I took a walk back in my neighbor's field today and used my new Garmin for the first time!!! I like it, even though I just used it for distance and calories burned. Walked 1.6 miles in 30 minutes. At least I got out of the house and did something. Hoping to get back into an exercise routine, of sorts, soon.10

Yes, we have them all over the USA. At least in the several states I have lived in we have them. Often they are set to music, sometimes they are just displays, sometimes a mix. We have not been to this one yet so not sure what we are in for yet.2 -

Looks like there is a twitter account, and that image shows up 16th of January, 2014.
Good work. I think that probably is the original. I will try to keep it around and use that one instead of the ones that have the name removed.
Thanks!

The It's a Wonderful Run 5k tonight was an experience! The race is in Seneca Falls, NY, which was the inspiration for Bedford Falls in the movie It's a Wonderful Life. There were over 5000 runners on streets not really wide enough to accommodate that, especially when many people were walking. Despite the strongly worded email that went out beforehand telling walkers and strollers to line up WAY in back, and that everyone should line up by the appropriate pace flags, that of course did not happen. It's definitely a fun run type of event, with everyone dressed up as Santas, Christmas trees, reindeer, etc, so I don't think you can expect it to be a really serious event, but it was really frustrating to try to navigate through the walkers.
Despite that, the spirit of the race was fun and there were a lot of people out in their yards with fire pits going and some passing out some real holiday cheer in the form of various alcoholic drinks. I had a little shot of Fireball at about mile 2 that really boosted my performance and cleared the lungs. By that time, there was a little more room to navigate so I picked up the pace quite a bit in that last mile. It was my slowest 5k in a couple of years but I had fun and felt good in that last mile. Given I was sick much of the week and I haven't done any races or speedwork for over a month, it was nice to feel like I wanted to run fast(er) again.16 -

Luckily I caught myself before I went down, but I still made quite the spectacle of myself. Sigh.
11.0/38.0 miles for the month
I used to walk on the treadmills at the gym between classes and got dumped off the back of one when I had a sudden sneezing fit. I thought I hit the shut down button, but obviously not! I managed to keep my feet under me, but between that and the doubled over sneezing I garnered way more attention than I liked! Now I pretend I didn’t see it if someone has a mishap, but they are okay.
I can’t believe I am telling this story. There is a treadmill mishap more embarrassing than falling off a treadmill. When I first started running, I bought some cheap sports bras from Walmart that zip up the front. Sweaty sports bras are a nightmare to get out of. I thought it was a smart purchase. NEVER buy cheap Walmart sports bras!!!!
I think some of you know where this is going. One mile into my huffing and puffing treadmill run attempt, the zipper broke. I was wearing a shirt but all the gentlemen (on the full row of 6pm, after-work, gym mirror facing treadmills) saw what happened. I tried to act casual and stop the treadmill while simultaneously speed walking to the bathrooms. At least they all waited until I walked out of the cardio room to bust out in laughter.
This is why Walmart and treadmills suck. I refuse to take part in either of these things for the rest of ever.
I gave you a hug because I feared the worst: You had been running in the bra and no T-shirt?0 -
Dec 02 - 21.1 km Carman’s Women’s Half Marathon. 2:08:08.6
Dec 04 – 07.0 km
Dec 06 – 10.0 km
Dec 07 – 07.0 km
Dec 09 – 12.0 km
After a marathon and 4 half marathon events in the past 8 weeks, I'm feeling like some down time. Today's long run was only 12 km, but I really enjoyed it.

@Orphia Haha! No, this was at my highest weight though. My ta-tas were much bigger then. I was mortified at the time. It took me 3 months to gather the courage to step back into the gym. LOL

Hey all. Well I'm in a funk. Post race funk? But it's been 3 weeks...
So in the two weeks after the race I managed 3 runs, a couple of 8ks and a 5k. And since the 1st I've been running everyday, I managed to get back up to an 8k run, but since then my mojo has just departed. It's weird. The last couple of days I found it hard for scheduling reasons - had to get something in because hubby was leaving for a tournament and had to get in before he left.
Blah just venting. Hopefully tomorrow when I get out I'll be better, but I just feel annoyed and almost can't be bothered. This is so much easier when working toward something! Sadly my next race isn't till July. Grrr16 -
For those that admired my weta, they come in a giant species. Freakishly cool and thankfully all living on a island a long, long way away from me.

