Heather: I would love to get your recipe for lactose free yogurt using the Instant Pot.

Katla, I am putting myself into Arrow's shoes. If I was Arrow...well, I just wouldn't understand why I had to be in prison. What did I do? I was born to be free! I need to run and rear up and play, 24 hours a day. I need interesting things to keep my mind busy. I need best friends who understand me. I need to be challenged. I need to learn things. I need to have lots and lots of fun.
Don't ask "What can Arrow do for me? Ask yourself, "What can I do to give Arrow a happier life?"
I have plenty of suggestions to gain Arrow's respect, even though he isn't your horse. But start by making yourself FUN to be with.
Gotta dash, Wendy1 -
Katla - People use the Fairlife milk which is ultrapasturized and lactose free. You use the "cold start" method which is easy to find online or in the instructions booklet. You would need a lactose free starter yoghurt I guess. It tends to make a mild yoghurt, not very tart. You need the Duo version of IP, not the LUX.
Some people make an almond or coconut milk version, but I don't know much about that. I think it needs a thickner.
Your rail disaster is on our news.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx1 -
Rye - You are an inspiration! Isn't it thrilling to be a size 8? Never two days in a row and Rori's "safe snacks" are great ideas. And Machka "Sometimes the fear won't go away so you'll have to do it afraid" is quite powerful. Thank you for posting it!
Mary - cute photo of the twins Bet they'll like Santa a bit better next year! And how exciting for you and DH to be back at work! I like the "lunch lady" idea for him. Will you both get the summers off?
Barbie- you are such a sweetie to call your cousin every day.
Machka - I found some Lipton Lady Grey tea and really like it!
Rye - wow, sounds like Amazon is really having a hard time. We got our delivery yesterday via USPS and they brought it to the door. I read an interesting article about how Amazon hires seniors who are living in RV's (some don't have much income and/or lost their homes and retirement in the 2008 recession) to work in their gigantic warehouses in the south. I guess the work can be quite strenuous, but Amazon likes them because they are punctual, work hard, and don't need benefits - other than L & I.
Joyce and Margaret - wish I could teleport myself to hear you sing in your choirs! Joyce - sorry about your experience during the contata! My DH has had some close calls in that department; maybe it's because he had colon surgery.
Beth - glad you checked in with us. I don't blame you for being tired.... let's hope for a happy and healthy 2018 for you and your family! Drive safely in that snow if you must go out in it!
Sharon - I love reading about your activities with your grandchildren. I can still remember the stories my grandparents and great aunts used to tell. Especially the funny ones - I came from a line of "characters" so hard to tell what was real and what was made up but they were enjoyable.
Wendy - love the paintings! Did you take lessons? Are you done making queens for the time being? Good luck on the big hike! Can't wait to see pictures!
Heather - glad your DIL's surgery went well and hope she heals quickly. I hear you on changing those light bulbs. Many of our ceiling fixtures have two bulbs in them but are dim right now because one has burned out and we haven't replaced it. Just call it mood lighting.
Katla - glad you are able to spend time with Arrow again, but sorry he's such a pill! I wonder if horses sense changes in the weather and it makes them cranky. Though from what you've told us about him, he can be cranky no matter what the weather is. Stay safe!
Barbara in S Oregon - I bet you could warm a rice sock in the oven - I'd put it on a cookie sheet at maybe 120 for half an hour. If our power goes out I might put one on top the woodstove for a little bit, maybe turning it every few minutes.
Janice - glad to hear you like your new place - you have had a lot of changes in your life this year, for sure. Congrats on the weight loss... it does take time for our brains to wrap around our new bodies. Heather had a good idea about shopping with someone who has good skills in the clothes area. Also, if you have a slender friend, stand beside her in a mirror and take note of how you look now in comparison to her. Kind of fun and a pat on the back for a job well done, lol.
Carol - sorry the Outback was a disappointment. Maybe they've had to hire lots of new staff for the holidays.
We are going to have a cold snap after tomorrow so I brought my weights into the house. Highs in the mid-30's and lows in the lower 20's starting Wednesday. I'm not tough enough to endure that, lol.
Yes, what a shame about the Amtrak derailing and a car falling onto I-5 near DuPont. If it had been the northbound lane blocked, our county would be having traffic problems right now. Off duty nurses from our area have been called up to the hospitals.
So I'm grateful they are only dealing with the investigation and cleanup in the rain today and not in freezing weather!

Wendy your horse painting reminds me of illustrations in the children's book Mud Pony. Many illustrations in children's books are stunning. Mud Pony is one of them.

