My goal since I am late and not good at this will be 17 miles for Sept (HERE GOES NOTHING)
9/12 - .54
Upcoming Race

No laughing here, you're doing totally awesome! I only ran my first full 5K this spring after taking the winter mostly off and spending last summer and fall gradually working up to 1 mile (and wow did that mile feel amazing!). You'll get there for sure if you're patient and persistent! I'm not sure what my "no walk break" record is right now because I stopped keeping track, but I did 10K without walking this AM, so it's at least twice what it was at the beginning of the year. The nice thing I learned is that other runners don't care if you have to walk from time to time because pretty much everyone walks sometimes!
I know you are right. Just used to be able to do a half and now I struggle to do a block. More laughing at myself then others laughing at me.
And hey I’m MN too BTW2 -

Nothing wrong with walk breaks! I've been running for years and still take walk breaks as needed. I count my miles if it includes running. If I just go for a walk I don't count those. But there are no rules so you do what works gor you. 😊7 -
9/1: 2 mi +ST
9/2: 4mi
9/3: 6.85mi
9/4: 1.5mi
9/8: 5.03mi

I worked late tonight but got in a 3 mile run when I got home. I’m really ready for fall to arrive.
@ContraryMaryMary I voted for you!!!7 -
Running glasses.
Ive tried running with some nice Oakley's which are fine but tend to bounce on my nose, but if i wear my hat just right i can wedge the ear pieces under it. They are hot since they wrap around.
I tried running in Rx sunglasses. Hmm, not really made for running and didn't work any better. (I looked famous).
I tried running in my rx driving glasses. Again with staying on the nose, sliding down constantly.
I tried some Wiley X rx glasses, (from work) and the ear piece broke. Taped them up an use them cycling.
Eye visit today. New doc. Old one was fine, not complaining- he did his part in getting my prescription correct and checking my eye health. New guy has been added to the practice. He suggested Oxygen brand. Said they are new, he wears them in the gym, lifting (really? 😝) running (more believable). So.. off we go to find them. They just came in. Not even out on the shelf yet. I agree to try them. Not what i expect, which was more of a sport style wrap around type.
I must say I'm very eager to try them on a run. I bounced around like a nerd in several pair, found one on fit and am very hopeful to have found an excellent choice. They are super light, which may help the sliding/bouncing issue.
Figured there may be other running nerds that need glasses. Oh wait? We're all nerds. Right? We all wear eye protection, right? (Answer Yes. And go get some cheapies if ya gotta).
What works for you?
Tldr. Yay new glasses!

The Oakleys that do the full wrap around your face are by far the most comfortable I found. I like them better than my Under Armour ones that I wear BUT the UA ones are darker, and fog up slightly less so I have to sacrifice for function.
Not heard of the ones you got, will have to try to remember to look for them.4 -
@ContraryMaryMary Good luck, vote was casted!
Wasn’t sure what I was going to run tonight during soccer practice. I started out aiming for three, but ended up going the extra mile. Practice is an hour and a half, so I had plenty of time. It took me a bit to get in a groove as I switched out my shoes with a pair with lower mileage and wasn’t loving the switch. After yesterday’s knee issue I decided to try switching the shoes out to a pair that I had retired early as I didn’t really like them. I’m being cheap at the moment as I missed that the new version was out, so missed the clearance of the old version. Anyway after about a mile, I was able to ignore the switch and was happy to get the mileage in. Trail was really pretty with the tree cover and it was nice to be outside.

