What nobody tells you about losing weight

I've noticed that since I've been losing weight by eating healthy and drinking no sodas my skin has become softer and better looking and even though I've only lost 19 pounds my fat belly feels smaller. I've also noticed how much quicker I'm able to get up to do things.19

that my tongue would look a little worse for wear from biting it so much when I hear people i know declare they are trying this new shake or fad diet.45

You might be more sensitive to caffeine.6

What I'm about to type could be a bit TMI, so if that's not your cup of tea, just skip this post...
Final chance...
The wedgies! Oh my god! My cheeks don't stop my underwear anymore, and it's turned into a constant struggle, lol.29 -

I found the opposite happened to me. I had to replace all my underwear for smaller and it is much more comfortable.5 -
That my pace when walking will get quicker and sometimes I'll feel like running instead of walking. Who would have thought??14

Oh me too! I have no idea what size or style to buy but regardless I am forever pulling out the inevitible wedgie!4 -
People will be oddly bold about asking what size you're wearing. Now that I've lost a significant amount, I have had a surprising amount of people comment and ask what size I am! Maybe it's just me, but I would NEVER ask someone, "you've got to be wearing an 8 or a 10 now, right?" Now it happens all the time.
I know they mean it as a compliment, but I'm old fashioned and think you should never ask a woman her size!20 -

I put my weight loss back on and am working to lose it (and more) again BUT when I've had this happen I don't answer but flip the question back saying; oh it fluctuates, what about you?14 -

I was always the one struggling when walking with my husband haha. Now I can keep up with him, but I have to slow down when holding my daughters hand lol.6 -

1. Being so happy to wake up in the morning because i'm making positive changes for ME
2. Anxious at work because I can't wait to go home and work out
On the flip side - watching people who had been bragging about their weight loss get passive aggressive to you when you finally start losing Not cool.23 -
Oh and one more - having a hard time making the 'mind change' of adjusting to your new size. I still go to the women's 2X section and I wear a medium on a bad day. I've even bought the bigger clothes and been a little confused at first when they didn't fit right. Getting better though!22

My wife is happier because I quit snoring. She told me once I was so quiet she checked to see if I was still breathing, lol.40

I want to get to that so I can go to bed with my husband again14 -
I am still shocked how uncomfortable it is to sit on un-padded chairs and also in the bathtub now that so much of my butt fat is gone. Before I always had built in cushioning. I always smile a little inside when this happens even though it really hurt.19

AWESOME thread! Thank You4

Even when you feel like you're in a rut, someone will notice/comment on your loss and it can remind you how far you've come
Also, having a hard time with this right now, you really can't lose weight then go back to old habits - and they creep up on you sometimes!20 -
One things that nobody tells you about loosing weight is that loosing weight doesn't make your general, life problems disappear. Yes, it does remove many problems, but just loosing weight doesn't magically mean you are gonna go from depressed to super happy, from anxious to super confident. You will still be you, your life will still be your life. Your regrets will still be there, your failures, your bad life choices, etc.
Yes, you will be healthier, you will look better, you will move easier, you will buy clothes more easily, etc. But you will still be you, in your life.
However, it does not mean that you should not bother to loose weight, on the contrary..I am writing this for all like me, who come close to their goal, get disappointed and then gain it all back.
We should loose weight and we should keep it off despite it's not one way ticket to heaven.26 -

This.
I believe losing the weight may make the real underlying problems even more profound. Nowhere to hide from them? I don't know.
I am reading this thread for ongoing inspiration. I have over 90 pounds left to lose (down almost 20 so far). I get to a certain size and mentally check out and blow up again. I do not know why. I have started therapy now in the hopes that as I continue to lose weight I'll be in a better place when I hit that tipping point.26 -
I'm losing weight AGAIN, but from previous experience:
-You will more than likely lose your boobs.
-It can give you the confidence to do something you NEVER would have before.
-No more being so embarrassed by what is in the grocery basket.
-People think that just because you lost weight you are stuck up now, and somehow your choices for yourself automatically are a negative comment about their own choices. (NO, I'm just making healthier choices, that means I'm not gonna order the burger, I'll get the salad instead. Get whatever you want, I'm not going to say anything and I'm not silently judging you!)14 -

I agree with all if this except the boobs - I would love for those to reduce. First place I put on and the last place it goes from.8 -

I'm with you on this one... my boobs have grown continuously (along with the rest of my weight, apart from some weight loss periods) since I was 13. I'm ready to be done now, at 26.

For me its a few things:
- Not deleting pictures of yourself when tagged on Facebook as you're unhappy how you look.
- Being less conscience of how people see you. You're confident enough to know you are looking at least okay!
- Having more confidence with woman. Basically until I'm happy I will barely talk except pleasantries.
- Being able to fit into clothes you haven't in years.
- Wearing clothes you bought years ago which you've never worn because you never got into them!
- More energy and a willing to help others who are overweight and suffering.
I'm not 100% where I want to be but I'm much happier than I was.

I can’t believe how cold I am.
I used to be permanently warm, with a flushed complexion. Now I have to wear layers, and I’ve still go quite a bit of weight to lose.
You were probably always flushed because your heart was having to work very hard and you were unfit.
Now you're fitter and slimmer the body is working more efficiently.9 -
One thing I have recently discovered is how many other obese and overweight people out there there really are. Before I never really noticed since they just blended in. I don't like that I notice this now. I am unsure if I am more often looking now when I did not before or why I am seeing it so much. I am not judging them. If anything it makes me sad because I know most are likely unhappy about it.
I have also learned that jealousy is really a mean beast. I have a friend who has been less than happy for me and my loss. Time to assess that friendship I tell yah!34 -

This happens I think just because we become more thoughtful about health in general and where we used to be physically and mentally and we are realizing what we were like before the weight loss. I use to have a drink or milkshake in my hand when driving. Now when I see this most often it is an obese person like I was so I make the connection with one reason I was obese.
Listening to people talking about their health issues while eating a 2000 calorie meal makes me want to scream because that was me 4 years ago.
On a positive note I am taken back that some people are now asking questions about how much better I am walking and moving after cutting out added sweeteners and all forms of all grains. Some even use the terms low carb and keto and state they are trying it. In these cases I mention while it has worked well in my case to walk death backwards that they should work to find the best Way Of Eating for their own bodies and mention that can take a long time.
As far as jealousy goes I try to ignore it and thankful I tend to not notice it. Anyone that wants me to leave my family and future grandkids, ect due to a premature death their thoughts and actions just do not matter. At 67 I have the best health I can remember over the past 40 years and life just gets better and better quality wise. Last weekend I entered my first antique tractor show with a 52 year old tractor I have been working on since last year. Since it was nearby I actually drove it the tractor to the fairgrounds.
Now I decide how I want to feel and just lose the jealous ones mentally or physically if not both.
Best of continued success to all.29 -
It's weird but I think that I can guesstimate people's TDEE now. I noticed an older, very short lady only having half a sandwich for lunch and realized that her maintenance calories are probably close to 1,200.... so lower than my cutting calories. I've just spent so much time playing around with those calculators that I think I have a Spidey Sense for that kind of thing now.26
