I may end up doing this.
I have a collection of fridge magnets, but I'm thinking I could put them on a relatively small magnetic board which I could lean somewhere, and that might free the fridge up for bicycle greeting cards.

Pip: You are a champion! I can't imagine squeaking through a place that tight. Yikes!
Barbara the Southern Oregon Coastie: I love the photos you shared of hacking away the vines and plants that were choking the path to your cistern. It looks like a gorgeous rainforest to me, beautiful and also a lot of work to maintain.
I got through to the phone provider and they have managed to solve the technical problems that were plaguing them and me. I hope never to post the same message over and over again. My phone can't do what my computer can do. :noway:
My riding lesson yesterday was lovely, and I have hopes that I'll be able to get a couple of lessons a month in the future. Deep inside, I hope there is a trail ride in the future, too. My trail-riding friend has a lame horse and will not be riding for several months. Her horse has laminitis. Wendy, I'd love to hear anything you might share so that I understand her situation better. :flowerforyou:
I went to yoga today and enjoyed the class as always. It is one of the best things I do for my own health. I enjoy the workout before hand, the yoga class, and the lovely people in the class with me.

Allie, we're with you. I hope it all works out well and I also think the stress is not worth it. I have given up money and things just so I am not in a huge fight over it. I don't want stuff like that to steal my joy, energy and health. We got nothing when my hubby's father passed. My conniving SIL got the lot of antiques etc, but I don't care. I have so much more-my horses, for one thing!

I notice that too Wendy about not noticing. I was thinking the other day I need to update my wall decorations and photos. I like the idea of buying the postcards instead of the art, I never would have thought of that.
I was buying bicycle ornaments ... and I've got something in the neighbourhood of 50-ish of them, but we were moving relatively frequently, and packing them up and putting them into storage, etc. was starting to become a pain, so as much as I'd like to buy more bicycle ornaments, I try to resist.
Instead, now I go for greeting cards, postcards, etc. ... they're much easier to pack!

Did 5 minutes of hula hooping, held my plank for 3 min, then took the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a downloadable spinning workout.
Another thought about shopping: As I’ve mentioned, I love to shop. Especially looking for bargains. I went with this one gal from Newcomers, she said she always gets worried because she stops and looks and she worries that the person she’s with gets frustrated. But when she saw me stopping and looking, she said “that’s how I like to shop”. You never know what you’ll find. The big difference between us is that I tend to like things (if I can) that *I* made – like the ceramics or some crafts. She tends to like to buy things. I’ll buy, but they most likely are from a thrift store. Not her!
Vince is getting more and more disillusioned with Newcomers. Now he can’t get into the website! He’s talking about saying how he’s not interested in continuing as treasurer. I tell you, they’ll have a hard time finding a treasurer who did as good a job as he did. Well, finances and computers were his career. I told him that if he is no longer interested in Treasurer then I’m no longer interested in hospitality or membership. Actually, it looks like my admin capabilities (being able to add/change/delete people from the website) are gone. I’m sure the reason is the guy who is doing the website basically screwed up. That’s probably why Vince can’t get into the website. I’m just going to wait until we get a new member then say something like “I have an application here and when I went to add them to the website, I found that I no longer have admin privileges. How are they being added now?”. The president and another gal really want people to be added asap. They aren’t going to like this one bit. Oh well…..maybe it’ll help get the message that we really need someone else (a professional) to help doing this. They wouldn’t take his job away from him, they’d just be there to basically support him. But they don’t want to pay, but they are willing to pay for things like card shufflers. I do have to admit that the website is a bit more important than worrying about card shufflers. If our website doesn’t work, what kind of message is that being sent to prospective members? But, then again, I’m not on the board. Vince is and that is the way he feels.
There is this cat that has come up here a couple of times. No collar, but you can tell it’s someone’s pet. It’s very loving, looks well groomed. It’ll let me pick it up. Well, yesterday Vince looked at the screen on the screened-in porch and said “what the heck is that”. There are these holes in the screen. We’re thinking that this cat climbed up the screen. It has sharp nails, it’s not declawed. We don’t know the owner to say something to them. As Vince said “ANOTHER job for me to do – replace those screens”
Exercised, stopped at the Salvation Army (the glasses I bought were too large, I want 8oz and these are 16oz, but they look like 8oz), then Aldi, then the post office then bowling. Bought some essential lavender oil but I’ll return it next week since it was cheaper on Amazon. Had dinner, then ceramics, then mahjongg.
Jess left today to go see a friend of hers in TN. She should be home Wed. night. Guess who is taking care of her cat? Well, we’re already in the swing, so it’s really no big deal.

