Felicia - I am a water baby and my husband isn't. I just do the scuba thing with one of the staff and swim and snorkel A LOT. The "pool boy" at the hotel in Egypt told him, "You haven't got a wife. You've got a fish! " He likes walking, I don't. We just do our own thing. Meet up for lunch and dinner. We both like sightseeing the historical sites, thank goodness.
I put my foot down about him driving around Mexico because I hate navigating. We hired drivers/guides, which was brilliant. I don't want to work on holiday. One of our drivers became a friend and we learnt so much from him about the country.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx
My friend has got to spend a third night in hospital. They have given her a nebuliser.4 -
Sharon, that nude floating, sounds interesting! I would most likely fall asleep, snore loudly, the sound echoing in the pod scaring me to death!!! Haha!

House is mostly ready for the big family gathering here Monday. I love sitting in my living room just feeling the season.

Mushy feelings in
Oregon5 -
Hi gals, I am feeling the good after-burn today. My muscles remember yesterday's hike all too well.
Karen, funnily enough, yes the cold off-putting lady was on the hike and we did exchange a few words and she wasn't so bad after all. She was very efficient in trying to help the man with the insulin problems and offered to carry his pack, and loan him her walking stick...asked him to sit down and rest a bit (which he kept refusing to do!).
I discovered that my mysterious hiking boots that I found abandoned upstairs (where my kids, their boyfriends and visitors often just leave unwanted clothes and things) did just fine on a challenging hike and did not put any blisters or black toes on my feet. I do need to update my day pack. I was using one that actually belongs to my horse Mani-he won it as a prize at a horse show for being so clever- but it didn't sit quite right and made my shoulders and neck ache. So I will be keeping an eye out for the sales and get myself a newer model made for women. And I am going to trial using a walking pole as I could see they came in handy in places. I do like having my hands free for grabbing onto rocks but if I get a telescoping stick, I can hang it off my pack until I need it. It was a good "learning" hike for me. Plus I spent the whole time talking to the others about their favourite hikes and places they'd been. So entertaining!
So I am going to try inserting an action figure and see if I can do it:
Yes! Thanks for the tips!
Heather, I loved that snippet from your memoir. You made those people come to life and showed what was special about them and their passions. Love it!
Rye, was it you who thinks there is a sign somewhere directing cats to your house? LOL We have a standing joke that our address must be written on the wall of every backpackers in NZ. We have hosted a number of pple for various reasons, some have been standing by our mailbox in the rain needing a place to camp for the night, others have been in need, all their possessions stolen or pregnant and abandoned, cars have broken down...Our place does look like a bed and breakfast and we have a big sign by our mailbox with the name of our farm and people think we are open to the public. Of course we never turn anybody away, nor any animal in need. It's funny, because our farm was named before we bought it, and it is a native language word that means "Sanctuary". Anyway, there does seem to be a steady stream of visitors and guests often unexpected so it is never boring. LOL Wendy

Merry Christmas everyone. I did not get my food into the computer for 2 days and just lost my Plus 85 day streak of logging in. I had some internet trouble. I still hand wrote it out. I lost 1 more pound this pass week. Nice surprise with all the cookies and candy around. My dog is back to work so we got to play agility last night. Yes my buddy is back, we both need to get back to more fitness after 8 weeks off for her. We plan to do a trial next month, just 2 runs not a full day.
Wishing everyone a good week.

Hmmm, well I thought the woo was short for lol, as the face did seem to be laughing, so sincerest apologies if I offended anyone! I do wish they would put a laughter choice as sometimes the post is funny! Oh well, can't have everything I guess.
Wendy AWESOME job on your hike!
Becca, happy to hear your son is only being disciplined and not discharged. Also happy that you found out before Christmas, wouldn't have been fun to have that hanging over the festivities. But wasn't he supposed to come home also? That part sucks. You'll just have to gush over nuke son more!! lol
Heather, thinking of you, thinking of your friend. Hoping she is able to do things on her terms.
So many more to say congrats to, and send hugs to, just got caught up with the majority of posts yesterday. Tried to post photos from my tablet, but the picture option doesn't show up on it, just on my computer, which means transferring photos from tablet, so will have to wait. Too much to do between now and Christmas! Can't believe it's only a few days away!
Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and a joyous whatever you celebrate this time of year! Although I've only been involved in this group for a short time, you have all become an important part of my life and I am truly looking forward to spending 2018 with all of you!

