Lenora: It is great to have you with us again!
LinCharpentier: It is wonderful to see you post here. I've missed you!
Allie: Sending good thoughts for your dad. (((HUGS)))
Michelle: I'm glad that your kids came to visit.
Wendy: My mom used to exercise with Jack LaLanne in the mid 1950s. He lived a very long life. I last saw him on TV advertising a product I'll call a juicer because I don't actually remember the product name. He was in his late 90's by then.
Pat in OH: Thanks for your good wishes about the new grandson. He is a miracle baby and we're so happy to have him .
Joyce: Thank you for posting. I have worried about you & it is so good to see that you're doing better.
JanetOKC: Brayden's letter to Santa is the dearest Santa letter I've ever read. Thank you for sharing!
Carol in GA: Your New Year's Eve and Day traditions are new to me, except for trees. We take our trees out on New Year's Day. Since our trees are living plants, they'll need to stay in the garage for a while to get used to cooler temps before we take them out into their spots in the yard.
Machka: The new shoes look great! I love the colors!
Rita: Thanks for checking in with us. You seem to be having a wonderful adventure. Three cheers!
I had my first night in our bed since the dog's health crisis began. I've been on the couch in the living room with him beside me all of this time. I'm still feeling fatigued but also optimistic for his future. He's a good old boy & I'd like to keep him around for as long as possible.

Janetr - that letter is too cute. I had to laugh - he mentions that Choppo hasn't been naughty, he's just a normal puppy! What a nice thing to explain to Santa, lol. I think he'll do well running a doggy day care.
Letters like that are such precious keepsakes. Lucky grandmother!
Lanette
Yes they are a pet loving family. I just loved the letter. His mom has put the date on it and put it in his memories box. Indeed I am a lucky mom, grandma, stepmother, and............well you get the picture

Forgot to post:
Rita in RV traveling the country but in New Mexico for Winter in a little border town called Columbus.
Drive in your neck of the woods often. My husband is from Silver City and we go see his dad every month. His sister teaches in Deming. Don’t make it down to Columbus but I’ve been there. Does that count? Lol

Janetr - I also thought the letter was really lovely. I read it to DH.
Just want to share my success with Amazon. I ordered a selection of 12 Alcohol Free Beers from them, based on the fact that it contained three Pale Ales which I like the best. When it arrived there were no PAs, but 3 Stout instead. I wrote a stinking review and then emailed Amazon. I got an email back immediately, giving me a 30% discount on the package. Score!
I also ordered a new veggie peeler for my son, to be sent to him in Hove, as the one he gave me to peel with on Christmas Day was horribly blunt and useless. I was very rude about it!

Question: What do you folks think about all the ads for the new WW's diet? I can eat all I want of over 200 foods? I think not!3

peach way too much marketing to get people’s $$ this time of year. Also, my gym is going to be crowded for a couple of weeks!!!! Ah new year’s

Janet-cute letter. definitely keep!
Katla, so glad you are doing all you can for your old dog. That is also my goal with all my animals, to provide them optimum diet and exercise so that they will stay healthy and enjoy long active lives. Just because they are old doesn't mean they don't deserve the best of treatment. They give so much love all their too-short lives.
Here is a quote I found about Jack Lalanne. He published a book called Live Young Forever when he was 95 and died of respitory failure/pneumonia at 96.
"Dying is easy. Living is a pain in the butt. It's like an athletic event. You've got to train for it. You've got to eat right. You've got to exercise. Your health account, your bank account, they're the same thing. The more you put in, the more you can take out. Exercise is king and nutrition is queen: together, you have a kingdom."
If you are interested in reading his wisdom of a lifetime, google Live Young Forever pdf. I found the manuscript for free online and am reading it now.