Well, the day went as planned. Took myself out to lunch, got a Turkish salad with fries, which I ate half of, then ate the other half for dinner. Took Jock and Honey for a walk and admired gardens. Did some shopping, hit a couple opshops and got a few things for my photoshoots and a very fancy "Going To The Races" hat and a pair of black gloves for in-hand showing. Then got home in time to load the horses on the float and head down to the beach with my student. Had an awesome fun gallop at the beach. Took Esme this time and she did fabulous. We are planning to enter her in a show, the first weekend in September. It started to rain on us, as we were finishing our ride and it has really set in now. Might be an inside day tomorrow. I am ready for bed! Wendy2

Winter doesn't want to let go.
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS OVER TASMANIA TUESDAY EVENING AND WEDNESDAY.
Weather Situation: A vigorous cold front will cross Tasmania early on Wednesday, with northwesterly winds strengthening during Tuesday ahead of it. Winds remain very strong and gusty behind the front until decreasing Wednesday evening.
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h are likely from TUESDAY about southern, eastern and central Tasmania in the evening, increasing further overnight.
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 110 to 120 km/h are likely from early morning WEDNESDAY. Isolated wind gusts exceeding 120 km/h are possible about elevated areas, and in thunderstorms about the north and west coasts.
Winds are expected to ease Wednesday evening.
Note that saturated soils in northern and western Tasmania may make trees more susceptible to falling in strong winds.
Elsewhere they indicate the strongest gusts will occur at about 5 am. So ... I'll have to see how the roads are before I head off to work in the morning.
Also definitely not a skirt day.

Morning, afternoon, evening, all...
The drive down from Oklahoma was hair-raising, as it peed down rain from Lawton, OK, all the way to Sweetwater, TX. And I was on a number of two-lane country roads in a land where it seldom rains, and the roads aren't built to handle it, so it was kind of just trying to keep my little Terrain on the road, as I skipped like a stone from one puddle to the next. Very clutchy on the steering wheel kind of morning, for about four hours straight. Finally cleared up just before I got to my destination.
So today is Day 3 of the trip (I think it's Tuesday! ) One of the only fairly simple days in these two weeks. But, already packing up with requests for teleconferences, etc. That's OK, there are worse things. Hopefully some time to breathe and actually work on grants that are due end of month.
The cocktail party was not exactly my scene, but bearable. Got a chance to see the boss before she goes, and should see her Wednesday, as well, in El Paso. It's all good.
I have been reading, but not commenting much, as they're in and out of my head before I can hold onto them. Apparently, there's only so much space up there!
Allie, glad you have some breathing space. Sell that sucker and get it off your plate! You can do it! And glad that you're making sure you're leaving your kids in better shape than your dad left you.
Rori, love the tile!
More emails to catch up on, love y'all.

Rather be here than on FB; which I 'deactivated' and took the short-cut icon off my laptop. I've never had the short-cut icon on my desktop. But, I'm so totally lost now about what all you have been doing. But, a few days of keeping up with the postings should bring that relief to me.

Wendy: I'd like to hear updates on Duck Duck Go to learn whether you're still happy with it. :flowerforyou:
Michele: For a long time you seemed to enjoy Newcomers very much, but not any more. Have you and Vince discussed leaving the group? Are there people that you would miss, or would they continue as personal friends? Just wondering. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I hope you weather the storm well. We are in late summer mode, and there is smoke in the air from fires in BC and elsewhere. :ohwell: It looks like light fog outside, but it is actually smoke from the fires.
Lenora: It is good to see you posting again. Yay!!! I stop into facebook once in awhile, but not often. I stop in here daily and value every minute. This is an amazing group. :flowerforyou:
I have a city planning meeting this evening. We're reviewing plans for a new apartment complex. The plans look good to me. There is a housing shortage here and this project will help fill a need for homes.

