My sisters latest art projects! Painting on old sheet music! Brilliant huh! She is my eldest sister, not the strange middle sister that has disconnected from us.

My Father was a musician and would have loved those paintings. In fact I love them but have no place to put them in my RV.
Rita in Columbus New Mexico
Rita, when we had and RV, we used those Velcro taps for pictures. We just had them matted, but not in a frame or glass.

I really don’t have any wall space. Just cabinet doors. Thanks tho.

Janetr - They eventually got a relief train to them at 6 am. Ghastly!
I've just joined an online organisation called Club Soda. It's a UK org for Moderate Drinking. You can decide for yourself what moderate means to you, including abstinence. I am what they call Sober Curious, but I'm trying for now to only drink a couple of units maybe twice a week. Tonight will be my third AF night in a row. They have lots of great suggestions for AF drinks etc, venues, groups and festivals. Food (or drink) for thought. I'm now reading a book called Alcohol Explained .
I couldn't get out for my run in the melting slush, but I did 150 bonus calories on the recumbent bike while I watched Masterchef.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx where it's now raining.9 -

Claudine, I think you're wise to refuse chemical substitutes for things your body can make naturally if you give it the right fuel. The best book I've read on hormones, (and I've read a lot!) is Bio-Young by Roxy Dillon. I also believe diet is a big factor in preventing cancer. No doubt you are super vigilent on that issue with your family history.
Well Sisters, I have some good news to report. This week I have been doing lots of things right. Yesterday I actually went the entire day with No Chocolate, even turning down my favourite chocolate icecream offered to me in a dish by my lovely daughter. Now, I know I do not have the strongest will power when it comes to chocolate, so all I can say is I think following Ernestine Shepherd's diet is stabalizing my blood sugar so that I am able to resist cravings.
There are five more things I am doing right. 1. Eating the same food every day, following Ernie's eating plan fairly closely. 2.Not having any alcohol. 3. Not having any caffeine. 4. Daily run and 3 x a week weights
5.Planning and cooking food ahead of time so no excuse to bomb out. I even noticed more energy when I am doing my running. Ernie's diet has quite a lot of protein in it. But small amounts spaced throughout the day so the body can utilize it. (tuna and egg whites is what I'm eating) enough carbs (oatmeal, brown rice and sweet potatoes) to fuel the endurance exercise I do, running and beekeeping and horses with a little fruit and nuts and a helping of green veggies at each meal. I feel it is very healthy and easy to follow and not too expensive and quick to make. Plus Ernie at 80 years old is living proof that it is a diet geared to vitality and longevity.
Today, I "ran the bridges" which is a pretty loop around the river that runs through our town. One side is all park with big old trees and Jock ran loose, but the other side is a board walk and then a paved path too close to the road so he had to be on a leash there. It took me 55 minutes to run and I added another block loop to make it an hour. Then I carried the new exercycle upstairs to my Movie Room. That was a good workout! LOL Then I tried out the hula hoop and found out that I am not very good at it. LOL. Rye, thanks for telling us that you do improve with practice. I think I got some good exercise repeatedly picking the hula hoop up every time it fell down.LOL Then I went out and worked in the hives. It was very hot today and I am dehydrated and headachy now. Going to put a cup of Inca on (a substitute for coffee that I like a lot) and read for awhile. Wendy

Cheri: Gorgeous new home in a pretty neighborhood. I hope you are very happy there.
Barbie & Rori: Thanks for your sympathy regarding our son's visit. When we talked he said he expects to be out this way for work once he has recovered from the flu. We will probably get to see him in a few weeks. I will be pleased if we have suitable conditions so that I can wash the boat before he gets here. It is sooo dirty that I don't want him to see it this way. :noway:
Lanette: No news from our daughter about her possible move. Our son does expect to be out this way in "a while." I'm not sure exactly how long "a while" will turn out to be, but he has business to attend to at Fort Lewis, so it won't be too far into the future. He needs to get well, first.
Wendy: It sounds as though you're doing very well! Yay!!! :flowerforyou:
(((Joyce)))
Heather: Like you, I've never touched cigarettes but I lived with intense second hand smoke until I left home for college. I never lived with my parents again after that. Both of my parents died from smoking related illnesses. Dad had heart disease & mom smoked until her lungs couldn't exchange air. It was a horrible way to go.
Barbara the Southern Oregon Coastie: I've been wondering what AHMOD stands for. Our morning is beautiful so far. The forecast is for cloudy but dry today.
I may go out to the stable and spend a bit of time with Arrow today. I'll check with his owner to see if that is okay in a while. I'm thinking about lunging him rather than riding today. Tomorrow is my riding lesson. I look forward to it. Whatever I caught during my travels sure did take the starch out of me. I still have low energy levels and feel more than a bit wimpy--and this is a huge improvement over a couple of days ago.

