7 trail races
3 St Patrick's Day (one is a challenge with a 1k kilt run Fri/8k run Sat so not like 3 full races).
And there's another race in May I'd like to do but registration isn't open yet. Plus I want to do the Rock n Roll Vegas marathon but that's not open yet either.
what trail races?0 -

I'm thinking about saving up to go skiing/snowboarding. But that'll pass when the Olympics are over. I still have Big Sur half on my buck list. I gotta get better at walking first though
There are around 6000 slots reserved for charity runners. They need to be involved with one of the sponsoring charities, and I think they need to raise a minimum of $5000. So yes, if you have that kind of money to throw around on top of the entry fee and the hotel (not an issue for locals, I suppose), you could buy your way into Boston. But I think the vast majority of the charity runners really do the hard work of doing fund raising for a cause they believe in. In my case, raising $5K for charity would be harder than just running a BQ marathon to get in.
^^^^ this. Most big races reserve charity places, and they have pretty big targets to hit for those going in with one.
Not for me... I think it would be much easier to raise $5K than to run a BQ race in 3:02 or faster (technically 3:05, but we know they cut a few min. off when it comes down to sending out invites). I'm not saying either is actually easy, but by comparison it is actually possible to raise $5K and I don't think it is possible for me to run a marathon in that time.
For me, the allure of running the Boston marathon had more to do with setting the difficult goal of a qualifying time and working my *kitten* off to achieve it. For achieving that goal, running the marathon was the reward. I agree that raising $5K for charity is also a difficult challenge. But I would be more likely to take that challenge on by raising the money for a local event like the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Walk or something that is close to me. That kind of accomplishment would be its own reward. For me, I just don't associate the "reward" of running the race with the goal of raising the money.4 -
Lol - *love*...is that an MFP Valentine's Day special?5

what trail races?
6 of them are a series called Cactus Flower Run Series. 3 in spring, 3 in fall. A 5k, 6k, and 7k at either White Tanks or Estrella Mountain parks.
The other is a new one called Hot as Hell in May. Its the same company and race as the one I did so badly at a few weeks ago. I signed up for the quarter knowing I'd never be able to do the same loop twice for the half.
I'm not to the high mile races like you and Jessica. I still have yet to do my marathon.2 -

I think both would be hard for me. I'll be lucky if I can finish a marathon in under 5 hours. I tried to raise money once for celiac disease in conjunction to a race I was doimg amd got one donation of $50 haha1 -

Both are presently out of my reach too, so I feel yah!1 -
@girlinahat - 11-12min pace is great and better than all those people who never get out the door! I always tell myself that there are always going to be people faster, much faster than me but there may also be people slower too. Heck even with my slow (terrible) HM run a few weeks ago I finished ahead of 2500 other runners and 120 other women in my AG.
@Teresa502 - For Disney the races have become a real money maker and there is so much demand. I ran the inaugural Star Wars HM here and could not believe the merchandise and what they were charging for it. We had fun at the expo but were expecting lots of picture ops and fun events but mostly they were just promoting their other races. After the race there was nothing notable although my husband said they were showing movie clips to keep everyone entertained while they waited. I am glad I did one, I just probably won't ever do another one.
My first half marathon back in 2010 was run at a 12:17min pace. Yep it was slow, but I finished it, and as you say, I was a darn sight faster than all those people at home on the couch. I improved the pace to a whopping 11:10min pace the following year for my second and third HMs.
I then managed to injure myself and stayed away from the distance for quite a few years. Ran my fourth HM last November and no one was more surprised than me when my pace ended up being a shade under a ten minute mile and I finished fourth in my age-group. No, I'm never going to qualify for Boston, but as long as I keep improving I'm happy.12 -
2.14 miles this morning for Valentine's Day and the "Luv 2 Run" virtual race. When I signed up for this one, I hadn't yet run more than a mile or so nonstop, so 2.14 felt like a nice stretch goal. But this morning it was my "short and easy" run for the week. What a difference a little time and determination can make, no?

