Did not set alarm to get up and run this morning, woke up at 7 am and stayed in bed until 7:45 am when I decided I needed to get up and run before it got too hot. Out the door at 8:02 am and it was 77 F, 90% Humidity and Dew Point was 75. May have waited too late but did the 4 miles.
Foot felt great but it was still a slow run. Pace has suffered due to not running much the past two months.

Has anyone here run the Columbia Gorge Marathon or HM? https://www.columbiagorgemarathon.com and if so what did you think? I was looking at emails and it popped up - now I want to run the HM with Hobbes the Vizsla! It looks awesome.
I will be back later to checkin on all the posts!
That looks gorgeous. Hilly though - read the reviews. I think an MFP meet-up to run this race may be in order.4 -

So I decided to get up and head out early before it got hot... and then once again discovered I am not a morning person. It was nearly 10 by the time I got out there. Forced out a half-marathon but it was brutal. Lost between 9 and 10 POUNDS of water through sweat.
My wife, bless her heart, actually walked behind me with a towel drying up the floor as I walked to the bathroom to shower.
Did not look at my pace, do not really want to know!9 -
@PastorVincent Great run! Almost makes up for the first three days of slacking and whining.8

We did the Firecracker 5k. It was hot! I still managed to get a PB, though! Temp 85, real feel 97. Dew point 78. Thankfully there were misting stations along the course.

Thanks @juliet3455 you are so sweet. She is a wonderful kid, I don’t know what I did to deserve her but I’m thankful every day.7 -
Morning all! It's 6am and I'm awake but not run today, rest day! After 3 days in a row I'm glad of this. I've really taken to doing a lot of stretching since starting this, even doing some yoga at night before bed!
I'll be going for a light walk at lunch, nothing strenuous. Then a gentle 5k tomorrow morning. I know it's only been 5 days for me, I'm still excited and looking forward to putting my shoes on. Even this morning I was tempted but I know rests are really important. Don't want to lose my mojo before I really get off the ground!7 -
July Running Totals (miles)
7/1 – rest day
7/2 – 5.11 not easy enough
7/3 – 4.14 warmup, speed work, cool down
July running total to date – 9.25
Nominal July mileage goal: 100 miles
Real goals: Get healthy. Build base. Work toward being able to run Wineglass in September.
Today's Yesterday's notes – It was hot. What else is new, in July. No formal club practice this week, so I dropped in on the speed workout with the training program I pace long runs for. First speed workout of the session, introducing intervals to runners who have never done them and don't all own GPS watches.
The assignment was 8-10 x 200m at rep pace, with 1:00 to 1:30 recovery. Of course, the coach didn't say "rep pace" or "R"; he explained in terms people with no training experience could understand. The 200m was marked as a section of an asphalt trail around a pond near the running store. This generates a traffic pattern as the group spreads out and starts the later intervals at various times depending on how long it took them to run the interval and how much rest time they were taking.
I chose to do it as 10x200 at R pace (target: 43 seconds) and do an easy jog for most of my recovery interval. The foot traffic made it hard to keep moving for the entire minute and still start the next rep on time, so I ended up with a few seconds of standing around for each recovery interval. Then there was the rep where I had to dodge the family with small child out for a recreational walk. All in all, it was more interesting than 200m intervals on a track.
At 88º F (31º C), I expected my intervals to be slower than my usual R target of 42 to 43 seconds for 200m; but somehow it didn't feel as humid as it has recently. My 10 intervals came in between 40.9 and 43.9 seconds, with the slowest one being the rep where I had to dodge the small child. Only 2 reps were faster than 42 seconds, and only 2 were slower than 43 seconds. That's consistent enough for me, given the conditions. Throw in a warmup of a bit over a mile, and a rather shorter cool down run, and it came out to a little over 4 miles total. That's enough, given that the intervals were run hard.
Today is July 4, US Indepence Day. There were local races of 5K, 4 mile, and 10K distance this morning. I slept late. The original thought was today is too soon for me after Charlie's Old Goat Trail; in hindsight, I think I could have raced this morning if I had not done speed work yesterday evening. But I did the speed work with the assumption that I would not race today, and might take today as a rest day.
Still undecided about today. I might take it as a rest day, or I might run to and/or home from the town's fireworks display this evening. Don't know the precise distance, maybe 3 or 4 miles. 96º F (36º C) right now, but perhaps it will cool off a bit this evening.

Woo hoo I made it out for a run at 5:45am and it was BEAUTIFUL! stars were out, no wind, moon in the sky. So still and relaxing. I managed an average pace of 6:20 min/km which is good for me over 6.5k!
So half way through the first week, 18/90km done for July!
And I totally agree, kiwis and aussies should run the world, though we fight like siblings over out favourite toys - aussies keep claiming famous kiwis as their own for example.
Hahaha You can have Russell Crowe back. He was saying he's Australian the other day somewhere!
Nah you can keep him lol1 -

Good job on your race @rheddmobile.and @AprilRN10. I know they were hot and humid, like it is across the whole country! I think we should move July 4th to November2

To do that, we'd have to become British again:
Remember, remember, the 5th of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot.

OK, so...
7/2 = 3.6
7/3 = 3.4
7/4 = 5.0 !
Total so far = 12.0 miles
Not a bad start to the month. I am elated that I made it 5 miles today. Granted, I ran it in the time it used to take me to run 10k. But WHO CARES. I'm running. I've run three days in a row. Go me.
Tomorrow will probably be a rest/walk day because I can't feel my legs.14 -

Hmmm quite different celebrations lol though I guess the same thought. One is gaining independence from the empire, the other is a group of people who failed to gain independence from the empire by attempting to blow up parliament.0 -
@rheddmobile great race in what sounded like awful conditions
@AlphaHowls you have surpassed my goal for the month great start to another awesome month of mileage. Seriously I’m amazed how you run so many miles every day.
@marisap2010 that looks like a lovely place to run
@PastorVincent nice job in the way too hot
@AprilRN10 woohoo on the PR

Of course, Guy Fawkes night (5th November) is more about celebrating the LACK of success in a revolution....
Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!6 -

So I had to look this up - sounds fantastic! And you should definitely do this with Hobbes. What's the max miles he's run? I took my shelter/rescue/shiba inu mostly dog 8 miles a few years ago but it wiped him out. Before that I owned a German Shorthair Pointer and that dog could go and go and go and go. I used to run trails through the woods - I'd take him off the leash and just let him run, call him back, let him run etc. I figured for every mile I ran, he ran 4. And when we got home, he'd still have energy. I loved that dog so much - but after he died I knew I needed a dog with a little less energy!
Meant to do 4 today - managed 1 mile outside and 2 more on the treadmill. Just. So. Humid.
2 -
I guess my treadmill work on Monday was harder on my old knees than I thought, so I wound up taking yesterday off to take Advil and rest. Back to the treadmill today. I did 2 miles of intervals and then walked a mile. Hopefully I won't feel so jolted tomorrow and can try again.
My favorite race so far was a trail 10K with an 80s theme held by a local church. The trail was fun and the weather was perfect. I've enjoyed both of the Disney races I've done, but I think I would like them a lot more if I had a friend to run with. Both times I've been either a lot slower or a lot faster than the people I knew who were there and it just didn't work out to have a buddy.