Maybe my afternoon naps are messing up my sleeping at night.
Most days I can't nap or I won't get to sleep at night. The only times I can nap after work are: a) if I know I'm going to be up till 2 or 3 am working on homework, and I want to grab 45 min before I start in on that, or b) if I'm really not well at all.
I also can't have coffee or caffeinated tea after about 5 pm. In fact, some days it is probably better to stop around 4 pm.

Hi all,
Machka, thanks for the saying. Think I’ll post that on my wall at work. Something to keep in mind.
Wendy, you are such an artist. I envy those that can draw or paint.
So sorry to hear about the train derailment. Seems like every year something always happens around the holidays. At least it wasn’t a terror attack. Always seems worse when it happens around the holidays.
Cast is off! My skin is so dry. First thing I said was “can I wash my hand and arm”. Seems that’s a question most ask. They have a sink right in the room where they removed the cast. Well it had been 4 weeks since I washed it. It’s sore still if I over bend it. I have a cloth brace I can use when I feel I need a little support or when I go out. I might have to use it at night for a while. I’ll try without it tonight and can always put it on if it keeps waking me up. They loved the Christmas lights that DD painted on it and have it displayed on a shelf.
Gave out the gnomes today as work gifts and they were a hit. Going to have to think about making them next year for a few craft shows.
Well bed and book are calling me. Hope everyone has or is having a good night.
Terry cast free in VT!

Loving. The pictures! PIp, were you a ballerina in an earlier life?????
Mary, your twins are so cute even if they are a little scared of Santa.
Feel fine today, slept well last night. Was wondering what was goi g on last night because about every 20 minutes or so I would have that 'urge', you know the urge I am talking about. But hardly anything came out. The only thing that was in the commode was light blood. I know I have internal and external hemmmorhoids so I figure that was the cause of the blood. But I don't know why I had the cramping about every 20 minutes. But I a, fine today. I knew if it continued I would have to call the doctor.
I do need to call the vet. Melody has two growths under her chin. Her weight is the same so it isn't affecting her eating. Michelle came over last night and she can get any animal to do anything for her. Although she didn't like Michelle checking her out, she let her get in a position so I could put some peroxide and neosporin on it.
I went out and finished Ellie's shopping today and I think I am about done. She is used to used clothing and needs clothes. She lives in skirts and tops. She hates jeans. She has never been lady like at all as to how she sits and wears shorts under her skirts. But her teacher at school requires her to wear leggings. So I went to Once Upon a Child and got a skirt, two blouses, 2 pairs of shorts and a pai of leggings and paid $7.48! Everything was 60% off. Then I went to the Dollar Tree and bought a bunch of gift bags and tissue wrap and am all set to put everything in bags. I have always wrapped my gifts but my left arm and hand still don't cooperate very well so gift bags it is.
I haven't had any problems with Amazon. Right now I have about 10 boxes and if my email says it will be there on Momday, it is Monday.
Tonigh we went to our favorite non Mexican Mexican place to eat. Hacienda is just the right amount of Mexican for is. We always get the Taco salad. We get it without the shell and I take it with light on the cheese. Several weeks ago we had a waiter we had never had before. The experience wasn't our usual Hacinenda experience. We didn't make any kind of official complaint but tonigh we were seated in his section and he told us that he realized he didn't treat us right the last time and he promised to ingot would be great. And it was.

