Allie - All beautiful. Your daughter and granddaughter are lovely. Now you can breathe a sigh of relief.
Janetr - You can see the love between your grandson and you. You look fab by the way.
Today we are passing through the Kiel Canal, which cuts right through the bit of Germany that joins onto Denmark. It means that shipping does not have to go right round the top of Denmark. It's 61 miles long with only two locks, one at each end. There are lots of bridges, a tunnel, and 13 ferries so people can get across. It's also used for recreation, picnics, cycling, running etc. You are allowed to use a small boat on it and many do. It seems weird, but nice, on an ocean going ship, to see houses, trees, and people waving as you glide by. Lots of canal traffic today.
Out chef, who is an accomplished cyclist, is going to ride the whole length of the canal for charity. We have all put a bet on a time for him to finish. I think ours is wildly optimistic as it is a Sunday and the footpath will be crowded in the afternoon.
I went up to run the deck this morning and stepped into more than inch of water. Rainwater. My shoes were soaked. So I went back downstairs to the gym and rowed for half an hour instead. Then it was line dancing after breakfast. During the course of the day I reckon I climb more than 40 flights of stairs of 9 steps each. I only take the lift after a swim, so I am hidden.
My legs have been aching recently, which I think must be the ballroom dancing. A lot of rising on the toes.
Do any of you and your husband's do ballroom dancing? ? ?
Remarkably few husband's on this trip even attempt it, though a few will take to the floor for a waltz. Only two or three have much idea. I am so proud of DH for having a go. Often there are quite a few people in the auditorium just sitting and watching us making our mistakes. There are dancing hosts, Colin and David, for ladies who want to dance. Of course, I prefer to dance with them, but I don't tell DH that.
I remember Michele and Vincent had some lessons for the wedding. What dance did you learn? Today we are learning the Rumba.
Much love to all, Heather, currently in Germany. XXXXXXXX6 -

My husband and I have talked about it in the past. There is a dance studio nearby and we've thought about signing up for classes.
I think my brother and his wife do. I know they both take dance lessons of some sort.

Machka - Still sending healing angels.
Thank you!Machka: I'm glad the medication is helping with your hot flashes. My doctor gave me an estrogen pill to help me with "the change" but the side effects were horrible and I threw them away. He said, "You'll be back." I didn't go back. I found this article that seemed to fit my experience.
https://www.menopausecentre.com.au/.../vitamin-d-the-sunshine-hormone-helping-yo...
Yeah, the side effects of estrogen would be horrible for me too ... blood clots!Machka – maybe some ginger tea would help your tummy?
I'm doing both ginger tablets and ginger tea. It does help a little bit.
Tonight (like in a couple minutes) I'm going to clean out one more cupboard, then ride my indoor bicycle, and then settle down to some paperwork.
My course is finished, and my next one doesn't start for a few weeks yet. So now I'm suddenly swamped with 4000 small projects to do to keep the household running.
Meanwhile I'm envious of all the warm weather some of you are experiencing. It's so cold, wet, windy and dark here.

Good morning Ladies!
Janet - you look fantastic!!
Allie - love your daughters dress and your granddaughter is a cutie!
My neighbor texted me he was thinking of making ribs tonight and asked if hubs and I would be around. I told him it was just me here with this weekend. I told him if he wanted to make ribs, I was his girl to eat them. He said if I was in, then he would cook. I have taken salad for the last year when anybody has done anything. Looks like it will just be he and I and his teenage son tonight. I didn’t want there to just be ribs and salad, which would be OK with me, but not so much for two guys. I told him I will go all out and bring potatoes and a vegetable. I’m thinking roasted potatoes (easy to toss leftovers to the deer) and roasted cauliflower and broccoli. I can use the leftover b&c with protein from the freezer or in egg white scrambles for dinner this week.
I’m going to do a few things around the house and then head to the store. I don’t have potatoes.

Barbara Southern Oregon .... tuition costs are insane! My son will have a very large debt load when he graduates. His Dad and I are taking a hit to our retirement ... which scares the dickens out of me ...
Drkatiebug ... my husband’s family has a Methodist background and I’ve recognized some of the things you’ve referenced. But don’t laugh... I think you look Methodist!

