It rained this morning, which felt really good. Humid as all heck still, but oh that rain! Combined with an impressive light show to the north as an electrical storm made its way by, this morning's run was pretty cool!
And now it's almost time for bed...I have the alarm set for 1am for tomorrow's long run. Methinks work is going to be sleepy fun by the afternoon.

Been eating moose steaks and roast from time to time recently. neighbor went hunting in Newfoundland and as part of the package they butchered and shipped it to him. YUMMY!0 -
5 miles on the Greenline in my new shoes - no blisters which is a near miracle for me, I almost always have bandaids all over my feet the first few outings.
It was supposed to storm but then didn't, so we had nice overcast weather, although the humidity was high. We also saw a hawk catch a squirrel and take it back to his family!
@AlphaHowls When I was caretaker for my father I felt like I didn't have two neurons to knock together, much less time and energy to run. You're amazing.4 -

Some cool stuff going on!
Me, I'm sitting here icing my ankle.
Working in a hospital is great, i have used a compression bandage to wrap around the ice pack (wrapped in a towel) to keep it firmly in place while i sit at my desk. Saves me having to hold my leg in a awkward position. It's feeling much better today, still a little painful but not like yesterday so I'm confident I'll be back into it Monday, but I'll be good, no more pushing limits.its been fun but not what I'm here for. I'm going for distance not speed, and it will come slowly. I've got 2.5 weeks before I start my proper training plan and I'd rather be gentle for that time and be able to do the plan than get a worse injury and not be able to complete!
And I'm being extra good, no walk today. Actually resting. It does mean no long run this weekend. Sigh12 -

August running total to date – 51.92
Nominal August mileage goal: 180 miles
Real goals: Avoid injury. Continue to build base and train toward Oak Tree Half and Wineglass Marathon.
Today's notes – Did light speed work Tuesday, and raced yesterday. Today I had no intention of attempting the workout on the marathon training plan. I wanted to run 8 to 10 easy miles, and I like the scenery available from where the club is practicing this season.
So I went off to club practice, which is lightly attended on Thursdays. Saw 2 other people gearing up for a warmup as I pulled in. Hit the rest room, and they were gone. Made a snap decision; I'd just do a mostly continual run with one stop for a long traffic light, then get back when practice was almost done.
It felt great, probably because the dew point was down around 63º F. Temperature was 81º F, similar to what it's been for evening running lately, but the humidity was much less oppressive than it's been. Strung together some bits and pieces of trails from the group runs, connected by some short road and sidewalk sections and a bit of the Erie Canal path. Came in at an average pace of 7:58, right around where I wanted it.
I felt like I could have run another 2 miles, but I didn't. I want to end a run like this feeling like I have a couple more miles in the tank.
Rest day tomorrow, and I'm pacing 17 miles on Saturday. The plan is, if Saturday goes well tack on 3 solo miles for my first 20 mile day since Boston. I'm really winging it with training, but I'm beginning to feel like I'll be able to run Wineglass in decent shape as long as the weather isn't extreme.

No run today. I ended up working 2 hours over and then had to run some errands. It stormed, and I am in a funk anyway. Hopefully tomorrow will work out. I have a long run Saturday morning regardless.6

Well, that was not too pretty, but completed the Tromptown Half Marathon tonight as my long run of the week. The race started at 5:45 pm and was very small and low key. The course was through a lot of farm country and around a lake that has a lot of lake houses and boating. My friend and I fell to the very back of the pack immediately and figured that was our lot in this race, as the sweepers. But we did end up catching a few people.
The weather was decent, about 80 degrees, but dew point still at 63. It felt better than it has though, especially as the sun started going down. The course was rolling hills, but felt like uphill the whole way. I hated the first 6 or 7 miles, then got into a better rhythm (more like just accepted that this thing would actually end, I might as well get it over with).
99 runners finished the race, and I was #95. I did actually place 3rd in my age group - because there were only 3! Way off any kind of best time for me, but as a long run that I didn't plan for until this morning and was already tired going into, I'll call it successful - in that it's done. Watermelon at the end and then there was a little county fair thing going on right at the finish.

Short run this morning thanks to nature calling. I hate when that happens and it's why I prefer evenings. Meant to do a few more km tonight but it's 10pm and still 29C/84F. So nope.
Planning on a shortie tomorrow morning and then 10-12 miles Saturday. Maybe on non-technical trails. 10 days until race day. Supposed to be fall weather but this many days out anything can happen. Last year when I did the 5K it was perfect. Even though my training has been a bit more haphazard than I would like, I think I'm in a good position to drop 10 minutes off my half marathon time since there are no hills. Fingers crossed anyway!10 -
Yay... I'm on track to complete 20km for this month! I'm up to 9km so far9

Rest day yesterday and no run today again unfortunately. We spent the entire day (about 6 hours) at the car dealer working through the process of buying a new car. There is a reason we don't do that very ofter - my old car is almost 20 years old - yikes! My trainer was nice enough to move our session until 8pm so I go that in at least. Hoping to run tomorrow morning if the air quality is better than it was today. With the fires we are have air quality health warnings. Essentially stay inside unless you have a reason to be out. Running is probably not considered a good reason to be out and breathing in ash particulate. Today there was so much smoke and ash the sky was dark and looked honestly like it was overcast and might rain - other than the tinges of red and black!8

