Hello ladies I’m new to mfp and also to this type of contact with people. Over the next day or 2 I’ll read the comments from the last week.
Nice to be with you.13 -

Not a great day. Hopefully for a better one tomorrow.
Terry8 -
Did 45 minutes of the Fit in 10 DVD. I didn't realize that it was as long as it was or that there are two workouts. But that's OK. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Beach Pilates Based Abs Bun and Thigh DVD
Wendy - NO CHOCOLATE!!! Are you feeling OK????
Joyce - happy birthday
Katla - sorry your son can't make it. Hopefully, he will be able to at another time
Kylia - a meeting sounds good to me. Just let me know when. Have you ever been to the Biltmore?
Rori - Mars is beautiful. Rest up and then exercise more
Pauline - welcome!
Terry - hope Collette is fine. Don't you wish cats/dogs could be on our insurance???
Made chicken to have later in the week, registered for the cake decorating class, made the icing for the class (I'm not going to buy it -- too expensive and it really doesn't taste all that good so I'd be embarassed to give it to anyone), next have to make the cake to take with me. I THINK we had a mouse downstairs. At first Vince wouldn't believe me, he had every excuse in the book. Finally, we found some droppings so he put down one of those sticky traps yesterday. This morning Loki, Bonnie and Clyde were downstairs. Loki kept looking at the storage room door (where we put the trap). I'm going to hope that his hearing is real good, but there was no way I was going to find out. So I'm waiting (and waiting) for Vince to go downstairs to look because I need the cake mix. First he's walking around the house "ommm, ommm, I feel horrible", then he has to have lunch, now he has to go to the bathroom. Update: there wasn't anything down there
Saw online that Pete's mother DOES live in a 55+ community. I wonder how the neighbors are going to feel if there are younger people living there? Also, what about parking? How is it going to be when suddenly there are 2 more vehicles. Well...not my problem.
Margaret - lovely paintings!
Vix - welcome. Tell us more about yourself.

RunningMaven57 wrote: »March for me is all about marathon training. Running marathon number 5 in June, with goal of breaking 5 hours.
That involves sticking to my training plan, eating healthy (a lot of marathon runners I know, myself included, eat crappy, buying into the “I can eat what I want” myth. Not going there!), and making sure I get the rest I need.
Keeping it real in Minnesota!
Mary
All the best!!
I ran my first 10K in January and am sort of thinking I might try for a half marathon in September. But meanwhile, I do long distance cycling and March for me, is a series of long distance events.
And I too am trying to keep my diet under control this month. It is tempting to let myself go when I'm cycling a lot, but that rarely turns out well.

Welcome Claudine and Vix and others I probably missed in skimming 103 posts.
Claudine, I live in Northeast GA, Peach lives in the Atlanta area, and Grits lives down below the gnat line. What is your general area?
Joyce, I wish you lived closer, cause you know I would organize that house for you in good Peter Walsh fashion.
I’m making egg roll in a bowl for supper because the idea of it sounded so yummy, but it smells horrendous. I don’t know if I can eat it.

wildhorsewendy wrote: »Machka, you live dangerously. Sheltering in a bakery during a bike ride, I would feel entitled from my hard exercise and hungry and the smell too enticing.. I would fall, big time.
Lanette, I got Ernestine Shepherd's diet plan from her book "Determined, Dedicated and Disciplined to be fit" You can also find stuff on it if you google although the ones I have seen don't exactly match what is in her book. She has some talks on Youtube as well.
I rode my exercycle last night while watching The Good Place. And I am going to log my food and see what the calorie count is just for interest sake though I'm not a big believer in calorie counting. Wendy
It wasn't an overly well stocked bakery. Bakeries here vary from being just very small cafes to bigger things with display cabinets full of baked goods. This was a very small cafe. It was also right near closing time ... they had a 3:30 close.
They had a few meat pies left, but none that appealed to me. So we went with toasted sandwiches ... mine was cheese and tomato. And we looked over the 4 choices of baked goods left and opted for a small red velvet cupcake each. I would have liked to go with the huge carrot cake and cream cheese muffin, but I know carrot cake is very high in calories, so ... nope.
For me, calorie counting is very eye opening ... especially once I started weighing my food. Get yourself a food scale from Woollies or wherever.
Nuts were a big surprise. Everyone tells you to eat nuts because they are healthy. Yes, probably. But they are also very high in calories. I found this pages which shows what 100 calories of various nuts looks like:
https://www.thekitchn.com/a-visual-guide-to-100-calories-of-nuts-snack-tips-from-the-kitchn-201778
Before I started with MFP, I had been eating somewhere between 400 and 500 calories of nuts each day!!
And cereal. The serving size on many packages is 45 grams. Without weighing I thought I was pouring myself a serving of cereal. When I weighed out 45 grams of cereal, I discovered it is a dusting on the bottom of the bowl. What I was pouring myself was about 5 servings of cereal.