Did 10 Minutes of Tone Your Trouble Zones DVD, held my plank for 2 min 54 sec (one more sec!), then the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Reebok Cardio DVD. Another new one so we shall see what it's like.
I was proud of myself this morning. When I went onto the Wii it said that I was no longer in the overweight category. I'm just barely there, but I consider it a good thing since there are all the holiday parties, etc. Thank you, shirataki noodles. Speaking of which, after the extremepump class I need to stop at the pharmacy. See, I'd like to send some pierogi to one of Jess' friends but I need an insulated container which needs to be at least 10 inches long. Hopefully, a pharmacy will get deliveries of medicine in something like that and they can give me one of the containers. Then we have the bowling Christmas luncheon (which reminds me that I need to get my food ready to take)
Rye - I agree with the "never two days in a row" thought. I know myself, if I go off the deep end one day and get right back on the wagon the next day, it isn't that bad. But if I go for days off the deep end, it seems like much, much more work to get back on the wagon. Just never thought of it in "never two days in a row", but that is how I approach it. Same for exercise. If I skip one day I'd better do SOMETHING the next day.
Mary - congrats on the job!!! The twins are so adorable!
Beth - boy, you sure have been busy. I'm so sorry to hear about your one son and his experience at the hospital. But glad your other son is with you.
Martha - welcome back
Barbara - wish Lenora would be back. Hope everything's OK with her.
Wrapped all the presents yesterday. I decided that everyone would get ONLY three gifts. What that meant was that the fireproof safe that Denise asked for I gave to Pete. Vince got so upset saying that he thought it should be for both of them. I gave it to Pete so that he'd have three gifts like everyone else. Vince went on and on about how "I wouldn't have done that (well, why weren't you wrapping? It could have been done the night before but you were watching TV)". I just said "you can change the name on the gift tag, just add Denise's. Besides, what's the big deal?" He feels I should add the name since the tag is in my handwriting. What's wrong with making a new tag? It's not like it's that expensive. I just haven't gotten to that. I still don't undersand what the big deal is.
Barbie - that's so nice of you to call your cousin every day. I used to call my father every day and he called his mother when she was alive. The only thing was that he used to call at the same time every day. Then one day something came up and he couldn't call until later. It really upset his mother. So when I needed to call my father every day, I tried to vary the time of day that I'd call.
Allie - don't you need to take poop bags with you when you take Alfie out? I know when I walk the dog that Jess is watching, I always have a bag at least tied around the leash.
M - I really don't like black teas.
Rye - so sorry you had such a bad experience with Amazon. Did you tell them? They always ask for feedback about the delivery. I would definitely give them a low score on the delivery. Let them know of your experience. Who knows? Maybe it's the driver.
Made the cheese "tree" to take to the bowling holiday party. I really should have made it last night. And, of course, I had to have some of the cheese. I keep saying "better than cookies". Don't know how much it'll go over, I may have a fair amount of cheese to finish up. Most of the seniors like store bought things or shrimp. Update: I just put the remainder on another dish that had cheese, don't know if they had to take any home or not. I know that I didn't
Going to have to make this short. Steve came here earlier than I thought he would get here. Didn't realize that he and Vince were having to leave so early in the morning tomorrow. I don't think I'll go to Greg's house, I'll probably go to Aldi instead and run some other errands.
After exercise stopped at the pharmacy where we get Loki's med. They will be getting a shipment of some drug but it'll be coming in a styrofoam container that I can probably use to send some of the pierogi to Penn (Jess' friend). I'll have to give them a call Thurs to see if they got it in.
Wendy - what talent your daughter has!
Took a package for Bryan to the post office. Started crying when we were talking about how I haven't seen or heard from him in over a year. Don't want to go into it because I don't want to start crying again.
Ate too much of what I think is decent food. Cheese, especially. Rumikub tomorrow and I'll make one of the cheese "trees" again.
Terry - yea for no cast!!!
Need to get to bed.

Wendy - Your girls are very lucky to be the recipients of your paintings. They make me smile.
Joyce - I usually wrap all the gifts but this year I need easy so a few more gift bags are in the mix. Greysyn's presents will be wrapped because he doesn't see the fun in gift bags. He is quite the little traditionalist.
Finding it difficult to get through my 5 hour work day. Probably the starting time. I wish I didn't live in a world of perpetual exhaustion these days. Day off tomorrow so sleeping in (well trying), going for breakfast with Jheri, hair appointment and then to watch the dance performance at Age Care.
Had to take HER to do some running around and then Harmony to dance and then took them to the Post Office.
She hinted about me taking her to an appointment tomorrow but I didn't take the bait. I think I run her around enough. I wish I was the bigger person but I'm not.
Harmony wrapped her arms around my neck and told me how much she had missed me. Funny girl, I saw her on Friday. She does give the best hugs.
My heart has been heavy since hearing the news of the Amtrak disaster. The poor families. Saying prayers for everyone.

excited to spend the day in nyc with DD. Just planning to walk around, enjoy the holiday decorations and spend time with my lovely kid, blessed! My last concert is done, feeling that pressure lifted and now turning my thoughts to enjoying family time, even though I'm working the rest of the week. Let's see how many steps I get in today!

I picked up a few things for my husband and me at lunch today ... more halva, some chocolates (Lindt), more Walkers shortbread, new toothbrushes ... I thought that was a bit ironic! ... and a few movie DVDs.
We get about 10 TV channels and no Netflicks here. Fortunately, Tuesday nights are Midsomer Murders nights, Wednesday nights are Poirot nights, and Thursday nights are Murdoch Mystery nights ... that's what's on TV ... but the rest of the time is pretty hit or miss. So we buy movie DVDs from time to time so that we've got something to watch.
And Australia hasn't quite figured out the whole Christmas movie thing either. In Canada, starting in early December or sometimes even late November, there were Christmas movies on just about every evening or maybe every other evening, or something. I remember one year watching a neverending stream of them, night after night ... Christmas movies I was familiar with, Christmas movies that were new to me ... it was great! But here, they are few and far between. So today I picked up White Christmas and all three of The Santa Clause collection with Tim Allen. It was on sale in a 3-disc set ... my husband likes that series because of Tim Allen, I think.
We had one of our rare hot afternoons today. So we walked down to the beach to wade in the water after work.

