@polskagirl01 I have a friend in Poland and she recently got a smog mask for running. It's got a sort of skull design on it, so it looks totally badass. She also said it was hard to breathe in, but better than breathing smog.
I've seen those skull ones for sale on the internet, they do look cool. Mine are pretty boring though. They seem to be gaining popularity, especially among cyclists.
I went out for a little trail run through my recently-discovered woods today, and really enjoyed it. I can see the air today, but the app says it is only "lightly" polluted at the moment.

Managed a couple of runs so far this week - I really am finding that I enjoy runs more if I make them OVER 2 miles, anything less and I don't really get into the swing of things.
This morning I went out again an hour later than before. Really I should just have got up earlier, then done the run and had a lazy start to the day, rather than the other way round.
Instead, I set out with all the traffic and the fumes of people going to work, and once again nearly got hit by a car turning into a junction. I was busy trying to catch every other driver's eye, and a van had clearly stopped for me, and she wasn't even yet in position to turn, but still she went, staring at me in some weird form of horror as she came close. I confess, I have a special despising place in my heart for mothers on the school run, who think that getting little Johnny to school is more important that safe sensible driving.
Still waiting on tests and hospital appointments to figure out what is causing the swelling in my throat. I'm now running to keep my head clear and stop looking at Dr. Google. All hugs gratefully received.13 -

Started with running with my running group last night. It's called Run For God and they doing running and bible study. The group is working on going from 5K to 10K my two friends are in that category so I said sure. The run was 3 miles I ended up doing 3.5 because I got lost twice lol. The "lead" person took off with 2 others and soon I was pretty much by myself in the dark where I've never run before Once I had to wait for the group behind me to catch up another time I had to do some detective work to see where I needed to go. At one point the group leader who was running sweep told me left left right and straight to the church. No it was left left right left right right. Those last few were important ha ha. I really enjoyed it. I've been plugging along at 12+ minute miles with them even with stopping twice for directions I was just over eleven. I figured I'd teach these shorter distances as tempo runs for me. Some nice little hills so all in all a nice night.
Got up to pouring rain this morning so I'll try to get out tonight.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats for my HM! I will do better next year! I need to find one for later this year also but got a lot of long bike rides coming up. There's only so much time to train!
I did strength training yesterday at my little tri-gym and I have gotten faster so it was only 30 minutes. So decided to jump on the treadmill. Just did 2.89 miles - yeah, should have just gone another few minutes. But by then I needed to rush home!
Ran 4 miles this morning - nice, beautiful morning. Other than having to rush back for bathroom it was great.
2/1 - Strength Training - S3-A
2/2 - Rest
2/3 - Rest
2/4 - Daytona Beach HM 13.1
2/5 - strength training S3-A (repeating it)
2/6 - strength training S3-B + 2.89 miles treadmill
2/7 - 4 miles
5 -
5 miles in the rain this morning but the temp was a nice 42F so I'll take it!

@_nikkiwolf_ I never even looked at those numbers before. I guess I have been on the net too long because I just assumed there were cheaters/lairs in the top rankings and never bothered. The only leaderboard I look at is MFP. Pretty sure none of us is faking it. Though I frankly am amazed at how FLAT some of y'all... okay most of y'all's runs are! My flattest run for training is like 500 feet of elevation, and that is only if I deliberately route around the hills (sometimes they are not passable). Some of y'all somehow can run for miles and have only double digits... amazing.0

February goal: Keep kicking at Zumbro training
Nominal mileage goal: Let's say 140? I really don't know. Real plan is to follow training and coach's advice well.

2/3- 16.6
2/4- 4.2
2/5- REST
2/6- 9.1
Total: 35.4
Today's notes: plain old 6.7 miles for my hour run this morning. Nothing really special to report.
Hope everyone has a Runderful day!

