Good afternoon Ladies,
Not a good weigh in for me this morning, but I didn't sweat it. That's new for me. I knew there was NO WAY I had gained 2 lbs since Wednesday. I did not eat 7000 extra calories. It has to be water and it will go away again. That's progress for me ladies. My first thought wasn't I have to cut back my food, it was meh, it's water, it will be fine. I have had a major headache for 2 days so that isn't helping. It is TTOM (sorry if that's TMI) so that is contributing as well. On a positive note, I did have an exceptional walk yesterday, got my 5.5 miles in 10 minutes faster than normal! It took me 56 minutes instead of an hour and 6 minutes. I took some drugs yesterday morning and waited on them to kick in and got my walk in and the grocery shopping done. By the time I got home, it was throbbing again. Took more drugs and went to bed early. Unfortunately, I woke up with it again this morning! Grrrr! It will get better soon, it could be worse, it's just a headache and not a migraine. Yeah for that!
Hugs to those that need them, kudos to those that are celebrating and welcome to all the new ladies!

Well the nor'easter is here! DD has off from college today which is saying alot for upstate NY. I got to work okay but the ice, sleet and wind came in fast, the school district called for an early dismissal. I felt too nervous to drive home since the roads were already treacherous so I left my car in the parking lot and walked a short bit to hop a train! Happy with that decision. DH picked me up at the station and I came home to make a delicious chicken soup with chinese noodles to warm me up. Delightful. Taking the rest of the afternoon to relax and get myself in gear for concert this Sunday. Trees are down all over our neighborhood, so don't know if we'll be losing power. Any one in the path of this one, be careful and stay safe: it looks to be a doozy.

Lanette, I think this is what its called
Laparoscopic Choledochoduodenostomy. Now that's a mouthful! I know it also called a bypass. Being that they are rerouting the bile duct. Thank you for your kind thoughts!

My Father was a musician and would have loved those paintings. In fact I love them but have no place to put them in my RV.

Rita, when we had and RV, we used those Velcro taps for pictures. We just had them matted, but not in a frame or glass.

I know, right! What I do is work out in my husband's discarded boxer shorts (he got a bunch where he hated the waistband) - more comfortable than shorts but hide that belly! lol4 -

Becca - I think that must be one of the longest words in the dictionary! That and antidisestablishment... whatever, lol.
We are back from the doc's. Yes, DH has blockages for sure in one of his legs, carotid, beginning COPD and Emphysema. Doc spent most of the time "suggesting" he stop smoking for good. Forever. Even the three cigs a day he's now smoking are three too many and will potentially harm any stents put in.
So, hopefully he'll go back in six months, or earlier if he quits, and get the MRA (angiogram). The doc kept telling him the decision was his, it's a free country if he chooses to do nothing at all. Sigh.
At least his anxiety is abated for now, as there's no emergency such as a heart attack requiring immediate action.

Welcome Claudine, have you had your hormones tested?. There's lots of natural herbal things you can include in your diet to help balance out the cray cray. I take things like Dong Quai, and rosemary and dill seed oil, evening primrose oil and Go Meno Free which has a combo of all the Women Herbs like red clover etc. But every now and then I do lose my shirt, Lol (Always for a good reason but perhaps a bit OTT at least in my DH opinion) Wendy5

Becca, WOW, that is some surgery name! It would probably take me longer to figure out how to say than it will take the surgeon to actually do the procedure! Keeping you and hubby in my thoughts, hoping for a successful surgery and quick recovery.
Lanette, it's hard to try and convince others that they need to do things for their own health, and to let go of it when they won't listen. I quit smoking almost 30 years ago, really hoped hubby would do so then too. He didn't. He did quit off and on several times, and then almost 4 years ago had a heart attack. He hasn't had a cigarette since! I'm very proud of him, but that's what it took. Hopefully your hubby's diagnosis of COPD will do the trick... Isn't it annoying that they wait until something serious happens??
Heather, I was watching the news on Wednesday, saw the snow that parts of England got and all I can say is "Oh my!" Glad that you got your travelling done before it all hit.
Sharon, how wonderful that Jheri is having such positive reactions to her art! Sorry to hear that you aren't eligible for the STD, this must mean that something better is getting ready for you! (hmmm, that does look odd-the STD that is, never really thought of it any way but short term disability! lol)
Kelly, glad to hear your knee is happier, but hubby is right, don't go getting crazy there! lol
I exercise with clothes on and in a room with no mirror!! Walking into the bathroom with its wall of mirror is sometimes frightening tho... But I'm working on it!!
Welcome to the newbies! This is a great group, lots of support!
Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those with positive news! Must go do some work now... Hope everyone has a great day!

Pam from FL, Claudine from GA & Katie: Welcome!
Cheri: I'm so excited for your home purchase. It makes me happy for you because you seem happy in your new hometown. I hope the purchase and move go well. :flowerforyou:
Becca: I went to your link and started to watch but didn't understand what I was seeing. I needed to reread your words, "they are rerouting the bile duct." Now I understand what they will be working toward and it seems less confusing. I hope all goes exceedingly well for your DH.
Lanette: I hope your DH will choose to stop smoking, have the surgery, and live a happier life. (((HUGS)))
We were expecting our son to visit this weekend. We just got a call from him, and he is at his home and sick. We set up soup for tonight's supper because it is both yummy and easy. He is doing the same for himself on the other side of the country. I'm sad he won't be here this weekend but happy he's taking care of himself.