Hi everyone, I'm a million pages behind but I'm home, I survived, I loved it and I love you all. But I don't think I'll be walking much tomorrow lol. Photos once someone tells me how to do that spoiler thingy so I don't blow up everyone's phones :-)

Spoiler tags are the word "spoiler" in square brackets to start, then your images, then "/spoiler" in square brackets to finish. So this:
[ spoiler][ img]https://content.active.com/Assets/Active.com+Content+Site+Digital+Assets/Running/580/meme-14.gif[/img]
turns into this if you remove the spaces after the "["s
Can't wait to see the photos

Oh geez, this was the first thing I saw when I logged on here this morning. That is a big bug!
It stormed ALL DAY yesterday, so I broke out my 10 year old Turbo Jam dvd to mix things up. Rain is clearing out this morning, so I am hoping to get in a run.

@_nikkiwolf_ thanks! Let's see if this workshttps://ibb.co/6bQqdMRWhen I signed myself up and it asked what time I intended doing I worked out what 8 minutes per km would be as I was pretty sure I could drag myself that speed (though I even had my doubts about that at some points in training!) so put myself down for 2 hours 48 minutes.

I felt great until kilometre 13 or so, saw some funny things, had a few giggles, saw my husband and daughter on a corner..... kilometres 14 to 17 were hard going, my knee started to feel sore and there were a few "wtf am I doing this for" thoughts. Then we turned back towards the city centre and I realised there were only 4km to go and picked up. Passed a few people who had run out of gas, munched on a few jelly babies and got back in the game. I passed the 20km marker at 2 hours 22 and got it in my crazy head I should try to finish in under 2 and a half hours. Missed it by 19 seconds, dammit! My legs will tell me all about why that was a really stupid idea tomorrow no doubt, but for today I'm happy! Average pace according to my app was 7 minutes per kilometre. I'll take it!
For now I'm pretty much decided I'm doing another one on March 24th. Hopefully my legs and knees will agree after a few days rest and a the rest of December in easy run/recovery mode.
ETA not quite how I wanted to photos to work, lol still learning!19 -

We have one by my house the local running group takes an unofficial run thru every year. I go thru it now and then.
It's free but they accept donations for the macc fund. (Candy cane lane, west allis, wi)
There are bigger ones. This is one the neighborhood decided to do to raise money for a good cause. So people looking for homes have to decide if they are willing to make the commitment if they want one in that neighborhood0 -
Wow, @eleanorhawkins ! Sounds like you really nailed it! Well done!1

I don't mind tarantulas and giant empress scorpions but
NOPE and PUT THAT DOWN comes to mind3 -
@ContraryMaryMary Well that is one big bug! No worries about that one getting in your ear while you sleep!
@Avidkeo i think we all lose motivation from time to time. I know i do. There's nothing wrong with a break, and when this funky no-wanna-run mood hits, all you can do is embrace it hoping its the result of a subconscious need. Go for walks, swim, have a bike ride or try to anything until it passes.
Worst thing for me is having a great run and expecting all of them to be great. Yet in reality, 1 in 20+ are great runs.
I'm currently trying to get over the fear of running. I'm afraid if i run, it'll hurt again. So no run, no hurt. But then I'm not training like i want too. And I think I'm just waiting for this year to be over so i can magically start anew.
Good luck. Do some soul searching. Maybe you can figure out the where the wall is and plot to climb it. If you figure it out, please share because we all hit this from time to time and it'd be nice to have some insight how to manage it.
Think of weta zombies? You must run.4 -
