This challenge is simple: get to goal weight by December 31st, 2018. I got the idea when I participated in a similar challenge. I'll be posting weekly with my weight and other information.
Please join in. Just a place to encourage and support each other. It's great to read about your progress and trials and tribulations.

Male - age 63 - soon to be 64
Height 5' 10"
Starting weight - 249.5 - March 2017
Lowest weight - 202 - December 2017
Goal weight 183 (planned maintenance range 180-186)
6/29/18 - 208.5 - I've been eating maintenance calories (around 2800) for about 6 weeks. Holding steady at 207-209. Have been plateaued between 202 and 210 since December. Making a fresh start for Onederland after Independence Day.8 -
Female - age 58 3/4
Height 5' 4"
Starting weight - 288 lbs - April 10 2017
Lowest weight - 177 lbs - April 2018
Goal weight 155 - 160 lbs
6/29/18 - 177 lbs - I originally thought to take the summer off and have been eating at maintenance for the last couple of months. And it was going really well. Too well actually, I could see me talking myself into being happy where I was. So I've dedicated myself to losing these last few lbs.
I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that my body needs less calories to exist and burns less calories when I'm exercising now that I'm 100 lbs lighter. But I'm slowly adjusting to it.
I know the last few lbs are the hardest..... but we can do it Steve !!6 -

I started this journey because I am pre-diabetic, my cholesterol numbers are climbing and my kidneys are acting weird. My doctor keep offering my medication. I wanted to try lifestyle changes. He doesn't think I can. So I set out to give it my best shot! I'm with you Steve!5 -

6/29/18 I have been maintaining with a 3 pound spread for nearly a year now. soooooo frustrating. But I have been heavy lifting for that year and I feel great but mentally, I need that scale to move. This will be a good incentive. Thanks Steve!4 -

Heard that, Carmen. I'm glad that I was able to retain my initial 40 pound loss. It shows me that I can maintain a stable weight in the future. But it's time to shed those love handles and that little gut. Let's do this!

6/29/2018 - Started a new career as a school counselor this last year. Spending my first summer break doing deferred maintenance. Gained 60 pounds during grad school and I'm tired of hauling it around. Having the summer off has allowed me to spend extra time on fitness and nutrition. One of my favorite discoveries has been Yoga. Hoping to be able to get some healthy new habits in place before I have to get back to work.
This should be fun! Thank you!3 -
I'll join in, I don't actually think that I can reach goal weight by 31 December, but I can reach goal weight + 10 kg. It'll take me another 6 months to get to goal weight. Yeah I lose weight slowly, I don't have any reason to lose weight quickly. But it would be good to be 76 kilograms at the end of the year.
Start of the challenge weight, today 86.8 kg
December 31 weight 76.0 kg
I need 59 grams a day, 100% achievable2 -
Hello. I'd like to join for the public accountability aspect.
My interim goal at 12/31/18 will be 210. My long term goal and desired 'normal' weight is in the 180 lb range. I've been 180 before (about 5 years ago) and life is much better lived in that range than at 260.
47years old. 5'11"
SW: 260 (6/30/18)
CW: 260
Interim 12/31/18 Goal: 210
Long Term Goal: 180
Let's do this. One life. I want to live it fit and healthy as I can for myself and family.

I need this! I've been hanging around the same 3-4# since Feb. Changed my MFP setting 5/5/18 to 1/2# per week loss ~ within 10# of UGW, weight loss had stalled + was feeling hungry more often.
Female, age 60, 5'4.5"
MFP SW 195 (Nov 2015)
CW 156.0
GW #1 150
GW #2 145 (normal BMI)
GW #3 maintain 140 -145
My "workouts" are walking the dog. Treadmill (non-dog) in winter when snow and ice make falling a reality ~ I live in Green Bay, WI. Occasionally our basement for weight machine & "circuit training" (home version for beginners ~ looked up ideas on the Internet). Aim for 5 - 6 times per week depending on life ~ I like a rest day now and then2 -
This week's exercise schedule:
Monday - 65 minute walk
Tuesday - walk at morning coffee, walk at lunch, walk at afternoon coffee (total 75 minutes walking)..... +9 holes of golf
Wednesday - walk at morning coffee, walk at lunch, walk at afternoon coffee (total 75 minutes walking)..... +18 holes of golf
Thursday - walk at morning coffee, walk at lunch, walk at afternoon coffee (total 75 minutes walking)..... +4 miles kayak + swim
Friday - walk at morning coffee, walk at lunch, walk at afternoon coffee (total 75 minutes walking)
Saturday - 18 holes golf, +60 minutes minimum hiking/biking
Sunday - 18 holes golf, +60 minutes minimum hiking/biking
Just getting out to walk on my "coffee breaks" gets me away from the desk and adds 590 calories to my weekly deficit ...... lol every little bit counts!5 -

A few years ago it took me 6 months to lose 15 lbs after constant exercise and watching what I eat so I'm not sure if I can reach my goal weight by the end of December but I would be ecstatic to weigh 130.
I have a desk job so I am trying to develop the habit of walking during lunch, even if it's only 15 minutes. Also, I am attempting to start counting calories again. Here's to adding more exercise to our lives!3 -
Good to see lots of new participants. Psyching myself up for a fresh start on Thursday!3

I would start with logging your food and your exercise. After a couple of weeks, you can start fine tuning your approach to something that works for you.2 -
Alteredsteve, your challenge sounds doable and tracks with my goals, so I'm in!

Current restart weight - 150.2 lbs - July 1, 2018
Goal by December 31, 2018 - 128 lbs
Overall goal: 122 - 128 lbs
August 1st I'll start with regular treadmill work. Until then, I'll be sticking to 1500 caloric intake and the exercise I get in the course of a normal day.1 -
Exercise: This time of year I have daily walks outside (definitely hiking with rocks, loose decomposed granite, the "fear factor" of coyotes, snakes, that pickup coming over my favorite incline just as I'm going up). I live in the desert on a dirt road. There is a 40 acres square that gives me a combination of rolling hills, one steep incline (which I really love), another gradual incline and a stretch of flat. It's roughly one mile and I usually make it 3 times around before my hips and my knees starts complaining. I average around 80 minutes. I take one day a week off but I don’t plan for it just in case I don't feel well and I have to miss that day. If nothing stops me then the seventh day is my rest day. My favorite time to exercise is in the mornings.3

My husband started Medifast last October and I was so impressed with his change in blood panels at the doctor that when I got the "pre-diabetic" diagnosis, I jumped on board. I am not crazy about the packaged meals, but the lean and green meal each night has really forced me to learn portion sizes and what a healthy meal consists of (hint not dessert with a bottle of wine). Accountability will help me stay focused!4
