Hello!
I'll be 49 on Mother's Day. Can I tag along? Been dieting since 2nd week in Jan and lost about 8kg. Username "Mx6goatgirl".6 -
Decided to do 15 minutes on the Wii doing hula hoop. I figure I'll hold my plank while I'm waiting for the extremepump class to start. They always start late. Previously, what I was doing was an exercise I learned while in FL last year. You hold your plank and while in that position both feet slide out and then in (simultaneously). When we first did it I thought "oh, this is going to be a piece of cake. I hold my plank as it is for over 2 minutes". Well, in a year I have never been able to get above 50 seconds. I was trying to do it for a minute. So this year I may try hula hooping just for 15 minutes and holding my plank while waiting for the class.
The plan for tomorrow is to do the Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout DVD.
Kim - are you saying that it will take 4 days to get to the Caribbean? I ask since my daughter will be starting school in St. Kitts and I'm (poor me!) just going to HAVE to see her place down here. Isn't that a crying shame????? Hope your daughter is feeling better soon

I was going to make Jess and Denise these hooded scarves, but then Jess was accepted to the school in the Caribbean. Somehow I don't think she'll need a scarf....lol So I returned the yarn. However, last night I ordered this cat picture that's in the diamond dotz. Never done that so will try it for us. If it turns out decent, I may make a wolf picture for Jess. She likes wolves.
Sue - I'm the same way with exercising. I need someone to tell me "now do this, now do that". If I were to do it myself, I know that I don't work as hard or push myself. The exercise sessions seem to go on forever probably because I'm constantly looking at the clock. I, also, try to plan my menu for the following week. And, yes, sometimes it can change. Like last week I was going to have something for Fri (I forget what) but dh wanted fish since that was light so that dinner had to be changed.
M - congrats on the loss. Sure hope that was mosquitos that got to you and nothing more.
Rye - now what are you doing sitting at your computer posting to us when here are REAL things that need to be done like feeding Kidd Kirby before he starves to death????? lol

I find that for me it works if I just set out to do one thing a day, like one day vacuum, one day dust. If I can get just that one thing done, I'm happy.

Becca - that app did NOT make you look freaky! Just gorgeous! (Which you are already!) It's fun to play with - makes a person wonder what those Hollywood movie stars look like without an hour of intensive makeup, lol. Eeek! That's what I keep telling myself anyway.
Evie - what is TRX? Isn't it neat we're due for some warmer (albeit wet) weather in the PNW? How many days a week do you work at the storage facility? I always think of you now when DH watches "Storage Wars". I can't imagine what all folks put in those lockers.... it can't all be treasures.
Terry - hang in there. Not being able to walk much certainly dashed my good eating plans this past month. I bet when you are feeling better and the weather is more cooperative, you'll get your vavavoom back. I always enjoy hearing about the outings = shopping you and your DH do together. I almost have mine talked into going to Red Lobster this month for lunch! Thanks to Joyce for the idea!
Carol - neat photos of your grands at their baptism and your son & hubby. Did the grands get dunked or sprinkled? Your church looks so friendly and welcoming.
Michele - I too wonder about under 55 folks living in Pete's mom's community. Maybe there's a clause where young people can stay there temporarily like 6 months? Around here, the houses in the 55+ developments are teensy, the lots are teensy. Maybe sharing an intensive living situation, if that's what happens, will take the bloom off the rose for everyone, lol. Keep us posted!
KJ - Prayers for your friend. Wow, what a string of illness. My ENTJ brain wants to call Erin Brockovich and see if there's something environmental to hit the family with cancer like that. My problems seem minor compared to what many folks are going through, and I have gratitude today for sure.
Barbara AHMOD - I have my Aging Hippie days for sure... Mother of Dogs is every day. When I was working, the "kids" (in their 40's) used to ask me how it was at Woodstock. I was only there in spirit but I had plenty of tales to regale them with. I bet I watched the film a dozen times and wore out the soundtrack. Silly "kids" today think they invented fun! Hardly. Machka: A person should be safe from insects when sleeping in her own bed. I hope you are better already.
I'm being driven insane by the itchiness. Well, not quite that bad, but it really is annoying. The most bit area is on and under my right arm where my sleeve rubs when I have my arm down. I get quite large reactions to things like mosquito bites.

