    So I made this. Real angel cake this is definitely not. But a what it is is a very very good protein cake. This what I did.
    Measured out 7 egg whites from the carton and left it out on the kitchen counter for couple hours as I prepper dinner.
    After dinner, placed the egg whites in my stand mixer.
    Added 1 tsp cream of tartar.
    Added small pocket of french vanilla splenda.
    Added 1 tsp vanilla extract.
    Let her whip until stiff peaks (took about 5 minutes on high).
    Folded in a scoop of Canada Protein cookies and cream, casein powder.
    Spread into an 8x8 baking tray and into the over at 350F for 20 minutes.
    Let it cool.
    Topped with whipped cream, berries and Walden Farms pancake syrup.
    Great late night snack while watching the walking dead :)

    Hmmm so carton egg whites do work?! How many grams of carton egg whites equals 7 shelled egg whites?

    My carton says that 46g is 1 egg..so 322g for 7 eggs.

    46 grams is one whole egg. 1 large egg is around 50 grams. 1 whole egg is equal to 2 egg whites. when I measure out 7 whites, I get around 220 ish grams. 322 is too much.

    youd be right, But your not. 1 lrg egg is around 50-53g...your box is lieing to you lol no way that much of it is whites

    I know that's what the carton says, but that's not what eggs measure.

    Large whole eggs measure, on average, around 50 grams. If you crack a 50 gram egg and separate out the white, you get something like 30 grams for the white.

    Just finished half the protein angel food cake, super yummy! I only ate half and put warm blueberries on top. Gonna have the other half after I lift tommorow! Thanks for the link to the recipe :smile:

    Well, I'm eating the protein angel food cake now.

    I will say it's better with the full scoop of protein powder than the half scoop.

    Saying that, I still can't get past the feeling that I'm eating a sweet, puffy omelet.

    It's tasty, but there's just something off about it to me. I think it's just not quite the right meeting of taste and texture for my particular tastes.

    Right I am definitely going to try this volume eating thing! I like to graze pretty much constantly while I'm at work and in the evening and can end up eating junk. But I love veggies so that plus the fact I like eating A LOT means I really think this could work for me. Going to come back on here once I've done a day to check in! X

    After 4 more failed attempts, I’m throwing in the towel on the angel food cake. So now eating cream fluff, in a hat and mittens, in front of a fire under a blanket that just came out of the dryer.

    It’s not volume per se, but another idea for a little something sweet. A London Fog. Steeped earl gray tea with vanilla sweet drops (or a vanilla syrup) with a splash of unsweet vanilla almond milk. Delish.

    USDA estimates the white from 1 large egg as 33 g, so pretty similar to your measure.

    I'd use around 30 g as an easy estimate.

    Just discovered this thread. I generally eat two meals a day. Usually a big bowl of greens and some protein is part of the mix - some days twice.

    My late mother in law was famous for eating ice cream just like that... all bundled in front of a fire! She was thin all her life because she knew how to moderate food, but she always saved room for ice cream, even though it made her freeze.

    I've just been eating yogurt and berries for dessert. It's not as high volume as the protein ice cream, but it's volume enough and it's not quite as cold. I'm having it with a cup of my brewing chocolate, and it makes for a satisfying close to the day.

    @sofchak those both sound great. I’ve stirred cooked cauliflower rice into oatmeal, but never thought to use it instead. I’ll be making that this week! Keep ‘em coming.

    I just got a huge head of the stuff yesterday...I guess I'll be needing some bananas though (only have frozen berries right now)

    I think they're talking about cauliflower "oatmeal" (seen it in another thread). I love crazy combos as well, but I have a strong aversion to things I'm used to eating savory tasting sweet, so this is one I don't think I will try. Can't even fathom the idea of sweetened Greek yogurt, for example, despite of its popularity, and dried fruits in some savory dishes appear to elevate them, just not for me. It's a shame because other than that I'm willing to try anything.

    I like fruit in savory stuff, so although I would not add the other sweeteners I'd try cauliflower oatmeal (maybe as a half addition to oats).

    And this shredded, boiled and simmered cauliflower does not turn into a complete mush in the end? All I am seeing is sweet mushed cauliflower with chunks of apple mixed in.

    You could microwave it and then mix in the rest of the ingredients. When I made cauliflower rice (which I no longer do because it's a hassle) I just microwaved the grated cauliflower uncovered and it came out in individual "rice grains" not mushy at all. Not sure how it would behave with milk added in, wonder if it would absorb it and turn mushy anyway.

    Posted this already few times but... Buy lots of cauliflower when in season. Process in food processor by pulsing to get the crumbs. Portion and freeze. When you feel like cheating on rice, take out place in a nonstick pan and heat up. The liquid will evaporate and you will be left with so called rice. Spice up to your liking. I like to mix in shredded coconut to make coconut rice that I have with Thai red coconut curries.

    FYI for those 0f you who like to make the angel food cakes, they had lots of cream of tartar at my Aldi. It seemed like it was hard to find for some of you.

    Just discovered this thread! yay me! I like to eat a large quantity for my midday meal. I enjoy bringing a huge salad with lots of stuff in it to work. Today's is a can of rotel, tomatoes, onion, bell peppers, shredded carrots, shredded cabbage/broccoli slaw, topped with a can of chicken, chickpeas, and a few walnuts. I love the recipes on here and hope to get myself a food processor. I am wanting to try the cauliflower as rice and in with my oats.

    I think this is the thread I need. I posted this on the Getting Started thread (because I’m just getting started!) and was told to check out volume eating;

    “If I eat three meals of 500 calories a day, which would make me lose weight, but then eat two or three pounds of celery will that change the amount of weight I would otherwise lose? I ask because before I decided to care about my body (a month ago) I would be munching on stuff almost all the time. Even if I was not hungry, even when I was full I would munch and munch on chips, peanuts, snack cakes and whatnot. I could never eat just half a bag of tortilla chips. I made a point to finish the bag (because another cat might snatch it if it’s not in your stomach right?). So, I still want to munch all the time. I tried gum, but that doesn’t do it for me. I have been munching on celery a lot recently, and cucumbers. I avoid eating this stuff with any salad dressing or anything at least. Cabbage next maybe? I considered pickles but there is to much sodium for my high blood pressure to deal with I reckon. Yea, it’s called “Binge Eating Disorder” right?     It's like 16 cal for 2 medium stalks, but it sounds like it will add up. It's low in calories but high in water and fiber.
    Be ready to become very... um... regular
    Not a bad thing in itself, but you may want to ramp up slowly.
    My favorite low calorie/high volume vegetable is the zucchini. I like to steam it lightly and add eggs for a warm filling meal.
