For sure, we can continue this into February. I'll make a February thread at the end of January. It is helping me so much to read all of your advice, struggles, triumphs. Tonight I went and bought two electric tea kettles. One is ceramic and one is glass- I'll take one to work. I have been substituting tea for wine. Day 17- another dry day. 17 in a row. I don't miss alcohol. But I am positive if I had just one drink , I would have two more immediately. That's just who I am. I love hearing your stories. Keep it coming. xo
Will I have to search for the thread or will it stay tagged? This is the only thread I've joined.
Last month, the group decided to start a new thread each month. Then, people can get a fresh start:)
I will call it exactly the same thing just change January to February. Once you find it, then star it so you will get notifications.5 -

I feel that if it happens again that I am prepared now and will decline. I am going to tell him today not even to ask me to taste.

I never even thought about that! I haven't been sweating at night either! One more reason to keep going at this. I don't think I really ever had any clue how much the XX bottles each week were affecting me.2 -
I've been silently following this thread since the beginning and I am working on day 17 of no alcohol too. I don't feel that I really ever had a problem, but last fall and into the holidays, I was noticing I was drinking so much more than usual. I had several reasons, mainly stress from work, my oldest daughter moving out and across the country and some other issues personally with her, AND.. my husband loves to drink, so it was just a social thing for us. I did feel like he was getting to the point of having a problem... drinking several beers a day, or several glasses a wine, and then topping it off with whisky or tequila in the evening.
For my company health insurance, this year both the employee and spouse had to do an annual physical with bloodwork. After he went for his, he cut down his consumption dramatically, so for the month of December, he really had a damp December, and I was the one drinking all the time. After my last half bottle that I drank on NYE.. I stopped, and he has continued his damp streak. I am proud of him and myself. Currently, I plan to continue through February, until we go on vacation. We are going to New Orleans, so I may cut myself some slack then, however, I don't plan to stop forever, I just want to be more conscious about my habit.
I've enjoyed all your posts.. this has been a really helpful thread as I check it about twice a week. As a daughter of an alcoholic, I am always worried that I will develop that disease.11 -
I'm sick. Does taking Nyquil count as breaking the dry spell?7

I'm sick. Does taking Nyquil count as breaking the dry spell?
LOL! I would think not -- unless Nyquil was something you drink to "enjoy"
I'm sorry you're not well -- I sympathize because all my best-laid plans to increase my activities and get things done (being alcohol-free) have been sidelined by a long-lasting flu/cold.
Hope you are over it soon.

I havent been a coffee drinker in a few years and this morning I had two cups. Now I feel I want to do back flips down the street in the snow!!! OMG I am so wired LOL!!!8

I cut out alcohol 'at-home'. It had become an ulgy habit. I'm two weeks in and enjoying the fact that I am sleeping better, as well as waking up without feeling crappy. I'm hoping to lose 30 pounds over the next half of the year. I'm finding I am able to accomplish a whole lot more with my days when I am not drinking on a daily basis. For those who try this, warning, the 1st week is "difficult" but it gets easier after that.7

Trying hard to cut out drinking for 12 weeks. I am a big-time social drinker. Last summer I went out with different friends at least 4 times a week. Over the winter I was able to cut down to weekends. I have explained to my various friends that I am trying to cut it out of my life to help offset the 40 plus pounds I gained. However, the phone calls keep coming in to socialize and drink. I realize all I have to do is say no, but after 12 plus hour work days sometimes its just hard.5

Holy cow. I’ve been having terrible nights sweats for about a year now. I have to change my shirt in the middle of the night usually. I just realized that the last couple weeks it hasn’t been happening like it was and you just made me realize why!!!! I even had my thyroid levels checked twice because I really thought something was wrong hormonally (they were totally normal each check). Wow, I need to write this all down and read it on the weekends when I’m craving the taste and buzzed feeling.3 -

18 days in.
2 days I had a few drinks. 3 days i had a few small beer samples at work. Only 1 day I ate unhealthy food and another 1 that I went over calories but it was on healthy food.
I have worked out 10 days and done yoga 2 days ( i really hope to increase that one)
And I am down 9 lbs!!
Definitely lookig forward to keeping this momentum10 -
Last post aside, I have made the conscious decision to have 2 beers tonight even though I am trying to keep it to just one day a week.
I proud of the hard work i have put in and i am motivated to keep this going. This night is just a bonus treat5 -

9 lbs down that is fantastic!!! How often do you weigh yourself?2 -
Sharing what I have noticed since reducing my consumption. My goal is no alcohol on days before I work (Sun-Thur). Two drinks (wine or beer) on Fri and Sat.
1. No hot flashes at night (also in the over 50 group here). But I am having a bit of trouble getting to sleep sometimes.
2. Skin is so much better.
3. Less skipped heart beats during the day. I have always had some of this (lots of doctors, tests). Quit caffeine years ago. But low alcohol has reduced the noticeable incidents. Wish I had figured this out before.
4. Resting heart rate is lower.
5. Exercise is easier. I have much more energy!
6. No rough mornings.
7. Memory seems to be improving too.
Lots of good reasons to keep this moderation going for good. Great work everyone!9 -

I want in on this! I just found the thread. I've been drinking a lot lately while dealing with a couple of sudden deaths in the family. It's gotten out of hand. So, my goal will be to only have Gluhwein when my husband does. He has one or two small glasses and just sips it, which is much better than what I've been doing!
I'm excited!3 -
Today was one of those days.... worked later than usual and thought I would in the past have went to a bar to have two glasses of wine and an appetizer before going home. Came home instead and put my workout clothes and and will do a youtube workout. There is this draw I have equating a reward with some alcohol and tasty food. I must get over it. Day 18 will be dry.
Yesterday, I went to acupuncture. I felt tingling in my kidneys during the session. *No needles were in that area by the way.
I can't explain it, but I felt so peaceful and renewed afterwards. And hopefully my liver and kidneys got some much needed TLC.9 -

I have had the same exact thing happen. Quit drinking and no night sweats at all. And of course, no heart beat palpitations at night too.3 -
