Jumaa Mubarak eveyone. Hope everyone is well. Just wanted to share that i've managed to do some form of exercise every single day of this Ramadan ( thanks to this thread). That's quite an achievement for me personally.
I would love for this to continue after Ramadan too.
Question does anyone know if the 30 Day Shred DVD is available in the UK? I've heard so many good reports about it.
im in UK and started it today amazon is selling for £6 and ive seen it in HMV but it was more expensive0 -
thanks monkeysmum! and dexters!0

I'm so excited! My husband is coming home tonight insha'Allah after being away since June on business! Since he's last seen me I've lost another 22.4 lbs! But having him home always disrupts my routine because he likes to eat out a lot! Here's praying that I don't undo the hard work I've done. His flight arrives late which means I'll be breaking my fast as I'm driving to the airport to pick him up. I still haven't decided what I'm going to eat. And I don't know if he is fasting today or not (I know he's excused because of his travel but he said he might try to). See...my routine is already out of sorts!0

Fasting going well but today, i felt really light headed, and now i have a headache. Hope i don't feel like this tomorrow.0 -

My family likes to eat out as well. What I've discovered is that most restaurants have nutritional guides on their websites, so maybe you can look up their menu in advance and check the nutritional values before you go out to eat. This way you already have a plan in place as to what you will order and how many calories, etc it is. Also, many restaurants have an additional menu with foods that are lower calories.
Other than that....yay! I'm happy for you that your hubby is coming home! I know you must be excited.0 -

Morning everyone,
I have missed my morning workout, so i will probably do it the the afternoon, or after iftar.
Last night, i had a few many sweets, oops. I just can't help myself. But today is a new day, so lets see if i can control, or at least say within my calories today.
@dexters_dexterity, yes only 1lbs left !!!!!!! But i may just change my goal, as i want to reduce my body fat. I have a feeling that i may add a couple of pounds after fasting :S0 -
okkk.. i'm expecting TOM as well .. and i'm feeling like falling of the wagon .. didn't workout and feel tired and sleepy .. and started really messing up with the food.
i mean i have all the good and healthy stuff - but .. i have all the stuff and not really measuring it .. my belly was the measure for the past 2-3 days
So not happy with myself.
Don't be too hard on yourself. I always make allowances around my TOM because i know i'm going to feel, moody, tired and want all the foods that i shouldn't eat (Chocolate! and lots of it). i then try and make up for it afterwards.
I admit i can't focus on this while fasting- i 'm trying to do the focusing on ibadah .. ths was always my struggle.. i feel like " split " if i do one i can't do the other one - and it SHOULD be a life style and it should be natural for me to do both ..i'm struggling but i'm trying .. ugh.. now i remembered my trainer..
whenever i would say " i'm trying " she would yell at me
" there is no trying- do it or do it not but don't try !
Am glad to hear your trying. because if you are trying, you are doing it!
the warm water is such an easy task and always so hard for me to stick too.. so i think i should pick that challange allong with some other during the next month insha Allah.
sis smb0701- welcome to the therad- and you are not the only one who thought " i'm the only one here " heheh how could you know ? i was surprised how many mmbrs showed up when i started this topic. So now we know.. that ramadan doesn't have to be a reason to forget our goals - scale wise.. - don't mind me- i did. but look at the other strong sisters that have lost weight and exercised on a regular basis. ! they are the proof it can be done
warm water is a good idea. i used to do it with a few drops of lemon and honey.0 -
Sorry! can't quite figure out this quote thing!0

Assalamualaykum Everyone...
Last night I completed Day 13 of the shred...it was really tough since I did it close to 1am. I broke my habit of doing it after iftar everyday for 12 days. I hope I don't do the same tonight because 1am workouts are not fun at all.
Just wanted to know if any of you are having any constipation issues...This always happens in Ramadan because lack of too much greens, fiber and water. Any tips people, I am going to buy a tub of pitted prunes today, those always help.0 -

may be dehydration, otherwise im chronic patient of constipation, its in my genes , i eat a fig for tht. In ramadan my fibre source is chickpeas and kidney beans, since im not eating meat these days so i have added em as source of protein.
u can have oranges in ur diet too, it will help dehydration too0 -

I asked this question in another thread and was given this link to a site that helps you calculate body fat %:

Insh'Allah, this helps.0 -
Well I did it again! I slept thru my alarms for suhoor!! I think it was last Sunday that I did it too! Another long day ahead....about 12 hours exactly.0
-
Insha Allah you will be ok .. it's sunday so take it easy , afternoon take another nap.. just try to relax and read - you'll be fine..and actually compared to some other places 12 hours is not that bad the only part that is hard is the water but the food is getting really easy. My kids are begging me to fast without suhur they are ( 13,13 and 11 years old ) they want to eat for iftar.. and for suhur they only want to go with water but i don't let them.. bc they are very active and in school.
Alhamdulilah they have been fasti ng i think since they have been 6 years old.. and praying all the prayers incl, taraweeh.. and they never complained of hunger and thirst, masha Allah. But outside of ramadan my 11 year old girl she eats like a bird and she can hardly go without food more than 3 hours.. she has to eat somehing every few hours ,so i don't know how she manages this long desert summer ramadan days. Allahmdulilah , during ramadan, Allah is making it easy for us all, it is His mercy.0 -
we are half way there. many of you have done so much more than i had ever expected. you stayed on the plan- whatever your plan was, kept logging and coming here- tried to workout as much as the situation allowed. Didn't give up. That's the most important part.
Now i think we are more used to the fast - and the second half should be easier- and the days are getting shorter even if only for few minutes..
I know we need to intensify the ibadah esp for the last part of ramadan- and THAT needs to be our primary goal. Don't count the days of ramadan ilke a countdown - when will it end so i can go back to working out .. noooo
let's do the most of it, let's take advantage of these blessed days, AND nights. Ask God to help you .. see if you are like me - struggling with weight loss, and you are do ing it for your health and not to be on the fitness magazine cover, or to be flexing your muscles to your buddys.. - you doing everything you can- and it's still not happening.. i have asked everybody for help..
doctors, dietiticens, trainers, gyms, books, magazines, internet, people arround me, i have " meditated " and tried hypnotizing myself, and thinking myself thin, and drinking myself thin.. you know - you get the point so like i said i have knocked on all the doors for help.. until -- this year before ramadan i have realized.. i didn't knock on " One dore " .. to ask for help with this particular matter.
Why ?
Because i thought it was foolish to ask God to help me with " weight loss " i thought you need to ask Him for more serious matters.. health, childrens well beeing, forgiving sins, you know..
but weight loss ? nah.. thats silly
until i have realized that the previous generations have asked God in their prayers FOR EVERYTHING , if they run out of salt they didn't run to the neighbor begging for salt, they raised their hands and said " oh God.. i'm out of salt " first " consulting HIM " than.. do the next step. That is to show us how much thought they spend on the prayers, how they were used only to ask from God and not to ask from people. Relying on His help, not some s pecialists.
Than i realized that.. obesety - down the road, with the years will be causing me one of the following or more of the following..
diabetes, heart problems, cholesterol , chronic joint/back pain, it will make me be stuck on who knows how many pills a day for what conditions.. - does't that make it serious enough ?
Than i realized that beeing fat also makes me limited in terms of performing certain acts of ibadah.. i mean if i went to hajj i would probably have more issues than if i was 50 lbs lighter.. i have more issues standing in prayer for more than 1 hour.. ,, than i remember some " hadith " talking about " big stomachs " and how they are not really favored in our religion, it's not something to be proud of and it's not leading by example ..
if we consider the practice of the Prophet as. how he used to eat and recommend us to do the same 1/3 water 1/3 food, 1/3 air in the stomach.. can we claim that we are following his practices ?
" the worst hole son of adam can fill is his stomach " ..
so - when we look at this things.. than we realize we are not following them. We are weak. To some point some of us have desires that we can't win against. Desires are not only the obvious ones. Food can be a desire if you can't control it.
Sleep can be a desire if you are spending most of your time sleeping meaning/ you are lazy.
Comp. games can be a desire- comparable to gambling if you can't stop it.
So everyone of us " has a weak spot/ desire "
My desire that i'm fighting with all my life is FOOD. Sometimes i win, sometimes the food wins. But i want to win against it once and for all. I want to be in control . I don't want to be a victim of my desires, i don't want it to be in control of me.
Now after who knows how many years of f ighting it with all i had .. i realize i can't win this battle alone. I need HIS help. and like i said.. i aksed everyone BUT HIM.
In this blessed month, let's take advantage of all it's blessings, let's ask HIM to help us with whatever we need help with. Let's focus on our physical part , let's re-energize ourself, let's cleanse inside, let's strengthen our will , our goals, our motives, .. let's get His help , instead of batteling it alone . Let's make the intention why we are doing it. First to please Him, this body we got - it's a gift we have to treasure and take care of , let's make an in tention to try to follow more examples from the practice of our Prophet a.s. - he had many many advices in the medical area- but we seam to be neglecting them - even though todays medicine is confirming things he said 1400 years ago , or practiced without explaining their meaning.. but today we understand why it is beneficial. .. We have 300 some days in the year to focus on the body, now let's take advantage of the remaining 14-15 days to focus on our soul, or physical part.
I'm not suggesting that you all need to stop working out for the next 2 weeks. BUT i'm saying- let's not make it a priority and our main worry. Let's make healthy choices as much as we can , because we love our body , we love our health, we love our children that we want to be arround for longer- and better examples.. let's make healthy choices , without obsessing about the numbers behind it.. let's make the healthy choices just because...
let's get the bourden off .. the kcls, the carbs, the protein.. the burn and what not..
after this 2 weeks - we can sweat all we want and insha Allah we will.. but now let's dig in.. our souls and sweat " through " our eyes.. /tears.. let's lighten our bourden - inside .. after this we will work on the " scale " weight.
Stay in touch. Stay connected. Don't go away . Don't give up. Each day is a new start - not everyone is blessed with a new day. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is a mystery- today is all we have. Enjoy today. Take advantage of it. Who knows if you / i / will be alive for the next ramadan. Don't count the days " when it will be over " but take advantage of it's each and every minute..
sorry for the super long post0 -
Sound advice sister!! I haven't really lost much this ramadhan anyway.. Put it on hold. I never have any energy to do a last minute workout when my day is crazy filled action as it is!
Hope it's going well for everyone x0 -
i have more issues standing in prayer for more than 1 hour.. ,, than i remember some " hadith " talking about " big stomachs " and how they are not really favored in our religion
Sis u have writing and convincing cabaplities!
Im quoting this part coz just fews days ago i made this type of statement and i said tht ill come up the verified version but i could not. Those who have missed tht post for the reference im repeating
my mom-in-laws says tht her Grandmother used to tell some quotes from quran, i asked her again for complete reference but doesnt remember the exact surrah but the core is: The sketch tht has been created for the ppl who r spending their lives in luxury and doing nothing for hereafter will be sitting with big bellies and gossiping and backbitting ... everything tht should abstained from...so she heard this in her childhood and thts y she kept herself fit coz ppl who are sketched as ppl going to hell have big bellies too...
But sis bosanka, i know i havent portrayed it as well u could have
and for the things we could do after this month i thot of while i was having my dinner, eating slow. 2008 and it was ramadan too... i was watching a cooking show and our local chef who has special program for healthy meals quoted this. and said Sunnah is chewing 32 times(never verified the digits though). i started this. then i thot why am i couting 1,2,3...i should do something else so i read darood-e-ibrahimi and counted on my digits it comes approximatley around 32...tadah i followed somedays i lost weight too those days...but since now i live in joint family and im always in a hurry i forgot it... but today i thot i should resume tht
Disclaimer: i know the post can be offensive for moderators so pls dont reply involving too much religion, i tried to simplify alot or we can use our personal inbox for tht. Is it possible to send a mail to multiple ppl on MFP like on yahoo or hotmail0 -

