Linda good t see you post again.
I had a good time with my former colleagues at the luncheon today.
I am trying to instill a routine around my sleeping habits. I do think it is helping. I rarely have leg cramps now and find I am only waking up at most one time a night. Slept nine hours last night with one time waking up and had a dream. I am a strong believer in routine especially when trying to change a habit.
Sleep Routine:
All video off at 8 p.m.
Hot bath with Epson salts for Magnesium, All make up off and coconut or shea butter night cream with rose essential oil.
Write in note book...
Check list in bed by 9, drink tart cherry juice before 8 (to up my melatonin for sleep) did I exercise, get outside in the afternoon, listen to my bedtime CD's What did I do today? What to I plan to do tomorrow? What am I grateful for? Did I place my cares on my healing tree?
Listen to yoga relaxation CD
Read for half hour to forty five minutes light reading nothing upsetting
Read with a 15 watt bulb no LED light
Have black out curtains
Cover any light source like the CD player I use to listen to sleep CD
Right before I go to sleep I listen to a CD that puts me into a trance that leads to sleep. Usually I asleep before it it over no later than 10.
Am I able to stick to this routine every single night. No but I try the best I can. Will my routine work for everyone? No! This is what works for me.
I just know if I want to stay healthy sleep is one of the first places for me to start.

Wendy, thank you for what you shared about Jack LaLanne. The "take-away" for me is that he put his health and fitness at the top of the list and then matched his actions to it. The point about motivation is also important. If we all waited for motivation, we'd never get anything accomplished.
Margaret, it was interesting to read your sleep routine right after reading about Jack LaLanne's routines. I have my own sleep routines that are different from yours but have enabled me to get satisfactory sleep almost every night. I have read a lot about having a set time to go to bed. Mine is earlier than yours but it is consistent and works for what time I have to get up.
Linda, It's good to hear from you again. I hope you make this thread a regular stopping place.
It's warmer and the snow is melting so it was easier to walk the dogs this morning. They walked a lot and when they were ready to go home, I walked awhile without them. There are still icy places on the roads and parking lots, so being careful is a must.

Did Paul Katemi's ASAP Workout DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Gilad's Body Sculpting DVD
We had our Wigilia last night. Denise is getting quite a bit of food to take home, there's things that I've determined will go other places or else she's getting. Between her and the soup kitchen, my refrigerator is pretty emptied out.
We're planning to go out to breakfast this morning. Vince wants to go to Waffle House. I'll just get 2 egg whites fried. Pete mentioned that he would like to get his cousin interested in bowling so I thought it might be good to take them bowling. Then we'll ask them where they'd like to go for dinner (we'll eat out). Depending on the time, we'd like to take them to Charlotte Motor Speedway to see the lights, mainly because I'd like to see them. And if we don't have time, hopefully we can do it tomorrow. I'm just hoping that because they came a day early, that won't mean that they'll leave a day early. Update: I also got bacon since it was so late, figured that would hold me over for lunch.
Penny - your Christmas sounds really nice.
Joyce - I know that it feels really good to get out of ICU. Hopefully, you'll be out of the hospital real soon. So glad there isn't any more bleeding. Did the bleeding cause the tingly sensation?
Gotta think of something to have pork related for New Years. You always have pork on New Years. Then I'll probably get more lettuce so we can have a salad. I'll start giving Vince some of the leftovers.
Don't know why I'm so tired right now.
Lanette - how many times I think how I probably treated my father the same way that my kids are treating me. Sometimes I think they're treating me worse than I treated my father. But now that he's gone, I think of him practically every day and realize how very much he loved me and sacrificed for me (that is, except marrying his second wife. But when he asked me the first time what I would think if he married her, I said "I wouldn't think much of it" and he didn't marry her. Guess at my young age, I knew.). I'm convinced that especially when I'm gone, they'll know how much they were loved. I don't know about Bryan, tho. I don't think I've ever heard of hemp milk. Where do you get it? I've started really liking almond milk
I've kept up with my exercising, even if some days it was for a shorter period of time. Like today the DVD was only something like 45 minutes long. Now for the hard part -- not snacking. Well, I gave away most of the food (or I'm ready to give it away, it's in a bag for Denise out of my sight), I know one type of cookie I can give to a lady who works at the Y (they're her favorite), Vince will eat the chocolate chip cookies, I'll give most of the snickerdoodles to the place where I do the extremepump. Desserts taken care of. Now for me to keep my paws out of it. Well, I think I might be able to do it since I'll constantly remind myself that the less I eat, the more they'll have. I'm someone who likes to give food away (as you know)
I have a feeling Denise and Pete plan to leave tomorrow. They put their Christmas gifts in the car. Well, this was the plan originally, then it was going to be delayed a day because of the dog
My MIL had one of those medic alert necklaces, but she refused to use it. I think she got it just to make Vince feel good. But she "didn't want to bother anyone". She wanted to be independent, even tho she really couldn't and shouldn't have lived alone.
Pete talked about bowling so we'll take him and Denise bowling. Denise asked if there was anything else to do, so I asked her what she'd like to do. No answer. Not sure where they want to go for dinner. I would go for Golden Corral since I don't have to eat a whole lot since I'm not really all that hungry.