I officially am at a 20 lb loss this morning, it has been slow coming but I'm hoping that the change I have made are more sustainable this time around.
It looks and feels like a Fall day today, it is dark now when I go to bed again. This summer seems to have flown by and the Winter's always seem so long.
Haven't got too much else to say, hi to everyone!
Tracey in Edmonton8 -
Katla, there are fires all around us and we have smoke in the air. The sun is bright orange. Jake cautioned me about walking with all the smoke this morning but I don't have breathing problems and wasn't out too long or exerting myself too much.
Lenora, I am totally finished with Facebook. I love coming here. Everyone is supportive and friendly and if someone doesn't agree with someone there are no criticisms or harsh words. I hope you'll keep coming back every day.
Today I go to the physical therapist for evaluation. Appointment is at 9:15 AM.
Jake vacuumed this morning while I walked the dogs. I know it's hard on him and I am very grateful for his effort.

Made it to 5 pound loss for the summer and back to work Thursday. Fingers crossed I don't gain back over this fall and lose some more for cruise in November.2

Hi all,
Went for my run after lunch today. I found it hard going, but I managed it. I had done my exercises in the morning, minus 100 calories. I listened to The First Cut is the Deepest, and There is a Light that Never Goes Out.
This morning I downloaded a new decluttering book onto my Kindle, but before reading it I decided to put its message into practice and grabbed a big box of old workshop material for writing, performance and self development. A very emotional read. I kept old programmes in which I appear and old promotional material. One or two aide memoirs of the actual content of the workshops, but not much.
My life has changed so much I find it amazing that I used to be such an entrepreneurial "guru".  I never was entirely comfortable with that persona, but I must have been good at it. I was glad to shed it though. I could talk the talk, but I'm not sure I felt I was always walking the walk. Now it's nice just being me.
DH is a bit uncomfortable when I talk about those days. He's not keen on me talking about my past at all. He likes to live in the here and now.
When I went out running DH went to get his hair cut. He also dropped all my discarded paper off at the dump, along with an old standard lamp. Then he took the summer clothes I had sorted out yesterday to the charity shop. Progress! I still have many boxes of papers, but they are much more sorted and winnowed. When I have finished I will take a photo of the remaining pile. It has reduced by at least two thirds.
Now I'm going to do my Swedish and read my new book.

Hi ladies,
Rebecca, toot all you want. Well done!
Pip, love the picture and the great smiles.
5lambert, slow and steady won the race. You go girl!
Barbie, good luck at the physical therapist.
Lenora, I never did Facebook and never missed it. Don’t trust it either.
Nothing really planned for today. Tired and slept in.
Hope everyone has a great day.

HI ladies...wow, I found out if I dont come back on here daily, I miss sooo much! You ladies are active and busy!
SO down a pound this week so far...waited 3 days to make sure it was an actual pound and not water weight. Back on the working out schedule and feeling great! Now if I could only stop having those few glasses of white wine at night, things would be even better 8(
SO went for my follow up visit last Friday at my General Dr. bloodwork looks great all except for 1 thing...my bloodwork is showing possible cardiac problems. We think it might be due to chemo when I was 15 and it took a toll on the heart..but not 100% sure...I had various tests done and nothing else showing up that would match up with this...
SO just stepping up my cardio and keeping my heart strong...living by the Grace of God...
Our son broke his wrist last week so dealing with that (perm. cast tomorrow) it's also the 1 yr anniversary of the death of one of our best friends (died way too early) tomorrow...so that will be sad...but we plan on telling stories about him and remembering all the great times we had with him...
All the wildfires and flooding are horrible out there...hope everyone is safe!
Hope everyone has a blessed day!5 -
Machka: Stay safe in the storms. :flowerforyou:
Lenora: This seems like a "jump in and swim" time for you. If you stop by often, you're bound to catch up. It is good to see you posting here again.
We have smokey skies all the way to the surface of the river today. It is not a day to be outside, so far. I think about our Canadian neighbors in BC. Fires two years in a row seems so unfair.

