@pjakechris I did WW for years, on and off, and for the most part, always did their "core" plan, which has had several names since then. It sounds very much like what they are now calling Freestyle. It had a list of "power foods" that were zero points and you could "eat till satisfaction" without counting any points. Anything not on that list was counted. In some ways it was freeing, because you knew things you could eat and not worry about, but in others, it was limiting. I liked the ease of it but find I get much more variety on MFP. I think if I were to go back to WW, I'd do both, I'd definitely also count calories because even zero point foods, if eaten too much, can cause weight gain. I think I like the more finite calorie approach because it's a definite number to work with, not the fuzzy 'eat til satisfaction'. But I am a firm believer in doing whatever works best. All plans have you lose a lot the first couple of weeks. It's whatever plans works best for a person over the long haul. Choose whichever works best for you.5

Happy Tuesday.... I started weight lifting at the gym, so my goal is two times a week.6

Hey you guys, is it too late to be a part of this 100+ journey? It's quite daunting indeed. I'm in my 40s and am not doing a specific plan other than trying to stay within my limits on here. I've recently found some Youtube videos that show modified exercises such as squats which helps quite a bit.
Thanks in advance. Would love to be a part of such a supportive group.6 -

Hello everyone!! Has anyone had experience with WW versus MFP?0

Hello everyone!! Has anyone had experience with WW versus MFP?
I do believe that many of us had. There is even a private group and open threads about it. I have done both, but not the latest version of WW since I've been using MFP since 2014 non-stop.
The differences I find is:
MFP does not tell you what you should eat. It just records what you say you ate and spits back the nutritional value of that serving (read as portion, not actual serving size of the food as you would find on labels).
WW is a good place to start if you don't have any experience in eating healthy because it does recommend certain foods and places high points on the foods it thinks you should avoid and low points of foods it thinks you should be eating more of.
PS ...
MFP gives you a calorie goal based on what you stated you wanted to lose in a week ... and if you stay within that amount every day (for the most part), you will lose weight ... and it doesn't much matter if the food you ate was healthy or not, kept you satisfied for hours or 20 minutes ... you make the choices and reap the benefits or not.
WW makes you pay for a membership and has you attend group meetings ... and some people find they need that, some people need it so badly they attend a group meeting almost every day.
So ... you choose what you think will work best for you. If you then find it isn't working as you expected, you can always move on to an other platform.
PPS ...
MFP does not sell food. WW does.
MFP does have a market now, but I think it's mostly for sports apparel.
MFP has videos and blogs that you can look at anytime you want.
MFP has us.
Oh ... am I now sounding like I have a preference? Well, yes, I do.4 -

Hi, I see by your profile info that your first visit to MFP community pages (or MFP in general) was in 2014 ... that's about when I first found this thread and hopped on.
PS .. It would be great if you updated your profile with a photo or some image that we can associate with you ... those anonymous male/female profile shots that MFP provides when you haven't provided one leave me feeling bleh. ...
That said, you are certainly welcome to jump on this open thread in the Motivation and Support section of the community pages. If you have at least 100 pounds (~50 kilos, don't know how many stone ) to lose now or since you started your weight reduction program, you will fit right in.2 -
Still chugging along. Lost over 20 lbs since the start of the year. So 80 more to go. I’m already starting to think 60 more would be fine. Puts me in the “healthy” BMI just barely.
Been going to the gym and dropping my one year old off at the gym child care. It’s tough because she has really bad separation anxiety. Half the time they have had to call me in to get her because she won’t stop crying. Eventually she’ll get used to it, right?4 -

This morning My Progress Ticker ...
That was to reach 20% down from my high starting weight. Tomorrow is my 73rd Birthday and my gift to myself will be to set the new goal on the ticker. For today, I want that status to stay as is so I can savor looking at it every time I log on to record a meal.
The next goal in another 25 to go
PS ... I set old ticker to lose from where ever I was from the 20% mark when I joined a weight reporting challenge ... it was after a long stall that had me feeling like I was never going to get there. These weight reporting challenges keep me going!8 -

I met my first short term goal of 280 this week (yay!) and my calorie allotment has been recalculated (yay?). My next short term weight goal is 250. Another more immediate goal I'm setting for myself is to try and make up for the 110 less calories by moving more and earning them back daily! Now that the sky is not dropping heaps of snow I haven't been shoveling at all or out playing in it with the kids and have felt a bit of a slump lately. It's still hurts your face out there so it's not terribly fun to walk outside yet. Come on Spring!!!! I'm an avid gardener and that keeps me working a lot in spring. Still last least 5 weeks or so away from that, though. Ok, I'm rambling now, ha!
Tonight, we're heading back to my hometown of Chicago where my mom flew in from Oregon for a quick visit- can't wait to eat good pizza! Michigan is a land of mediocrity as far as pizza goes. (Probably a good thing at this point for my journey, lol!) Have a great weekend everyone!!6 -
@Jessec80 Congrats on your progress so far this year!! I'm so sorry you're dealing with some separation anxiety with your little one. Stress City! For the longest time my youngest would cry every single week we dropped him off at church nursery. He finally went willingly with little/no tears but it took like half a year! I never worried too much because I felt confident in the workers to love on him (even with the wailing, maybe especially because of it) and I knew what I was doing was worthwhile. He's 4 now and is a perfectly happy, hilarious, snuggly kiddo who has no separation issues at all. He was actually pretty upset to have to miss his little class of friends this week because of illness. Now, a lot of people have different theories about attachment and if it's damaging to ever let your kids cry. So, I can tell you my opinion and personal experience but others will be the complete opposite opinion and experience, so in the end you have to do what feels right to you. No matter what, you're a great Momma!2