Cheri[/b] - darling house! Now is that the one you are moving out of or in to? I think I skipped some conversations. Ho boy.... How's your son settling in?
Have a good weekend!

That is a pic of the house we plan on turning into our Home Sweet Texas Home. We close in March. Spent the day navigating through the inspection report. Nothing major. Thankfully.
Our son is in Chicago. Very happy with his apt. His goods arrived and he says he is unpacked. We will be seeing him in 2 weeks as we are driving his car up for him over the hub's Spring Break. I'll "finish" unpacking for him!
Thanks for asking!

Joyce - Happy Birthday! Have a fantastic time celebrating!
Lanette & Beth- I hope the instructions were clear enough if not let me know!
Michele - it sounds like you had a great experience growing up with the orange tree!
Margaret - Beautiful painting! In a couple months there will be to Mary's from Minnesota! We'll all have to get together!
Mary from Arizona7 -
Well, the egg roll in a bowl tasted okay, but I won’t be making it again with ground beef. Maybe I’ll give it a try with shrimp.5

Cheri - it's an awesome house! Looks like a nice neighborhood and I know you'll be happy there for a long time! Glad nothing major popped up in the inspection. Did you say your son in Chicagoland was going to work for Ernst & Young? Bet you can't wait to see him ;-). And vicey versa!

Had a good and busy day. Really enjoying my workouts every morning. Never thought I'd hear that come out of my mouth.
We had a beautiful sunny day, cloudy and rain again tomorrow. I'll take that over Beth's snow though .
Love to you, my friends.

I enjoy reading all the stories here. It takes a good deal of time to read them all. This is a very large & chatty group!
I am going to watch my very first marathon in May. Two of my brothers and a nephew are running. Mom and I are the cheering section. That will be about as close as I will ever get to running. I still feel it is a beautiful miracle that I can walk & kinda swim. I hope to be able to get on a bike this summer. Its been 40 years. I will need to learn the basics of balance. Ill keep y'all posted
Keep up all the positive changes ladies, I enjoy celebrating with you all!

Kay, that made me laugh out loud. You have to let us know if you ate it. Update, just saw your review. Shrimp might be better, but then I love shrimp.

The newest one?

Dr. Katie Bug, you are right. Peter Walsh from TLCs Clean Sweep. Yep, that's the guy. He had a degree in phsychology and that is what he used in helping those people get rid of things.mi remember TLC had their crew take all the things in the room and put them under a tarp in the yard. AtLC would then have a much smaller tarp that the couple had put their things they would wanted to keep on. Oh, the gut wrenching decisions those people would have to make.
I have read things all day long so I am sure I don't remember what everyone wrote. I do appreciate the birthday wishes. Hmmmm, have I said this already? Maybe I did post today. It has made my day. I have had many phone calls today. We went to Red Lobster. We have two large basketball tournaments in town today, one high school them the Onio Valley Conference basketball tourney, so getting seated at Red lobster but Michelle's room mate got there real early and put in a reservation for us. So that was like a gift to me because he is such a sweet guy and it helped Charlie not be so frustrated and saying few choice words and not enjoying his meal. He normally does not find anything there he likes besides the cheddar biscuits but tonight he got shrimp and actuall enjoyed it. I got my usual baked cod, baked potato and cole slaw. I brought half the potato and cod home with me. They will be lunch tomorrow. Michelle did go to Schnucks before she got here and got me a single piece of chocolate cake. I should have only eaten a portion of that but I enjoyed every morsel and licked the frosting off the side.
Heather, I did not get the PM you sent. You know my iPad has this weird name for me so I even went to my lap top where I am my real name and it wasn't there either.
Well my fingers are freezing so I better hang up. Love you, have had a wonderful birthday, 68 is ok! Joyce, Indiana5 -
Jake has been extra needy today so I spent a fair amount of time riding my exercise bike and talking to him. I had planned two big housework projects and a big paperwork project but decided that just sitting with him was the most important thing I could do. My walking friend met me this morning for a long walk and she helped me sort through a few dilemmas that I had and, I, in turn, helped her with some stuff that was on her mind...and we burned a bunch of calories along the way.
I don't respond too much to what you all write about, but I remember it and sometimes use your experience to share with a friend to help her with a personal challenge that one of you has mastered. Thank you for all you add to my life.
I have been logging food and exercise on MFP since February 2009 with only occasional lapses of a day or two. It is a plan that works for me. I have found food that I like that has the necessary nutrition and I eat a lot of the same things over and over. Someone told me when I started that the best food plan was the one you stick to. Mine is different from what many of you do, but since it works for me, I stay with it. This thread is not about pushing a special food plan, it's about supporting each other along our personal journeys. If my plan weren't working, I'd be reading about what others are doing and trying their plans.