Good morning all! Happy Sunday! Woke up yesterday morning to rain. It rained until noon; a lot and hard. I did all of my shopping and errand running during that time. The rain stopped about noon and the sun came out STRONG; and boy did the humidity rise! I did indoor work the rest of the day. Baked three loaves of banana bread, made some gluten free chicken pasta salad for DH, prepped all of my fruits and veg, and made a green salad for a family bbq today. DD called, so I was able to viber chat with her and Joaquin! He is EVERYWHERE! He is climbing onto all of the furniture, chairs, couch, coffee table, fireplace, etc. He has a shopping cart that he races around with; but doesn't seem to have the courage to just let go and walk on his own. I am sure he could do it. He stands alone without hanging on, so those first steps are going to happen in the next week or two, I am positive! He is talking a mix of french, spanish and english. He has about twenty words that I can make out. His daycare uses baby sign language, so that does make it easier for me to understand what he is saying. In fact, a week or two ago, I was viber chatting with DD, and Joaquin was fussing and making a lalala sound. She kept asking him "What do you want? Do you want...?" I noticed his hands were flexing and I said, "he wants milk! Do you call milk lait or leche?" He was making the baby sign for milk (which looks like milking a cow). He was also tossing balls around during our talk, looks like he is going to be a lefty; which just thrills my DH (who is a lefty). He just had a well child check and he is 31 inches long and 21 pounds! Still a peanut; but getting taller.
Rebecca- Happy birthday to you!
Allie- Your daughter and granddaughter looked lovely! I hope you enjoyed the day and can now REST!
Janet- You look gorgeous and your grandson is a handsome young man! Wonderful picture of the two of you!
Barbie- The same thing happened to me yesterday when I attempted to work in the yard; too hot/humid and the flies were biting (the most frustrating insect), and like you; I came inside to power out. It was only out for a couple of hours, so no harm done. I was concerned as I had just done my grocery shopping (two weeks worth of meat in the fridge and freezer)
Beth and Barbara- The cost of education in America is horrifying! My kids, though both received scholarship money are thousands of dollars in debt due to school loans. DD owes about $15k; and this is for only two years of school and it is only partially the amount of the cost because she worked to pay down the loan while she was in school. DYS owes $30k, and he hasn't finished yet! It is SO frustrating to know that they are starting out life, in debt.
Rita - Your photos and road stories are fantastic. Do you journal? You should!
Heather- Loved that photo of you on the rocks among the heather! I love that you and your DH are dancing. My DH does not dance, at all. When we are at family weddings, I usually dance with my DYS. DYS has taken a couple of ballroom classes. DH thought DYS was crazy when he was taking them. BUT then, DYS explained that it's the best way to meet girls. lol He is a very popular young man at social events because he dances well.
Well, I better scoot and get outside today, before the sun gets high in the sky! Temps are supposed to be in the mid to high 90s and the humidity is at 75%! I think, I will be looking for a chair by the pool at our family bbq! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -
Donna - I would usually pre-log my whole week the Thursday night before so I could grocery shop to my log on Friday. For me it was easy, I eat the same breakfast, lunch and for the most part snacks each day. Dinner was what I was in the mood for or what protein I had on hand. It also helps that when my hub is home he eats whatever I cook. He was VERY supportive of my efforts. Edited to add that he is still with me and still supportive. I am now in maintenance. That last sentence made it sound like he wasn’t with me anymore. Didn’t want to confuse you since you are fairly new to our group.
Okie3 -
Donna- Break it down. Protein, carb, fat. Think in terms of meat/meat alternative, veg/fruit, and fat (oil, cheese, nuts, etc). That makes it easier to plan. I think of breakfast and lunch in terms of "fuel". Because those, I prepare for me; don't need to be fancy, I just need to refuel. Dinner is for myself, my son, and my husband, so I think in terms of what they like. But I still try to keep it basic without the high fat sauces, frying, etc. Meat, veg, fat (a lot of times the fat is added in the cooking of the meat or veg), also a whole grain if it is allowed on our food plan. Also, it's okay to eat the same thing every morning. Many of us do. I make a strawberry/greek yogurt smoothie pretty much every morning. On pancake day for my daycare kids; I will sometimes make myself eggs, zucchini, and cottage cheese, so that I don't feel tempted to have something covered in syrup! I eat a large green salad nearly every day for lunch. I will add four ounces of meat to it (usually a leftover chicken breast) and I make my own lemon vinaigrette dressing. You can do it! Think basic. Think fuel. KJ4

