The above post was done this morning. Ooops must not have hit post. Better late then never!
Today was one full of potholes....it started off well enough. Caught up with MFP friends, totaled invoices, packed breakfast and lunch, got ready for work. All good! Got to work and there wasn't a smooth event all day. SMH! Couldn't get aol mail to work for some paper my sister in law needed for a closing on a property, finally managed to get it through gmail. Then the closing took place at work since 4 of the people who had to sign were there. We will just leave it at lots of drama. Family selling to family. In between, waiting on customers, answering phones, trying to print statements while aol mail kept going in and out. I finally got to eat lunch at 2! Only 3 of the 20 invoices I totaled this morning even got called to pick up their equipment. The best part of the whole day was that the sun was shining! It didn't even matter that I had on 3 layers as it was cold, as long as the sun shone! Company came over after work. He and husband are still talking. I excused myself to get my steps in and grab something to eat. Not a bad day, just one filled with potholes.
Thank you for listening. Now to check on my notes

Pip, You get the boot if you don't give us proof. LOL
Claudine, I think you're wise to refuse chemical substitutes for things your body can make naturally if you give it the right fuel. The best book I've read on hormones, (and I've read a lot!) is Bio-Young by Roxy Dillon. I also believe diet is a big factor in preventing cancer. No doubt you are super vigilent on that issue with your family history.
Well Sisters, I have some good news to report. This week I have been doing lots of things right. Yesterday I actually went the entire day with No Chocolate, even turning down my favourite chocolate icecream offered to me in a dish by my lovely daughter. Now, I know I do not have the strongest will power when it comes to chocolate, so all I can say is I think following Ernestine Shepherd's diet is stabalizing my blood sugar so that I am able to resist cravings.
There are five more things I am doing right. 1. Eating the same food every day, following Ernie's eating plan fairly closely. 2.Not having any alcohol. 3. Not having any caffeine. 4. Daily run and 3 x a week weights
5.Planning and cooking food ahead of time so no excuse to bomb out. I even noticed more energy when I am doing my running. Ernie's diet has quite a lot of protein in it. But small amounts spaced throughout the day so the body can utilize it. (tuna and egg whites is what I'm eating) enough carbs (oatmeal, brown rice and sweet potatoes) to fuel the endurance exercise I do, running and beekeeping and horses with a little fruit and nuts and a helping of green veggies at each meal. I feel it is very healthy and easy to follow and not too expensive and quick to make. Plus Ernie at 80 years old is living proof that it is a diet geared to vitality and longevity.
Today, I "ran the bridges" which is a pretty loop around the river that runs through our town. One side is all park with big old trees and Jock ran loose, but the other side is a board walk and then a paved path too close to the road so he had to be on a leash there. It took me 55 minutes to run and I added another block loop to make it an hour. Then I carried the new exercycle upstairs to my Movie Room. That was a good workout! LOL Then I tried out the hula hoop and found out that I am not very good at it. LOL. Rye, thanks for telling us that you do improve with practice. I think I got some good exercise repeatedly picking the hula hoop up every time it fell down.LOL Then I went out and worked in the hives. It was very hot today and I am dehydrated and headachy now. Going to put a cup of Inca on (a substitute for coffee that I like a lot) and read for awhile. Wendy10 -
Joyce- Happy Birthday! I too love Red Lobster! We don't eat there often as my DH hates to wait anywhere, but it is among my favorites.
Pip- people are strange. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. A picnic table and trash cans....seem useful to me if moving into a new place. Glad someone was able to help you out.
Katla- so sorry your son isn't making it for a visit this weekend. I hope he is feeling better soon and can reschedule that visit.
Pam- Welcome. This is a chatty group but really supportive.
Lanette- I too first thought woo hoo like high five, and then thought no, more like Whoa, that is awful. Didn't thing of it as a bad thing. I will be avoiding that little button!
Katie- Welcome! Those sound like great goals!
Cheri- The house looks beautiful! And I understand about the sunshine.
Wendy- Looks like you had fun!
Rye- I am going to have to give the hula hoop another try. My mom told me the weighted ones were easier to keep up than the dollar store ones. Hoping the fridge goes in and the end caps come off smoothly.
Kate UK- LOL! Been there done that! Gravity is a hard mistress! I got a great laugh mainly because I think most women can relate at one time or another. Clothes are a great camoflage
Becca- Congratulations! I know you will have a bracelet full of pretties! Your lunch looked wonderful. I too had tuna. Started out with just tuna, tomato, black beans, and a little mayo, then husband told me to eat his salad (romaine and cheese) so mixed all together. Was really good but oh so much!
Okie- Well done on the positive self talk! The same thing happened to me this morning. Pretty sure mine was too much sodium. Frozen pizza most likely the culprit. But I thought the green beans and pears would counter that-hehe. I hope your headache is better in the morning. I rarely get headaches, but migraines suck.
Claudine- Welcome! I am on estrogen as my migraines and hot flashes were getting too bad. Started missing work (hard to do in family business). Read some great suggestions though. You are in good hands. Like the goals as well.
Grandmallie- They say laughter is the best medicine!
Suebdew- enjoy the time at the ranch. Any time I get to spend with my grands is a blessing.
Michele- The Biltmore sounds wonderful. My sister live in Six Mile, SC. Maybe we will just have to meet for a girls weekend when work calms down again. Sounds like you had a lovely day. I like the welcome sign.
Wendy- so glad you are doing well on the new diet. Bees too!?! Local honey has been a life saver for me. I use to get bronchitis 3 times a year. The doctor and I determined it was allergy based. I would be fine one day, then in the doctor's office the next. I read somewhere about local honey being helpful for allergies. We have several bee keepers in the area that sell at the local grocery. I have honey in my coffee (sounds weird, but tastes great) and then some more usually before bed in my tea. If I am feeling sniffly, I will take just a teaspoon or so plain. I have gotten kind of snobby with my honey now....I don't like most of the stuff that is at the big grocery. Thank you for taking care of the bees.
So...prayers to those in need, healing for those hurting, high fives to all the accomplishments!
Here's to a night of peaceful sleep and a day of wise choices.