I really like my Oakley's. But if i wear a hat, or about 2 miles into a run i get a bounce. I try to lift my head up, look further out, but on trails thats not always wise. I'd considered doing the Oakley's in rx.
Ill see if i can find a pic of these. I do worry about them not being wrap around. I have had my eyes burn before off the water in regular frames. Not sure if that would happen running.0 -
@Elise4270 I have Women's Oakleys. Everything else is too big for my head unless I go for kids. In the mornings I don't wear contacts, go blind LOL I kid. I can't read street names but I don't really need to. Races I always put contacts in since I have to drive and sometimes to places I've never been.
9/6 3.45
9/7 3.1
9/11 3.15
9/12 3.5
Total 13.2 /60
Felt strong. Pace came easy today. Only had time for 3.5 out of 4. I will do 3.35 and come out to 10 for the weekday runs (should have been 3, 4, and 3 so it all works out LOL).
Almost got hit by a truck this morning. I was watching them as they were sitting in their driveway as I plodded down the road. I was wearing a vest with reflective on it, bright orange shorts and had my light. As I got closer, they put the brake on and I made sure to shine my light more in their direction so they'd see me. They didn't go right away and then as soon as I was right next to the truck, started to back up. I had to stop on a dime. If I hadn't been paying attention/watching them I would have run right into them. No one in my neighborhood looks when backing out of their driveways for pedestrians or other cars.6 -
Ok, so only logging miles actually spent running since I need to get to 3.2 without stopping. So where as I went 1 mile today only actually ran .54 of that mile. -stop laughing. Lol
My goal since I am late and not good at this will be 17 miles for Sept (HERE GOES NOTHING)
9/12 - .54
Upcoming Race
Oct 27th - Monster Dash 5K
@pudgy1977 Everyone has to start somewhere. Today you ran 0.54 of a mile. It's a start, and something you can build on. It's more than where I started from.
Where I started from, I was trying to get to where I could run a 3.5 mile race without walk breaks. Found a program. The first week called for intervals of walk 1 minute, run 3 minutes. I walked one minute. I ran one minute, and was compelled to slow to a walk. I didn't measure the distance, but I'm very confident that one minute of running was significantly less than 0.54 mile.
I built myself a remedial program to build up to where I could start the 5K training program. And I got through the program, ran a 5K, ran a 10K, and ran that 3.5 mile race half a year later without stopping.
Today the email arrived notifying me that I've been accepted into the 123rd Boston Marathon. But I wasn't born a marathon runner. I started out just like you, running very short distances and working at making those short distances a little longer.
You can do this.17 -

Yep. This. I used to need to take a rest after walking the 20 or 30 FEET of my driveway to get the mailbox. We all start somewhere

September Running Totals (miles)
9/1 – rest day
9/2 – 15.80 warmup + Oak Tree Half
9/3 – rest day
9/4 – 7.23 warmup + XC workout
9/5 – 6.02 group run
9/6 – 6.05 warmup + XC workout
9/7 – rest day
9/8 – 14.23 paced run + solo run
9/9 – 6.29 warmup + PG XC #1
9/10 – rest day
9/11 – 9.24 warmup + XC workout + cool down
9/12 – 6.55 group run
September running total to date – 71.41
Nominal September mileage goal: 165 miles
Real Goals: Run Oak Tree well, winning my age group and finishing healthy. Build base/train toward Wineglass, running PG XC #1 so as not to be injured, and running the USATF Masters XC Championship so as not to be injured. Run Wineglass easy, finishing healthy for a good recovery in October.
Today's notes – After yesterday evening's speed work, I was ready for an easy run this evening. The temperature was a quite reasonable 73º F (23º C), but the dew point was somewhere in the mid-60s. Oh, well. I lived with that kind of humidity for two months, I can deal with another day of it.
There was a very low turnout. Like, 3 of us. The leader slowed down to keep the other guy company at a 9 to 9:30 pace. After I warmed up, I ran ahead on a familiar route. My legs felt heavy, which is familiar for two and a half weeks out from a marathon; but they got feeling better after about 4 miles. Part of that might have been that I adjusted the route to add more soft surface trail and have less asphalt and concrete.
I'd started out thinking I wanted 6 to 7 miles. By the time I got to 4.5 miles, I knew that I'd come in around 6.5 and that felt like it would be enough. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, and make a run time decision whether I'm doing speed work or just some easy miles at club practice tomorrow.
Last real long run Saturday, then I need to figure out what I'm doing for a taper in this informal, no fixed plan marathon training cycle.

@RunsOnEspresso Wow how little i know. Did not know there was a women's Oakley. I may relinquish these to DH, although he'd likely just lose them. Haha!
I was eyeing the kids choices. I need a good running hat and am sure I'll have to go with kids sizes because nothing i buy fits. I'm always tying the back strap rather than using the Velcro because theres not enough Velcro to stick to fit me.0 -

Tonight's group speedwork was a 50-minute tempo run, which is the longest we do in the training season. We did a 5 minute warm-up, the 50 minute tempo, 8 sprints, and then a 5-minute cool-down. I just kept telling myself "at least it's not another half marathon", which did help it seem not quite so bad. I had a lacrosse ball hit me in the back of the leg at one point (high school team practice on the field) which was a bit startling. Those high school kids are really trying to push it with me this week10 -

Same! I used to sit down to slice vegetables because I would get tired standing for longer than a minute or two!
I have an AC that works, and they only took MOST of my money. I hate paying for repairs, on the one hand I'm grateful but on the other it always feels rough to spend enough money to buy two new Garmin 935s and wind up with exactly what I had before it stopped working, ya know?5 -

I got mine at the vault store (outlet) and got 2 pair for like $100 or so. After an exhaustive search of every brand and sporting good type store.
My regular glasses are kids. They are the exact same as the adult, just smaller and $100 less on the frame. 😂3 -