I agree both would be hard, but one of them is impossible while the other is just very difficult.
I recently did a Polar Plunge and got $75 in donations... $50 of it was from me.5 -
Happy Valentine's Day

No run today. Forcing myself to slow down. Too busy of a week.2

February goal: 15 miles
2/10 - 2 miles
2/12 - 2 miles
2/14 - 1 mile
Total: 5 miles6 -
I took Tuesday as a rest day...ankle was feeling a little stiff, which I assume is down to ramping up the mileage pretty quickly. It feels fine now, and so I have time for one more run tomorrow morning before I'm on-call at work for the week (translation: I can't just get up and go running). That means I get a forced week of rest (which should be a good thing), and if I can do at least 10 miles tomorrow, then I'll have reached my goal for the month. That will mean that any mileage that I do after the 22nd, when I'm no longer the primary on-call guy, will be bonus mileage.
Today's run was rather pleasant...45F in February? I'll take that.
01 - 11.49
02 - 16.21
05 - 15.79
06 - 13.76

09 - 20.07
12 - 15.54
14 - 13.737 -
Had a great run last night with my local running store and we had mini cupcakes and wine afterwards for Valentine's Day. It was pretty icy though so the last half mile was more of a shuffle while trying not fall.
I signed up for my first trail race and I'm excited. My husband agreed to run it too so that's even better.

February 2 - strength workout
February 4 - 2.25 mile Treadmill run
February 6 - 4 mile Treadmill run

So ummm... those of you up running the miles, distances, elevations, and like that I do... do you see a normal doctor if you get injured, or do you find a sports doctor of some kind? If you see a special sports doc, how do you find one? I am in a big city so should be able to find one, I would think.
Not planning to see one soon, but considering the possibility of it. Probably put it off till after Glacier though

@PastorVincent I just went to my regular doctor to get my shin seen to. It's not really recommended to put off seeing a doctor though...some things can end up getting much worse, which can mean greater recovery times being needed.2

Oh, I will. I was mostly joking around about that... just not sure it has risen to the doctor level yet. When you have as many medical issues as I do, you can not go to the doctor every time something changes. It's just not physically possible to go that often.3 -
February goal: 88 miles
2/1 - 4.0 miles
2/4 - 9.2 miles
2/7 - 4.4 miles
2/8 - 4.3 miles
2/9 - 4 miles
2/11 - 8.2 miles
2/12 - 4 miles
2/14 - 4.2 miles (intervals)
42.3/88 miles completed
It definitely warmed up. 84°f and pretty windy made for some tough intervals. I need to figure out how to set up and use the interval function on my Garmin Fr35. Maybe I will get to that befire my next interval run.

Sigh, school shooting again at a high school. It's several hours from the HS where I teach, but we are all just sick about it. We have a code red scheduled for this morning - which was set since the beginning of the year - so we are all supposed to warn the kids first "it is just a drill" so no one panics.
I'm really addicted to my lifting program. It's definitely impacting my running miles, but it's probably good to mix things up. I am doing a 12 week program... from Women's Health.
2/1 - Strength Training - S3-A
2/2 - Rest
2/3 - Rest
2/4 - Daytona Beach HM 13.1
2/5 - strength training S3-A (repeating it)
2/6 - strength training S3-B + 2.89 miles treadmill
2/7 - 4 miles + Strength training S3-C (arms)
2/8 - 3.5 miles
2/9 - Strength training S3-D Glutes
2/10 - 44 miles cycling
2/11 - 51 brutal miles cycling
2/12 - strength training S4-A
2/13 - 5 miles! Intervals + Strength training S4-B
2/14 - Strength training S4-C
2/15 - 4.5 Miles Intervals + tbd

This was so heartbreaking and upsetting and I'm not even in a school setting or have children. Hope all goes well with your drill this morning.1 -

My new baby (Garmin Vivoactive 3) is out for delivery! I'm at work! Fortunately, I work 1.8 miles from my house, lol. So, if it's been delivered before lunchtime I am most definitely swinging my lunch run by my house to pick it up.
