Every single night this week I have woken up around 2 am and just laid there for at least an hour, then dosing off and on until my alarm goes off around 5. It's really annoying me because I haven't planned my normal early morning work outs this week at all because I wanted to catch up on sleep and start fresh with my work outs next week (perhaps not working out is part of the issue too?).
Anyway, I'm sure it'll get better but I'm going to stop by the store after work today and get some benadryl to help me out for a few nights, lol.
The Benadryl might just prolong how long it takes your natural sleeping habits to return.
I have insomnia so even though I don't sleep great when I drink regularly when I quit I usually get to look forward to 2 or 3 full nights of zero sleep. It has been a regular excuse to delay stopping. I remember thinking many times that I didn't want to drink that night but I also was not ready for some reason (sometimes a good reason, often not) to be miserable for 3 or 4 days.

Melatonin might work better and its more natural.3 -

I've been dragging my heels on replacing my dying laptop because it keeps making a comeback, but I don't think it's going to this time. Usually when I'd be annoyed by something (like AUTOCORRECT ) OR someone I'd say, it's "driving me to drink." I need a new saying!!!
It just took me 10 min to type that sentence!!! Mostly correcting the auto correct!!!!!!!
BUT I'm HERE for another month for sure.
Lorraine, I use to have a password for one of my websites that was , "I love wine!". After having that password for about 6 months, I noticed that I was drinking more than average. I had to ditch the password. I am a true believer in the words. The words that you tell yourself can become your reality. ... That just gave me a new thought. My next password should be ... "I just won a million dollars!" Take care!
You should avoid any password that has wine, beer, liquor, sex, or profanity in it anyway. Those are as commonly used as children's and pet's name and meaningful dates.2 -
Good morning, everyone! I am feeling thankful to be AF this morning. Ha! Just as I was typing this, my husband came in and showed that we have 2 fraudulent charges to our Visa card. Sometimes the universe seems to say, "Remember you have to take the sour with the sweet.:"
@lorrainequiche59, isn't there a way you can turn off autocorrect? There should be.
@ErynVee, thanks for the reminder about our appearance. Vanity is an extra motivator for me. I don't see a huge difference in my skin, but my eyes definitely look brighter when I don't drink.
@mobuckl, Yay for you! The first day is a major milestone. You can do this.
@MonkeyMel21, When I went AF back in January (the first time . . . this one is the last), I had a horrible time sleeping. I went to a really good natural pharmacy and the pharmacist recommended Karinace PM, which is mostly melatonin. She told me to take one for the first 30 nights (the bottle) and that then my sleep should have regulated itself. It worked beautifully. It was fairly pricey (about $50), but since then, I've only bought one bottle and pop one if I'm having particular difficulty sleeping--not very often.
@anothermfpuser, your question reminded me of something that happened to me years ago. I took my ice skates to an old, old guy for sharpening. I lived in Scotland at the time, so all this happened with a great Scottish accent. When he handed me my sharpened skates, I asked him how long the sharpening would last. With indignation, and in that awesome accent, he asked, "I dunno. How long does a bottle of vodka last?"
@SpanishFusion, I agree with you about the power of words. Every year I change my password on my business email to something positive ("Selfcare," for example). It gives me a year of indoctrination every time I log on.
Have a great day! I'll go call the bank.7 -

Melatonin works. So does taking magnesium in the evening. Be warned though that some people find that magnesium can have a mild laxative effect the next day.

If anyone needs vanity motivation to cut back or abstain, this should do the trick. 3.21 minutes long.

@Orphia, wonderful, wonderful post! Thank you for all that research and effort.
Thanks must go to @NovusDies for compiling it all, to @RubyRed427 , and to all our participants for contributing their insights.

Well done everyone
This month let’s hear your success stories, whether it’s one day AF or hitting that goal of just two drinks, whatever it is let’s hear it.

Well said, Andy!! How are you going?
The other day, my Nomo app told me I'd been alcohol-free 6 months.
Not drinking somehow turned into not thinking so hard about my drinking and I'd forgotten about my milestone.7 -
I am in to reduce my consumption. Like others, I indulge daily so there is plenty of room for improvement. I know the benefits of not drinking. Hoping moderation in August will lead to an AF September. So, for now, my August goal will be to limit drinking to Friday and Saturday only. Wish me luck16

Best wishes for a great month!2 -
This is day 14 of being AF, and I feel so much better. I have tried to go AF before, but I couldn't do it alone. The inspiration and motivation that I get from reading everyone's posts has given me the support that I needed to successfully begin this journey.
I am a teacher, and when school begins in a few weeks, I hope that I will have broken my daily drinking habit and established a new and healthier evening routine.
I am looking forward to day 15.11 -

This is my next one day at a time. I am now outside my start-to-drink window which will put this day down as alcohol free. I didn't really think about drinking today other than posting here and that was all past tense. I think I am still happier without any longer term goal. If I can come up with a good enough reason to drink tomorrow I will but chances are I won't think about it enough to consider a reason.8 -
Thank you @JenT304 for that video!
Whether it is 5 drinks a week and you can handle it or a ton and you can't, it is still a poison to every cell in your body. I learned this in A & P science from a professor, PhD, who taught the class.4 -
@donimpf Yes there is a way to turn autocorrect off apparently. I don't know how to tho. Any helpful hints from the techies out there? I bought a new laptop today & spent more than I was hoping to, but am excited to get it set up. And YES, I need help with that too...LOL. a friend is helping me this weekend.
@JenT304 that is one scary video. I usually drank more than 5 drinks a week. Sometimes 5 a day!!! Eeeek!!! SO glad I stopped. Howz the intermittent fasting going?2 -
Really loving all the comments. It's hard to keep caught up with y'all ♡●♡●♡3

Happy Friday
So I’m 3 weeks AF
I believe I’m done,
I can see some people counting every day at the 6 month anniversary, I don’t miss it I don’t want it.
I might have a lapse, I might not.
Either way, I found this group and this group helped me.
I think writing down how we feel or what we have done really helps.
I’m going to stay in the group, read, press like sometimes and occasionally comment, I hope my tiny bit of support helps all of you get that bit closer to your goal.

My husband had guys cigar and bourbon night at the house tonight (ironic since he doesn’t drink but it was a donated event from a school fundraiser). I took the kids to a movie and we went to a Fork and Screen. Not only did I not even open the alcohol menu (in the past being able to order a glass of wine at the movie felt like such a cool novelty I always went for it) and ordered a large caffeine free soda instead, when I got home the guys night was going strong and they asked if I wanted to join them for a night cap but I didn’t even feel tempted - put the kids to bed, made a tea and did the dishes from the event. Another night AF that didn’t feel like a struggle...
This weekend we are going to visit my family and celebrating some birthdays, I will probably partake a little bit but it will be low key.
Welcome again to all the new members and continued best wishes for all the familiar faces!12