Hi all,
Some of the food at the German food festival.
I ate too many sausages - three different kinds plus ham.
I LOVE German sausage and sauerkraut. With lots of mustard.
6 -
Allie ~ Loved your daughter's lace dress. Looked like a fun wedding.
Janet ~ You and grandson looked great.
Happy Father's Day to all the Fathers! There is so much I wish I could have talked to my Daddy about. But, he was a stoic man and not very open to airing feelings.
Carol in GA2 -
Heather ... not one of those chefs looks German! Are you sure it was a German food festival?2

Sue: Thanks for your good wishes for the RV. We used to love cruising in our sailboat. DH can't balance well enough to be afloat any more so this seemed like the next best thing. We haven't had much fun in the last few years. :ohwell:
janet: Love the photo of you with your grandson.
Heather: German sausage with sauerkraut sounds yummy.
I am planning to have breakfast with dear friends today. Since it is Father's Day, I wonder how crowded the restaurant will be. DH won't be coming along. He is not all that comfortable with this group of women, and eating in restaurants is a challenge for him with the restricted diet he is on. The good news about his dietary changes is that he is feeling so much better than he was. Being gluten free is making his life better.

Hello! I’ve been out of the loop lately because my grandkids are here for a while.
Yesterday was my DGD’s 8th Birthday. We went to the movies to see “Incredibles II”. It was lots of fun and I was so surprised to see the theatre full. We had to sit at the 4th row from the front. The kids had popcorn and sodas. (I had a Diet Coke.)
When we returned home we had pizza and birthday cake! My DH was a darling to pick up the pizzas and cake.
I’m not going to church today. I’m just too tired to get up and go. One week of kids is wearing me out!! Maybe next week.
Have a good Sunday and for those celebrating Father’s Day with families, Happy Father’s Day!!
Live to all!

Donna how were your peaches? Love white peaches and black cherries with cottage cheese, tho the window for both is narrow. Resisted when the cherries first showed up, but Friday they were so big and beautiful and black that I succumbed. Even got two tiny white peaches. Hoping they'll sweeten and soften in the brown bag. The cherries are pretty but lacking that rich ripe flavor. That'll teach me patience!
Rebecca belated best birthday wishes, your bday is same as Joe's.
Lenora good to hear you got such great care. Continued wishes for quick and complete healing.
Evelyn being tired=mindless munching. Bingo!
NYKaren Amazing Grace on the pipes always breaks me down.
allie beautiful pics!
Sue in Wa Bandit "... will have some adjusting to do" LOL!
Janetr beautiful dress, beautiful you!
Dana Gabby's a cutie.
Heather with your writing talent and zest for travel activities, have you considered travel writing? You're really bringing your cruise alive for those of us who can't.
So there I was last night at 11:55pm, in my jammies, holding up the girls, and shuffling fast as I could to try to get yesterdays' steps up to goal. What an image Missed by 760 Gotta get an earlier start, starting NOW.
Enjoy the day, lovlies!