2/1 - 4 treadmill miles at Trek Class. First three-day streak in ~4 weeks. I'll take it!
2/2 - Rest day. After streak, thought it was a good idea.
2/3 - 5.1 miles outside. Nice!
2/4 - Unplanned rest day - church activities + Super Bowl + sick kid = no workout / run
2/5 - Another unplanned rest day - sick kid is worse. Doctor visit, etc.
2/6 - Kid still sick and I'm feeling pretty lousy too.
2/7 - 4 treadmill miles and a nice upper body weight workout. I feel OK, kid a little better. Thanks for all the good wishes!
@skippygirlsmom - Sounds like a good group!
@PastorVincent - I live in Iowa...there aren't very many hills!
@ddmom0811 - Hate having to rush back for the WC.
@girlinahat - Hope you find out what's up with your throat. And school drop-off is the worst...everyone seems to think the rules don't apply to them!

I think I need one of those skull masks. Our air has been bad this winter. And people still burn when it's been freaking 80.
@Starflight00 I looked to see if there is a Rock n Roll event near you but none in Belgium. I think the closest would be Liverpool.
@PastorVincent You must be looking at my runs. I average 6 feet gain HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA3 -

Finally got out for a run after what seems like forever and i almost got hit running across the street. Totally felt like it was deliberate as i wasnt even in the middle when the douche started to turn and instead of turning behind me as i crossed the person kept trying to turn in front of me. So i stop and and did a dead stare at the person then slowly finished walking across the street. i should have shined my light thru their window and cussed them out cuz ive been hit with enough cars but i also didnt want the person to decide to start following and truly hit me.

@abutcher2122 WOW! Glad you are safe! My run this morning (started @ 0445 am, so very light traffic) I looked before crossing the road, no traffic, start running across the street, outta nowhere a lone vehicle, speeding, did not even slow down as it almost hit me! Found a little extra juice in my legs, I tell ya!
Feb: 25 miles
2/2 - 2.1 miles
2/3 - 2.15 miles
2/5 - 2.41 miles
2/6 - 2.44 miles - 9.1 run, 15.9 to go
Races:
2/17 - Susan B Komen Race For the Cure 5K
2/24 - Gasparilla 5K
Yearly goal: 200 miles - Jan 17.61 - 9.1 = 173.29 to run!5 -
@karllundy I'm glad you and your son are on the upswing. Being sick sucks.
@weat0043 ouch! have you seen a doctor? Do you know what's causing the pain? Hope you get that sorted out soon.
Oh my, @HonuNui ! That luau sounds phenomenal!
@rheddmobile If you ever leave your GPS on too long for a run, on Strava there is a "crop" function so you can cut off the offending portion. Not sure if MapMyRun has the same thing.
@abutcher2122 That sucks! I make it a standard practice to sweep the light from my headlamp across the windows of any vehicle if there's any chance at all that they might cross my path.1 -
My schedule run last night didn't happen. My son ended up playing 2 basketball games, then my wife and I got into conversation when we got home. Had I still gone out, it would have been a late night. I'm finally starting to get rid of this cold and didn't want to risk delaying that by not getting enough sleep.
Today was a rest day but I'll run instead. I'm trying something different tonight. I packed my run gear and will stop at a trail on the way home from work. The downside of that is Kody won't be running with me.

You were wise not to engage. Do not anger drivers, we do not want to read about you in the papers when some jogger finds your body.

February
Goal: 35 miles
Completed: 4.6 miles
02/02/2018: C25K - Week 5 Day 1
02/05/2018: C25K - Week 5 Day 2
02/05/2018: C25K - Week 5 Day 3
Day 3 is 20 minutes of running (between warm-ups/cool down) and I nailed it; I was slow as he l l but who cares!! I have always quit before this day (or while trying to do it) and to finish it today was so rewarding! (BTW, I'm excluding walking minutes/miles from my February totals). You are all so inspiring to me!