Suebdew: So glad that you had a table of nurses so close by. Your story is terrifying to read. Can't imagine how it felt.
Katla: What a tough break about your DS getting ill instead of coming to visit you. (((hugs)))
Cheri: Beautiful house!
Lanette: COPD is a horrible, painful condition. I lost a good friend to it. He didn't smoke, but was frequently subjected to second-hand smoke from the time he was a kid. You be careful, too.
Kelly: I think your DH and others are right. Baby steps. I'm in major stiffness and pain today after walking 2 miles yesterday (4 mph) and doing 3 sets of squats with light weights. It's my own fault for having taken a sabbatical from the gym, then plunging right back in after two months off.
Office furniture was picked up today and I booked the fireplace company to come provide a quote next week. My cat is wondering where his favorite perch went. He frequently napped on a corner of my big desk in the afternoon when the sun was on that side. He took his job as a four-legged paperweight very seriously.

everyone in the paths of Mother Nature's fury, please stay safe!

Rori, your cat is a lovely paperweight!
Sue, so glad you were able to get help so quickly! Must have been a terrifying experience.
Cheri, the house looks lovely!
Kylie, my hubby hates to wait also. Can be a pain, but patience isn't my strong suit either so...... lol
Joyce, Happy Birthday!
Michele, the lighthouse welcome sign is lovely!
Wendy, glad you are having success with the eating plan. I may have to check it out, chocolate is definitely my weakness!
Heather, happy that your son is having success with the no drinking, alcohol can be such a challenge.
Lisa, sounds like your plans are coming together, congrats!
Kayla, too bad your son is unable to come and visit, although if he's sick, probably just as well that he keep his germs to himself!
Allie, so glad you had a day of laughter, you certainly deserve it!!
Didn't make it to the gym today, stayed up too late last night so just couldn't do it. Didn't get much walking done at work today either, it was quite busy in the office so didn't get many chances to get out of there. Oh well, tomorrow is another day! And on that note, must go for tonite, I'm tired.

Prudence's sweet dog Annabelle! The other day Prudence was yelling down the stairway for her. I came out and yelled for her, and Annabelle came dashing out of Prudence's apartment.. Haha! Poor thing was hiding..