Happy birthday one day early @Nikion901! And huge congrats on making your 20% goal! That is awesome!
Have a tea that I need to go to on Sunday with a woman's group I belong to. Nothing like eating sandwiches for lunch that I would rather not, not to mention the slew of desserts. Maybe I'll eat a little something before I leave so I won't do too badly there.
Have a great weekend everyone. And @kbeyer23, have a great trip back to Chicago. Enjoy the pizza. It's very different from the NYC pizza I grew up with. Now I live in Ohio, some pizza is good, some not so much. Now I just make my own.5 -
Ooops, math correction to my Spring Challenge. My Weight +/- this challenge should be +0.50, not 0.75. Every little bit counts, right? Please correct when you enter your stats.1

I completed the first week of the exercise plan created by the gym trainer. It was 4 days of weight machines and cardio. I did not complete all the ab machines or all the sets on the shoulder press, it was too painful as I went on. But, progress not perfection! I also logged everything I ate. The plan gave me 3 rest days, but I plan on going just to do cardio on one of those, to keep up the good work.5 -
@jessec80 Every Sunday. And he cried for awhile every time at dropoff (but eventually stopped after several minutes) so it wasn't like he was screaming for an hour. He was/is a stubborn kid, though- it took that long to sleep train him, too! Maybe your daughter will give in after awhile- just because it took Nolan that long doesn't mean it will take your little sweetie that long! I just meant to encourage you that if she's safe and you trust her caregivers, it's ok to make time for yourself even if she's upset. Because in the end, a healthy, happy mom is what's best for kids.4

She will eventually, but it won't be all the sudden. More like a three steps forward, two back. Separation anxiety is normal and at its peak at this stage. I found that getting my daughter interested in an activity took the edge off. Mine liked painting even though she was just scribbling on the paper with the brush.1 -

To all: thanks for the words of encouragement and hugs! Enjoyed everyone's posts. The ups and downs. Life. Once i am done with reading posts, i find it difficult to keep straight who wrote what. Extended hugs and likes at individual posts.
I scale is down for me this week. My nutritionist said I'm going to lose 30 lbs in 4 months. Web taljed about how I yo yo every time i approach 200. My slogan. "Just say no"
I wish all a great week. We have blue skies in new jersey!6 -
@DebCountsAll it’d be great if they could distract her better. It’s the YMCA, and they often have a lot of kiddos coming and going. She’s been spoiled with a stay at home parent so far
I made it under 240 lbs today! I have been eagerly expecting this as the weight loss was stagnant for about a week. Finally started coming of again!

As expected while I was on vacation I totally blew my diet and ate so many different bad foods I didn't even bother putting them into the food diary. I am surprised I only gained that much. I was surprised that my blood sugar didn't jump up. It surprisingly stayed around the same. I guess that means the meds I am taking could handle me taking in some sugar if I wanted to eat some. But I think I will keep staying away from carbs and continue to lose weight. Onderland is just around the corner, it is so close I can feel it.6 -
@kbeyer23 Great job on the weight loss and so sorry you have to deal with all that cold weather. I imagine you are used to it living in Michigan but I live here in Texas and was actually bummed that spring break was too cold to go swimming. I guess seeing your post put things in perspective for me. Don't worry before long I will be complaining that it is too hot.
@Jessec80 Wow great job on the weight loss! Sorry for the added stress of the little one being upset about daycare but keep going she will get better over time. Eventually she will love going and look forward to playing with other kids. I think it is great that you stay home with your kids. Most people don't realize how much work is involved, everyone just assumes you have all the time in the world.
@b_lisieux great idea about eating before you go that way you don't indulge on all the tasty unhealthy foods that will be there.
@moodybear2003 I read somewhere that it takes 6 weeks to form a habit so continue going to the gym even if you don't feel it that day. I haven't been able to make myself do it. So kudos to you!
@ladylaura777 I am so jealous of your control while on vacation. I decided to take a vacation from dieting also. It tasted great but now I feel like I am starting all over. I am just glad that I didn't gain too much. I mentally prepared myself for a 5 pound weight gain and was surprised that it was less than 2 pounds. I guess all that walking I did help offset the calories I took in.4 -
Yesterday i didn't really log, i ate like crap, and my stomach has been super upset all day. Now it's 5 am and I'm awake feeling like I'm going to get sick. That's what i get for going to the coffee shop twice!6

I hear you. Yesterday was a real crapper day. Up to early, going thru day on autopilot. But you know that tomorrow is a new day, and don't get on yourself for doing what your body's paying for now.
Remember why you're doing this journey and get back in that mindset.