sorry for the super long post
Mashalla sis, I am absolutely loving that post at the moment. It's very inspiring and thought provoking and made me realise that I am guilty of a few of the things mentioned in it. I have realised that instead of embracing this month fully I have been wishing it away ever since it started, just so I can go back to the gym.. We have 2 weeks left and inshalla I will get the most out of them. Thanks again0 -
ur not alone it happens:)0

Bosanka I totally agree with your post, especially the original part about asking Him for help with the weightloss. I was looking at a youTube video the other day that basically stressed the importance of turning to Allah and supplicating to Him for assistance and for overall success. At the end of the day nothing is possible with out His decree.
I plan on continuing with the 30DS, because I made a promise to myself that I would do it the whole month and breaking my promise is not good. But it won't be my big focus, it's only 30mins and I can make that time inshaAllah. But I concur let us put our ibadah in full force the next 14-15 days inshaAllah.0 -
Congratulations on making it half way through Ramadan. Love the posts lets keep up the good work!0

Sis bosanka....alhamdulilah! You make some excellent points, masha'Allah. Jazak'Allahu khairn for the beneficial post.
I came across an article about "tabata interval training" and how it might help during Ramadan. Honestly, I didn't know what tabata was before I read the article. Anyways, I thought I'd share the link with you all. Insh'Allah, you will find it beneficial:

Salam Alaikum my friends,
Iam still here, i am still choosing my foods fighting, indulging, and starting over.....but i am here, i didnt gain anything so far Alhamdulillah so that is the most important thing i hope i wont gain for the next few days, and that will make me happy for this month, and then we will have time to refocus insaALLAH. We can only do so much, Ramadan is a hectic and non-sleeping , non doing nothing the normal way month, but i am just loving it, who knows if next Ramadan i will be here..so i am trying to make the best of the situation.0 -
Dear bosanka ... ALLAH bless you for these noce lines ... you motivated me alot not only in weight lose issue .. but in many other planes for Ramadhan ... Thank you so much :-)0

See...my routine is already out of sorts!
Just catching up on the forum... that is soooo exciting that you lost that much and then your husband will come home to see that! Be super proud and excited!0 -
I'm here too... just lil' busy.. Ramadan is slipping away .. and my " ibadah " goal is more important to be reached than my exercise goal. I can't get both done.. i need some sleep too betw.. prayers and waking up and not sleeping - not much time left for the gym ..
and on top of that have few iftar dinnars at my home- since ramadan started i have neglected my house- so it's messy - and my husband invited a nice number of friends over for 2-3 nights for dinner.. so cleaning is on the list, than cooking , and more cooking, some baking.. and than some more cleaning .. if it wasn't for the reward you get for serving food for the fasting people.....
alhamdulilah, i'm greafull that we are able to make dinners and share with others.. Thank God for all his blessngs.
Btw.. i stummbled across a book store on e bay - and was very pleased with all the nice selection this brother had to offer, prices are very reasonable - and he offers free shipping. I ordered just about 4 days ago or so- and it is allready here- before the time he estimated. Books are brand new, very niceley packaged and fast shipping. Loved the service.
Books - can't wait to start reading them.. i'm sharing this with you out there who are teanagers - or have teanage kids- i was able o actually find some books that are good for them i just looked through them they are very interessting and written in the modern language - for today's youth.. but still based on faith.. it's talking about their every day life struggles- beeing a teanager - and a muslim- in today' s society..
i have picked those books for my kids, beacuse i want them to see all the stuff that's out there... and the consequences for alll the actions they take.
This books mention " cliques" / fashion, drugs, alcohol, trying to fit in, choosing betw.. hijab/ scarf and friends, boys/girls etc.. i just read trhough some of them and even i got interessted in them
I"m recommendig to parents to get some of these books for their daughters/sons- some quality pages for them to read, but also they can get some advice without the sentence " because i say so "
if you are interessted- send me pm- i will share the borthers name and store name for you0 -
I'm seriously bummed today. I was supposed to go to a free zumba thing tonite that a friend of mine was leading. But there is just no possible way for me to zumba right now...my right knee has been in so much pain. I know I mentioned my knee was hurting last week...it started feeling a bit better Sunday and Monday. So, yesterday I decided it was feeling better so I woke up before suhoor and I did some jump rope and then I did my stair-climber-thing....BIG mistake!!!!! I don't think the jumping rope was an issue, but the stair climber...yeah, my knee is VERY angry with me today for that. *sigh* I almost fell trying to get out of bed this morning 'cuz the pain was so bad, subhan'Allah. Insh'Allah, I will go to the doctor tomorrow for it. It truly is very painful. So, I'm bummed because I wanted to go zumba...and I want to exercise more....and right now, just about any quick movement is painful. :frown: My fiance called me this evening and he reminded me that my body has rights over me and that I need to let it heal, whatever it is that is wrong.
Oh...and I've GAINED weight. :noway: My official weigh-in isn't til Friday...but, I decided to check my weight today. I know I've not been exercising nearly as much as I'd like...but I've been keeping my calories under what is suggested. Yet I've gained 3lbs. :sad:0 -
sis Aakifah- i know it's frustrating- but look - i have decided - just for this month i won't allow the scale to be my focus. Just this month- actually - few more days left of it .
But after this- insha Allah we will do it - full power
We are going through so many physical changes during ramadan- starting with the change and lack of sleep- lack of water, eating probl.. 2 larger meals instead of 5 small ones.. not beeing able to workout hard.. etc..
so this all is just not doing us a favor on the scale. And on top of that - for me it's TOM time.. i still ahve to wake up etc to feed the family etc.. many reasons to gain, simple as that. If it was easy for me to lose weight- i woudn't be in this situation. Some sisters say they lose weight during ramadan without even trying just bc they are tired etc.. well i'm not " lucky " like them.. for any ounce less on the scale i have to work hard .. it doesn't " just happen " like for some of them..
I will not obesess about it . Period.
But watch me after this month- you all will get tired of my complaining about the scale )0 -
