What's up, running buddies? I've been away from the boards for close to a year now. Dealing with some injuries, and needed to focus on healing up without comparing to anyone else. Sometimes seeing all of you posting your amazing miles makes me push myself too far...
I'm just trying to be more consistent with my running right now. I'm currently attempting a 5K streak, and am up to 8 days in a row. 21.7 miles a week isn't too shabby, and sticking with the 5K distance each day has been pretty easy for me so far. Just working on speed and trying to stay injury-free and healthy. I'm also still doing my gym classes during the week (weightlifting, step aerobics, etc), so getting in plenty of exercise.
I'm going to attempt to keep up with you all on here (reading posts, that is, not miles ). Maybe next month I will set myself a goal (If I keep up my streak, let's see: 31 x 3.1 = 96.1 miles)...12 -
@ceciliaslater It's so good to "see" you! Your 5k streak sounds awesome and that's nothing to sneeze at! I'm just hoping to hit 50 miles this month Good luck keeping up with this fast moving thread!1

And that's when I see the calf hiding in the Bush, realize that I've given Mama Moose two opportunities to *kitten* kill me because she is hanging with her baby, and bolt out of there. My last mile time was fire lol. And all this before 6AM!
So how has your morning been ?

@Elise4270 Thanks! It is local. Keller. It is in March. Probably should have thought about that one a little harder as it will probably be wicked cold. (Well cold in us southern's perspective @MNLittleFinn @JessicaMcB @sarahthes ) LOL. Come down and do it with me!!!! We could pick a few days to train together between now and then! Registration is $51 until the end of the month.
You'll hafta get a tri suite for that cold water swim. If you wanna practice in cold water there's a spring up here that's 55f year round. Check out Sulphur, Oklahoma.
Yike. I am glad that it is an indoor swim...just getting from the indoor pool to the outdoor bike will be fun. LOL!0 -

The YMCA who organized the half I did at the weekend, do an indoor tri using the Y pool and gym. They were showing a video of it in the room where I was collecting my race bib. It might have been indoors, but the competitors were giving it their absolute all.2 -
I'm happy everyone is as a-moosed as I am about my double encounter
Had about 45 minutes free because baby cakes went down for her nap for once, put in 10 and still had a couple of minutes to be quizzed by my 3 year old about Shopkins (spoiler: if your answers to everything aren't "The cake shopkin" you are wrong af).
Should hit minimum goal tomorrow and will hopefully be on track to hit 700 for November against my YTD projection

Today was a short interval run. It was cold and I went too hard for the first 3 sprints. My 4th I could barely finish at the required pace.
3 more short runs this week and then I run my half marathon on Saturday. Weather is looking good!

The thought of getting out and running amongst the frost is not appealing at all. I take a daily vitamin, so I should be getting enough iron. Is this part of menopause? Is it because I've lost a lot of "insulation" this year? Would it have anything to do with my thyroid meds? I'm confused and disappointed in myself. If I don't figure it out, this will be a loooooong winter.
@WandaVaughn I am used to be a lot better with cold. This year from losing almost 50 pounds, I am cold ALL the TIME!!! It could be the thyroid, but it could be the loss of insulation and your body just not knowing what to do. I have heard that it regulates itself back out but if you are still in the losing phase, it may take a bit. I hope you get your mojo back and some warm clothes to go with it!0 -

55f is cold? you're having a laugh aren't you? That's NORMAL for here. Everyone is still swimming in the pools and lidos reporting temperatures of 8 degrees and falling.... (46F). You need to toughen up a bit!!!
Haha! The indoor pools are 82-86f!!! I turn blue in 55 degree water if I'm in it for very long! I definitely need to toughen up!
Me too!!! that is COLD! I'm such a wuss.1 -

My self-imposed limit for scuba diving was 8 degrees C (46f). But with scuba you’re not really moving a lot. 55F would be a pretty standard U.K. dive, I’d get about an hour out of that*

Decided to take a rest day today.
@Ryokat I hardly ever take water when I run, it’s gotta be like 80F and 8+ miles. Never ever in the winter. If I keep myself hydrated I don’t get thirsty on a run.
@eponine1984 5x5 is a great program, enjoy it.
@ddmom0811 that is awesome first place yeah for them!
@JessicaMcB awe how sweet – okay scary but sweet
Ouch @Karllundy I hope it’s nothing serious
@WandaVaughn I can tell you I’m cold all the time. When I run in this weather I’m good while running, I get in the hot shower and then I’m freezing all day long.
@Azercord that is a beautiful picture

You know what my thoughts on this are- get off the road man!2 -
@skippygirlsmom I am so sorry to hear about your job situation. I hope it works out for you. I been in your place a few times and it ended up working out in my favor at the end. But not a fun time to go through.2

There you go again, asking questions when you already know the answer.

