3 miles easy. Possible turning point for me here. I have been pushing mileage hard and hyper focused on such but although I might have tried for a longer run today, I'm accepting of running less and getting my rest. I think the strength training is making sleep and rest more important. What should be interesting to measure is the effect on performance. I'm training for a 5k and I am keeping to the training. Will all these changes in approach lead to a faster race???

August goal: 75 miles
8/1: 4.5 miles
8/2: 5 miles
8/5: 6.5 miles
8/7: 4.3 miles
8/8: 4.6 miles
8/9: 5 miles
29.9/75 miles
I ran 5 miles this morning. All in all it was a nice run. The temperature was ~73F which should have been nice, but it was pretty humid and the air felt thick and uncomfortable starting out. I thought it was going to be a pretty tough run as I started out, but I was able to get into the zone pretty quickly and enjoyed the run. I did see a snake this morning. He was right downtown and a cat had him cornered in the doorway of a furniture store. I think the cat may have already killed him because he was not moving when I passed him.

Thanks! I finally got my mileage back up to 40 miles per week. I had to back off earlier this year due to an ankle/foot issue. It feels good to have my mileage back to where it was even if my pace is slower.
The only drawback is that a small army of third world children have moved into the bottomless black hole that has become my stomach. A coffee shop AND new taco place have moved next door to my office (current status: eating delicious tacos). I am doomed....9 -

Sounds like efficiency at its best. Kudos to you!
Did a quick 2-mile run this morning. Would have done 4 but we are being audited (at work) and I decided it would be a good idea to get here on time. Curses.
June goal - 44 miles - done
July goal - 52 miles - done
August goal - 57 miles
Next race: Sept. 30 - Wineglass, Corning9 -

As long as it is not flavor-aid you will be fine.
And now I am going to go join the Gym Jones gym in Utah...10 -

I'll try (not a new runner, just new to this challenge). I'll aim for 115km (not miles!)
only 29km logged so far this month.
Hmm...not looking good on this one already. This week was less aggressive due to a race on Saturday plus I have a weird thing with my foot that hurts, so debating if I should skip tomorrow pre-race easy run (and then how long a break after the race for it to "heal"). The month is going by too fast!

Good news! I’m 7 miles down out of 25 for August. I’ve also lost 6 lbs since I started this lifestyle change August 1st. I have to say I’m feeling better than I have in years. Bad news- a dog came after me yesterday and bit my arm. Not bad, didn’t break skin, but left a bruise. The dog was huge and could have hurt me bad, but the owner called him and he backed off. Thinking I might be using the treadmill for a while and stay off the trail for a while.15

Hot and humid outside so I ran on the treadmill at the gym today. It went better than Sunday’s run - apparently I do better listening to podcasts than to music.7 -
@eponine1984 I prefer podcasts now. I try to listen to music on my speed work days but I just automatically turn on a podcast.1

August Running Totals (miles)
8/1 – 2.97 IEXC 5K #1
8/2 – 7.28 MP and easy
8/3 – rest day
8/4 – 16.01 paced run
8/5 – 6.28 easy with fast finish
8/6 – rest day
8/7 – 5.35 warmup, soft tempo run
8/8 – 3.99 warmup + IEXC 5K #2
August running total to date – 41.88
Nominal August mileage goal: 180 miles
Real goals: Avoid injury. Continue to build base and train toward Oak Tree Half and Wineglass Marathon.
Today's Yesterday's notes – Second race in the IEXC series. Got there at 4:30, and Coach told me to go mark the first mile of the course. Did that, and a more experienced guy had to come fix my mistakes. Oops. At least it did get marked right.
I got a mile of warmup for the last port-a-pot dash plus part of fixing the course markings. Then I thought to pull out my phone and take some pictures of the kid's races. I got a shot of the 5 and under 50m race, the start of the 800m, and one decent shot of a kid running with an adult (presumably the father) coming out of the very short trail section. Didn't get any pictures of the kid's 400m or mile races, but you get the idea:
The trails portion of the 5K race had some prettier terrain, but I left my phone in the car and raced that route. As last week, the real race was about the first mile, to the top of the grassy hill; after that point, one young guy chased me down and I wasn't able to catch anyone.
Bigger, tougher field this week. I think I finished 10th or 11th, but results aren't online yet as I write this. Garmin had me at 22:11, compared to Garmin's 22:16 last week (official 22:17 last week), so I can't complain about performing worse. There were just more people there, and more people who were better than me there. Distance was consistently short of 5K; 2.98 miles per Garmin this week, compared to 2.97 last week.
I did win my age group, which was to be expected given the lack of competition. Slim pickings for age group awards in a low budget race. Could have taken a mug that matches the one I got last week, but opted for a pair of throwaway gloves for a future marathon.
Lots of fun, a little cooler than a week ago, and still ridiculously humid. Hopefully all this training in humid weather will mean I'm in reasonable shape for warm humid weather at Oak Tree.

