I'm back for July. Decided my goal for this month would be 60 miles combined walking/running. I'm off to a decent start.
I missed the last few days in June because we were busy car shopping but we finally found what we wanted and bought it yesterday. Yay! Through the process I also discovered that my previously horrible credit (due to my exhusband) has been restored to excellent condition. Hooray for hard work!
I'm looking forward to July and continuing my C25K app training. Currently on week 4. Also hoping to get some fun runs and hikes in when we go to South Dakota for vacation later this month.
July 1 nothing
July 2 2.84 miles on elliptical
July 3 2.4 miles run/walk D2W4 of C25K
6 -
July 1- 6 miles, mostly trail
July 2- rest day
July 3- 6.7 miles 10 X 400s w/ 200 recoveries
12.7/120 miles
Early track workout this morning. Left my house at 4:45 to join the group at the track 2 miles away. I love starting my run in the moonlight and finishing up as the sun is rising. I imagine if I did this every day it would lose its magic, so for now I am content to enjoy my Tuesday runs. As I was heading to the track, I was secretly hoping that nobody would be there and I could do another slow and easy run like last week, but no such luck. I was stuck bringing up the rear of the local speed demons. Apart from not having a dry spot on me when we finished, it was a great workout. And I thoroughly enjoyed my walk home with my iced coffee. Great way to start the day!6 -

I'm around here, just life getting in the way. Wunjo products are pretty awesome. They are literally a brand new company, so some kinks are getting worked out. Add to that the fact that it takes about 2 weeks for packages to come from Norway, and it can take a little while for things to arrive. That said, I've been running in my X2 and LOVE it. Hands down it's my favorite vest. I normally hate running with a reservoir, but with my X2, it's easy. The vest is super light, perfect for shorter distances under 50k.4 -

If I recall right the X2 is a bit smaller than the X5. I got the X5 because I have a belt that holds 40ish oz of liquid and was looking for a big step up for times when I am really thirsty. But I suspect both packs are essentially the same other than that.0 -

Well if they are from Norway I will have to get that. LOL I can pick it up whenever I finally go visit.3 -
I was hoping to get up this morning to run before work because it was going to be cool enough and much hotter this evening. But when my alarm went off at 3am, I hit snooze for about an hour and then decided I'm too tired anyway. Ugh... not happy with my lack of motivation. I need to just go out and do it despite not wanting to and I bet I would have felt good if I had.
Instead, I'm going out tonight when it will be about the same temp. as it was on Sat. (dew point about 75) and get my 10 miles in. The differences from Sat. are: I'm going only 10 miles today instead of a HM distance, I won't have shade from trees, there are minimal hills and I'm on pavement rather than technical trails, and I'm not carrying as much water/supplies for wilderness because I'll mostly be in town and in city park doing loops (there is a water fountain to refill my bottle every loop/mile).2 -

They can both hold the same reservoir, The difference is that the X5 can hold 2 bottles in the front, the x2 just holds one. Also, the x5 is more of an expedition pack, with the waist pockets, whereas the X2 just has straps on the side. There's a lot more cargo capacity in the x5.0 -
Who ran a sub-10 minute mile this morning? THIS MONSTER, that’s who! I streamlined the process by running exactly two miles, so I didn’t need to pace myself the second mile, but I’ve decided that it counts and so there!
On the advice of my marathoner brother-in-law I’ve been looking at routes that don’t involve running on sidewalks, which he suggested my knees would probably thank me for, and not always running the same loop in the same direction because of the word that starts with C that Google doesn’t want to tell me right now. Slanty paths? I know someone here mentioned it as a possible reason my right knee has been twingy on and off so I figure I'd try mixing things up a bit.
Anyhow, today I tried running a straight mile out, mile back on the Greenway - a converted railroad corridor with an entrance about two blocks from my house - and it was quite lovely. A light rain when I started turned a little muggier than I’d have preferred, but at least it wasn’t too hot. I took it easy on the way out then let loose on the way back and smooshed my PR for fastest mile, BAM! 9'48"!
Late May or early last month I asked about how people schedule their shorter runs and have been playing around with various plans ever since, weather permitting. It’s tough because my only goals right now are “run more and run faster” but I think what I’m going to try this month is:
Monday: Lift (optional 1 mile warm-up run)
Tuesday: Easy 3-3.5 miles
Wednesday: 2 miles (slow out, fast in)
Thursday: Lift (optional 1 mile warm-up run)
Friday: 2 miles (slow out, fast in)
Saturday: Long run
Sunday: Rest
JULY MILES:
7/1 Su - 1:01:09 - 5.43
7/2 Mo - lifted heavy things
7/3 Tu - 0:20:33 - 2.01
Total: 7.44/50 miles
Races!
July 4: Red, White and Boom! 5K
October 6: Twin Cities Marathon Weekend 5K22 -

@MegaMooseEsq Congrats on the sub 10 mile!
Right now my husband and I are still planning on racing the Stars and Stripes 5k at 7 pm even though the heat and humidity are going to be hellish - wish us luck and pray nobody gets heat stroke! At least the rain last night cleared the atmospheric conditions a little so we are no longer under a special advisory for small particles. I had never seen that warning before, there was a complicated explanation about how dust from the Sahara traveled all the way to Memphis just to mess with runners who have asthma!
I painted my fingernails red, blue, and sparkly white, in honor of the race. And I have a red, white and blue headband and shades. So at least I will look patriotic while sweating my socks off.5 -