Happy Saturday!
Mary ...thank you for the instructions! I've finally wised-up and copied them to a document on my computer which I will print out later today.
Sue ... so glad that you are ok! My son has choked twice in the last 3 years requiring emergency room treatment. (His have been brought on by sedative qualities of medications ... which we have since discontinued). Very, very scary and it has left him very leary about textures and sizes of food.
Rye ... you've inspired me to try my hula-hoop again
Joyce ... Happy, happy birthday!
We got hit with about 20 inches of snow overnight Thursday into Friday .... here's a look from my son's bedroom window ... for some reason his screen is still in the window. Huge overhang drifts! Even our schools closed Karen NY because there was so much snow to remove from parking lots. But by 1:00 in the afternoon, the roads were bare. The snow is wet and heavy causing a lot of tree damage.
Today we're off to look at another apartment for our son in the wheelchair. Then I hope to get some food preparation done for the upcoming week.... steel cut oats, granola, crustless quiches, etc.

March for me is all about marathon training. Running marathon number 5 in June, with goal of breaking 5 hours.
That involves sticking to my training plan, eating healthy (a lot of marathon runners I know, myself included, eat crappy, buying into the “I can eat what I want” myth. Not going there!), and making sure I get the rest I need.

Happy Saturday!!
AARRGHH.... I accessed this group on my tablet last night and found a number of posts that I hadn't seen on this laptop from the past COUPLE days. YIKES!! Sorry for the spotty comments coming up.
Wendy - where did you find Ernestine's diet? Sounds very doable and sounds similar to how I eat when I'm being good. I have a batch of cold brown rice in the fridge and will make a black bean/red & yellow pepper salad this morning. Maybe toss in a little sheep feta. Ernestine is an inspiration. And so are you! That pic of you and your daughter = supermodels! Bet you are relieved the honey is done.
Terry - hope that orthotic helps you. Hope the vet finds that whatever is ailing Collette isn't too bad. 17 is a long life! I agree, the cost of Vet visits seems higher than human doctor visits. I am concerned that our vet vaccinates too much and may switch to one that titres to see if vaccination is needed. I checked into pet insurance for our pup yesterday... looks like anywhere from $30 to $70 a month. I talked it over with DH and I think we'll just dedicate putting extra $$ into a bank account each month to cover things like that if they come up. We are insured to the max it seems already. Sheesh.
Cheri - darling house! Now is that the one you are moving out of or in to? I think I skipped some conversations. Ho boy.... How's your son settling in?
Rye - crossing fingers your DH can tinker with those counter tiles enough to get that new fridge to fit. Bet he'll come up with something that works.
Rori - welcome to your third day of retirement! Good luck finding that new exercise equipment on Craigslist! Your kitty looks so content there ;-). I can't remember, is he a cuddly lap cat who likes to be petted with motor running at full bore?
Lisa - "When everything is going right, stop arguing". Amen, sister. Thank you for sharing that. I admire the way your brain is able to work on several things at once, lol.... like the best computer in the world - you have a very efficient RAM. Glad you are getting $$ back on taxes!! I plan to make time this weekend to watch Jessamy's talk.
Kylia - your Friday full of potholes took me back to my working days. Whew! Glad you got some sunshine anyhow . Thanks for the reminder about local honey - I have a jar in my pantry I bought from a local beekeeper several years ago I'll bring out. Love a dab of it mixed in a mug of warm water with Apple Cider Vinegar. Allergy season will soon be here- tho at my house it seems it's always allergy season, lol.
Speaking of allergies, I go for the skin prick allergy tests this coming Thursday. Will go early and get my Trader Joe's stop done. We drove by it yesterday when DH went to the doc but he was in no mood for me to run in there and pick up the bread I like. Besides, who can do Trader Joe's shopping in just 2 minutes? 2 minutes is certainly not "fulfilling" lol, don't care what you're doing.
Been thinking more about DH's health, and plan to reread Dr. Sweet's books on slow medicine. The vascular doc made a comment to DH yesterday, something like "don't trip and fall when you get off the exam table, I'm not a bone doctor so can't fix a broken leg". DH is by no means feeble, and still has a strong steady walk - albeit not very far at a time. I know the doc was trying to be lighthearted.
But what stuck in my mind is that doc also isn't a rheumatologist. He's the mechanic who keeps sludge out of the fuel system. He doesn't do mufflers or brakes or struts or transmissions which might be more limiting to the useful life of the vehicle. A clean fuel pump won't repair the other aging parts.
He knows DH has some blockages and lung damage. He can't fix DH's painful hips that sometimes limit his walking and the odd joint flare. And the pain he gets from time to time from his broken back.
OK, enough rambling. For now, slow medicine. Making beef stew for supper, DH will help "needle" the stew meat. Like with kids, he's more apt to eat something if he got to help make it. Getting him to eat a fruit and veggie each day would be good!
I'm getting ready to take glass jars to the recycle down the road. Dumpsters where I can toss in sauerkraut jars and a few wine bottles to my heart's content.
Have a good weekend!
Lanette

Margaret: Your paintings are wonderful and I especially like the pair with the cardinal and snowman.
Beth: The snow is impressive. Lovely photo. I hope the apartment search for your son is successful. Apartments around here are hard to find due to an unexpected number of people moving into the area. Handicapped accessible apartments are a challenge to find here, too. We've seen some wonderful proposals at our planning commission meetings, but so far nothing has been built. It makes some sense- planning happens in late summer, fall and winter. Building happens when the weather improves. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I drink quite a bit of sparkling water and put a drop or two of lime juice in it. I really like it. I avoid sparkling soda due to the swelling it causes me. Excess soda makes my joints ache. :grumble:

Heather, what a nightmare for those people stranded on the train! And for everybody else, really, sounds like your part of the world is even less equipped the handle the snow than my part of the world is! (and we are NOT equipped! lol) Club Soda does sound interesting, so glad your son is really embracing the change!
Beth, Holy c**p! that's a LOT of snow!! Sure glad I don't have to contend with those amounts! Good luck with the apartment hunt.
Margaret, the cardinal and snowman are beautiful!
Lanette, hope all goes well with hubby, sounds like you have a full plate.
Too many posts to respond individually! Welcome to newbies, hugs for those who need them, and kudos to those celebrating successes!
The wheels fell off my bus last night, not sure what my issues are, but I think I need to get something sorted out, and quickly, if I want to be successful at this. I stay up too late the night before and then am tired in the evening, so I don't make the best choices. Really need to get to bed earlier! Especially on work days....
Oh well, it will all get sorted out, for better or for worse!

I was flattered a few weeks ago when a couple of people approached me for advice on riding. A lady is planning on doing a triathlon in September and needed help on biking. She got a bike, haven’t seen it so don’t know what kinda bike she got, when I asked her, she wasn’t sure either. I thought for sure she gave me her contact info, but I couldn’t find it. She asked me for some training routes. I offered to go with her and today would have been a perfect day, but didn’t have her number. I have an old jacket that might fit her and a pair of Bike shorts. Nice to give advice that someone will use8

You need to set a bedtime for your self girlie! I mean it now! Heehee! What I have done these past weeks is prepare for bed at 7:30. I stretch and exercise till about 8pm. Then I read until 9pm. Then its lights out. Husband goes to bed at 9:30pm as well. We are quite the rowdy exciting couple eh? Husband gets up at 6-7 am depending on life.

I have been really mindful these days, about getting my drinking in. Drinking Crystal Light/water/coffee. I am happy to have bought some "endangered species" dark chocolate, and have my 3 squares a night! A serving is 1/2 the dang bar, which is kinda piggy, so I portioned the bar into 5 servings. Its just enough to keep my sweet cravings content.
I don't think I'll ever buy a head of lettuce again! Not with all the various salad bags out there! Its mixed, chopped loaded with different things. I open the dressing packet that the salads come with to use many times, and also to sauté things! I just put the packet in a glass and put it in the frig. The Asian salad kits are nice because there is more cabbage in them. Great to WOK with! Wreally! Also the kits come with crunchy stuff like, tortilla strips, walnuts, dried cranberries, or sunflower seeds. For a quick lunch it's a cup of the kit salad, some hearty rice, maybe a slice of cheese. I'm eating like a slim person! Woohoo!
Love everyone!
Have a great weekend!

Machka, you live dangerously. Sheltering in a bakery during a bike ride, I would feel entitled from my hard exercise and hungry and the smell too enticing.. I would fall, big time.
Lanette, I got Ernestine Shepherd's diet plan from her book "Determined, Dedicated and Disciplined to be fit" You can also find stuff on it if you google although the ones I have seen don't exactly match what is in her book. She has some talks on Youtube as well.
I rode my exercycle last night while watching The Good Place. And I am going to log my food and see what the calorie count is just for interest sake though I'm not a big believer in calorie counting. Wendy8 -
Howdy Ladies!
And just like that, the 2 lbs is gone again! It could have taken some fat friends with it, but that's OK.
I have noticed that when I order smaller sized pants, the rise is also getting shorter (same brand, same pants, just smaller size). As a result, I needed to go to the shop this morning to get some smaller roos (underwear) out of my tub of roos. While I was out there, I saw the blower and thought I should blow off the porches, so I had the hubs fire it up for me and blew out the shop, the garage and both porches. Then I thought, well, he's putting the new starter on the mower so I might as well blow all the leaves away from the fence line and then mulch them up with the mower. I did the blowing part and went to get on the mower, only to find out one of the spindle's broke so no mowing. So, I had him fire up the leaf mulcher (a different blower in reverse) and went about it that way. I made it about 4 hours and we ran out of fuel. Probably a good thing because my arms are toast!! The good news, no walk for me today, I closed the exercise and move rings by doing the mulching! Yeah for me.
Now off to get gas in my car and I'm thinking of celebrating all that yard work with some frozen yogurt .
Have a great afternoon!

Good evening everyone! Getting ready to head out to dinner with a friend, but wanted to stop by. This time the weather cooperated and I got to walk the driveway and get some sunshine. I listened to music and read your posts. Will reply later. Funny thing is it is such a great walking driveway that my fitbit thinks I was on an elliptical for 32 mins! So funny!

Took a pajama day, and it was glorious! This is the first Saturday I haven’t had to be somewhere since MLK weekend. I even wore my pjs for our 3 mile walk with my lightweight jacket over the tank top. It got hot, and I really wanted to remove the jacket but the top was obviously pjs; the bottoms just looked like striped yoga pants.