Why pork on New Year's Eve? I've never heard of that tradition .... and unless it it spicy pulled pork in a burrito -- ick.
I always heard that this is a German oriented custom. Pork because pigs "root forward" when they eat, showing a desire to move on to the new in the New Year. Usually served with sauerkraut. This was something that my family did as my dad was quite German. My mom and her Swedish background didn't seem to bring any New Year's customs to the family, we had different holidays that we "did Swedish."
Around here it's black-eyed peas and rice. I don't serve it because nobody in my family likes black-eyed peas.

Lazy day today as I feel kind of puny. Did laundry and read a book.
Katla- my DDIL did the crown roast in a big covered pan. She did a rub on it the nigh before and cooked it as directed by a web site. she had never done one before nor had I. It was delicious.
Good to hear from Penny and Linda.
I have been working on my mind map for 2018 and am almost finished. 2018 word -Committed. Three areas: Mind- Body- Spirit. It s exciting to see it in a graphic form.

I an out of ICU and have a comfortable bed! My family doc is on. Vacation but his partner says he will discharge me tomorrow. We talked about me staying calm. He is going to order an extra blood pressure pill to take dif ,y blood pressure goes above a certain level. The one thing that is still driving me crazy is the tingling of my fingers. The nurses here says that will take months to go away. That portion in my brain that has the brain bleed sure did mess up my life. The thalamus controls the sensory part of your body and that's why I have all this tingling. I should be glad it didn't bleed in an area that affects my speech or walking. So I guess my word for the new year should be calm. The medicine me he is ordering does have problems with interactions with my Elavil. I'm not good in meditating, but I am good in prayer. So hopefully prayer will help me remain calm this weekend with 8 children under 6 years old. I will also have to be serious with my diet. I need to lose weight, excersise, watch diet and life style. Ok, I have a plan, now just to so it. I'm glad I have you Gil's to help me with all of this.

Pillow talk: Thanks to everyone for the views on pillows! I checked the "My Pillow" website which theoretically has "buy one get one free" but when I put it in the shopping cart and went to check out, there was a different price, much higher than if I'd get 2 of them at Walmart.
Beth, thank you for the information about the infomercial. DH said he'd look for it, I know we've seen it on a couple times this week.
I will probably pick one up next time I'm at Walmart, just to see. Karen in VA - my current pillow is actually a $5 Walmart travel pillow which did a good job for a couple months and as it started to flatten, I put folded towels under it. Geeze.
Allie - when you said they'd found that mass in your dad's colon, I immediately thought how wonderful you were able to take him to Virginia this summer. I can still see that photo of him and John Warner! And you! You know, you are just a terrific person - very caring and thoughtful to the elderly, that's a gigantic plus in my eyes. ((((BIG HUGS!!!!))))
Rye - I'm not quite sure about what triggered that situation with your new friend. Were you with our group when we discussed the Myer's Briggs Temperament Sorter earlier this year? If you're not familiar with it you can google it and find free tests online. It is interesting to see what makes us "tick". And what makes others tick. I know I've felt like you are feeling before, and just glad to be home where DH and the dogs appreciate me, lol. A place where I feel safe in being introverted, silly me!
I'm to the point if friendships are a lot of work, I let them go.
Your illness and meno/hot flash stuff might be affecting your outlook right now too. Hope you are feeling better.
Wendy - glad the bank reimbursed you for the stolen funds and you have a cellphone that is working. I agree, getting mad and getting even isn't worth your time. And, what goes around comes around - fate will teach the thief a lesson. And thank you for posting that Jack LaLanne information! There's a lot of truth to what he said, and perfect for this time of the year when we are looking at goals and making plans for a healthy 2018. Good timing!!! I can still see him doing jumping jacks on TV when I was younger in his white jumpsuit.
Katla - I am so tickled for you - new healthy grandson and dog getting better! Woo hoo! (not woo-woo, lol).
Michele - I found Hemp Milk at the health food store next to the almond milk. Walmart didn't have it. It actually tastes good - I get the original unflavored and put it in my coffee like a latte. Most nut milks seem thin and watery to me. Pacific brand Hemp milk has 50% of a day's calcium in one cup. Just curious, who's taking care of Denise and Pete's dog?
Joyce - hugs! There's no place like home and glad you'll be there tomorrow. I was reading something yesterday about the how meditation and prayer are both good stress relievers. The person who wrote the article said to try repeating a simple phrase in prayer like "Jesus Loves Me" or "God is Good" or even "Thank You" - I am making these up but you get the drift, and it puts a person into a relaxed, comfortable state of mind. I don't think I'm much of a meditator either but I can focus on repeating simple phrases for a few minutes.
Barbie - glad you are able to keep walking in this rain. We have to put a raincoat on the puppy who normally takes her time doing her business - tho when it's raining heavily she gets to it quicker. I bought some waterproof New Balance hiking shoes per your recommendation and say "Thank you" every time I go tramping through the puddles!
Tonight, I made a "massaged" kale salad for supper and it was yummy. Cut the kale into ribbons, put into a bowl, massage/rub a teaspoon of olive oil onto the ribbons for a couple minutes. Makes them brighter green and helps cut any bitterness. Added a little diced cucumber and half a diced avocado, then dressed it with vegan/GF ranch dressing from a recipe a girlfriend gave me who is a fabulous vegan cook. I have known 3 vegans who are very health conscious and they really make delicious food.
So it will be a grand experiment, and hopefully a habit, to concentrate on making beautiful, healthy food even tho I'm the only one in the house that eats it. DH did take a bite of my salad and lived, lol.
I do eat salads but they are generally packaged coleslaw mix with Litehouse Caesar Caesar dressing. By golly I'm gonna branch out!
Have a good evening!