Today is attack my house day. Dusting, vacuuming, so just waiting until son gets up for a appointment to start.
Last night wasn't so bad tummy wise. I had my 64 oz Crystal Light lemonade around me, while I was making the sausage gravy, and took long sips! Slowed down the sipping after 5pm, so I wouldn't be peeing all night! So this morning I'm 235 lbs. On the 8th I was 239 so I am feeling confident.
Today is yogurt, some walnuts and coffee. Lunch is my pinto beans and wild rice soup. Dinner is a serving of my Asian bagged salad and 4 jumbo shrimp. Snack is a Tbsp of my walnuts in the freezer, 10 pickled cucumbers and more coffee.
Am I being too over specific? Sometimes I think I get too overly focused on the amounts but how is my body going to learn if I don't weigh and measure every little thing?
I had made fettuccine for a meal with chicken fried cube steak, for husband the other day. I have come to the conclusion that a serving of 2 oz cooked pasta just isn't worth it for any upcoming meals. I would rather have something else carb wise. Its nice seeing all my veggies get eaten (by me). You know last week I ate a whole head of cabbage?? That's crazy! This week I'm starting on my second long seedless cucumber.
My complexion is better, and after my long bath the other day, (I hadn't taken a bath since before my parathyroid procedure), my skin all over is better! I laid in the tub and rubbed my skin, shedding like a snake! That might when husband and I were pillow talking he said my hair smelled nice. Well ain't that the sweetest thing!
Do many of you eat the same thing for breakfast? I seem to be on this certain yogurt and though its a comfort, I am just afraid I shall burn out on the taste of it. Its vanilla, so I can dress it up a multitude of ways I suppose. Its the knowing if you eat specific foods you are guaranteed a good logging day. That's the comfort. I am finally realizing that my days of eating what I used to call diet foid, is really just food that makes me feel good.
Have a nice day all!

Flooding in the East, Fires in the West, and Dust Storms in the SW.....So sad!
I have been a blonde for the last 3 yrs and dyed my hair back to a more natural light ash brown today. It's going to be difficult getting used to and I dread the white roots showing. But, my DH likes it! This is an old photo but is about what it looks like now.

Made it to Capetown after a long restless flight 2 a.m—11:45. Didnt eat a bit on the plane but just couldn’t get to sleep once we arrived at the airport people were incredibly friendly, the hotel sped up and even upgraded our room because they didn’t have a non smoking room available—-score!! We have a nice view of the ocean (cloudy pic here but the ocean is in the distance and a very. Ice balcony to sit out and ....a fancy schmancy nesoresso machine so that is how I’ve been able to keep going, once we caught our breath we visited the waterfront area (which reminds me just a bit of San Francisco, very low key but filled with people enjoying being outdoors). yes it is winter here but 17 c feels fabulous after 32c or 110 Fahrenheit. Right now DH is snoozing away with a late nap and I worked out at the gym—don’t want to fall asleep early and get all jet laggy. Tomorrow we tour some townships and a penguin beach, will try to post good pics.

Hi - found your post. Perfect for me - just hit the big 50 in June. I am getting back into MFP as I have my oldest daughter's wedding less than a year away! 49 weeks to be exact. It will be a summer wedding outside so I need to look great in a summer dress (: I have three kids - my youngest - my boy just finished high school. Not empty nester yet - he will live at home for a bit. But I had to get myself a dog - I have a 6 month old chocolate lab who is helping me get more active.
Goal by wedding -30 lbs. That will put me at a weight I have not been to for a long time. Could lose more per the BMI tables, but I will take it one step at a time. Look forward to getting to know you!