Machka, I feel for you. In the summer I live in Alaska in tundra country and when it is wet outside I used to wake up and be bitten all over my body and the walls would be covered with little red spiders filled with blood from my dogs and I. In 2010, I built a cabin on gravel and don't have the problem as often or as severe. Sounds like Alaska and Australia have some of the same issues.

Machka I’m crossing my finger on the spray helping, too. I’m a biting insect magnet - especially mosquitoes. My DH jokes that I’m the better than a bug bomb, if I’m around he just doesn’t get bitten - but I can get dozens in the same time/place. He swears by heat (heats up a spoon as hot as he can stand and puts it directly on the center of the bite). I swear by ice packs - the relief takes longer than hydrocortisone cream, but seems to cure the itch not just temporarily salve it for me. Hoping you have banished the source and get relief very soon!
Lanette how is your recovery going? I keep meaning but forgetting to ask. I was a pre-schooler at the time of Woodstock but I wow the young folk with my ‘saw the original Star Wars in the movie theater and even waited in line to get tickets’. Lol. But I remember the hippie decor and clothes- we had quite a bit of it in our household. My parents lived traditionally but were each quite hippie friendly in their own ways. We lived in Chicago, so my earliest live music was at the Old Town School of folk music where I saw Pete Segar, Kris Kristoferson, Carol. King, Judy Colins, Joni Mitchell, Steve Goodman, Arlo Guthrie etc. So politically, artistically and emotionally, I was raised by hippies but in a traditional family setting. We even had a VW bus!
Flower Power! I started remembering all sorts of things from the late 60’s and early 70’s including Peter Max (I had multicolored painted eyeglasses designed by him) and saw a picture in the web of a poster my mom had hanging in our family room. I’m segregating it behind spoilers -!it does have a political message.. Our family room was filled with posters and colors like this. A very cheery environment for the kiddos for sure! Mom kept the hippie themes to the family room and basement tho, the rest of the house could have been on a mid century American classic tour..
Michelle, I think Kidd Kirby is in complete agreement with you! He curled up on my chest and loudly meowed at me all the while I read your post! I didn’t know Wii had hula hoop stuff. We do have an old Wii packed away somewhere. I’d love to try planks, but I’m going to need someone to watch me so I can learn proper form. My disabilities mean I can’t remember what proper form is, but I can repeat and repeat until my muscles learn. If I can take the brain out of the picture (so it doesn’t need to think and try to direct the muscles) I can eventually learn physical things. For instance typing - it took 3 semesters repeating typing class but once my brain was more of an observer not director in the process I became an average to good typist. But for planks, I would need someone there to help me get into the proper position every time until I could ‘feel’ it.

As for me, same old hoop challenge, FMD this week etc. Oh, My husband did remove enough tile to get the fridge to fit. Unfortunately the countertop will not be recoverable in that area so we have to think of a new plan. Even though it is not the best place for it, I was thinking maybe we could find some butcher block material to install there to hide the damage. I’m pretty sure matching then1950’s era tile and laying it down where we have broken and smashed tile is not a DYI or affordable option.

February goals:
Lose 8 lbs. (I lost 9.2. Happy woman here.)
Walk 12,000 steps a day (My 28 day average was 12,700 -- several days I was over 17,000. Last Friday I hit 20,000. (I take a break on weekends))
Hit the gym at least three days a week. (Did OK with this. Better at the end of the month than at the beginning)
Replace junk food with fruit (did it. Made a huge difference in my calorie count. Almost killed the cravings for pop. -- almost, but not 100 percent.)
March goals
Lose 8 lbs.
Walk an average of 13,000 steps a day
Lift weights three times a week
Keep snacking on fruit rather than pop and candy
Drink 4 glasses of water a day8 -

Betty - Your dinner sounds delicious. Wish we could find broccolini here but I've never seen it in the stores. I loathe broccoli, but can deal with the milder flavor of broccolini.
Terry - I love your chainmaille jewelry. Do you have trouble with your fingers stiffening up if you work on it too long at a sitting?
Becca - So sorry your husband doesn't like cats. My pets are my children, and I can't imagine living without a cat and a dog in the house. Philip grumbles but he knew they were part of the package when he married me. If he asked me to choose between him and the animals, he wouldn't like the answer!
Karen - Congratulations to you and the children on a successful concert!
Barbara - Tumble is adorable!
Kelly - Your poor friend... I can only imagine the pain of such a loss. Sending thoughts of love and comfort to you all.
Okie - I've always found the time with our senior pets to be really special. Something about knowing time is short makes those last moments sweeter.
Matchka - Sympathies on the bites. There are few things as distracting as a powerful itch!
Rye - So sorry there wasn't an attractive solution to squeezing your fridge in! But most likely nobody else will look closely enough to notice it.