OK, All - I plan to leave tomorrow (will not be running tonight) and not return until late 8/20. I'll plan to run while out, but will be in the wilderness without a computer or signal (I need my computer to update the ticker anyway, I think).
I'll just add in all my miles when I get back.9 -
8/1: 1.52 miles
8/2: 2.16 miles
8/3: 1.49 miles
8/4: 1.49 miles
8/5: Rest (although arguably not a real rest day since I deep cleaned the apartment and burned 766 calories doing it!)
8/6: 2.75
8/7: 3.22 miles
8/8: 2.70 miles
Total: 15.33 miles
Goal: 50 miles
It's super difficult to get a workout regimen going with full-time school and work, but at the same time... I feel so much better after I'm done each time and end each walk/run with yoga if it's not too late in the evening. So far what I've been doing is going on walks either during my break at school or at work and then pounding some more pavement later (more like treadmill since I'm normally not home until 9 - 9:30pm M-F and don't want to go for a walk/run that late alone). I'm considering trying to wake up earlier before work to do my longer walk/run and then when I got home just do yoga versus doing both because it'll mean my bum being in bed earlier. I'll see how that works out for me starting next week! However, if anyone has any tips, I'm here to listen!8 -

I know that it was just a little 5 mile "test drive" this morning, but I may have found my new favorite road running shoe. This Xero Prio is a sweet shoe. I took out the removable insole and went sockless to maximize the "bare foot" experience and the "ground feel" on these was excellent. I especially loved the way I can cinch up the shoe around the heel and/or mid-foot if I want without cramping the wide comfy toe box. My feet were loving it. Tomorrow is a rest day, but I can't wait to see how they do on Saturday's long run of 24 miles. Sometimes I think I love running just for the shoes... lol.
The whole barefoot mystique would make you feel pretty badarse.

Just have to figure out what works best for you ma'am. For me running/lifting before work is best because by the time I get off and home I just don't feel it...4 -
Hi - First time posting on this thread. I don't really have any goals - just to run as much as I can.
August Running
Sun 8/5 : 75min Run at Park 5+ miles
Tue 8/7: 20min Run at Y 1+ miles
Thu 8/9: 50min Run at Y 4 miles
Total : 3 Runs : 145 minutes : 10+ miles

Prior to going back to school, I used to run and do yoga before work and would feel so awesome. It is why I'm thinking about returning back to that habit, but it's so ridiculously tough when I have to be at work by 7:30am versus 8:30am prior to my school schedule. I'm convinced I'm doomed until graduation #DMS #Sonographystudent #Medicineforthewin #Whhhhhy?!

I'm in the same boat. School is starting back up in a few weeks and while my semester load isn't as heavy this year, I've been elected president of a philanthropic club which will take up a lot of time. I'm already telling myself that I'll have to cut back on my already meager mileage for September which makes me anxious because I love how I feel when I'm walking up my steps to my apt after my run.

Well, today has been a little bit of a mess, but I got a nice, slow run in this AM, so there you are! I had a difficult time getting to sleep last night between my brain being weird, my husband snoring, and the dogs invading my space - SO has been wanting them upstairs with us more since Bowie got sick, which I get, but does hurt the sleeping sometimes. Then around 1:30 I heard Bowie jump off the bed and a part of me said “he has to go” and another part said “no, he just wants a drink” and a third part said “while you’ve been lying here he probably peed on the bookshelf” and it turns out the third part was right!
So I let him out, cleaned things up, then made a snack and read for a couple of hours. Woke up late this AM but I put on my running clothes and they did their magic. It was pretty humid but I just stuck to a steady pace and it actually felt good. I wish I could go back a month or so and tell myself to chill out and slow down and just enjoy the run. Ah well.
I've got this week off between projects on my day job so I'm focusing on my side gig and catching up on housework, which today meant I sat in bed until 1 PM reading and snacking (only 400 calories left for dinner, oops) and then took a three hour nap. I'm up now though, and I cleaned the bedroom, and my day job sent me materials to read over the weekend for training on Monday, so all is good.
