Your DD should think safety first. The warning signs are there. She needs to contact a battered women group and follow their advice of how to get out. A restraining order or a no contact order is tricky because it might inflame him more. The order only means the police will temporarily put him in jail if he breaks it. It only might slow him down. Rather than go down there use the money to help her leave. If she doesn't leave for herself she needs to think of her children their lives are in danger too. The fact that he would do something like that he would take the legs off his children's trampoline shows he has no regard for his children's feelings. Prayers for her and you. It is a horrible way for her to have to live. She and her children deserve better!

Terry, When I started my current journey to weight loss, I used the suggestions from the several "food addicts" groups I knew about. I planned and logged my food plan for the day and stuck to the plan "no matter what". The first day it included graciously refusing a bagel that a friend brought me and sitting at the computer watching the clock waiting for the time I planned for my next meal. A few days later, it included bringing my own meal to an event so I could be sure that I ate only what I had planned. At the event, I found that there was another woman who had brought her own meal for exactly the same reason. I kept doing that same thing one day at a time and the weight came off and staying with the plan became automatic. You can make the decision to change right now.

Good morning all! Busy day yesterday. I did my normal Saturday grocery shopping, errand running, and picked up some supplies for new sensory bins for the kids. I will be making about ten pounds of kinetic sand for a sand bin, ten pounds of "magic" sand (sand sprayed with Scotch Guard to repel water), a bean bin, a pebble and rock bin, a couple of sorting bins, and a "messy" bin that will need to be emptied and washed after each day as it will be filled with messy things, like water and sand, shaving cream, flubber/gak, water beads, mud... I will take pictures and post later.
I am pretty excited about my new "centers" and upgrades I have planned. All possible, because I applied for and received a $500 improvement grant from the state! I do need to turn in receipts and photo proof of improvements made, but I can make $500 go really far!
I am getting ready to put a turkey in the oven. lol For me, this is a BIG over-achiever type of thing to do. In my life, I have tried to cook a whole turkey three times. All three times it has not cooked long enough. But, I was given a turkey for Thanksgiving and it has sat in my freezer. I decided to cook it up. The guys are not fond of turkey, but I have recipes for turkey tetrazzini, Buffalo chicken/turkey sliders, and a turkey curry. I have hope that they will enjoy some of these flavors.
I will make and freeze a couple of meals for my inlaws. I have a twenty pound turkey. Am I reading the instructions correctly; it needs to roast for 13-15 minutes per pound?!? I will be roasting this turkey for approximately 4 1/2 to 5 hours?!? Not a problem; but precooked, spiral sliced hams are SO much easier for the holidays and is usually the route I go. As a matter of fact, I have two hams in my freezer. They went on sale last week for $1.29/pound, so I bought one last week and another this week. I remember, last year, the price skyrocketed to $40-$50/half ham in the two weeks before Easter. So...even if the price goes up this week, I have Easter Ham taken care of. ooooh that reminds me that I need to check the price of corned beef. St. Patrick's Day is even closer.
Today is my fast day. So I am lingering over a second cup of coffee. I didn't sleep well last night, so my body is already going into "feed me" mode. I have some veggies and fruits to wash and prep for the week; that should keep my mind off my belly for a while. I will also begin making the "sauces" for the meals, so that when the turkey is done roasting, I can just add the sauce and be done with those meals a little quicker.
Kim- As soon as I read your description of the rashes, I wondered if it might be shingles. Glad you are finding a little relief with the otc stuff; but I agree with Mary, that you should get it checked out by a doc. Especially since it seems to be spreading.
Allie-In case you are still hanging in here; you have a bunch of ladies that are far away and just want to protect you from the wolves (in this case Tom). Please take our advice simply the way it is intended, as a show of love and support. Sending you strength in whatever course you choose to follow to achieve your results. It's not easy when you are on the front lines of any situation.
Heather- Love Bob Marley! A lot of his music is on my playlist for my kiddos. They call it beach music, but he was such a poet and spokesperson for social/civil injustice!
Machka- Woo-hoo! Excited for your race! I love hearing about your experiences and things you see as you ride. Will your training change much between now and the race? You already seem to ride so much.
Janet- congrats on the outlet for your beautiful beaded ornaments! Hope it works out when you and DH go to check out the store. So pretty!
Lisa- so glad that you and Corey were able to get away for a bit. sounds like it is just what you needed.
Well, hugs to every one else. As I have been composing this post, I have gotten the turkey in the oven and now my guys are waking up and looking for food. So...before they begin destroying my kitchen, I will make a couple of omelets for them. That way they are out of my hair and kitchen quicker! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -
Janetr - Great news on the new possible retail adventure!
Machka - Excellent job on the 215k. I'm reading books on ultramarathons. Prefer reading about it to actually doing it. If I ever get to do 10k it'll be a miracle.
Well, I sent my son a short email and just now he rang me. He hadn't read my email, but he rang me all by himself. All going well so far, 4 weeks sober. He's doing more exercise and is seeing a therapist and going to AA. He doesn't intend at the moment to never drink again (but he knows it may come to that) , so he hasn't got a sponsor, but he is finding it very useful. He says they are all in a worse state than him, so he finds it a comfort. DDIL is being "amazing".
This coming week he has got a beer/wine trade festival up in London and is dreading it. He's going to say he is driving when offered a drink. He has organised himself two AA meetings before and during the two day festival. When I asked him if a change of job was a possibility he said "Maybe" . Very hard.
Can't organise a visit until Bea's birthday, but we are going to Skype next Saturday.
I told him all about my running and he was very enthusiastic and supportive. DDIL does Parkrun every Saturday. If we move to the spot we want to in Hove there is a Parkrun every Saturday along the seafront. Up to 600 people!
So glad to have heard from him.