Lanette, you are right. COPD is a very serious disease. As a nurse, when I think of some of my more critical patients, many of them had COPD. Then you say there is heart disease in his family. Recovering from heart attack or bypass surgery is so difficult with COPD. But he has to do it himself.
Unfortunately I have used my fingers more today and I feel it now. It int as bad as when I use them all the time but I sure can feel it. I didn't get any response from my doctors office today on increasing my medicine. Now I have to wait until Monday. But that also gives me two more days for possible relief. They say I can't know when normal feeling will come back t when the Lyrica will help. So maybe these two days might make a difference. Gods birthday present to me????
Thank you for your birthday wishes. I like hearing I am still in my 60s. I think I will feel old when I am 70. I don't know why. I think it's just something I have always felt. Maybe it's because both my parents died in their 70s.
My face book memories each day now has something to do with Mom in hospice. My DH says to turn that part off in face book. But I have very fond memories of our time in hospice. We knew what the final outcome would be so we never had that sudden 'oh, Mom died! Yes, it was a shock when the hospice doctor told us it was going to be 3 weeks instead of 3 months. But that got all our family together and we had some wonderful memories. Mom talked very upbeat to us. Plus we knew that Mom would finally get what she had wanted for 15 years. She would be reunited with her love of her life. And watching them together in their marriage you knew how much they loved each other. They physically loved each other with us. Dad was always having his arm around Mom. There were many kisses and hugs from behind. So they are together now. And I won't be sad as I see these memories every day. My sister Norma stayed every day and most nights in hospice. And the nurses were so wonderful, they truly made it a family experience and helped us celebrate her life.
I am so sorry to the few of you here that were not allowed to have the time at the end of your parents lives. Some things in life just aren't fair and hopefully our parents helped us throughout our lives how to deal with things that just aren't fair. Hugs to all of you.
I would love to have someone come in and organize my whole house. HGTV used to have a show about it. The organizer just knew how to talk to the person about dealing with a particular item that they thought was a piece of wonderful meaning when it was really a piece of junk or a meaningless piece of paper. At my house, it's all the paperwork I get from our health insurance. We get our monthly prescription receipts from Sam's and then we get the monthly EOB. That one can be aa bit surprising. But what do I do with all of them, and the. There is the WOW bill, DirectV bill, bank statements.
I have rambled enough. Oh, the Woo that we can click on will always mean 'good for you' in my thinking. That's why I don't click on it, don't want to click on it and insult anyone.
Joyce, Indiana6 -
Heather, I never got a PM from you. I got my laptop out since I am stil my old name there and it's not on that either. Sorry.0
-
Joyce - I've just sent you the link to your new name. Of course, they may have removed it by now as our offer is accepted. Usually, though they are a bit slow.
Up early, but I slept for 6 hours.
Snow is still thick on the ground. We got off lightly down here, but there has still been chaos everywhere. Some horrible situations for people. The train I often go on was stuck for 15 hours with no power at night. Awful lorry accidents and overnight jams on highways. Army called out.
I haven't been able to run, of course, but have been doing other things. I'm missing my running! DH will venture out in the car today to get some veggies, cheese and a newspaper. We haven't been out in the car since Tuesday. No post either! Supposed to be starting to thaw today.
Lanette - So sorry for your DH and for you. My father died from emphysema and my mother from COPD. My father's example put me off smoking for life and I never touched the ÷×+×÷ killer sticks, ever. He did me a favour. You will need to channel your inner nurse and psychologist and your inner Buddha. Look after yourself.
I'm loving the Unexpected Joy of Being Sober book. Some of her advice applies almost as much to food cravings and our society's obsession with pushing junk food on us. Wendy - I agree with you about cravings diminishing when you eat healthily. That's not to say the old reward cravings won't return when you are under stress, but the longer you can keep up the new habits, the stronger they will be. It's all about creating new pathways in the brain. I eat more or less as you describe and have done for 5 years now. I ADORE my food and it gives me great pleasure every day. I never feel deprived, but just know that I "don't eat" certain kinds of foods. I rarely want to any more, it just doesn't occur to me!!!
Last night was a broccoli, pea, salmon, prawn, onion, garlic, low far creme fraiche mix on 1 oz of tagliatelle. Absolute knockout! I was just eating up what was left in the fridge and freezer.

Saturday -- We decided to do a little bit of climbing (by bicycle) this weekend! I've kind of lost some of the little climbing skill I had so I figured I'd better focus on it a bit again. I was slow getting up there, but made it without walking and without too much stress. It's a start!
We had a warm climb at first (25C or so), and a lovely descent into Cygnet. Just as we got to Cygnet, it started to rain, so we headed for a small bakery and waited it out.
On the way back we had a little bit of rain, but nothing too serious. And the temperature dropped off to about 18C.

Machka, a retired secretary or administrative assistant would be perfect for the job or maybe a college student. I’d start asking around. You are so wise to take class. It can only make you a more valuable as an employee and keeps your mind young.
My main degree, so far, is a Bachelor of Education. I graduated in 2009 from a university in Canada. Australian universities have an option where students who have any Bachelor's degree can get a Master's in a different area. But we have to take a kind of bridging semester (4 courses) which gives us a Graduate Certificate in our new area.
So I started taking 1 course per semester in 2015, and acquired my Graduate Certificate in ICT in December 2016 ... graduate ceremony and all.
My next option was to go into a Graduate Diploma and then the Master's or directly into the Master's. Either way, it's 12 courses. I opted to go the Graduate Diploma route. In order to get the Graduate Diploma, I need 4 courses, and then I could choose to end it there, or continue on with the remaining 8 courses to get my Master's.
Currently, I have completed 3 of the 4 courses to get my Graduate Diploma and I have just started my 4th course.
So ... I'll have to make a decision soon whether I want to continue on with the Masters (probably) ... and I'll have to officially enrol in the Master's program.
And I am kind of liking the student idea for my office, but I'll have a look at some other options too. I wonder if there is a service around that employees retirees looking for casual work.