2/1-4.8 miles + 30 minutes strength training (back, chest, core)
2/2 33 min elliptical+yoga
2/3-9 miles w/ 7 @ tempo
2/4-12 miles easy
2/5-Rest Day
2/6-1.8 miles with Stella (under the weather)
Got a little side tracked with my training schedule yesterday. My original schedule called for speed work, but I was already thinking of switching that out for 5 easy miles since I have a 10K race on Saturday. But as the day wore on yesterday, I began feeling a little crappy with achy muscles and a scratchy throat. I did the normal back and forth between " do i run?" and "do I just skip it?" before I finally decided to compromise and settled for a short run with Stella, a pot of herbal tea and an early bedtime. Feeling a little better today, but still not great. With everything that has been going around this year, I am trying to avoid repeating past mistakes and willingly opening the door for something more sinister to set in. I will play it by ear for this evening.
@MNLittleFinn and @JessicaMcB -Looks like all of those ultra training miles are really paying off the speed dividends for both of you. WTG!
@HonuNui -Loved your post about preparing for your luau. It sounds awesome! Coincidentally, I just found out that I will be visiting Hawaii in November. We are staying in Honolulu for 2 days then taking a 7 day cruise around the islands. This is probably not my ideal way of visiting Hawaii, but my SIL is planning the trip, so I am just along for the ride. I'm sure it will still be wonderful. I may hit you up for some "must do" advice as we get closer the trip.7 -
2/1: 11.85 miles
2/2: 13 miles
2/3: 13.07 miles
2/4: 10.3 miles
2/5: 10.26 miles
2/6: 10.26 miles
2/7: 10.35 miles
Total so far: 79.09 miles/300

@lporter229 I had two coworkers who did the cruise around the islands. They enjoyed it. My DH doesn't like the idea of a cruise, so we've never done that. We have been to the 4 main islands (Maui and Hawaii twice). I think you'll enjoy it. It's hard not to enjoy Hawaii.2

That's what I was thinking, hard not to enjoy. When I travel to new places, I like to try and immerse myself in the local culture as much as possible. That's kind of why the whole cruise thing doesn't appeal to me. However, I have never actually been on a cruise before, so I guess I should not knock it!0 -

Ain't that the truth. Hubs and I spent a week hiking on the Big Island with an organised group, and then another week hiking on Kauai on our own. We would go back in a heartbeat.1 -

The snow is coming down fast today. I heard 2" an hour, no idea if that's the case but I do know when I took the dog for a walk our tracks were pretty much filled by the time we had our return trip in less than an hour. I intended to hit the Y and then go in to work. I did get my treadmill run in and then decided I was better off working from home today because the roads are already awful and it's supposed to just get worse. So I'm in for the rest of the day, watching it snow and getting ready for a web conference later.
@abutcher2122 sorry about your car encounter. So scary and maddening too. I had a similar one last night walking with the dog. I had my head lamp on and a lighted belt, was crossing in a crosswalk with signs saying stop for pedestrians (and it was clear, no snow on the road), and the car was at a stop sign on a side street waiting to turn onto the road I was crossing. I was sure they saw me but either they didn't, or they didn't think they should have to wait for me, so they started out before I was across and then had the nerve to honk at me. I was tempted to throw my poop bag at them. Ugh.
@lporter229 hope you are feeling better soon. Good idea to scale back in order to recover more quickly.

This picture from my HM this past weekend cracks me up. You would think the announcer said "Get on your mark, start your garmin...."

I'm wondering if I'm low on Vitamin D again. I had this problem about this time last year. I should have been feeling great, but was feeling crummy instead. Extra tired and a bit sluggish, even though I'm getting decent sleep. I've been lazy with my supplements, so time to keep on them again. Eating at maintenance this week (yay race week).
Looking to putting together a DIY plan for bridging from now until the 4/14 trail race. It's a 10k distance with 1000' elevation gain. I'm regularly running that on my weekend long runs. I'd like to incorporate one other trail run per week into my regimen if possible. For five seconds I was considering the 25k distance in April, but unless I could faithfully get one trail short run during the week and not miss any long runs on trail (plus, increasing my distance dramatically on the weekends), I'm not sure I'm ready to meet that challenge. The September race I'm looking at I have marked for doing the 8k, but I really feel like I could do the 22k. I'm parking that in my nugget and we'll see how the summer progresses. I want to slide in a July trail race, also, so that will be a good gut check on what to do for September. Hubby and my son are doing a boundary waters trip for 2 weeks in July, so I can kind of do what I want without regard to their schedule.