As a check I logged my breakfast and lunch. It was 810 calories total with 13 g of fiber. I looked up what is recommended for the intake of fiber and found I was right on where I need to be. I have found by and large that letting fiber, no sugar, and refined grains be my guide staying at a good calorie count for the day is not hard to do. I have plateaued for a couple of weeks now. No gain or loss. I feel good and am down a total of 17 pounds still. So happy about that. I have fiber as one of my parts of my diet I track. I did this in settings.
"The national fiber recommendations are 30 to 38 grams a day for men and 25 grams a day for women between 18 and 50 years old, and 21 grams a day if a woman is 51 and older. Another general guideline is to get 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories in your diet.Jun 2, 2011"5 -
I started my new book and it was talking about, What is your clutter keeping you from doing/being?
So I immediately put it to one side and wrote a couple of opening paragraphs of the second volume of my memoir. :drinker: I had been really putting it off, so it is a huge relief! After that I had such a burst of released energy that I grabbed my Exterminator and went round killing the pesky flies that had come into the house since the rain.
I've started, so I'll finish.
The book is called What Your Clutter is Trying to Tell You - uncover the message in the mess and transform your life, - by Kerri L Richardson.

Margaret - My calorie/fiber intake for bfast and lunch match yours exactly. I also come in around 60 gm carbs and 50 gm fats in these 2 meals. Evening meal - cut back on carbs but keep going with fats as I always have a small avocado in my salad.
Rebecca - Yes, seems like I eat close to the same thing every day, each meal. I normally have a scrambled egg with diced mushroom and a cup or so of chopped fresh greens - guess it's like a frittata. Right now have kale in the garden so that's what I use. Also have a slice of Ezekial 4:9 sprouted bread. Love that stuff, high in fiber. Lunch is always about 1/3 c of homemade canned applesauce - my own made with no added sugar and cooked down with the peels which I zing in with my stick blender, then a layer of chopped walnuts (maybe 1/2 to 3/4 oz), then a dollop of organic plain whole milk yogurt, then a handful of fresh or frozen berries, cherries, etc. That's about 1/2 cup. Stir all together and it's better than anything I can buy. Supper is big salad with plenty of coleslaw mix and perhaps added chopped romaine or spinach. Small avocado. Often homemade salad dressing with olive oil, garlic, yumminess. Meat if I have some available or maybe 1/3 c of whatever casserole DH is eating.
Mid afternoon snack is generally carrots or broccoli spears dipped in hummus and maybe cashews or pecans. Or walnuts or peanuts, whatever I have around.
It's easier for me since DH takes care of most of his meals and all I have to do is think of a meat and potato or veggie type dish twice a week that he can eat as leftovers.
Up until a month ago, my macros were around 50% carbs, 25% fats and 25% protein. Now it's 50% healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, butter, nuts) and 25% carbs - mainly from my slice of breakfast bread, fruit, and veggies. It's easy for me to eat this way and very satisfying.
Oh, and I discovered that 85% or 90% chocolate has a LOT of fiber and not many carbs. So a couple little squares of that is my dessert.
Carol - great hair color for you!!
NY Karen - welcome to the big cool off in S Africa - did you meet up with DD yet? Can't wait to see more pix!
Machka - hope everything makes it through the storm OK. Winter is not done with you yet!
Wendy - love your horse photos and stories. You have certainly found your happiness with them ;-)
Katla - we are smoky here too. With the temps predicted in the mid-90's, we won't be going outside much anyhow. Got a walk in and garden watered early this morning before the wind kicked up. Hope the weather is nice when the kids arrive. Do you have any outings planned?
Terry - how thrilling to hear what all you were able to get done! There's a will there's a way, right? Gorgeous photo of you by the way, love your beautiful smile!
Pip - wow, you are teensy to be able to slide in between those trailers. I would have gotten stuck if I could have even squeezed in an inch and the jaws of life would have been called, lol.
Ok ladies time to get busy.
Hugs,
Lanette

Saw the physical therapist today for an evaluation and came home with more pain than when I left. His conclusion was that imaging was the next step. He will send his report to my doctor so she'll have it when I see her tomorrow. I was hoping for a miracle that it would just take the right exercises and all would be well but that's probably not going to be the story. Jake keeps telling me that he's there for me and we can get through anything together.8