Hi Sisters, I have just come in from a long trail ride on my bestie Mani. I rode on a neighbour's hill country farm which is full of steep ups and downs, edge of cliffs, sheep tracks as well as water crossings. I got off and led him up the final hill, which took about 10 or 15 minutes of climbing and it was so hot I drank a full 14oz bottle of water as I climbed it. I did 30 minutes of weights work out this morning and I oiled saddle and bridle after the ride. Am just thinking about taking the dogs for a hill hike now. I think Major and Jock need a turn out.
Michelle, I know I know! No Chocolate is a HUGE change for me and guess what? I'm about to make it three days in a row without even a hot chocolate or a sugar free chocolate. NONE. Don't know how long I can be this strong but so far, so good! I came in famished from my trail ride and I chose to eat veggies: corn, beets and sweet potato. It was a very pretty plate of food! Golden yellow, purple-red and orange.
Katla, I am loving The Good Place. I am still watching season one and am finding the intellectual premise most fascinating. I like to try to guess what way the plot will turn every time the show ends in a dillema.
Machka, sounds like you tried to make good choices at the bakery. I love carrot cake but yep, it is fattening! I am very interested in the educational offer of upgrading your BA that Australia offers. Is it mostly distance extramural classes?

Our son started working for Deloitte Chicago after graduating from Indiana University. After 2 years there he needed a change. Coincidentally we had just moved down here to TX so he transferred to Deloitte Houston. He is a CPA. He spent a year and a half here and recently was recruited by a past mentor to Ernst & Young. He couldn't be happier. We are looking forward to having Chicago back on our vacation list.

Unfortunately, so far, none of it has been distance education. I'm in an IT program ... you'd think they'd be able to teach us online, but nope. It's all at the university.
However, other universities have distance programs and I keep thinking that maybe one day I'll transfer into one of them.
I'll send you some links when I get back from today's bicycle ride.

Becca - the chicken quilt you posted made me miss my chickens. Used to have about 26 hens and 2 roosters (Elvis and Rooster Cogburn). The roosters were raised together and got along great. Cogburn would perch on my forearm and eat out of my hand. The hens would jump on my lap or shoulder. Eventually Cogburn got so huge, he was too heavy for my arm. He got to be an enormous rooster with a huge red comb and amazing curved spurs. Elvis loved bananas. Every other kind of food, he would call the hens over to eat first, but he would grab a piece of banana out of my hand and run so the hens couldn't have it. They were hilarious.11

Elvis is on the left (a Barred Rock), Cogburn on the right (Rhode Island Red), when they were still young. Elvis grew to be pretty large, but Cogburn eventually grew to be fully half again as large as Elvis.

I had visitors today!
If you go on my FB page there is a video of them. The young bull has lots of ladies now! Like a harem!

Mary - I didn't grow up with the orange trees in my backyard. MIL and FIL lived in FL in what used to be an orange grove. So they had trees in their back yard and on the side of their house. whenever we'd go visit them, that's when we'd get the fresh oranges. And some people had grapefruits too
Laura - we ARE a chatty bunch. But that's also part of the beauty of this. We talk about everything (except religion and politics) because everything affects how we eat and sometimes even what we eat. I've found many times that other's give me a different perspective to looking at things
Wendy - Are you knowingly going without chocolate (like giving it up for Lent) or is it just happening and you realize at the end of the day that you haven't had any chocolate?