Howdy y'all! I am in Texas! I'm fixin' na go into downtown Fort Worth on either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Any of you DFW area ladies going to be available to meet? Suebdew, Re, Rey, Cathy and any one else? Marcelyn- I was supposed to have a two hour layover in Houston, but due to the winter storm in West Michigan, my flight was delayed and my two hour layover turned into a five minute sprint through the terminal to catch my connection to DFW! Yikes!
Penny- Good to hear from you!
Beth- glad to hear things are going better for your dad
Janet- Such a sweet Santa letter!
Joyce- Glad your health is being upgraded and you are being moved out of ICU!!
Lanette-Whoa! I think you responded to everyone with that last post! THAT impresses me. I have had a very fuzzy brain since my doc took me off the pill. Must be my brain is exiting with the estrogen?
Carol- I bet there are MORE than 200 things you can eat all you want of; they just won't mention how much work you have to put in to be able to do that.
Marcelyn and Machka- My mom used to serve pork with noodles and cabbage and also a dish called Hoppin' John.
Marcelyn explained the reason for the pork, noodles at the new year is considered lucky. Hoppin' John, which is a bean dish (I think black eyed peas) is also to bring you luck. I distinctly remember saying "Ewwww! Not Hoppin' John" as a teen. My own family usually has chinese food to ring in the new year.
Heather - If I were a guest in your home, I would gladly take care of that stout for you! I do love a good flavored stout, but with so many craft beers available, I can easily find an IPA or lager with flavor that I enjoy. I tend to lean towards coffee flavors more than fruit flavors. BUT there is a local brewery that makes a lovely blueberry and coriander flavored ale. Lost Dune by New Holland Brewery. Mmmmm!
Cilantro and Black Licorice- Yummmm! I think it was Lanette and some one else talking about these two flavors. I love them both and my DH despises them both. He says the same as you in regards to cilantro "tastes like soap". I should ask him "Palmolive or Lifebouy?" (A Christmas Story) meh. He wasn't spanked as a child, so I doubt he EVER had a bar of soap in his mouth. I was special, as I had a relationship with a wooden spoon and also was a mini-connoisseur of soap flavors.
Well, I am here in Texas. DD is still at work so son in law picked me up at the airport with Mr. Joaquin asleep in the back seat. J woke up when we arrived home and looked at me in confusion. "How did this woman get out of the phone?" He became my friend after I fed him some lunch (we had spaghetti and peas) and played with him and his toys. I tossed him around a little and "flew" him in the air (kept hands on him, just held him above my head and flew) and THEN he leaned in and gave me the wonderful hands on both cheeks, open mouth, very wet, baby kiss! My heart melted. He is snoozing again. He has a little cold; which means I will probably take it home with me. But SO worth it for one touch of those baby hands and a sweet little kiss on the face. His fur brother, Chappie, seemed to recognize me right away. He was doing the happy dog wag (where his tail knocks over everything that isn't nailed down) and bottom wiggling, and yippy-whine talking to me. He brought me his ball right away. (Yup, he remembers) I bet it's the eggs that I fix him for breakfast, when I am here. That is our morning routine when I visit. Grandma wakes up first, fixes Chappie and herself a couple of eggs. Grandma has coffee and chats with her friends on Women 50+, then she takes me for a walk to the park and then we throw the ball around. He's a good boy.
DD just called and asked me to make out a shopping list. We are going to grab dinner from Fuzzy's and then get the shopping done for the rest of the week. I asked son in law what he wanted to eat and got the usual man answer of "I don't care. Anything is fine." So then I asked about snacks and he said, "We don't usually buy snacks" So I told him that I had already budgeted groceries into my spending for this trip PLUS it's New Years Eve weekend. He asked for cheetos and beer. *sigh* Looks like I will have to show him how we do NYE! Going to get some "healthier" nibbles, but will also get some munchie type things. DD didn't want to make Christmas cookies, but wanted me to show her how to make the pretzels that I make. I think I will do that the evening before I leave, so that I don't eat them all. Love those things!
Ah well, that's all for now. I will have pictures to post as the week goes on. I hope to include one of myself and some of our Texas group! Msg me ladies if you would like to meet up and if any of those dates work for you!

KJ - I do like real stout, but the alcohol free variety is not so good. I will drink it, but of all the AF ones I have tried the one Pale Ale is the stand out best. I do also like a darker one called "Nanny State". GREAT name!
I have just had a delivery of 6 AF Pale Ales from the actual company, but I had to pay quite a high shipping charge. The Amazon is free.
I do love the emails Amazon sends (from India I believe). They are really a work of literature! I can't fault their customer service.
Still haven't heard from my friend.

Heather, sorry to hear you have been unable to contact your friend. I'm sure you are becoming a bit frantic. Sending good thoughts for both you and your friend. (((Hugs)))

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
Tracie, how wonderful that you found a new job and were able to leave stressville. (hugs)
M, the Southern tradition of Pork and Black eyed peas is for New Year’s Day.
Allie, please don’t stress over the many directions you are being pulled. Prayers are with you.
Carol, I love the NY day traditions. I never heard the part about washing clothes.
Terry, I think having an exercise partner would be a plus for anyone. You girls go for it.
Heather, I hope you hear from your cancer friend. That would be concerning.
Okie , I’m so glad to hear your TMJ is better. I’ve heard that is just torture.
Lanette, I wish we could wrap up our tree like your picture and put it away. It is just too big. Today we got all the decorations off and into their places. Now it’s up to DH to take it down and put it away.
Well, today was the day that DD was going to help me Un-decorate the tree. She has had a hard week at work and woke up in a foul mood. This puts the whole house in a foul mood. *sigh* She went back to her room and stayed there until midafternoon. *a good thing* In the meantime DH had gone to run errands and I took all the decorations off the tree except for the top that I couldn’t reach. I wasn’t willing to get on the step stool when no one else was around. DD got up about the time that DH got home and each of them was complaining about something. *ppffttt* For some reason I let it get to me and put me in a foul mood. I normally try to ignore it. At any rate, I blew up a bit, mixed a drink and came to my room and shut the door. I just hate that they growl at each other and talk under their breath. Sometimes I can take it and sometimes, not so much. They have calmed down but I only went downstairs long enough to mix another drink. Lol So much for calories today. I know we will all be fine later but I just hate to get upset. Thanks, ladies for letting me vent. I love you all so much.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