@shanaber- summer fire season is in full swing. Today was actually the first time I could smell the smoke. My car has been covered in ash since Monday night but the smell did hit me till this morning. Definitely not a fan of the dark skies. Yesterday’s was actually pretty with the smoke covering the sun, turned everything orange. Hopefully they get this fire contained soon.1

Short(er) run this morning, 4.5k in the sack but again wind in my face and that hill wants to kill me lol. Have to say this was the third time I tried to run up it this week and I did get further up before having to resort to the run 100 steps, walk 100 steps method for the last bit. Had to then make a conscious effort to slow myself down coming back downhill with the wind behind me :-)
Rest day tomorrow (or swimming instead of running at least) then Sunday will be my last 5k run at that hill before we leave for home. Tuesday's planned 7k along the nice flat seafront is going to feel like a walk in the park!
2/8: 5km
3/8: 5km
5/8: 4.5km
7/8: 6.5km
9/8: 5km
10/8: 4.5km
August goal: 97km, completed: 30.5km6 -

Its been a messy month so far for my running. My ankles and back have been hurting after every run this past few weeks so that means time for new runners. I've order a pair of Brooks Adrenaline 18 and they are to arrive Monday or Tuesday. Also lots of family visiting and with working from home it's a bit chaotic. Ah well that's August.
On the spouse/SO - While I'm not putting up enough mile at the moment my husband is and has been supportive of me running. He knows how much better I feel when I run regular. Even yesterday I was working in morning, planned to run at 11.30/12noon as we had an appointment at 2pm and would be out for rest of day. As usual I ran over on work and was short on time for run, but he was like" Come, go get your run, we still have time", and sure enough we did.

I've been out of town and haven't read/posted for a week. I tried to read everything but gave up! So here's my update, and I'll try to keep caught up from here!
Hello to the 100-mile club!
Saturday: 23k long run. To steal @PastorVincent 's phrase, "The sun tried to kill me." No complaints though!
Sunday: rest and lots of food & work meetings
Monday: 6.6k seriously hilly tourist route run, plus working a morning soccer camp, then a 2200-meter afternoon open water swim with my coworker who was wearing flippers. I was barefoot and working to keep up.
Tuesday: 7.2k countryside/orchard route run, soccer camp, then afternoon fun on a floating obstacle course (really tough and awesomely fun), and a repeat of Monday's swim. It took us about an hour and seemed like a lot of swimming but felt good!
Wednesday: 3.2k run because after realizing that the church next door wasn't blasting us with bells and mass over a loudspeaker, I decided to sleep longer. Afternoon swim was a little longer but we didn't really stop for breaks and the GPS track looks like a straight line and stats claim we were slower. We definitely weren't, there were actual waves this time, and afterwards we both laid down on our beach blanket and fell asleep. I woke up when I got hit in the head by a soccer ball.
Thursday: 8.1k river/orchard run, then more running as assistant coach on tournament day, then packing everything up with sore arms from all the swimming
Today: home and "recovery" day, in quotes because I'm still working, just on different projects.
Takeaways are that my coworker and I want to find a good nearby place to swim, it was hot this week, and soccer camps are fun but lots of work.
Upcoming races:
August 18 Chmielakowy Half Marathon (Krasnystaw)
August 26 Kolbudy 10k, Bąkowo (Kashubia)8 -

7 slow and brutal miles this morning. Temp was 81F, and humidity was 89%! Felt like the last 7 miles of a marathon (guessing - having never run a full marathon, I'm sure it really would be 10x harder). Just felt like I was running in soup. And the only breeze was what I was creating. I'm sure waking up at 1a.m. (probably thinking of you @garygse) and not being able to go back to sleep played a part in it too. Ah well, at least I was out there.

Gave am running a chance. I got out the door a half our later than scheduled, curse my comfy bed and favorite sheets. If I run again in the morning, I will have to stretch first. My muscles were not ready, and protested with shouts of "this doesn't feel like yoga!!" for most of my run. I did have a moment of awesome when I was thinking to myself 'yeah, that hill that has given me hell all summer wasn't too bad', and then I realized...'*kitten*, I turned too soon. That was the mini hill.' Sigh. Recalculating....I doubled back and did the hill. And it gave me the hell I expected. It's interesting how different morning running felt. I've only run am for races and always chalked the tightness and unease up to nerves/anxiety. Nice little shock to the system to get the day started. The humidity and temp were both low....made for pleasant conditions. I'll probably run tonight as well to try and catch up on some missed mileage.

Upcoming Races:
10/? 2 mile RACC Inauguration Celebration Run *maybe*
10/28 Fitzy's Run 5k
12/8 West Reading Run Santa Run 5k
**it irks me that we can only edit posts for an hour. My phone auto corrected bourbon to bourban and now it's there forever. Mocking me.2 -
So race morning looks great... (the last col is humidity)

Didn't run yesterday as planned, since I had my big test to get into a grad school program. I meant to run today...but it didn't happen. I think all the stress of preparing for my test just showed up in an extreme need for sleep. So I slept. I may try to get in a run tonight if it isn't too muggy, since tomorrow morning I'll have lots going on.
I think I need to start shopping for a fall race or two to get me motivated!9 -
@katharmonic Nice job! You finished and that's what matters. It's not easy to run in the heat and humidity. Throw in those hills and it becomes a challenge for sure. Congrats on placing in your age group too!

@shanaber That is why I keep DH around. The perks of a car salesman... he gets everything ready, I show up and sign. Then drive away in a new car. LOL
Our air has been so bad, like worse than I remember in a while. I wonder if it's from the fire? Everything California seems to end up here.5 -
