September Running Totals (miles)
9/1 – rest day
9/2 – 15.80 warmup + Oak Tree Half
9/3 – rest day
9/4 – 7.23 warmup + XC workout
9/5 – 6.02 group run
9/6 – 6.05 warmup + XC workout
9/7 – rest day
9/8 – 14.23 paced run + solo run
9/9 – 6.29 warmup + PG XC #1
9/10 – rest day
9/11 – 9.24 warmup + XC workout + cool down
9/12 – 6.55 group run
September running total to date – 71.41
Nominal September mileage goal: 165 miles
Real Goals: Run Oak Tree well, winning my age group and finishing healthy. Build base/train toward Wineglass, running PG XC #1 so as not to be injured, and running the USATF Masters XC Championship so as not to be injured. Run Wineglass easy, finishing healthy for a good recovery in October.
Today's notes – After yesterday evening's speed work, I was ready for an easy run this evening. The temperature was a quite reasonable 73º F (23º C), but the dew point was somewhere in the mid-60s. Oh, well. I lived with that kind of humidity for two months, I can deal with another day of it.
There was a very low turnout. Like, 3 of us. The leader slowed down to keep the other guy company at a 9 to 9:30 pace. After I warmed up, I ran ahead on a familiar route. My legs felt heavy, which is familiar for two and a half weeks out from a marathon; but they got feeling better after about 4 miles. Part of that might have been that I adjusted the route to add more soft surface trail and have less asphalt and concrete.
I'd started out thinking I wanted 6 to 7 miles. By the time I got to 4.5 miles, I knew that I'd come in around 6.5 and that felt like it would be enough. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, and make a run time decision whether I'm doing speed work or just some easy miles at club practice tomorrow.
Last real long run Saturday, then I need to figure out what I'm doing for a taper in this informal, no fixed plan marathon training cycle.

@RunsOnEspresso Wow how little i know. Did not know there was a women's Oakley. I may relinquish these to DH, although he'd likely just lose them. Haha!
I was eyeing the kids choices. I need a good running hat and am sure I'll have to go with kids sizes because nothing i buy fits. I'm always tying the back strap rather than using the Velcro because theres not enough Velcro to stick to fit me.0 -

Tonight's group speedwork was a 50-minute tempo run, which is the longest we do in the training season. We did a 5 minute warm-up, the 50 minute tempo, 8 sprints, and then a 5-minute cool-down. I just kept telling myself "at least it's not another half marathon", which did help it seem not quite so bad. I had a lacrosse ball hit me in the back of the leg at one point (high school team practice on the field) which was a bit startling. Those high school kids are really trying to push it with me this week10 -

My goal since I am late and not good at this will be 17 miles for Sept (HERE GOES NOTHING)
9/12 - .54
Upcoming Race
Oct 27th - Monster Dash 5K
@pudgy1977 Everyone has to start somewhere. Today you ran 0.54 of a mile. It's a start, and something you can build on. It's more than where I started from.
Yep. This. I used to need to take a rest after walking the 20 or 30 FEET of my driveway to get the mailbox. We all start somewhere
Same! I used to sit down to slice vegetables because I would get tired standing for longer than a minute or two!
I have an AC that works, and they only took MOST of my money. I hate paying for repairs, on the one hand I'm grateful but on the other it always feels rough to spend enough money to buy two new Garmin 935s and wind up with exactly what I had before it stopped working, ya know?5 -

I got mine at the vault store (outlet) and got 2 pair for like $100 or so. After an exhaustive search of every brand and sporting good type store.
My regular glasses are kids. They are the exact same as the adult, just smaller and $100 less on the frame. 😂3 -

Whoa almost 500 missed posts during my week's holiday, that'll take a while to catch up for. Ran 4 times while away, mainly swearing non-stop about the fact I didn't know beforehand that the place we were staying was high up on a hillside above the sea. Nice in that I started my runs downhill and ran along the beach, not so nice in that it meant I had a heck of an uphill walk back up afterwards which my knees weren't all that pleased about.
One unexpected bonus was there was a huge sports shop nearby with a LOT more choice in running shoes than my local one and gait analysis. The guy fitted me a pair of Adidas Solar Glide, which I would never have even dreamed of trying on.... took them out on my last run there and was actually pleasantly surprised, in fact my legs were less sore the next day than they had been. Hmmm, maybe my old Asics were actually ready to be retired after all even though they had very low mileage clocked up on them. He gave me a pair of Brooks Glycerin to try on and I really liked the cushioning, but he warned me I would probably break them down within a couple of months (and I'd been using the ones I was running in since mid-May). Thing is I have a brand new, identical pair of Asics to my old ones in the wardrobe waiting to replace them. Maybe I'll rotate the two for a while and see what happens.
I'd forgotten I'd signed up for another 5k race on Sept. 28th which covers a small part of the route of the December half marathon I'm finally (YAY!) about to start into real training for. Something to look forward to :-)
2/9: 3.88km
4/9: 9km
6/9: 5km
7/9: 5km

September goal: 75km. Completed so far: 32.04km. Finally got rid of that annoying .88 on the end but couldn't remember exactly what it was so overdid it but a few metres, will just start rounding them out so they don't annoy me lololol9 -
@MobyCarp - "Today the email arrived notifying me that I've been accepted into the 123rd Boston Marathon"

Sept goal - 32/60 miles

Or if you have pages. I could probably vote from each of my pages (I have 4 lol)2 -
@MobyCarp congrats on being accepted into Boston again! Impressive.
@sarahthes I can't even process those photos of snow in September.
@mbaker566 Speed Demon is so cute. She looks very satisfied with her run.
@ContraryMaryMary I voted earlier too - hope you win!
This morning was circuit training focusing on back, biceps and shoulders. Good to have a break for the legs. Then I did a yoga class because my schedule was unusual today so I had time. It was a really nice stretch and I wish I had time to take that class every week (or twice a week). Stupid work.7 -
@sarahthes Wow! That's pretty, but way too early in the year!1
-
The only months with no snow this year are May through August. Maybe we had some in May too. I know spring was awful.4

@PastorVincent yah I don't know their rules and I wouldn't actually do it but I bet some people do. I stopped entering photo contests based on likes because people would cheat or it was popularity not talent (for lack of better word) based.4

I did my run/walk for the scheduled 20 minutes today...well, actually 20:12. I managed to do 1.55 miles, so a 13 min/mile pace. I'm happy with that. With warm up and cool down walks, had a total of 2 miles. I am thinking about signing up for the Pioneer 5 mile race at Davy Crockett's birthplace in December. Hopefully, I can get down to 12 min miles by then. I know this is extremely slow for most of you, but I have never been a runner, so 12 min miles is a pretty lofty goal for me right now.
