I get home from my long run on Sunday my husband is cooking out. Today I made a lasagne though since we had the cold front come in we were planning on lasagne.
To everyone who raced this weekend: Great job!

I haven't run since last Tuesday. I've had a cold, the baby has a cold, anxiety, etc. finally got to the gym today with the idea that I might try some strength training. I downloaded the stronglifts 5x5 app after hearing so many good things about it. I was very nervous about using more than just the treadmill but it is a judgment free zone, so I went for it. I'm stronger (squats and bench press) and weaker (barbell rows) than I thought, but I survived and then it was time for the treadmill.
I almost fell off. The jello that had replaced my leg muscles didn't get the memo that they were supposed to run. I cut the run short and I'll do that 10K workout run another time. So w11, d1 - gonna have to try again. Still got 1.9 miles in!8 -
11/19/17 - .85 mi walk, 3 mile run, .65 mile walk
I've been slow the past couple nights. Maybe my muscles don't like the cold? Temp fell from 50 to 41 while I was out tonight. I don't dress particularly warm.2 -
@anymoreorless I read to my husband what your husband had ready for you and his reply was "we cant all be winners" Maybe he will be inspired however.. lol
@bjderhak Haha! I hope it inspired him. I have my husband trained well after 15 years. Feed me & tell me I am pretty and all will be right in the world. LOL3 -

Didn't run this weekend. Yesterday we celebrated our grandson's 3rd birthday and today was a quiet day just to be together. Doubly precious before the crazy holiday season hits us!3
