Name: Faebert
Age: 39
Height: 5’6
Total Weight lost: 47lbs
Time it took to lose: on and off 3 years. First 30 in 4 months and then gradually reduced goal weight
How long in maintenance: 12 months
Maintenance weight range: 115-120
Average weight recorded from 2017 (12months): 121
Average weight recorded from April: 114.9
Week of 4 May: 113.5
Week of 11 May: 113.25
Week of 18 May: 111.75
Successes/struggles of the week: Like a few on here I’m also struggling to maintain. My weight is definitely now too low. I feel like I am eating plenty but obviously it’s more volume and I need to factor in some calorie dense stuff. It’s just doing that in a controlled manner as others have posted. I’m going to take the advice to buy single serves/small portions of things and gradually increase calories. Fingers crossed!6 -
Name: Jen
Age: 46
Height: 5'2.5"
Total Weight lost:145lbs
Time it took to lose: 2.75yrs
How long in maintenance: Since 4/14/17
Maintenance weight range: Would like to stay under 122 at morning weigh-in.
Jan-Jun 2017 avg weight trend: 124.4lbs
Jul-Dec 2017 avg weight trend: 119.2lbs
January avg weight trend: 118lbs
February avg weight trend: 117.9lbs
March avg weight trend: 117.8lbs
April avg weight trend: 117.5lbs
Trend week of...
27th April: 117.5lbs
4th May: 118.7lbs (Bingeing starting to show up on my scale and belly roll.)
11th May: 119lbs (Managed to bank and eat low sodium for a few days for Mother's Day, so weight is actually higher. I may just learn to accept my pot belly since my face looks haggard under 120.)
18th May: 119lbs
Successes of the week: School days and workouts are going pretty well. Making myself communicate on my wall with my very supportive pals.
Challenges of the week: Still bingeing afternoons and evenings. Am tired enough to sleep when I get home, and I think this is one piece of the issue. The anxiety, time pressure stuff, and negative and rigid thinking are also a factor, along with self-sabotage and self-fulfilling prophecy. (I noticed that the bingeing started around my maintenance anniversary.) I have also been aware that I have turned inward. Not spending quality time with loved ones, just food. It’s a lot to untangle. I think self-love and positive thinking are where I should focus right now. I wouldn't yell at a friend who is having an anxiety meltdown, so I need to be a better friend to myself!
Lastly, today my mother would have been 72. She has been gone since 2005, but I still miss her so much!

@CoachJen71 I agree, sometimes its better to weigh a little more and not have that haggard look - at least our bellies can be covered. You're still very light for your height, we're same height and I maintain at 125lbs, much less than that and I have a feeling I would look older than my years (I'm almost 49 I don't want to look older than I am).1

I think this is really important to remember.
And I hope all of your memories of your mom today are happy ones. (((Hugs)))3 -
@CoachJen71 I love how you put that “need to be a better friend to yourself”. I’m not one for motivational posters and reminders but I’m so onboard with that phrasing! If I sewed samplers I’d put it in a pillow!
Hugs today. Spend some time with your memories. I empathize- not one day passes that I don’t miss my best friend ever, my mom.
And remember be a better friend to yourself- it would please your mom and make her proud, I’ll bet!1 -
Thank you, everyone! Working hard on the self friendship, and yes lots of good Mom memories today!6

Successes/struggles of the week: I don’t even know where to start with explaining my week or my feelings right now. So many mixed emotions with my birthday, Mother’s Day, the Tough Mudder tomorrow, and a potential significant career change all rolled up into this little window of time.
Trying not to eat my feelings, but at the same time, trying to carb load for tomorrow’s race. It’s a fine balance because carbs make me want to devour everything in sight... and so do mixed emotions!
As a person who likes routine and to plan in advance, I feel a bit overwhelmed at the moment. I should feel a bit more normalized by Wednesday as I’ll have most of the uncertainty in my life out of the way by then. I’m giving myself until then to let the crazy out. Then - time to suck it up, buttercup! Let’s see what check in looks like next week.

Ramadan has come. And with the fasting I’ve sort forgotten about my maintenance. However, I think my stomach has shrunk a little. It’s not able to handle my appetite. I’m also hoping that by the end of the month I should be able to have more control on my constant want to eat.
Another issue is my weighing time. I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning before breakfast. But, now that time is not so long after I’ve eaten last. I could weigh before I break my fast but I forget to do that due to the rush of preparing dinner and setting the table. Anywho, I’ll just weigh in next when I feel ready to jump on the scale.8 -

