Day 3. Moving forward. Staying off Facebook with the exception of letting family and friends know I’ll be offline for a while. Can’t say it’s been easy. I had been spending a lot of time on it.
I’ve been reading through this thread and learning. Seems like a very supportive community. Glad I found this group.9 -
Monday greetings ladies from Saskatchewan.
My heart rate tripped the machine to alarm in the program this morning. I've promised the trainer to have it checked out. I seem to remember the treadmill stopping on its own back a few years. Pretty sure I'm just special.
I'm off to get my 4 year old granddaughter that I am bringing home for the week. I wonder how to log the extra calories burned running after a 4 year old??
Anyways, it should be fun! Have a great day!

Got my walks in yesterday, and felt good about it. Did well all day into even. Emotional eating took over. Been off the horse and out of sorts the last two weeks. Does on the scale as I’ve gained two pounds this week. Have to get a handle on this.

Rita One method that works for me is committing to just one day of eating properly, no matter what. Once I get through that one day and wake up the next day, I feel more in control. It always starts breaking down for me in the evening, too, when I am going through a bad time. I find that brushing my teeth, making a cup of hot tea, chewing sugarless gum, getting busy with a puzzle, getting on MFP, and going to bed early are all helpful in getting throught the danger zone. The key for me is getting through just one day. Hope that helps a little.

We are a very supportive community. I check in briefly with FB each day because it's the only way I can keep up with my friends and relatives halfway across the country, but I spend less than 5 minutes a day. MFP, however, is a different story...

Sharon - I use YakTrax in icy conditions...easy to slip on & off and with little metal coils instead of spikes, they won't tear up a dry sidewalk if the ice is just patchy. Just be sure to remove for driving!5

Walking my feet off in Rome. It’s cold and rainy but our spirits are high. I love the espresso and DH loves the pastry (not me!). Here’s 2 simple pics so far8

Evidently today was a paid holiday for me ... which I discovered after I went to work and found no-one there. So I worked a few hours and will take the paid holiday time elsewhere. But I really could've benefited from a sleep-in day! Rats.
Home now and trying to clean/declutter some areas in the house that drive me nuts. Have bone broth in the instant pot and zuppa toscona on the stove for dinner. It's dreary here and soup sounded good.
Nothing new on the housing situation for my son. My husband and I went looking for hardwood/laminate flooring for son's old bedroom. The carpet has to go if I bring him and all his equipment home. He was a lot lighter when he moved out and was more assistive in transfers then too ... now he relies a lot on equipment that will not move on carpet.
Very disturbed this weekend to learn that a personal care aide that left our employ this past summer was charged with child rape and sentenced to 10 years jail time. He's 23 years old ... He was polite and respectful to me at all times ... just not good at personal care. I never would have connected the dots. By the news account, it seems his victim was a family member. This is the second person of our acquaintance that has been convicted of rape this winter. The other is a 20 year old man sentenced to 3 years for statutory rape. He is a clergyman's son. Sigh.
KarenVA ... I like your suggestions about "one day!" I need to focus on that as well.
Off to declutter!

Happy Monday!
Beth- Congrats on your surprise day off! lol I keep hoping for one of those...hardwood floor/laminate: look online for pick up at a local store, like Home Depot, Lowes, etc. DH and I found flooring that was being discontinued (and therefore really inexpensive) online and picked it up in store.
Janet- Hannah is gorgeous! Happy birthday to her! It is that time of year for first birthdays! Olivia, Hannah, Mia, Joaquin (some of last year's crop of newborns). Time flies!
KarenNY- I would take Rome in the rain! That fountain ornament looks like an angry Donald Duck! lol But those paintings are gorgeous! What building was this in?
Karen- huh...a tank for a tankless system? I am thinking a man must have thought that one up!
Pstegman and Sharon- I use Yak Traxx, too. They have other types of similar pull-over traction devices; many of them are spikes, though, and I would be the one putting holes in my flooring because I can't get them off outside in time to get inside to pee.
RunningMaven- I have given facebook for lent, as well. I am finding it excruciating in the morning to NOT go on, simply because I had built time into my mornings FOR facebook. But it has really been bringing out the worst in me and had to go. I just started doing some exercise during that time block.
Rita- You are still walking! Good for you! You will pull out of the funk you are in as far as eating goes. I know you can and you will. Do you have a hobby or something you can do in the evening instead of slipping off the "food wagon"? A "busy hands" sort of thing? Or an outdoor thing? Perhaps making a photography journal and document all of the beautiful and amazing things you see on your walks?
Pip- I love the fact that you got a photo of the artist who did the painting of you and the family!
Laura- keeping up with a four year old? Change your calorie allowance to "active". lol I don't know if mfp has this option, but if you lead a pretty active lifestyle, you are given more calories to fuel yourself.
Heather- So happy that DYS called you to talk!
The new bins went over really well with my kiddos. They spent a good two hours playing quietly with them. Ironically, it worked out that each child had a "favorite" bin and ended up not being the same as any one else's. So...no fights over "mine" or sharing issues. They all took a turn at each bin, but would gravitate back to whichever was their favorite. Gracie liked the bean bin with the measuring cups, spoons, and funnels; Ellie liked the sorting bin with the colored pompons and matching tubes to sort them into; Rowan liked the alphabet and number bin (puzzles), and Jackson liked the sand and rock bin with dinosaurs and construction vehicles. Easiest morning I have had in a while.
Oh! My turkey turned out! lol I ended up putting the some herbed butter under the skin (as well as on the skin), then instead of using a rack in the bottom of the roasting pan, I used celery, onion, carrots, and potatoes to keep it up off the bottom. Stuffed it with an apple, orange, carrot, celery, onion and herbs. The flavors were nice, but it still tasted like turkey. LOL! The gravy that the drippings made is fantastic! You can taste that bed of vegetables and a bit of the citrus. Hubby was impressed. I also figured out why my previous attempts at turkey have failed. The pop up timer on turkeys. This one popped up about three hours in. So I am thinking that is what all of my other ones did, and why I assumed my turkey was done. When I pulled the turkey out of the oven (when it was actually done), I sent a text to my DH "You should see it! It's beautiful!" He sent a picture back to me of the turkey from Christmas Vacation. LOL! ANYWAY! Thank you all for your advice and roasting hints! I am making the buffalo turkey sliders tomorrow night for dinner!

Had the annual grandkids photo taken today. Walking in with 13 kids you see sweat form on the photographers brow and panic cross their face. It went well. We understand there will always be crying babies, goofy faces and deer-in-headlights looks. As long as you go in expecting that it's all good. I told everyone to wear jeans and black socks and I'd get their shirts. I think it turned out pretty well. I had a group photo taken and then individual families.
