Saxenda does not work

That makes sense, considering the high dose of pain medications and anesthesia could have played a factor. I should have just chosen a more scientific forum.
You got a lot of answers dealing with the science of weight loss.
You didn't want to hear any of them.
You think you know a lot, but what you "know" isn't working.
That's fine. It will keep you where you're at, though.
At some point, you'll need to decide what's more important, your pride, or your desire to do something about your weight.
Best of luck to you.16 -

But you expected to not only feel the effects of a drug which the manufacturer themselves says takes time to have effect after 4 days (so I'm sorry that contradicts your physician but I'm going with the manufacturer on this one) and also expected to see it on the scale. That is absurd, particularly coming from someone who is so adamant they are a health professional who knows it all.
And if you haven't lost after 7 months, then you are eating too much. Whether knowingly or unknowingly (could be poor logging, could be a medical condition as yet undiagnosed that lowers your caloric needs) you are not getting the balance of energy correct to see your body use its excess fat stores as energy and thus cause a drop on the scale. SCIENCE.19 -

This may seem strange to you, but people here can read. No one assumed you had been trying to lose weight for 4 days. It was clear that you had been on the medication for 4 days and are now looking for excuses for why it's not working, but refuse to consider that you might be doing something wrong. Best of luck figuring it out. To assume that you are the only one here who has any scientific understanding, or health care experience is rather narrow minded. There are so many users, plenty who are well educated in body processes.14 -
Curious--are you even diabetic? Because that's what Saxenda primarily is--a drug to help control blood sugar. Weight loss is only a side effect... and not all side effects are seen in every single patient who ever takes a drug.7

If you think you know what you're doing and the scale isn't moving for seven months?
You need to think again.
I said it before. You need to decide what's more important: your pride in what you think you know, or your desire to lose weight?
Do you know how easy it is to count calories improperly?13 -

Well congrats, OP! You found your maintenance calories! Now just eat less than that and you'll be golden.
I agree with the others - you've gotten fantastic advice in this thread. It just so happened to be advice you didn't want to hear. That's fine if you're not ready. We will still be here to help you when you decide to face facts.
Good luck, OP!19 -

The only foolish thing is believing that there are no professionals on here, and disregarding solid advice. If you were in a deficit, you would be losing weight. You do not defy the laws of science, no one does.13 -
So I probably missed it but did the OP ever say for sure whether she uses a food scale to weigh and measure food intake?

I'm looking for a medical fix at this point because my body fat level just reached obesity and I've always been in shape. Not a thyroid issue. Not a hormonal issue. Blood work is fine. I mix up my cardio. I do strength training. I'm never on my couch. Am I supposed to live off 1200 cals a day and stay active? No. I go between 1500-1800 and no sugar ever. I'm not looking for nutrition advice. I'm looking to see if anyone had taken this particular drug and experienced no hunger reduction, no side effects at all.
Have you ever thought to ask those who've actually been successful at this whole thing for their input? Seems like that would be a good place to start. But sounds like you're not interested in advice or help so yeah, good luck
I would love to hear what you are doing that is different from calorie deficit, no sugar, no processed carbs, portion control, no alcohol, high fiber, lots of water, 5 workouts per week including cardio and strength training, plus walking my dogs 30 mins a day every week. Plus weekend hikes. Please tell me.
Counting calories accurately and consistently. Weighing everything on an electronic food scale. Checking every database entry, or making my own. Using the recipe builder the same way. Eating food I like. Hitting calorie goal every day. No cheating, no forgetting, no giving up.
I have never paid any particular attention to sugar, processed carbs (what's that), fiber, water, (I don't drink alcohol), I don't exercise except walking every day.
Well evidently this thread didn't and up being about me. Please whatever you do, pay attention to sugar. Studies have shown it's similar to a cocaine addiction. It wrecks havoc on your metabolism and can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes. It breaks down the collagen in your skin, leading to early aging. Sugar is one of the most horrible "natural" substances there are. It's in everything. You have to read every label.
Processed carbs are carbs that are no longer in their true form and have been changed in a factory somewhere. Boxed rice, boxed mash potatoes, most breads. Cake. Cookies. Have a real potato, real rice.
Also as a female, add strength training. This and weights or machines or your own body weight. This will rev up your resting metabolic rate so you burn more cals. It will give you a tighter look. It will help prevent osteoporosis. You won't look like a body builder, you will look leaner.
Ok well I now know you do not care for actual advice, but I will give mine anyways
So I am down 56 lbs as of today. I started July 2 and was 258.9 at 5'3". Do that math and you will see I was well within the obesity range. The ONLY thing I have done to lose this weight has been to count calories. I eat sugar EVERY day, I eat bacon and eggs MOST mornings. If I want a cookie, I fit one in my calories goal for the day. The only thing that has made a huge difference is my food scale. I weigh everything before I eat it. This helps me be as accurate as possible. As someone above stated...you are not exempt from science. If you were properly tracking calories before, you would have seen weight loss. Again... You are not except from that!!! You stated you had some medical issues that caused you not to be able to exercise. Well the only way the weight piled on was due to too many calories. If that exercise you were doing before that was creating a deficit, well then yes, once you stopped it you should have then created a deficit within your food intake.
At this point it is obvious that you only want to hear certain advice. All I can say is ask yourself, is what you are doing working??? If the answer is no, how about being more open minded and listens to the advice from people who have figured it out and have had success.12 -
Ah yes, got to love the "experts" on here, who have absolutely no success, telling those who are successful how things work.
OP, if you consider answering a simple question on whether you weigh food or not as sinking so low, I'm led to believe that you do not. Clear defense mechanism.
You have two choices: listen to the advice given and see success, or don't and stay where you are. The only one you are hurting is yourself. In a few days, the rest of us will forget that this thread even existed. Yet you will be left with old ways that do not work. If you're happy with that, which I'm doubting or you wouldn't be posting, then fine. But you have to sleep in the bed you make.19 -

