Jeez @RubyRed427 ,your friend sound kinda bratty! Hopefully she's just being silly and joking,I'd feel hurt if someone kept on and on about me not drinking, everyone sounds really good I'm on day 11 after my choice to drink in September, still disappointed about it and I just feel like its time to get my act together! I wasted most of my 30's on drinking I sure as heck don't want to waste my 40's too, hope everyone has a super, sober Sunday!5

@RubyRed427 I’m so sorry your friend was such a punk. It sounds like she was both jealous AND b*tchy, but you handled it like a champ!
Today is day 75 AF. I intend to do this forever, so I know I’ll want to stop counting eventually... but for right now the counting is a source of pride and encouragement so I’m sticking with it ☺️ The last few days have been TOUGH and I am also one of those who is missing the temporarily chill factor of a glass (or 4) of wine... but I don’t miss the 3 am wake ups, or the hangovers, or the anxiety! Happy Sunday, friends 💙7 -
Well good news bad news I wound up in the hospital for cellulitis and a small clot in my leg after our flight back from vacation I need IV antibiotics good news l no longer drink so I don’t have to deal with the anxiety I had last time not being able to drink. The guy in the next bed has all the signs the veins in his face and the flush and now a small shake in his hands without a drink in 3 days12

@RubyRed427 OR your friend may have had a few too many. My "former" friend who got her 2nd DUI recently used to repeat, repeat, repeat cause she forgot she had already told me the same thing 6 times to the point where I had to tell her to STOP IT!!. SO annoying!!! But, it can be a symptom of too much. I've been guilty of it myself LOL!!
@Ke22yB Sorry for your health issue. My brother has had cellulitis & ended up in the hospital for 9 days a few years back. No idea why he got it, but it can be a recurring issue also. Hoping the best for you & a speedy recoup. Glad you're ok!!3 -
I've never had alcohol in my entire life so I cannot say I totally understand how it feels to be addicted to it. HOWEVER- I WANT TO CONGRATULATE ALL THOSE WHO HAVE, OR ARE WORKING ON, SOBRIETY! May God bless you all!6

@RubyRed427 Glad it was a nice time despite the insecure friend, trying to exclude you for choosing to have not have alcohol. Guess they don't need a DD then.. their loss!
@LC0924 I do miss that "false feeling" of relaxing with a bottle of wine, but I absolutely agree with not missing ANY of the anxiety, or dehydration, stomach issues (which turn to bad breath issues), and brain fog, liver damage, etc..
Hang in there! You're doing great!
@whitpauly I too wasted my 30s drinking, and am done living my life in a fog.
We can do it!
@Ke22yB Hope you get better quickly!!5 -
Just got through my first AF weekend in over 10 years.
Having done a weekend cycle helped my confidence.11 -
@73CL350 That's a huge accomplishment. How does it feel?
I had a conversation with my niece today who's 2 years younger. We're more like sisters actually. We hung together as kids & have remained close especially the past 15 years. Coincidently, we both developed a drinking problem in the past 10+years also...at least a daily one. We live a over a hundred KMs from each other so it isn't like we'd get together in person to drink on a regular basis, but often would have a glass or 3 or 4 over the phone at least once a week. Anyway, she's wanting to cut it out till the end of the month when she is having an engagement party for her daughter.
Of course, I've shared my experience with her & she has been a support for me through this and, at the same time, concerned about her own drinking, but not to the point of quitting. SO, it was very exciting to me that she is going to make a serious attempt to do so even if it only lasts till the end of this month. I referred her to Craig Beck, Annie Grace or Kevin O'Leary for support & who knows how it will affect her goal.
Even though we are close, because I'm not drinking & she continued to do so, it changed the dynamics of our relationship. We talk less now because we don't have our wine together anymore, so there was a bit of a loss that I've had to accept. The bottom line is that relationships DO change when we stop drinking!! It is a normal part of the process & can also be a difficult part!
Is anyone else experiencing this currently or perhaps for those who have been AF for decades can you relate? I'd love to hear your experience or struggle.2 -
Love this group!! I am officially not drinking anymore.. Was at a friends house friday night had a bit to much wine and was sick like a dog the next day... Not to mention fights with the hubby .. No good what so ever and I am done. I am a social drinker like twice a month.. But now it will be 0 a month7

Yes, usually 10 days is the most difficult period according to what others have shared on this thread. I just meant how did it feel to be AF for the first weekend in years. Likely a bit of a void I'm thinking...weekends are usually the most difficult to get through for the first while. So good for you!! You will get lots of support here.3 -
Good Morn Can someone recommend an iphone app for quitting drinking. My niece cannot find the app I use, but I think it is because I have a smartphone & the apps are different.1

I got through the weekend by locking myself in the house. Not a permanent solution I know... but it's what it took.8 -

Whatever it takes! I've given my son my car keys and let him take it somewhere when I've had terrible cravings before7 -

Is there any on the list here that you'd recommend? My niece found the apps, she isn't sure which to use.
@73CL350 Congrats on 10 days! Any physical withdrawal is over, but the emotional/psychological withdrawal can last much longer. Have you checked out any YouTube videos on quitting drinking? Very helpful to me & others here. Hope they can help you to stay sober also.

Hi Friends, I have a day off today, so I’ll catch up with things around the house. Last week, I was in a minor car accident; a young 18 year old smashed into my new convertible. I was so bummed. It’s still unrepaired due to the boy’s insurance taking so long. BUT through it all, I never thought of drinking. I am also so happy when I am driving that I have zero alcohol in my system. I wake up refreshed and relieved to be hangover free. I know this is nothing new to many of you AF friends, but I am still delighted that I do not use alcohol as an escape. I cant even add up how many lost hours of time was spent drinking and then lying in bed with hangovers.
And another plus is I’ve cut my credit card bill each month has been cut in half. No more drunk purchases like concert tickets to people I don’t even want to see, or no more higher grocery bills or liquor store purchase; no more bar bills from several times a week..... the financial aspect is a huge savings.
Another regret I have lately is the lost experiences- the times when I was drunk and dont remember a good country music concert, or the mornings teaching with an upset stomach from too much wine the night before... so much time wasted that I can never get back. Wishing you a strong, healthy weekend full of exercise, productivity, relaxation and a good book.9 -

My son has been very sick. And he just cries and cries. Thursday night I only got 2.5 hours sleep.
One of the things I most looked forward to about quitting drinking was feeling better in the mornings. And my mornings have been a huge struggle...
this morning was the first one that felt different. I woke up without my alarm just as the sun was coming up and stood up immediately... and went out to the sunroom and soaked in the hot tub for 20 minutes. It was in the low 40's and the sun beams highlighted the steam coming off the water. No jets, just silent soaking and relaxing.
And I feel SO refreshed. Hoping this is a new chapter.11