Rori, it's always good to see Mars, the leash-loving cat... sorry your knees are cranky. How's your first week of being retired going, other than that?
Sue, holy shamoley, seriously glad you're OK! Such good fortune to have medical help nearby.
Becca, my dear, I hope that the unpronounce-able surgery is very successful for Lee. Will be with you in thought.
Allie, dear heart, so glad you had a good day.
Sharon, glad you're finally off work, and hope all the disability challenges to the powers-that-be are very successful.
Cheri, seriously, it looks like a wonderful house, so glad you and the DH decided to buy in Texas. College Station is one of my favorite cities in Texas, too - I lived an hour down the road in Madisonville for two years while I was working on my master's degree at Texas A&M. A century ago, literally - it was 1998-1999. I was raised from the age of six to high school graduation only a hundred miles away, in Cushing. I'll always be a Texan. It's not just a state, it's a state of mind.
Joyce, Happy Birthday!
Heather, I'm so glad your son is taking his issues seriously, and really educating himself on it. Knowledge genuinely is power in this case.
I am sitting amidst piles of files, which I'll straighten out and get re-filed once the hubby is up and around and I can make more noise. Went through our taxes with my bookkeeper yesterday, who also happens to be my best friend of more than 30 years. For a change, the government owes us money instead of the other way around. Not exactly life-changing money, more like "going-out-to-dinner" money, but nonetheless, we've paid a lot in for years. Corey's four months off work for his shattered wrist last year did a lot to changing our tax bracket--worker's compensation isn't taxable.
Finishing up this morning updating my unpublished autobiography, for the moment titled, "When You Get to the End of the Road, Turn: A Memoir of Making it from Abuse to Abundance in America." The advice on what to do when you get to the end of the road is from my mother, and the title is way too long, but this is the fourth title, and probably not the last. Still tossing around my old business partner's adage: "When everything's going right, stop arguing!"
Still not going to publish it. Probably won't until the day I retire from work completely. It's scathingly honest, and I'd just as soon that some of the people who end up being main characters in my own story are dead before I do publish. I may not have it published until I'm dead myself. Something I learned from Jessamy's TedX talk, is that having written it is much more important than publishing it!
Off to finish up the current iteration, since the household probably won't start stirring for another couple hours - second cup of coffee first, though!
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC (for 40 more days...)

Morning Ladies~
work today until 1, and then who knows what.. just checking in...5 -
Greetings! Slept late. Oops! Apparently, I can't stay up until midnight and get up at 5. Paperwork will not be done before work. Such is life. The good thing is the grass isn't growing yet. Sunny is shining again!
I must say I didn't know it snowed in England. One of my childhood friends was from London. She always spoke of rain, but never snow. I learn so much from this site.
Allie-i work until 2. Then off with electrician to check on a rental property. Hope your day goes fast.
Lisa in NC- I have heard that writing is a wonderful healer. Sounds like it is going well. I like the title.
Ladies, stay safe wherever you are and know you are all thought of daily by lots of special people.
Kylia in Ohio7 -
Happy Saturday ladies,
Planning to have a quiet weekend. We didn’t get much in the way of snow yesterday. Heather please be careful as it sounds like you have had terrible conditions. The roads and sidewalks can get so slippery.
Took older cat Collette to the vet last week as I wanted her to have an overall checkup. She is 17 yo now and has some arthritis (don’t we all). Well the vet says she seems fine but they are sending out her blood work and we will hear next week if that shows anything. I’m also getting a urine sample today to bring in. I hope everything will be fine. Boy are vet visits expensive. I never get out of there for under $100. This time was $290! It’s all the tests.
Well that’s about it from me.
Take care ladies, Terry9 -
Happy Saturday!
Carol in GA3 -
Morning the winds were howling last night, our neighbors lost a tree but luckily it didn't fall on anything (including power lines or their car) We had a drama free night, my car safely tucked away at school. I will have to fetch it today.
Funny, my DH said to me last night "I want to buy a different house, let's move" I was gobsmacked! Hey we've only been in this house 5 years. Well instead of panicking and getting into an argument, I said, well let's figure out what our options are, what would we be looking for, etc. This seemed to take the wind out of his sails and he said, you're right, that's a lot to think about, I'll get back to you! Haha, I think the situation is diffused for now. He always seems to come up with something wacky whenever I am ramping up with my busiest time of year
I am excited and inspired by all you ladies making moves and I know that is in our future, but I am in a one step at a time, ducks in a row state of mind with lots of moving parts (not moving vans thank you very much)
Have a great Saturday everyone, stay safe out there. NYKAREN10 -
This is the end of the poem Ithaca by Cavafy that my DDIL quoted at the end of her TED talk. She welled up
Thought some of you might like it. My son got her a framed version for Christmas. This is a screenshot from Facebook.

Heather, were they ale to get the passengers off the train that was stuck for 15 hours? What a mess the weather has been world wide lately. Hopefully it melts away shortly.