Heather So glad that your son called you. Reassuring.
Kelly Yep, you read the instructions right. Main problem is drying out the breast. Some people put butter under the breast skin, some use foil for first few hours to cover the breast, some baste it periodically, some do nothing...good luck! I'm sure it will be delicious.
Dana Adding my 2 cents worth...you probably already know there are tracking sites on the internet where someone's location can be tracked using their cell phone number. Also, don't forget there are motion-sensor alarms that can be installed across your daughter's driveway, breezeway, gate entrance, etc. Gives her a heads up when someone is approaching. (((Hugs)))

Happy Sunday! It is a beautiful, beautiful Spring like day here. Love it!5

Becca - that house on Whidbey is adorable; I'm sure the right place will pop up at the right time. Isn't fun to "mentally move in" when residence shopping? Would be even more fun to have a walk through. Another reason for someone to get a teleporter invented. Dear Elon Musk - who cares about Mars when we need an instantaneous way to transport ourselves a hundred miles, lol. Get on it!
Barbie - The few times I rode the ferries, I used to love it when the weather was like yesterday. Probably because I knew the ride wouldn't last that long so the idea of getting seasick didn't come up. Now, just reading about your trip I'm getting woozy, lol. Way to go getting all those steps in! You get a gold medal!
Heather - the snack cupboard is actually a pantry in my laundry room. I think it's supposed to be a custodial closet, but the homeowner prior to us put in nice shelves and there's no other food pantry in the house. So I have canned goods and food stored in there. DH's box of assorted chips and candy bars stares at me every time I walk past. I'm proud to say I haven't seen Little Debbie in there for months. Now to tape a photo of Pip's big foot over the candy box! Glad you heard from your son, by the way. Sounds like he's making good plans to take control of the drinking.
Janetr - how exciting to sell your ornaments in a retail space! Neat idea sharing it with your jewelry making friend. That little shop sounds cute, I used to spend a lot of time in them not only shopping, but getting ideas!
Terry - (((HUGS)))
Kim - sorry to hear about that rash. It's a puzzler-glad you are able to keep the itching down. Have you changed laundry soap, body lotion, etc? I'm sure you've contacted Dr. Google. Also, if there's a pharmacist in your town, you might ask his/her advice first. It's free and they might know of something available over the counter! Some of them are helpful and chatty like that.
If you end up seeing the doc, I'm sending good thoughts that it will be inexpensive and any meds prescribed will be reasonable. And that it goes away once and for all.
Dana - great photos of Dolly and you and Bob! So sorry to hear about your daughter's situation. I agree, stay safe - you know this guy and how he thinks. Send him over to NZ to help Wendy. She's been shoveling and hauling dirt. Tell him to be careful and not hit his head on the shovel tho. He might accidentally fall in a hole! I'll be sending the virtual cast iron frying pan flying his way in the meantime.
Wendy and Sharon - love the bee keeping outfits. I have to keep reminding myself it's late summer for Wendy and Machka - our August in N America which is normally HOT! Wendy, I'm mentally having a picnic on your deck. I don't blame the visitors for wanting to sit there and enjoy the flowers....if only that's what they'd do. After taking you and DH out to eat, buying you some nice wines, etc.
Machka - take care of those tootsies. You and your DH did a commendable job on that bike ride despite the heat.
Lisa - (((HUGS))) I am so excited for you and Corey to get on with your lives. Being in limbo can be unsettling, but sounds like your job is keeping you grounded.
Kelly - your turkey smells GREAT! I can smell it out here, lol. I am the worst at roasting a turkey, always seems raw on the inside and cremated on the outside no matter what I would do. Maybe a gigantic cooking bag is the answer. With just us 2 here, I don't tackle one anymore but if I see a good deal on a small one I might and have a lot of freezer meals ready.
Kay - I'm a long time fan of Weight Watchers, and if they hadn't made their new GUI so laptop unfriendly, increased the price so much and stopped having meetings when it was convenient for me, I'd probably still be going there. I think their new eating plan is good, from what I know of it and it's trending toward low-carb. I would generally only pop in to weigh in since I'm on lifetime (or was) and not stay for the meeting. Liked having that accountability. I've been able to bring their ideas over to MFP which actually has a better logging system, I think. The price of MFP is very affordable, too. As they say, do what works for you.
OK, I'm getting behind. Already have done 2 loads of laundry, put flea treatment on the dogs and cat which should hold them for a month.
We are watching the SNOW come down, loads of it. Will have to take the broom out after while and knock it off some of the evergreens so branches don't get broken too badly from the heavy wet stuff.
Glad we get to stay home today. All of you ladies in the Pacific Northwest, drive safely if you need to go anywhere!!
Have a good day, ladies. I'll check in later.

