What irks me the most is seeing powerlifter dudes advocating a 5x5 program of heavy lifts to people who have never in their life done a push-up let alone touched a free weight.
Advocating heavy lifting to someone who has no experience in form, technique and the fundamentals of movement for any given exercise, is simply asking for a serious injury.
Actually most 5x5 programs are beginner programs that start you off very light and teach you form.
While technically yes, that is true, however that is Not how I've seen them promoted on here.
It's usually "You need to lift heavy to a 5 rep max", with no reference at all about form, technique, experience or safety.
That's what scares me.0 -
"How do I log sex in my exercise log?"
Sorry, but unless you're a porn star, you probably burn more calories putting the groceries away:laugh:

"So and So has completed their food diary and was under their calorie goal"
*looks at diary, consists of nothing but 800 calories worth of McDonalds*
"WTG!" "Great job!" "Keep up the good work!"
Absolute delusion.0 -
Personally I see newbies come on and ask serious questions because they are confused about all the information out there and you always have to have one snarky person be totally nasty for some unknown reason. Do you not have anyting better to do then to lurk about and try to make people feel bad??0

when people say oh "i've lost so much weight on the HCG diet" duhhhhhhhh if you eat only 500 calories a day of course you would lose weight!
Feel free to friend me for calorie free food for thought everyone! ;0) Colleen0 -

Response: "good job! KEEP GOING GIRL!"0 -
it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you don't go over your calorie goal...
does this mean I can eat a whole package of Oreos and still lose weight as long as that's all I eat all day???
Actually yes, haven't you seen the Twinkie diet? You will lose weight but your nutritional numbers/insides will suffer severely with the lack of nutrients, vitamins and overabundance of sugar.0 -
Sure eat all the twinkies you want and lose weight. But don't mention the adverse health effects. What is the point of losing weight if you don't live long enough to enjoy it???0

I saw someone post that vegetables are "negative calories."
man, I was gonna use that one! haha0 -
"The fat you eat is the fat you'll wear"0

"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." :noway:
I've been skinny. There's lots of things that taste better.0 -

Oh I despise that saying...I can understand "nothing taste as good as BEING HEALTHY feels" but not skinny....0 -
Drinking mass amounts of water and/or ONLY counting plain water as water
Pretty much anything that starts with "you must"0 -
To quote myself:
Running is terrible for you! It will make your uterus fall out and your knees explode into fiery balls of light. Avoid running at all costs. You've been warned...
I just had a hysterectomy, after running for 2 years. And here I thought it was other reasons. Had I know it was running, I'd have done it years ago - I feel great Lost a pants size and 10 more lbs. Super advice!0 -
Has everyone forgotten that a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat?
I've actually never seen that posted, though I have seen several posts that say muscle weighs more than fat. Which, of course, is completely different. completely true and has nothing to do with pounds. Muscle wieghs more even if you use kg or ounces.1 -
Here are some common fitness advice I've seen thrown around that need to be debunked:
Common: Only eat whole foods
Instead: Only eat things that have been broken into pieces; that way, all the calories fall out.
Common: The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your metabolism slows down.
Nope. The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat are really good friends.
Common: The advantage of exercising everyday is that you become healthier.
The way I see it, the advantage of exercising everyday is that you die healthier.
Common: Swimming is good for your figure
If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me
Common: Sit-ups, crunches help prevent you from getting a little soft around the middle
Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups and crunches if you want a bigger stomach.
Common: Fried foods are bad for you
Get with the times! Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
Common: No Pain...No Gain (my current avatar)
Gonna have to change it to No Pain...Good1 -
This reminds me fo another EPIC thread some time ago.... someone posted some bad advice, and when her diary was looked at, she's actually logged teaspoons of sperm!!!
[/quote]
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Well, sperm has protein in it. My husband got excited about that one until he realized that it doesn't have enough for me to want it...... LOL0 -
It wasn't on here but someone on another message board I look at was advocating that if you gain weight after giving up smoking you should start smoking again!!!!
Funny stuff!!! Well, when you quit smoking it actually does slow your metabolism for a short period of time...but it will even out. HAHAHA.0 -

Love this one...but why settle with just smoking, I am sure there are plenty of other fun bad things you could incorporate!!
Where can I sign up for a cocaine habit?0 -
I saw someone post that vegetables are "negative calories."
I was going to mention this one. Really?! I saw a whole list of "negative calorie foods." If it were that easy, I wouldn't be here.
I think in general there are many people who are misinformed, give that advice to others, and just aren't receptive AT ALL to anything that goes against their opinion. Irritating.0