New Year's Eve/Day ... we always watched Guy Lombardo's New Years Eve Special at the Waldorf Astoria on TV when I was a child while waiting to see the big ball drop in NYC and the crowds singing Auld Lang Syne. My grandfather's 3rd wife insisted we put a coin outside on the window sill so we wouldn't have a shortage of money in the new year (considering she died a multi-millionaire ... this might be a consideration for those with money woes). After a kiss at midnight we would go to the front door and bang pots and pans for a minute or so. Now, I'm usually too tired to stay up until midnight!! Pork and sauerkraut was served on New Year's Day.
Joyce ... glad to hear you're out of ICU and getting ready to head home.
Allie ... hang in there ...

DJ, I feel for you! I have had DD's moving home time and time again with changes of job, break ups of relationships or other circumstances. And there has been strife and stress and dis-harmony. I am very sensitive to "moods" and it affects me so much that I can't relax, can't write, can't focus...And I know I've hid in my bedroom and hit the red wine to try to drown my irritation. LOl. Right now I have an empty nest and it is HEAVEN. So quiet and peaceful. If I want noise and chaos, I go visit them. LOL. It is HARD when your own home is invaded and there is no sanctuary-you can't really get away from them. It's like their vibes just travel through the walls and INFECT you. There have been times that I have to drive away in my van and park somewhere private where no one can disturb or annoy me. And even when Hubby is home there is NOISE as he walks in and immediately turns on the radio AND the TV and leaves both on all day whether he is inside or outside. (He also opens the curtains and or window in the bathroom which annoys me too!) So I go around turning off the noise and shutting the curtains so I can pee in privacy. Try headphones with your favourite music to block it out. Wendy

My new shoes!!
I LOVE Hoka's. I am on my third pair (one pair is retired and I rotate the other two). I am getting a pair of their trail running shoes next for my trail runs (better lugs for trails) My favorites so far are their Bondi series.
You will do great in your race. Just don't "rabbit" out of the start keeping up with everyone. Set YOUR pace and run YOUR race.

getting ready for freezing weather in Houston
They seem to take the pressure of my arthritic joints. Usually I wake up with really sore feet the day after a run, but this time my feet feel pretty good.
I do tend to start my runs fast, and I wonder why I'm gasping for air and why this run feels so difficult, then I have to tell myself to slow down a bit. I won't be the fastest person across the line ... I'm just hoping I'm not last.

I just lost everything! I post from my phone at night while I’m in bed which isn’t the easiest way to post.
So I’ll just say (((Hugs))) to those who need one and I’m doing a happy dance for those that have had an accomplishment .
I do need your opinion on something. I’ve been trying to come up with a name for my chainmaille jewelry business so that I can get a website going. Everyone is always asking me if I have one. So I’m thinking of using “Inspiring Connections”. I thought it fit because the jewelry is made by connecting jump rings together to form patterns. My DH says no because it doesn’t say what it is. But I can say “Fine Chainmaille Jewelry “ under the name. What do you think? Feel free to suggest other names.
Well time to put down the phone and pick up my book. I get to start a new one tonight. I love to start a book as it’s like meeting a new friend for the first time and slowly discovering things about them.
Hugs from Terry in freezing VT4 -
We will have pork, black eyed peas, collards and cornbread on New Year’s Day. The first three for the reasons others have already mentioned and the latter because you can’t eat peas or collards without cornbread. As for the clothes washing, my grandma always said you couldn’t wash clothes on “Old Christmas”, otherwise known as Epiphany. I can’t remember why - bad luck or something. We always tried to get our tree down before the new year, but just as many people left it up until Epiphany. And I always thought the twelve days of Christmas began with Christmas Day and ended with Epiphany.
I got all my decorations down and put away today. I have two bags and a box of stuff to donate tomorrow and another trash bag full to toss. I also got Dave’s wellness claims filed online in the nick of time - scored $60 in Amazon gift cards for my efforts. If he would have just talked to his doctor about the perils of falling, we could have had $10 more. Who knew, though, because he never reads his directions. I saw it online. Too late now.
I am making serious progress on my end of the year todo list. I like to start the year with organized files, office and house. I’m getting there.
