What nobody tells you about losing weight

I finally found an upside to being constantly freezing! (296 to 179 for the doubter lol) I have way better heat tolerance. It was 94 degrees here yesterday and everyone was complaining and I was perfectly comfortable and even went for a run. I used to hide inside the second it hit 80. It’s kind of a nice change to actually be looking forward to summer.28

It is amazing. I walk round to the shops more as I don't sweat buckets immediately after leaving the house. I can get into my car after it has been sat in the sun and only feel marginally uncomfortable rather than wanting to rip my skin off.
I can't wait to go on holiday and not hide in the air conditioned room/live in the pool!15 -
That you sometimes still can't but clothes. I was in Academy and found a shirt that looked nice. Well dang the luck - there are 15 shirts on the rack and not a single one in my "normal" large size. Lots of XL and XXL, M, and S - not any larges. I just found it humorous.7

I love to swim and had fully intended to do more as summer approaches, but no way in hell am I going out on a beach in public or a pool for that matter like this .................... I cannot even wear sleeveless clothes or short skirts, in fact I have to cover up more now than I did when I was carrying the weight.
I hear that - but - there is hope. I got some swim leggings and a swim-shirt.... I wear those. Google swim leggings...
Good Luck!
Had no idea those existed (swim leggings). Checking them out. The things you learn on MFP!
They have swim everything. A lot of ladies cover up completely for religious reasons.
Or for sun protection. As a redhead, I can't wear a typical swimsuit without becoming a crispy critter. I like the Modest Sea brand. My suit is like a minidress with leggings.
I feel you. I don't actually like summer for that reason. I tend to do a pretty good impression of a mozzarella-tomato salad...
Never considered getting myself swim leggings though.
I'll be off to the stores if anyone asks

I've seen it mentioned on these forums multiple times and I can't agree more: replace your wardrobe at thrift stores. I've had such great (and cost effective) experiences with thrift store finds that I may never go back to buying new. Except underwear.
Speaking of which...after weightloss, a $13 bra from Target now holds my girls up better than a $55 bra from Victoria Secret ever did. And I bet you'll look better in your new lingerie anyways

That people start telling you to stop losing weight, even though you are bordering normal/overweight on your BMI.
Why people feel it appropriate to comment is beyond me. My Mother In Law I will forgive, but friends partners?
The ONLY person I would listen to if they had concerns would be my husband, as he is the only one who would be able to see if I looked genuinely underweight.15 -

Truth! Whatever size I've been, they never have it. It's like a conspiracy or something16 -
I cant really say that no one told me this, I just didn't believe it would happen to me for some reason
Oh my god. People are not joking when they say your body starts to look worse before it looks better. I look like a lumpy sack of potatoes right now everything is loose and jiggly and just kinda...ew in general. Hopefully the next 60lbs helps a bit35 -

^^^^^This
Right now, I think I look like a melted candle. I'm sure things will firm up and look better than it does now, but in the interim, I don't always like what I see in the mirror. Ultimately, I know I am doing what's best for my health, vanity be damned!41 -
That weight loss can be fun.33

YES YES YES THIS. With clothes on, nothing looks amiss, but good gracious I have a lot of weirdly saggy skin in a lot of weird places. Trying to find a swimsuit that covers up my butt's bags has proven to be extra difficult. I was in the same boat as you though - I thought it would never happen to me, but all of a sudden it crept up on me!

This definitely, I'm down 100ish pounds, bit still got another 20ish, and I swear 15 of them are sloshing around on my stomach with 5 on my thighs,!.....quite uncomfortable doing areobics! I keep reminding myself that it will be much better when it's only skin!16 -
As you shrink in size, so does clothing. Not just size, but coverage. Size 24W shirts, full coverage in front, sleeves, no open back.... Size S/M at a Juniors store (I've always been small chested so shirts fit better from junios): crop tops, cuts outs, halter tops, extremely thin fabric...
No one told me that I would be forced to become very comfortable showing skin if I wanted a shirt that isn't a t-shirt or button up dress shirt. And shorts/skirts also got shorter.16 -

The skirt length! Had a favourite shift dress in size large and bought another online in medium -BUT I get it and it’s like 4 inches shorter - and I was barely comfortable in the length of the large size one! Now that the medium is too big I wonder if the small would actually be a shirt length - lol18 -

Seriously!!!! Do designers think people shrink in heights as we lose weight. Wait till you get to a size small shirt: I am 5'7" and small shirts fit everywhere but length!!! I have to buy medium unless I want a "midriff" shirt.9 -
Noone warned me that all my weight loss would be coming from my legs (genetics - thanks mum!) Am loving the definition, but there are so many 'weird' lumps and dents now!! haha13

This is so inspiring.
I’m just starting my journey but years back I lost a bit of weight
-Bending over or sitting down and feeling your abs work and you tummy not flowing over your legs is amazing!17 -

^^This exactly! All the tops out there seem to be too low now. I had to buy a Halftee to wear under stuff so I'm covered.

On the styles, agreed on wanting full coverage in smaller sizes!
The ‘new’ to big losers look, however, is intended to be layered and worn with a lingerie type under garmet.
I’m not into showing off this way but it’s in response to the very pretty and sometimes expensive corsets and bustiers
that some women think it a shame to cover such pretty lace, handiwork or material.
On skirt length, it is just annoying not to have longer, flowing and pretty lengths.5 -
Now that I am not a plus size anymore I have been seeing some of the cutest plus size clothes. In my bigger days I couldn't find a damn thing!16

Haha! I don't even have a butt and I noticed the difference!
So the latest thing I found out on my own because nobody told me
TMI WARNING
Discreetly crossing my legs to sneeze when I wait too long to pee doesn't work any more. Do check this at home periodically, you do not want to find out in public. Trust me.

That if you were DeathFat to start with, losing weight can play silly *kittens* with your menses.
So, I was sort of aware that my light and irregular not-even-proper-periods were due to my weight, because fat produces something like estrogen. But it wasn’t even on my radar when I started The New Regime. Until suddenly, one day, I dropped past some threshold weight, my natural cycle reasserted itself, and I discovered I’m a fountains-of-blood kinda gal.
That was over a year ago, but after cleaning the bathroom and putting on some laundry at 5am this morning FOR REASONS, I thought I ought to warn others37 -

Yes! I always had gnarly monthlies, (heavy, wicked cramps, bloating) but after losing the weight, I now wonder: "How am I not dead after all this blood loss?"17 -
