Today I got to run a quick 1.95 miles after lifting weights. Well, sort of. First I got to spent a half hour listening to one of my supervisors explain (correctly) what Iโd done wrong on the last memo I sent him. Whoops. I thought about feeling super bad and down on myself afterwards, but instead I went for a run. I ran a little faster than Iโd planned, but my legs were up for it and it felt good.
I think Iโm doing taper backwards: last week I ran 22.5 miles including the half marathon (itโs still exciting just saying that in my head), which was the most Iโd run in a week. I only ran twice before the race and took an extra rest day but 13.1 kind of adds up. My quads are still yelling at me on the stairs, but didnโt hurt at all while I was running. /shrug
This week Iโm only set to run 17 miles after taking Monday off to rest. Weโre going out of town Thursday night through Sunday morning and I donโt know that Iโll be able to get a long run in this week. This probably wonโt be a good running trip, which is why Iโd wanted to do the race last weekend. So it goes - I signed up for a virtual 10-ish K (9 3/4 K, heh) for tomorrow which will probably be nicer than running in a mall parking lot anyhow.

Had to work until 2215 last night, got to bed by 2300 though. Up early, 0530,for PT session, upper body and core, then out the door for a long slow run as I have kinda flex hours at work when I need it. 5.07 miles in 1:03:13 which included the cool down walk. Temperature in the low 70's with 94% humidity, felt almost like it was misting during the run. Splits were great 13:26, 12:29, 12:09, 12:10 and 11:37. Mile 4 would have been negative split as well but for the traffic light. I think the new shoes are gonna work out just fine. Going to attempt a tempo run tomorrow, aiming for 11 minute/miles consistently for 3-4 miles after .5 mile warm-up. On the not wanting to have a phone with I use an Samsung Gear 2 which stores music, and run information as well.3

Love the monthly answers and race reports. Congratulations, everyone! And wtg @katharmonic on the sled; that must have felt wonderful!
Yes, all those in the path of the hurricane, please stay safe.
Those racing weight charts were a bummer. I haven't been the "non-runner" weight of 140 since I was in my teens. I've already blocked out the leanest weight it suggested. I also like ice cream too much for it to ever be attainable.
Today: 1.93 miles - C25K Week 4 Day 2
MTD: 9.69 / 25 miles3 -
No run this morning because the power was cut so the street lights were out. I don't own a headlamp so no run for me without street lighting. Ill do a gentle 5k tomorrow, and my long 10k run on Friday morning - Hubby is away over the weekend. One advantage of knowing you can do 10k in less than an hour means you know you can get it in on a Friday morning.
Thinking of everyone in the path of the hurricane! sounds pretty scary.4 -
Okay, definitely have peroneal tendinitis (or however it is spelled). No running for me this week until I can see the physio on Friday so I'm just going to lurk here grumpily.10

For my run this morning, the weather was a continuation of the coolness of yesterday, along with a light cooling misty rain in the air...that rain didn't last long but it felt really good while it did.

I was completely dressed to run after work...and then I heard thunder. A small pop-up has turned into a prediction of the next two hours being stormy.
Also, internet is down because of the storm. How am I supposed to watch the newest season of The Great British Baking Show on Netflix?!
This dayโs a bust! ๐

This is happening
= . Was supposed to do a 15k trail run tonight but with the rain yesterday and today turning everything into major mud bogs - plus the wind it's not happening. Declared rest day
The wind gust's are the worst part - they add some resistance if you are trying to run and a few degrees of windchill.
It's official they have declared that I am a Non-Runner.
My results say I am a runner.
Last major event 20km run over a mountain 369th of 1500 entrants. Only 793 made the 4.5 hr cutoff.
So does that make me 369 of 1500 or 369 of 793 ???9 -
9/6 3.45
9/7 3.1
9/11 3.15
Total 9.7 /60
Adjusted my goal from 100 to 60.
Scheduled for 4 tomorrow. Not sure I can get that in with my limited time in the AM but I will go for as long/far as I can.7 -

Thank you everyone for shout outs on the 5k race. I very much enjoyed reading everyoneโs race reports from last weekend. I should have taken notes so I could give shoutouts too, but so many posts now! Very nice run during soccer practice. The trail was very dry and in great condition. Pace felt good on th way out, but started getting weird knee pains during the third mile. They were quick, jabbing, and very painful. I decided to slow down a little and concentrate on my music and it went away. Not sure what that was all about, but hopefully a fluke. Have some stretching to do!

9/10 โ 9.24 warmup + XC workout + cool down
September running total to date โ 64.86
Nominal September mileage goal: 165 miles
Real Goals: Run Oak Tree well, winning my age group and finishing healthy. Build base/train toward Wineglass, running PG XC #1 so as not to be injured, and running the USATF Masters XC Championship so as not to be injured. Run Wineglass easy, finishing healthy for a good recovery in October.
Today's notes โ It rained late afternoon, and I thought I'd be running in the rain at club practice. I delayed leaving home so as not to have to wait in the rain, and dealt with heavier traffic than I'd like from being later; but the rain let up and it was 66ยบ F (19ยบ C) with overcast skies but no precipitation when I ran. The dew point was 63ยบ, but I guess you can't have everything.
Ran the warmup. The pre-workout talk went over results from PG XC #1, and mentioned a club member who ran his first BQ at Erie last weekend. 3:50:09, compared to a target of 3:55, so he can't register till Monday; but I expect to see him in Boston next April.
The stated cross country workout was 800 at T, 2 x 1000 at I, 800 at I, all with 3 minutes recovery; then 4 x 200m uphill strides. We have a standard loop that's 1000 m, with some grass, some easy trail, some down, and some up but nothing really steep. There was supposed to be a marker at 800m.
I never found the marker for 800m. The loop at T, by the time I knew I was past 800m it made sense just to run 1000. Then I just ran 3 x 1000 at I pace, jogged down and ran the strides. The 200m for the strides may have been a bit short, but the uphill nature was exactly as intendend: not terribly steep for the first 100 to 150 m, then a bit of a kicker to get to the Big Tree marking the end.
Topped that off with about a mile and a half cool down run, mostly with some other runners. Running with other people makes it easier for me to run slower, which is what I ought to be doing on a cool down.
Got to thinking, this is the first time in about a year that I've actually run the workout as planned and added a cool down run. Gearing up for cross country, starting with the easy workouts at the beginning of the season, has matched up well for a transition from base building to real training. And I should be in pretty good shape for Buffalo on the 23rd.
But the major priority remains the Wineglass Marathon. I'm thinking this will be a peak mileage week, and I'll try to get 20 miles in on Saturday. Then I'll need to taper. That will be interesting, since I'm just kind of winging the training on general principles and not following a specific plan.
But dang, it feels good to not feel injured and have a 9 mile evening with speed work be no big deal.

I wasn't going to run today - I felt very relaxed and loose after yoga so had happy thoughts of going home and reading a book in the sun. However, I have a man on the roof with a water blaster making a racket, and the nature of what he is doing (removing moss) means all the windows have to be closed and I can't sit on the deck. But the sun is shining and calling my name so I went out for a run anyway. Wanted to keep it short so headed to the park for a few sprints. Very pleasant once the feeling of wanting to hurl passed!!