Struggles: all my family thinks I look way too thin still. They don't understand that a lean bulk is just that, lean! It's good to know they love and worry about me, still odd. Have hangry times, especially on really active days. Best of luck my fellow hopeful maintainers. Much love.5 -

psychod787 wrote: »I got told I look like a concentration camp surviver at work the other day. I was pissed! That's just not cool.
@psychod787 I agree; totally not cool.
When I read things in here like this, I remind myself of the following from the CDC (United States only):
“Percent of adults aged 20 and over with obesity: 37.9% (2013-2014)
Percent of adults aged 20 and over with overweight, including obesity: 70.7% (2013-2014)”
So, of course, if we are normal weight and/or lean, we will comparatively look like the disparaging comments they make to THEM but we know how great we feel!!
Congratulations on your hard work & on your improved health metrics!! You ROCK!!5 -

I could have written this whole thing, except 2012 is the year for me. And I hear you about anxiety, a huge issue for me right now. And about negative self-thoughts... With you all the way. Hugs and love, you are not alone.2 -

Average weight recorded from 2017 (12months): guessing 140, max 148
Average weight recorded from January: 133 (still on .5/week loss plan)
Average weight recorded from February: 130.5 (still on .5/week loss plan)
Average weight recorded from March: 128.8 (mostly on .5/week loss plan)
Average weight recorded from April: 127.5
Week of...
29th April: 127.2 Last week: Av wt 127.6, only 2 days over 10K steps
6th May: 129.6 Last week: Av wt 128.2, 3 days over step goal including 2 nice runs
13th May: 128.0 Last week: Av wt 128.9, 2 days over step goal, one elliptical workout and a half-day of gardening.
20th May: 130.2 this morning and richly deserved. Av wt 128.0, 3 days over step goal, one workout.
Success/struggles of the week: This was a fair week other than being too busy at work to focus on steps ... until I hit Fri-Sat which were blowout snacking on sweets days. Anxiety peaked, and my shaky, unfocused plan just crumbled. My weight this morning is over 130, which I have not seen since maintenance.
Plan, stick with the maintenance calorie limit but limit that sweets snacking to a couple hundred calories a day like I used to.6 -

For me, exhaustion is the number 1 trigger for binging - especially on sugary items. I definitely eat for energy to make it through the evening.
I am so sorry you are missing your mother. I can't imagine how difficult that is.4 -

6'3" is my height. I don't let them push me away from my goals. The problem I am running into is, I don't look healthy or feel healthy. My lab numbers went crazy. Very close to what a day competition body builder's hormones do after a prep. I am trying to sllooowwly regain weight in a controlled measure without the bf just piling back on. They are good people, they just worry about me and in my work environment, which is admittedly a rough environment, they don't know how to express it. They also are gen pop people. They don't have the back ground of researching and learning we as first off, successful losers, and hopefully successful maintainers do.5 -

Successes/struggles of the week: Well, as I've said in previous posts, I've been going off the rails every so often (letting my calorie limits go whistle); zoomed to the top of my maintenance range and sometimes a pound or two beyond that; happily resumed my restrictions and dropped back down. I concluded from that that I knew the score and would succeed at Maintenance.
But meanwhile, oh, oh, blood tests show that my liver enzymes are elevated. These days, with North America's obesity epidemic, a "fatty liver" due to too much alcohol is no longer the number one cause; instead it's "non-alcoholic fatty liver disease" (NAFLD) caused by an excess of fat (other than healthy fats) and sugar in the diet, and a lack of exercise!
Geez, I'm no stranger to fruit and veg; I tend not to eat much saturated fat; and I often get two or three hours of exercise every day!! I'm slim, I'm not diabetic, my BP's fine, my cholesterol's fine, my triglycerides are fine... oh and I seldom drink alcohol. So when my liver enzymes were first elevated last fall, it didn't make a lot of sense to my doctor and he thought maybe the results were a passing anomaly and recommended simply repeating them in April. Well, they were not only still elevated in April, but they were even higher.
RESULT: we decided that despite my not seeming to fit the profile, that the likely cause was my diet, and it needed to change immediately! My doctor said something like: "TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY!! NO CARBS THAT ARE HIGH ON THE GLYCEMIC INDEX!! AND NO SUGAR SUBSTITUTES EITHER - THEY MAKE YOU FAT!! NO FATS (except I assume healthy fats)!! AND EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!!! (I do! I do!)
So, since May 5th, I've been eating carefully with an eye to keeping my blood sugar levels stable, and minimizing if not eliminating unhealthy fats. And doing a lot of reading to get a better idea of what I can safely eat. Recently I was gratified to discover that the South Beach Diet seems to be what I need. And in a book on fatty liver, a dietician recommended the Mediterranean Diet.
CONCLUSION: As I've read more on the subject, including case histories, it occurred to me that the eating behaviour that I described in my first paragraph - going off the rails, mega sugar, quickly regaining 8 or 10 pounds, rinsing and repeating was the likely cause of my elevated liver enzymes - quickly gaining like that is very bad for the liver. I have therefore concluded that I can no longer afford to do that!!
On the plus side, now that I can no longer be wild and crazy with my eating habits, I am heartened by the realization that I will never again gain beyond the usual fluctuations... ha, that's quite the bonus!
Wishing y'all a wonderful weekend!8 -