He sure is a snuggle bug and has lots of personality....

Well, I have finished the 2nd draft of my memoir. I still have a wadge to type up, but it's getting there. I will most likely do a prologue.
It's going to end up around 50,000 words, but considering it's only the first 9 years of my life, I think I've spun it out sufficiently. I still have to talk to my two sons about the content of it. Not sure that Christmas is the right moment. I'm going to publish it on Amazon, under the title A Very Nice Man, but I haven't decided on a subtitle yet. (The title is ironic)
I'm going to do something else next, probably with some old poems and stories or something, and then I will start on the next section, from 9 to 20 yrs when I got married. So still plenty to do.
This afternoon I iced DH 's Christmas cake and then we Skyped the grandkids, which was its usual chaotic session! Bea recognised us and gave us a lovely smile and a wave. She's not done that before.
Then my outfit for the SingalongaSoundofMusic arrived! I am still waiting for the over the knee white socks to come, but here is your exclusive preview!
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx
Hi Heather, so nice to see someone else from the UK, so far I got the impression it was only other countries :-)1 -
5 more pages caught up, 5 more to go... for now
Lanette, re: the recommended painkilling spray times sure have changed indeed. LOVE the pic of you in your
new Stetson and Rosie in her Christmas sweater.
Rye thanks for the fudge recipe, especially the tips!
Barbie pleasant to the food pusher, now THAT's returning good for evil I'll be glad when the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel goes back to their regular schedule, the Christmas romances have pushed out all the mysteries.
Wendy, Loved Honey in elf costume. Don't let my DH see your Daisy Duke van or he would try to steal it. Good thing you are across the far ocean.
Terry, Potato Fudge? Two of my favorite things
Becca, Katla, Kelly, NYKaren ditto on the visitor inspired cleaning.
Joyce, Okiewoman's fudge IS easy and turns out pretty creamy. I make 3 batches (in a double boiler, not microwave): plain, pecan, and a rocky road with walnuts, mini marshmallows and maraschino cherries. Have to really wring out the cherries or the rocky road bleeds
Karen in VA, I've delegated keeping up with the news to DH, if its something he knows I'd be interested in, he calls me to the TV, otherwise, he synopsizes anything really important. Saves me from grief and worry about that which I cannot influence.
Katla, never imagined I'd be thankful for good poop, but there it is... and so much easier to clean up
Rori laughing while on the treadmill doubles the calories burned
M We must have been watching the same (not) Sherlock Holmes. Turned it off here too. Yes to Poirot, Father Brown, Miss Marple. Enjoy the Midsomer Murders too. Will watch for Murdoch, Dr. Blake, and Phryne Fisher, thanks!
Margaret ditto Mysteries at the Museum
Heather "The secret is to care and to act for the good without being attached to the result" well said. I struggle with this so will somehow incorporate into my 2018 goals/word/etc
Allie Alfie is PRECIOUS!
Hugs to all,

Carol, thank you so much for passing on that information. I'm glad she got to come home before Christmas.

Did the Reebok Cardio Tone DVD today. It's pretty good, time seems to go by really quickly. I did cut it short, tho, because I didn't know until last night that Steven and Vince need to leave so early to get to Greg's (they're helping him with the Newcomer website) so that I was finished before Steve got up. We have a Newcomer board meeting tomorrow so the plan is to do a Shape Ultimate Bikini Body DVD.
Carol - thanks ever so much for letting us know that Lenora is home. I was really getting worried about her, as I'm sure lots of others were.
The guys will go to Greg's and I'm going to go to Aldi then probably the food pantry. There's this butter we had that Vince ate one time but the next time he said it tasted "funny". Pickey guy. So I'll just give it to the soup kitchen.
I was pretty proud of myself yesterday in a sense. I was feeling very sad about Bryan after the episode at the post office, but I didn't pig out on the candy bar that I have for the soup kitchen. Really, I should probably take it with me today so that I'm not tempted.
And for some reason, the Wii said to me this morning that I'd lost weight. Not much. Yet I know that I pigged out yesterday on the cheese. Guess it's just taking a while for it to catch up with my body.
The guys just left, I think I'll give the treats to the cats and then go to Aldi,

Sleepless night last night, very dragg today. But being sleepless allowed me to open all those Amazon boxes and other gifts and get them in their gift bags. Michelle's Amazon gifts are so,like her. I think every gift is regarding her dogs. She has this heavy duty towel for when her dogs get wet, a double dog leash, a heavybduty canvas bag to put supplies in. She did request a Fire tablet.