Barbara so proud of you for taking Tumble to school! I wish many of my neighbors had such sense with their pooches! I hope your icky feeling did NOT blossom into a cold!
EvelynI’ve had the kitty slip into the bath - but didn’t get out unscratched! I should not let Kidd Kirby and Jackie Kane perch next to me when I bathe, but I do- lol. Yes, like you, brushing my teeth early on in the evening is a major tool in my weight maintenance arsenal too! Someday I’ll share the story of how we got Kidd Kirby - he was everything we had set on NOT getting when we went to the animal shelter to look at cats. Lol.
Wendy!!. What a perfect first retirement day for you! Congratulations this is the first day of the rest of your life!
Okie Reading on the cool(er) back porch sounds like the best way to spend a summer day, imo! Enjoy the BBQ tonight.
Rita it sounds like an RV would be fun to rent for a vacation. But since I dont drive that wouldn’t probably be fun for John so I probably will never know. I’m not so sure about living in it, John and I often want to retreat to separate rooms - does your RV have a separate space for a bedroom (I assume different ones are laid out differently) ?
KJ watch out when Joaquin gets his feet under him, he sounds like a ball of energy! It is wonderful you get to visit with him that way!
Dana open smile or not, Gabby is adorable!
Nothing much here - we got back the artwork we had dry mounted and the one piece we got framed so we are off to the hardware store to pick up hanging supplies. I finally figured out how to hang dry mounted pieces of art so we’ll probably spend most the day doing that.
And I had a shocking realization on Friday, I have been swimming for over 1/2 a century. Somehow more than just knowing my age that fact kicked me in the gut and made me feel very old. Lol
We will make our grocery store run doing for weekly stocking up on the fresh fruit, potatoes and frozen veg. Maybe I’ll make some pot roast tonight.
Bye now,

Rye - What time is dinner? I’ve been wanting pot roast for months!! I need to remember to make one while hub is home. I can freeze the leftovers and enjoy them many more times.

Okie
On Sunday? Dinner is usually between 5:30 and 6:30. Just enough time to drive from OK to DFW - lol. John thinks pot roast should be a winter meal, but I’ve always loved it in the summer.2 -
Good morning!
Dana - so glad you are getting to spend time with your adorable grand kids. Happy Birthday Gabby! That cake is wonderful!
Some of my fondest childhood memories were staying with the grandparents (even tho they only lived a few miles away) and getting to do different things. My maternal grandparents would always dress up just to go to town and get groceries and shop. Nylons and hat for grandma in addition to her "town dress" and grandpa - clean shirt and dress slacks. We'd hit Montgomery Wards (that was a big deal back then) and eat in a little café. And then visit with other "old people", generally their siblings. We grandkids would sit politely (or else, lol) and listen to the grown-ups talk. I always was fascinated with what was going on in their lives.
Wendy - happy retirement! It's hot so many places here in the US I love reading your comments about chilly weather. I just finished reading a good book called "Following Atticus" by Tom Ryan who lived in New England and got a miniature schnauzer and decided to go hiking a lot of the peaks in New Hampshire. Some in winter in blizzard conditions and that little dog wore mukluks and a winter jacket and soldiered on. It's really a very touching story about their friendship and different things that happened in their lives during that time. Highly recommend it.
Machka - glad your medication is helping with the hot flashes. Do the docs give you any indication when your DH will be released - are they still waiting for certain milestones to be reached? I am tickled that he's able to be up and moving around and walking with you - I'm betting that physical activity is helping his brain rewire in all sorts of ways. (((HUGS)))
Rye - I am amazed at what a loverboy Kidd Kirby is. Seems like every cat we have ever had would run for cover if company came, and the last cat we adopted wouldn't even tolerate us petting her. It was an easy decision to send her over the Rainbow Bridge when she became old and frail, plus my cat allergies kind of sealed the deal. And I love hearing about your swimming! Lets me relive the times I had access to a pool. Even tho I swam on my back, I loved the freedom of being in the water like that.
I heard from Terry! She's been going through a lot - main concern right now is she'll be getting surgery on her foot (which has been getting worse) July 26th then will be in a cast and off her feet for a month. Anyhow she misses us and hopefully can pop back in soon.
Barbara AHMOD.... you have me laughing thinking about getting in your steps late last night and keeping the girls at bay, lol.
Allie & Janetr - thank you for sharing those wedding photos! Wishing the couples long and happy lives together.
Allie - I too loved your daughter's gown. She and your granddaughter are dolls. Whew, it's over! Good day to put your feet up!!
Janetr - that photo of your grandson reminds me of my 6'3" brother standing with his 5' tall maternal grandmother at his wedding. She too was very proud of him.
Supposed to hit the upper 80's today - we opened up the windows this morning when it was in the low 50's and have the house chilled to mid 60's, so now all the windows are closed and blinds pulled down.
Have a good day, ladies, and Happy Father's Day to the guys in your lives!