Went bowling then out to dinner at Pizza Hut. All they have are pizzas and a few salads. So I had the garden salad (no dressing, cheese or croutons), which is mostly iceburg lettuce. I'm just not crazy at all about Pizza Hut, but Denise likes it.
M - the reason you have pork on New Years is because a pig sticks his snout out as he's walking. You want to go forward into the new year. Never fowl? Why, you ask? When a chicken scratches, it scratches in a backward motion. You don't want to go back in the new year. You usually have something green for money.
Wendy - that Jack LaLanne info was very interesting. Lots of things I didn't know about him
Lanette - Denise and Pete, to my knowledge, are boarding the dog. I have a feeling they won't be able to get it tomorrow. I assume the kennel is open at least on a Saturday. Don't ask me why, but they rented a car to come down here. Really, it's good to sometimes give your car some exercise and not just drive it around town. But not my call. I like this miso soup that's low sodium but I can only get it at the health food store (the only one around -- unless I want to go to Charlotte) so I'll look for the hemp milk then. You're lucky you got your hubby to try your salad. Vince wouldn't do that much.

My youngest grandson (10) wrote the letter below. I'm sure he'd be mortified if he knew I shared it with you ladies. Shhhh don't tell...but it's the cutest Dear Santa letter.

Thanks, I know what you mean. Is that not sweet? His older brother, my oldest grandchild (24), is getting married in 2018.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
Heather, the Christmas quiz sounds like such fun. Please list some of the other questions for us. I may want to use your idea in the future.
Penny, good to hear from you. Thanks for sharing your Christmas traditions. It sounds like such a nice family time together.
Joyce, so glad you are getting rest and happy about the positive results of the brain. I’m sending more healing thoughts and prayers. (((Hugs))) (later) Glad you are going to get to go home. That is a bummer that the tingling can last so long. Yes, patience, my dear friend.
Lanette, good luck on your new diet for 2018. I’m just not a “smoothie” fan so don’t think that would work for me. If we eat any more chicken I think I will start clucking or doing the chicken dance. LOL
Lanette, I wish I knew what kind of pillow I have. I had gone through 3 or 4 sets trying to find a comfy one when I bought these at Costco. I think they were only $20 maybe for the pair even. Anyway they are exactly what I was looking for. They are soft but have support and can be molded any way I want.
Katla, when do we get pictures of your new grandson??? So glad to hear that the dog is getting better.
Linda, welcome back. Good for you on not gaining too much in your absence. Stick with us when you can.
Allie, is your dad seriously talking about no treatment? I know this is a difficult time for both of you. Just remember that we are all with you in spirit. ((((Hugs))))
Margaret, glad you had a good time at your lunch with friends.
Janetr, Brayden’s letter is sooo cute. How nice that he cares so much about the pets. And his penmanship is terrific. Many of the kids that I see around here have such poor printing that it’s hard to read. Oh, and I won’t tell that you shared.
The plan tomorrow is to take the decorations off the tree and get everything to the attic. I asked DD to help and it should go much faster. I got three plastic Totes in the attic today just to make room.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you