Okay, I'm officially calling the season "winter" now!
Scraping the ice of my car windows this morning was almost enough to count as a full workout. And when I headed out for my run tonight, it was -0.5°C outside. Below freezing! Only just, but it still counts. Now it's cold enough that I don't have to take the gloves off half-way into the run, finally!
And I just noticed that a run streak adds up to more distance than expected. I felt like I was running only short distances, but after 20 days of running, I'm now at 149.9km for November. Considering that my goal for the month was 150km, I can do some very, very short runs in the next 10 days and still meet it5 -
Another schedule clash, so no run today. Sadly I ate like I did run so we will not talk about how far beyond my CICO score I went today...1

If it was me, I would do exactly what I said I was going to do, if possible.1 -
@JessicaMcB @girlinahat @7lenny7 you all know me too well.... Originally, Thursday was rest and Friday was 1 hour easy run, and coach doesn't care what surface my esy runs are on, so I could have gotten in like 6.5 miles on road.... Really, we just swapped days, and a "leave no runner behind" type run can't be that hard, right???
Anyway, it really depends on my wife. She wants to do the 5k, but has a probably sinus infection, when combined with her MCTD makes for a less than pleasant time running, so we shall see.0 -
11/20 - .75 mile walk, 3 mile run,.5 mile walk
So my Garmin vivoactive is being weird. Last night during my cool down walk it went to an updating screen and stayed there until I popped my watch on the charger. Tonight it did the same thing at the beginning of my run It did record my run but I couldn't see stats the whole run. It would vibrate for each mile and briefly show my lap time then go back to updating screen. I was able to stop the run at 3 miles but couldn't hit save until I got home and did the charger thing again. Therefore I couldn't record my cool down.
I'm wondering if a factory reset would help? I like recording my warm up and cool down separately bc they are long, so I'll have to use a phone app if this keeps up.
Our weather is hanging at this really annoying 50s spot where I'm freezing while I walk but still sweating a lot while I run0 -
Did my water walking for “rest” today but was really feeling crappy and super hungry but then kind of nauseous as the day went on. Don’t know if it is electrolyte imbalance, exhaustion after the fast-ish long run yesterday, or if I am getting sick. Going to foam roll out a bit and call it an early night. My Fitbit claims I got almost no deep sleep last night so maybe getting some would help.2

heh... I'm too trail/ultra to not consider a trail run 5k has same day registration, so I probably won't be making a decision until Wednesday, right before I go to bed.0 -
My husband and I fartleked all over the park today. Because we are basically children we find the word "fartlek" amusing so we shouted it every time we started running.
7 miles total, I figure about half was running faster than usual (which is still pretty darned slow), about half walking or slow jogging. No moose but we did see a total of eight deer! It was right at sunset and they were all walking together in a straight line, clearly with a destination in mind. Three does and five assorted fawns and yearlings.
I really wish we could do a ten minute mile! The best we managed today was 10:15. I guess it will come with time, but boy howdy I feel slow right now. My husband is faster than I am over short distances due to being taller, but I have more stamina, so we about match each other over longer distances.13 -
11/11 -2.25 mi
11/12 -1.5 mi plus 1 mi jog (didn't count jog) fastest mile yet (but fell apart on last .5 mi)
11/13 -1.5 mi plus 1 hr strength training and 25 min on stationary bike (5.3 mi)
11/14 -1.5 mi plus 1 hr zumba
11/15 - rest day per my trainer (I was completely stir crazy and had to take a 1.4 mi walk)
11/16 - 2 mi plus 1 hr zumba. Fastest 2 miles so far.
11/17 - too cold to run... 30 min stationary bike
11/18 - 1.15 mi on treadmill
11/19 - 1.5 mi treadmill, 20 min elliptical
11/20 - 2 mi plus 1.5 mi walk
13.4/35
I finally got to run in my new cold weather base layer... merino and synthetic shirt in purple, my favorite color! 10 bucks at my favorite surplus & salvage store. So comfy!
