Upcoming races:
January 4, 2019 Hilo to Volcano Ultra 50k Relay. In memory of @keeprunningfatboy

ETA thanks @rheddmobile ! I think your comment "its like having a thrid arm" got him. We ran and for some reason changed his mind on spending a bit more for my first tablet. I do love it. Now its just how much Android stuff do i want to integrate.
@amymoreorless I want it for the TM and something secret... Haha! Sheesh i can not keep a secret from you guys. I decided to take a few classes, give me something to momentarily succeed at. One is online. I thought it would be easier than the laptop especially when I'm out and about (work lunch). I'll hotspot my phone for internet access. I needed more cool stuff in my life anyway. Be good for that long plane ride in a few weeks too.
@PastorVincent thats the ipad i got. Yes i want the pencil, but figured to purchase that myself at a later date since dh was already so generous (with OUR money).6 -

Merry Christmas Eve everybody!
It was freezing this morning, in a generally-nice-day-for-running kind of way. It's been a really dry winter so far here so only had to duck a couple of icy puddles. Had a great run for the most part, except my laces kept coming undone - my Mizunos have short slippery laces that I keep forgetting about. Need to google some fancy knots.
@msarobix Welcome! I hate the treadmill, it bores me to tears. Watching sports and action movies help some.
@Elise4270 I had this long-*kitten* reply typed out about android tablets and then realised you'd just gotten an iPad! LOL. Congrats on the purchase and hope you love it! Oh and I'm currently learning German on Duolingo as well. *virtual handshake*5 -

@Elise4270 Woo hoo, very exciting!!! You're going to love it!
I don't want to sound like an evangelist, but my iPad changed my life for the better in so many ways.
More productivity, more creativity, more learning. I've done several health and fitness courses on FutureLearn.
What's your class?

@noblsheep aw darn it. I may have gone with the Samsung had I had just one person not use/love the iPod! Ah well. Sending virtual high five on the German lessons. There maybe a way to add friends. I had one person try to add me as a friend or something and I emailed tech support telling them I didn’t want any friends. Hahah, there’s no way yet to be unfriendly. Maybe we can find one another. Somehow.
@Orphia I’m taking nutrition and developmental psychology. Easy peasy stuff I like.4 -
Saturday 22; Did a short 6.3 km on Westbrook hiding from the wind. -19C so a wee bit chilly.
It's actually the first time this winter that I added a layer, 2nd tech shirt and light fleece under my wind pants so 2 thin layer's and my legs were soaked - to much heat retention but I know that I would have been cold without the 2nd layer. Also traded out my light spring/fall jacket for my slightly heavier winter jacket so didn't quite get the clothing/venting right. Looks like I will be about 200km less than last year - just to many life conflicts.

After 5 days of almost complete rest apart from a couple of very short walks and some upper body strength stuff I decided yesterday I couldn't bear it any more and as my legs were finally starting to feel mostly ok I promised myself a run today. Tonight is the main celebration here in Spain, we spend it with my inlaws and let's just say it's difficult on good years and this doesn't look likely to even be a good year. So yeah, it was mental health over knees today. Was awake by 6am for some reason, so I was out by 7. Ahhhh it felt good to finally be running, albeit VEEEEEERY slowly. Bit worrying at times as I'm not used to going out that early and some parts of my route were very dark. I could see the general direction I was going in, but couldn't actually see the floor I was running on and not being ablt to see where I was about to put my feet worried me a bit, so I took a detour down to the beach, where there are streetlights at least. Anyway, I blew the cobwebs out of my head and lifted the mood a lot. Knees felt ok while running but during my cool down/walk home they (especially the 'bad' one) started feeling tight again. I really hope I haven't upset them again. Oh well, at least I won't feel so bad about the extra calories tonight, whatever they do.
IF the legs are ok I might JUST be able to hit this month's goal, otherwise I'm doomed to fail even though it was a conservative one. Suck it and see time.

@Elise4270 Congratulations! You will love it. Let me know when you have had a chance to try out some of the running trail & class apps that I told you about. Let me know if you need any more app suggestions.
I have also use Duolingo for Spanish. I have tried other learning apps as well and here are some of my favorites: Memrise, Drops, Rosetta Stone. I think all of these have multiple different languages to learn. Another one that hasn't been updated and I can not longer use but absolutely loved was Mind Snack. I really hope the developers of this app decide to update so it will work with the new iOS.
One of my goals for 2019 is to keep up with my daily language practice.5 -

Great choice! Congrats!0 -
Hey my fellow iPhone/iPad users... do any of you have an app to track your medication? MFP does not see to do that and well.. I have a friend that needs to make sure they take a pill twice a day but is pretty forgetful.2
-
12/1-9 Totals: bike 41 minutes, run 39.1km
12/10-16 Totals: bike 40 minutes, run 40km
12/17-23 Totals: swim 90 minutes, run 39.8km
***1,000 miles for 2018 AND 4,000 km since I started running!!!***
12/24 - run 21.2k
Long run on clear sidewalks/roads in December, with pretty snow-globe conditions later in the run - it's hard to beat that this time of year. Once again I'm bad at 12-mile runs. I got home and couldn't even get my shoes off before the "it's just once around the block to get to HM distance" in my head won and I was back out the door. My streak (at least one HM-distance run per month) has been restarted!

BTW - if you are shopping for Apple Products, ALWAYS check
https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished
Outside of some Black Friday style sale, that link will almost always get you the best price. Pretty sure all of my Apple stuff for the last 10 years has come from that link.

I use the calendar reminders for things I need to remember. Like trash pickup - there are now 6 categories of trash that get automatically picked up, and each has it's own schedule. I just don't have the extra mental energy to keep track of that along with everything else in my life, so I put them all in the calendar and now I get notifications the evening before with what needs to go out on the curb.
I also know of others who just set up alarms on their phone to remind them to take their meds.2 -
i had a run. it was nothing in particular but i spread comfort and joy because Old Girl wanted to give everyone hugs.

December Total: 133k
December Goal: 100k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Would have been a nicer day for running if the wind hadn't been strong and gusting out of the south.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!!7 -

I used to use alarms when I first started my current med.3 -

Did 3.0 very hilly miles in my childhood neighborhood this morning. Thanks to a couple of unplanned sprints when I encountered not-so-friendly (but thankfully small/slow) dogs, my average pace was 11:29 minutes/mile. Lol. Now I won't feel quite to guilty about tonight's family dinner.
28.5/38.0 miles for December so far.
Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!10 -
@msarobix I love the BitGym so far! I’m actually looking forward to a TM run. I downloaded the peloton app, but have yet to open it. I think the BitGym is going to my new best indoor friend! Thanks!
ETA if anyone is on duo and wants to add me, I’m Elise4270 there too.2