Y’know Wendy I think you’re right! (and BTW, way to go! Congrats on your hike, wow it was eventful!). Animals, including the human kind, seem to have an instinct for where they are welcome. Even a neighbors pet rabbit, which got out chose our backyard to romp around in. It helps that we don’t have dogs, at least half of our neighbors have dogs.
But there is definitely something more than that! I am sure the hikers in your neck of the woods instinctually feel the same welcoming presence.

My DH definitely does not "get" my feelings about my ancestors and their stories. Thanks to those of you who do.

Silence! WE partied all morning! Christmas carols, a few reindeer games, played "cookie factory" and decorated (and ate) cookies, frosting, and sprinkles (the kids, not me), made snowman pizza (just a large and a small pizza covered in cheese with pepperoni buttons and face). The little ones are asleep, and the older ones are watching Polar Express and resting. 3 1/2 hours left of my work day! I've got this!
Heather- The excerpt from your memoir is just wonderful! Your descriptions of your family are so vivid that I can see them in my mind. I am so excited for you, so close to finished! (with this volume, anyway)
Rey- I think my favorite part of the season is the quiet times to just sit and soak it all in in my own living room; all decorated for the season. It feels SO good!
Carol or Janet-Can't remember who asked if I will be okay with a newborn and the toddlers...Never fear! I seem to always have a newborn/infant under age 1, in my house! Most of the time, my kids arrive in pairs. One newborn will start and within a month or two I will have another one. Right now I have a 3 year old boy, two 2 year old girls (one month apart in age), a 1 1/2 yr old girl (this is her last day), and a 6 month old girl. The newborn boy will fill the vacancy the 1 1/2 year old girl leaves. Then his 2 1/2 year old brother will join us in March when his current childcare provider retires. That will give me 6 full time and I will have to plan or limit my part time/drop in kids better, so that I don't go over my ratio. It's all good! I have been a childcare provider for 23 years. I always say, "I would raise 100 children before I would ever get married again." I certainly think being married has been the hardest thing I have ever done, IN MY LIFE! Living with a person I didn't raise and who obviously wasn't spanked enough is a test of my patience and understanding.
oops! Baby Stella is awake. gotta fly! xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

KJ - Can I say I love you?
And I can't believe how you manage all those littlies. You are a superwoman.

If you're so inclined, prayers for my 88 year old father would be appreciated. His doctors decided that surgery... today at 3:00 (EST) is his only option for another bowel obstruction. He is very weak ... not certain what all they're doing ... my Mom was so confused. Prayers for her too as she waits on the outcome of my father's surgery. A neighbor is with her ... we are waiting for the call that we need to be there.

Wendy ... Wow!
Rye ... I love sitting near my tree as well ... and photos just don't "see" the way my eye does ... at least not my photos!
Heather ... thank you for the snippet of your memoir ... I'll be looking forward to its publishing!
It's rain/sleet/snow outside ... not a very pretty day ...

I've been missing in action with a family pet crisis. Our dog fell off of a hassock in our bedroom and damaged his back. We took him to our vet who wanted him to have surgery and referred us to a specialty vet clinic. They declined to perform the surgery due to his age and condition, and sent us to another vet clinic miles away. They also declined to perform surgery. They gave us a bill for the evaluation anyway and sent us home. We went from there back to our vet and worked up a plan using a number of medicines. Our dog is doing better today, and can walk outside to do his business. We have an appointment for him to be seen again on 12/29.
On the even brighter and most fabulous side, we have a brand new grandson! He and mom are healthy and doing well. Our son is in the clouds with pleasure and happiness. Baby's name is still a secret.
