@amymoreorless That's fantastic that you've been cleared to run again!
@MobyCarp Happy Birthday!
Today I pushed out the run to closer to four miles, which is about as much as I dare to do right now. The shin still feels good, with plenty of time in between runs for it to rest and heal up some more. I think I should be able to do this twice a week easily, with plenty of power-walks on my non-running days. So, that's the last run of the year for me (next one is on New Year's Day), and according to Strava, that puts me at 2406 miles for the year. Bring on 2018!
22 - 2.48
25 - 2.23
28 - 3.76
Total: 8.47 / 0 miles9 -
I think I need to go 'enjoy the climb out of the river valley' during my long runs over the next 3 months...
If you can run/power walk it you are good to go for Jasper. Right now in the dark days of winter I would probably have to powerwalk the top 1/2 of it.1 -

I made my December Goal! It was not much, but I know it is more than I would have done had I not announced it to you all. I am going to set my January goal for 62 miles. Thank you all again and Happy New Year!

Some good reading here...

I wish I could say just my pride was hurt but my patella also really hurts! We went back to where we started the interval and ran it again, and the second time past I saw the loose board which tripped me in the first place. Darn it! I need to get better at picking my feet up over uneven surfaces. It was a beautiful face plant though, I could win the Olympic face planting competition. Since we were sprinting and the boardwalk is a nice smooth surface (except for that one board) I must have slid on my stomach about twenty feet before coming to a stop!

8.3 combination of elliptical and treadmil. Had to try out my new forerunner 35 on an inside run. Seemed stringy on miles on elliptical and generous on treadmil but not crediting me with as many calories burned. Ok, I had an inkling that I was overestimating calories burned so its time to adjust. 160 definately in sight.

Improved my 5km time by almost 3 minutes. 6.5 miles with a steady 13 minute pace. I started running to get back into shape and I've ran more this month than I probably have since I stopped playing basketball. I'm so ready and pumped for 2018.

Passed my December goal of 110 miles. Yay! I've been down about my speed (or lack thereof lately). I averaged 10.32 pace on the Christmas day 5-miler that I did. That's pretty good for me; however, I was almost the last person to finish. I know we're not supposed to compare ourselves to others but it's hard not to when everyone else is so far ahead, finished and ready to go when I arrive completely out of breath. I'm hoping that if I can drop at least 20 pounds that will help. Christmas leftovers are gone and this is Day 3 of logging my food and staying around 1200 calories. They say the first three days are the hardest!10 -
@Teresa502 - Goal! WTG! That's a great pace for the 5 miler! I bet because it was Christmas day it was mostly hardcore runners that were there. If it was a normal Sat/Sun 5 mile run and there were a ton of people there, you wouldn't be at the very end. But even if you were, who cares. As they say ... you still beat everyone else on the couch!
@penko47 - Goal! Awesome!

All right. January is now up.....

Today's notes: Assignment was 5x800m intervals at 3:20 per interval. The roads were just a little slick,not icy, but compacted snow isn't exactly as nice as running on bare pavement. Anyway, enough with the excuse making. Splits on the intervals were:
3:18
3:19
3:22
3:21
3:22
As you can see, I was slow my last 3 intervals. I'm pretty sure that with dry roads I could have gotten them in under time but that's just vanity and excuse making on my part.
Temp this morning was -20F (-28C)
Have a runderful day all!

@rheddmobile I hope you are ok. But this sounds like something I would totally do!

I am not going to make Dec goal. Not worried really since I added in swimming, bike rides and spent the first week in Dec sick. I only did this for 1/2 the year and I'm so excited that I have stuck with it. I really think it has to do with all of you!!!
Thanks everyone for making the end of 2017 awesome!!! Looking forward to 2018!7 -

Felt wonderful to get out and run last night without the worries of trying to keep on a tight schedule. Temps were in the teens, but it didn't matter, it felt fabulous to me. I did my P90X3 yoga this morning. Today should be an easy non-running day, but we are forecasted to get about 3 inches of "fluffy" snow this evening. Running in the evening with fluffy snow falling is pretty hard to resist, so I might have to go out for a short run anyway. That, along with my group run tomorrow (2F forecast, gonna be hard to make myself get up for this one) should put me close to 100 miles for the month, well past my goal of 60. Looking forward to moving on to January where I will increase my mileage and start my formal marathon training plan.
@power0304-Nice running! The are some folks putting in some serious miles this month!
@amymoreorless- Great news that you are good to go!
@garygse- Glad to hear that the shin is feeling better and awesome mileage for the year!
@rheddmobile- Ouch...that doesn't sound like fun. Hope you are okay.
@Teresa502- That must be some crew of runners for you to finish last with that pace!
@abutcher2122- Geat job on improving the 5K time! Impressive progress!9 -

Just a quick catch up with everyone and I will post miles later...
@RespectTheKitty - Love the math and that it came out to Pi!
@Elise4270 - you can be proud of your miles for the year especially what with surgery and all that you have been through. It is still way more than most people do at all, ever....
@amymoreorless - Yay on being cleared to run again! Love that you actually wore running clothes to the appointment!
@Stoshew71 - love the meme!
@rheddmobile - ouch! Hope your bruises heal quickly along with your pride! Having done it myself the dog's reaction while sweet is almost more embarrassing! I think that 20 ft you slid should count toward your overall distance covered
@penko47 - Great job hitting that goal!
@abutcher2122 - Nice pace improvement! No one cautioned you when you started that running is addictive?
@Teresa502 - 10:32 is a great pace and it will likely keep improving over time as you keep running... and you got out there and ran a race on Christmas morning - how many people do that? Awesome job!
@CiaraRebello - awesome running for 30 mins straight! You will be awesome in that 5K in May!!