@MegaMooseEsq - Congrats on your sub 10 mile!! Your BIL is definitely giving you good advice to avoid the sidewalks. In addition to being a harder surface, they also generally have more trip hazards and sometimes decapitation threats from tree limbs. And I believe the word you are looking for is camber. If you run on the streets or on a loop path, it is also good to run in different directions so that you are not always turning on the same leg. This is more likely to have an impact on your knees, whereas camber is more likely to affect your hips and back. If you run in neighborhoods with cul-de-sacs, alternate the direction in which you turn on every cul-de-sac to help balance out the impact on your knees.1

So, I do not know your level of fitness or training, but if you are newish or even intermediate to this you will want to make sure you are taking at least 1 rest day a week. It is way too easy to overdo it and burn out or get hurt. Just something to consider. Some of us (including me when schedule permits) do run every day for big stretches, but by far most runners only run 3 or 4 days a week.
No I don’t take rest days and I’m really fine with doing this,it’s helping me loose weight.
I don’t over exert myself
Anyone else a bit worried about this?
@Iffiormana Are you saying you walk 5 miles every day and are now going to run every day? I hope not.
Rest days are when your muscles get stronger and faster. You can walk on rest days, but you shouldn't run, and if you're a beginner you should only run 3 days a week.
I didn’t understood that people here are just talking about running. My bad !!
How long have you been doing that? Are you doing Couch to 5K?
If you've been doing this for a year, and you still can't run constantly for more than a mile, you're running too fast. Slow down, and your range will get longer.5 -
July goal: 80 miles
7/1: 7.6 miles
7/3: 4.2 miles
11.8/80 miles
@Avidkeo Another Texas runner here. I'm west of Dallas/Fort Worth. We have been having a lot of 100+ days this year.
Today's run was really nice. It was 77F with a light breeze so it felt pretty nice. It has been so hot this summer so even though it was still hot and muggy and I was dripping with sweat when I got home it still felt kind of pleasant-ish. I didn't even see any dogs which was nice. I'm still a little pissed that a dog actually bit me on Sunday. I wasn't really expecting too much from this run today. I didn't sleep well and I felt really tired when I got up and had a hard time getting going. But once I got out the door I just really felt good. I ended up with negative splits which is unusual for me. I try not to start out too fast, but I tend to run the first mile fast-ish and then slow down more and more as the run goes on. So I was excited to actually finish faster than I started. If only I can learn to do that in a race. lol
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K5 -
WTG @MegaMooseEsq. Awesome progress!1

This thread is moving fast but I guess it always does that at the beginning of the month. Don't be one of the people who gives up and quits halfway through the month!!!
Met my friend to run C25k w5d1 today, and found out she didn't do her 2 runs while I was out of town. I was afraid that would happen, but I stuck to what I had warned her would happen if she didn't do them. I said "oh no, because now we're running for 9 minutes", started my timer and off we went. In other words, we didn't go back to the workouts she missed, we moved right on to the next week. She seemed to do alright, and we did take it slow. QUESTION: Those of you who are motivated by working out with a friend - how do you make yourself get out of bed on days when no one is waiting for you?
I counted the run with my friend, and then tacked a little more on afterwards. It was slow, including the part I did by myself, but I'm still sore and wanted to take it easy, so it was probably just about right. My race calendar is looking a little empty, though. I think I'm OK with that - for now!
Upcoming race:
7/16 CityTrail OnTour 5k3 -

Camber, yes, thank you! I was initially a little skeptical about how much difference it could really make, but then my BIL pointed out that if I run 10 miles a week and take winters off, that's 250-350 miles a year and the little differences in how I'm landing will add up if I keep doing the same paths in the same directions over and over again. I've already got something wonky happening with my gait landing harder on my right foot so I'd rather not exacerbate that. I figure doing out and back for the shorter runs will help, and then make sure to change up the direction on my longer loops- I'd like to keep all my joints as healthy as possible for as long as possible.0 -
@MNLittleFinn Thanks, bud! Glad to see you are still around. I hope things get better for you...but then again life has been getting in my way for six decades now...0

July goal is 150 miles
7/1 5.00............ 5.00/145.00
7/2 Rest............ 5.00/145.00
7/3 7.00............12.00/138.00
Upcoming races:
October 20: Sinnemahone Ultra Marathon Trail Race (50K)

Beat my June goal (200 miles) by 25 miles so I'll say 250 miles for July since my marathon training plan is bumping up the mileage.5
-
The goal is to run 50 miles this month!
I'm going to try to get at least two good outside morning runs in a week. We'll see how far that gets me.7 -
Mileage has been low to start July off but it will pick up this weekend. I have a race (Independence Day 8k)tomorrow but I'm not going to kill myself since I have 10 miles to do according to my training plan. I need to read back a few pages and see how everyone is doing.

Can we do a Where in the World are you? I keep seeing others posting about it being winter and I wanna know my fellow winter runners are! I assume this gets done every month or so, but I'm new so please!
I'm in the Far North of New Zealand - called the winterless north, but it didn't feel that way last Saturday when it was 4 degrees Celsius outside. But to be fair to anyone further south, we are averaging about 10 degrees atm so I feel a bit bad about complaining...
I'm in the western suburbs of Chicago, USA, where it is currently hot as satan's you-know-what.6