Heather: I've been thinking about your son and also wondering whether you felt the earthquake. I am so happy that you heard from your son. Things sound like they are headed in a better direction. I am hopeful that your son keeps making good choices, one day at a time. :flowerforyou:
No riding lesson today because there is snow on the road to the arena. :ohwell: We don't have any snow where I live next to the river.

Heather: So glad your son is moving forward! Glad he called you. We have an extended family member that is an executive chef at a country club. He has to produce wine tasting events and so forth, but, he has made it through with success. My son has a sponsor at AA who won't put up with any of my son's nonsense. I am so glad he found him.
Wendy: You make me ache just talking about all you do. You are one strong lady and I really look up to you.
Kelly: Those bins sound like the children are going to have a great time exploring and learning. I hope your turkey comes out fine. I'm with your son and DH as I really don't like turkey that much. Would rather have a baked hen.
Barbie: Your ferry ride sounds a little scary.
Dana: Hugs for you and your daughter! Is she the one who does wonderful yoga?
DJ: I'm so sorry about your friend's illness and hope it will work so she can move close to you. And, I know it will be a relief when your daughter gets her own place. I like my own little piece of privacy.
I have read and read and not taken notes, so wishing a happy, peaceful day to all.

I’m just lurking
Goals this week:
Trying not to drink beer
Eat more veggies
Buy new shoes (my feet are killing me after my walks)
Also, my heart rate when I exercise is really high. Up to 218 on Friday. WTF? Trainer says my top should be 120. Is it my apple watch? Im pretty new to this. Never really looked at my heart rate till now.

About the ferry ride. After I got back in the car (we were the first car on so we were at the front of the boat), two guys walked up to the front to the barrier they pull across at the end and stood there taking pictures of Seattle and then a selfie of the two of them with the Seattle skyline as a background. The wind and turbulence didn't bother them at all.
Kelly, I have been cooking turkey with great success for years. I cook a turkey in an oven bag and it comes out tasty and moist and takes less time to cook.
I walked this morning with my friend and no dogs. It started snowing right after I met her and snowed the whole time we walked until the ground and roads were totally covered. For awhile, our footprints were the only marks on the road. Life doesn't get much better than this.

Pip: I can't help wondering how you manage to keep that foot on a bicycle pedal.
Barbie: Your rough water trip to Seattle doesn't sound like fun. I hope your trip home is smoother. :flowerforyou:
Janet OKC: Good luck with your ornament business. I hope you have found a good situation and great success.
Wendy: Enjoy your arena!
Kim: I hope your remedies cure your rash. Could you have gotten some sort of chemical on your skin that caused the rash? :flowerforyou:
Dana: Your soon to be Ex son in law sounds unbalanced. I think visiting your daughter is a good idea. Can your DH come along? I worry that both you and your daughter might be in danger. Her soon to be ex sounds like a nutter.
Sharon in Lethbridge where it is a winter wonderland again: It is reasonable to fear falls on hidden ice under snow. I have broken both wrists in falls on unseen ice. Fortunately, both wrists have healed well. Stay safe! :flowerforyou:

Thank you all for the supportive comments on my son. He told me a story about when he was first in the wine trade, around 23 yrs old. He used to go every so often to a posh charity event, held at the Dorchester, which was to support people in the same trade who had hit the buffers with alcohol. He said at the time he had no idea what all the fuss was about.
I watched The Truth About Getting Fit again today. According to their charts my fitness is of a less than 35 yr old man!!!!!! Great tips for getting fit with no equipment and no space. No excuses!
Dinner tonight is authentic ragu cooked in the IP. We're having it over roasted cauliflower with a bit of tagliatelle for DH. There will be loads to freeze. Hooray!