I weigh every day and by doing that, I see the patterns. I know there's a list of things which will make me retain water weight including:
TOM
Extra exercise
Heat
Sunburn
Flights
Salty food
Or sometimes a really low-salt day
Surgery ... or any trauma or injury
You're absolutely right ... there's no way you ate an extra 7000 calories, so it isn't a real weight gain. I have to keep reminding myself of that too.
If you've got a major headache and TOM, that's probably it. In a few days you'll be back to normal.
When we came back from our trip, I weighed myself on Monday and I was up 1 kg. I knew I had eaten more than usual on the trip, but I had also exercised a lot so chances are I didn't eat 1 kg's worth.
All week this week, I stuck to my calorie limit and steadily dropped a little at a time, and this morning, I'm down 1.5 kg. I suspect there's 1 kg of water weight gone, plus an extra 0.5 kg for sticking with my calorie limit.

Wendy, I have actually been looking into natural remedies for relief. I lost both parents to cancer, so those hormones the doctors want me on won't be part of my daily regimen! Losing my shirt is a regular occurrence for me! LOL! Thanks for the recommendations. I like the idea of a combo rather than taking bunches of vitamins/herbs.4 -
Jake's surgery (laminectomy) is scheduled for March 14. There have been some odd results in some of his blood tests so he's concerned that there might be a reason to cancel or postpone the surgery. He deals with fear and uncertainty by talking about all the things that might go wrong and I deal with it by staying in the moment and staying busy with whatever is in front of me. So we have been a bit at odds with each other off and on. Mostly it is good and he knows that I'm here for him now and will be here for him whatever happens.
Lanette, Jake was a daily smoker dating back to his teens. He tried to quit dozens of time and always went back to it. Then in 2004, the cardiologist said something to him that made sense and he put down his cigarettes and hasn't smoked since. He was horrible and grouchy and a pain to live with for a few months but we got through it.
Cheri, your new house is beautiful.
Katla, I'm sorry your son won't be visiting you. I know how much you looked forward to it.

Its confusing t me too. What I gather, is that the doctors are tying off his bile duct that keeps clogging. Then with the duct from his liver they're main lining it into his intestines somewhere. The fact that they have to open him up is the major part. Also cutting some of the abdomen muscles is tough, rehab wise.
So I stretch, and exercise in bra and panties. I'm sure in the summer I will be sans that. *Mentally sticking out my hand* " hello, I'm a nudist, nice ta meet cha "! And yes I have said that to people before. Haha!
Wow 88 oz of liquid today. Glub glub..

Did the Muffin Top Meltdown DVD along with the abs and butt sections of the Shape DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Fit in 10 Total DVD and Gentle Class Yoga DVD
Mary - I remember going out into MIL and FIL's backyard and picking the oranges off the tree, bringing them inside to squeeze, and then having the fresh orange juice for breakfast. You reminded me of those times. So glad you're enjoying retirement so much
M - happy early birthday
Kylia - every so often (like every few years), I get a real craving for a soda, usually a Mountain Dew. That's when I go to the convenience store (yes, I pay more) and get the smallest bottle I can get. Actually, now that I think of it, I haven't had one of those cravings since we've been in NC and we've been here 10 years. I'm a big water drinker -- tea in winter. I'm not a coffee drinker. That's wonderful that you got that certificate! One time we went to a restaurant and Jess just thought that her tomato mac & cheese had too much tomato. They gave her a $25 certificate to come back! I thought that was really nice. She did decline it at first, but they insisted she take it. Hey, everyone has their own tastes
KJ - I have most of the tips already. I took a cake decorating class like 30 years ago. So I have most of the necessary items. What I'm looking for is that perhaps she'll give me some good tips. Good news about your knee
The Biltmore was nice today. I bought a Christmas ornament (it was 1/2 price) and some chocolates for Vince. Had a black bean burger for lunch. Unfortunately, I got it on whole wheat, I should have asked for no bread. Instead of the sweet potato salad I had seasonal vegetables. Only water to drink. Bought gas and then drove there. Boy, is it windy!
One of the dogs that the gal we play mahjonng at's house on Mondays passed away yesterday. I'm thinking that I'll get a "on the loss of your pet" card for her
Welcome to anyone I may have missed
Pam - what brings you to SC? What part of FL are you in?
Katie - welcome!
Cheri - sounds good about the house! Here's sending good thoughts for that to keep up.
NYKaren - Vince was telling me that Jess (VA) is home from work, Denise's (PA) school closed early since they didn't have power.
Lanette - sure hope your dh makes the right decision and quits smoking. It's hard, but dying isn't easy either, especially dying sick
Claudine - welcome!
Vince and I made a lighthouse welcome sign for Denise and Pete.

Barbie
Barbie, thank you so much for your comments about Jake - they mean a lot. He sounds so much like my DH with the anxiety and you are so right - let them worry and while we keep busy, go on with what we need to do for ourselves.
Cancer doesn't run in DH's family like it does in some families. In the past couple years, his younger brother had a heart attack, quit smoking, and recently had a pacemaker put in. His father had a bypass(es). I don't think DH (nor I) had any concept of the other illnesses smoking causes like the PAD, COPD and others that slowly diminish quality of life and from what I read, COPD isn't treatable -- symptoms can be addressed, but that lung tissue cannot be regenerated. I wish the non-smoker ads would talk about that as well as lung and oral cancers.
I don't nag him or preach. Sometimes he wants to talk about things and I listen to him and support him as much as possible. I'm also aware some of his physical problems are due to the RA which is systemic and affects body parts and organs other than joints.
That's another reason this group means so much to me. Just reading about you all and how you handle these issues when they come up is reassuring.
Thank you all for your comments and support. Very much appreciated.
Becca - for a second I thought that mountain photo was a view of Mt. Baker from Whidbey Island!!!
Katla - sorry your son won't make it to see you - hopefully he can reschedule soon. Any more news on your DD's possible move closer?