Yes! This helps! Thank you for being one of the few who gave me a straight answer!

Apparently it was insulting to ask - OP is a health professional with 20 years experience who knows it all. (Except why the weight isn't dropping off, obviously...)
OP, stop being so full of yourself and use a damn food scale to see how much you're really eating. All you need is a calorie deficit, not a bunch of BS about sugar, carbs etc., and not drugs.
Less calories IN than OUT is science - you know, that thing you seem to be fond of but don't want to actually hear in this context.
Good luck.22 -

OP, If you know everything there is to know about weightloss, why isn't it working for you? Let me guess, you're a special snowflake and the laws of science do not apply to you?
Why come here for advice if you don't want to hear it?
Take your rude self to the store, buy a food scale, log your food...or don't. It's no skin off my teeth. However, when you realize your way is not working, come back to the forums and take the advice given.16 -
Just quoting myself from early on page one. Where I was all sciency and posted that super sciency flowchart on a forum that is clueless about science. Yay human physiology.VintageFeline wrote: »What do you think the drug is going to do exactly that supposedly accurately calorie counting hasn't? Because it's basically just an appetite suppressant.
If you're not losing weight and have been tested for everything that may affect the CO aspect of CICO and nothing has been found then you're eating too much. That's usually down to inaccurate logging. I know this is n't what you want to hear but it's just science.

just want to add my 2 cents. in nov of 2003 I was overweight and broke my leg in 2 places walking my dogs,I couldnt exercise because I had a rod and pins put in and had to use a walker to basically learn how to walk again(orthopedic surgeon said the walker would be better than the crutches),I lost over 25lbs without trying due to eating less, once I was back up and mobile,I started eating more and boom started gaining weight slowly over the years. flash forward to 2012,I started working out and trying to eat better,I lost weight but then a year later started gaining it back,I was using measuring cups and not weighing my food. I thought I was eating a serving size, when in fact I was eating more.I worked harder and the weight would not budge.
so I came to MFP,someone told me to get a scale and weigh all my foods,I did and the weight started coming back off again,. I learned this year that I have a metabolic disorder, while its harder for me to lose the weight,I still lost it counting my calories.I just had to recalculate my calorie intake through trial and error. point is I thought I knew a lot about calories, and I was one who thought if you eat healthy and eat stuff in moderation the weight would come off if I exercised, I found that to be false, even with exercise I was not in a caloric deficit.I maintained my weight for a few years before 2012.weighing everything was a real eye opener to me.If you dont weigh your food you have NO idea how much you are eating,.exercise is also not needed for weight loss, its done for health benefits and while you can create a bigger deficit with it,weight loss comes down to eating less than your body burns,14 -

Hunger and nausea are side effects, as to which I've experienced none, making me think my batch or rx is even valid. The reason I'm taking it is that it allows your body to process sugars and fats more efficiently, clearly what my body is not doing now. I was given a sample kit from my doctor and I'm thinking since I'm the only one out there with apparent metabolic efficiency issues that hasn't had any side effects, I may have been given a bad dose. I'm really only interested in the comments re-Saxenda. Thank you.[/quote]
I'm a Nurse Practitioner and prescribe medications. Everyone doesn't get every side effect. In fact the vast majority of people don't get side effects. Someone upthread asked if you had contacted the manufacturer. If you believe your meds are faulty I'd do that.

If weight loss drugs worked without counting calories then no one would be obese. Just sayin....7

Contact the manufacturer because you don't have any side effects? That will go over well.4 -
I have been using a sample of Saxenda given to me by my doctor to tryout. I have been on it for 5 days and have lost 5 pounds so far. I have 40lbs left that I have to lose. I take it at night before bed. It actually makes me sleep great. I haven’t had any side effects yet, except that it makes me tired, which is great. I do 45min.-1 hour of exercise at least 4 days a week and have been eating very little. I’m not hungry. I just make sure though to have breakfast lunch and dinner and stay below 1400 calories a day.
I do think with any weight loss medication you still have to do the work. You can’t just sit around doing the same thing you were before. The medication is prescribed as a tool to help with the process. I believe Saxenda is helping me.
I have an under active thyroid so it’s very hard to get results even on thyroid medication. I have to really watch it and make sure I’m active and eating right. The 5lbs lost so far is a great motivation to keep at it until I am back to a healthy weight.