OK, first things first: I was BAD this weekend. Seriously, I need to recommit to maintaining my tracking over the weekend, because when I don't things really get out of hand. And that's all I need to say about that.
The weekend wasn't a total waste, though, because I did buckle down and get the taxes ready for the accountant. Made a deal with Philip that he could play computer games last night instead of getting me the final numbers for his business if he'd take the paperwork to the accountant in Austin Tuesday on his day off.
Friday I got a haircut and finally returned to unnatural color after a few months of my natural salt-and-pepper hair. We changed it up from the previous Crayola red this time. My stylist used a bright pinkish-purple stain ("orchid") which shows up great on all the white hairs. Have not washed it yet, but this color should gradually fade out. If that works, I can manage my own color instead of paying someone to do it! Thinking of going full-on "blue-haired old lady" for my 60th birthday in May.

M and Rye - if itching is a problem, the best thing I've found is to hold your blowdryer on the itch for as long as you can stand it. That will give you TEMPORARY relief. When I first heard of this, to be honest I thought "there's no way". But IT WORKS!!! We found out that the reason it works is because the heat breaks up the histamines. Give it a try, you'll be amazed. Now, it's only a temporary relief, but sometimes that's what you need to get to sleep or something.
Rye - I have the Wii Plus. I don't remember if the old Wii had it or not. Actually, the Wii Plus is pretty old. But I must say that I'm too cheap to buy the new Wii just for different games.
Exercised then (natch) stopped at the Salvation Army. Now I'm getting a bit pickey. Got some plates but only because they match our Correlleware set. Also got a pair of shorts because it was a different color -- more of a wine color, and a top for exercise (which was 1/2 off otherwise I don't know that I would have gotten it)
Yvonne - I had to send my daughter the info you posted about absynthe. She loves absynthe. When our cats get older, it seems they get more attached to me. For the longest time Lexi didn't lay by me, now when I'm watching TV she is always in my lap. I'll swear to this day that when we had to have Sadie put down, he looked at me as if to say "it's OK"

The turn out for Jheri's art show was phenomenal. Some paintings sold and she was asked to do some commission pieces. The paintings will be up to the end of April.
Greysyn is meeting with the mental health people. He has anxiety problems sometimes although I think he has been better lately. He always does better when he can get outside and as his Grandpa says "Get the stink blown Off"

Yvonne, I don’t have trouble with my fingers when I do chainmaile. However, if I do it for long periods of time it will make my shoulder ache a little. Been tracking y jump ring order and it looks like it may be delivered today. I am going to hold off doing anything as I really want to do a piece incorporating some vintage jewelry. Haven’t found just the right piece yet. So frustrating. Let’s see the new hair color.
Tax refunds came in today! YEAH! I can feel rich for at least a little while. Lol It is probably going towards a new stove and tiling my bathroom. That’s if DH and I can agree on a tile. Although I’d like to put something Mexicanish down, I’ll go with something neutral as we plan to sell in 3-5 years.

The scale was not kind this morning ... well, I was not kind to myself this weekend if truth be told. Just chucked the whole healthy eating thing and the scale simply reflected the result of that abuse. So back at it today.
I thought the apartment we looked at on Saturday was workable with some modifications, but my son's roommate is Eeyore personified ... his response to an updated apartment with two large master bedrooms and two large baths, a fireplace, private entrance and vaulted ceilings ... "I wasn't impressed." I'm sort of at a loss right now as to what both the roommate and my son think is going to work. I'd leave them figure it out on their own, but recognize that both are looking to my husband and I to fix this situation for them. Sigh.
In the meantime, I forgot to call my mom over the weekend and so received an email asking whether I had forgotten her ... which I guess I did! Obviously, I'm a horrible child. So will remedy that later today. When I call she will stay on script (as she always does) and ask who I am ...and then tell me she didn't recognize my voice it's been so long ... funny mom.

Please forgive if this is too much information. Last week I finally got my 16 lb Pom to eat real dog food for the first time ever. Evidently, after 5 days, the new food was too much for his system and I ended up having to clean up poop all over the dining room floor at 5 AM. When he goes, it's everywhere. Ugh!
