I confess to eating a whole frozen pizza last night after being trapped in our barn by the cows for an hour in my attempt to feed my chickens. Finally got to feed the birds, then got followed back to the house by the cows. Nothing like having five full grown 1200+lb animals trailing you to make you nervous.
How did they manage to trap you?! yeah, I’m not sure I would be happy about that situation either
Lois, my friend, these are somewhat high strung animals that weigh 1200-1500 pounds each. If they get in your way, you're pretty well stuck until they decide to move. And when they want to be fed, they aren't inclined to move. Or when they see you putting out hat, they are inclined to hurry on over.
I have two broken toes courtesy of Guernsey milk cows who thought I was too slow about feeding.2 -
After starting counting my calories again one week before Christmas, I promised myself the only "cheat day" would be like a donut on that day. Well - today it all went to h***. I got so hungry. I confess that I ate McDonald's fries, sausage Mcmuffin, boston cream donut, large coffee, grilled cheese... on top of my 400 calorie lunch I so carefully pack every day. Better stay on track for the next few weeks. Send help, I can barely breath lol. But sometimes when I just give in, i'm okay to go for another few weeks and its out of my system. It's just that I want to scale to go down quicker than what it will take if I do this the healthy way. I gotta forgive myself for today and move on.3

Hang in there. Get some planning ahead done. Eat enough so you aren't hungry.0 -
@melissafeagins - what is the latest news from up there?0

Something started a fire in a building that was out of production for maintenance (thank God) at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. They made a decision to let it burn because putting it out was harder/more dangerous than a controlled burn. Unfortunately, that also means that there was one large explosion and two smaller ones.
We had already received the one patient who discovered the fire for observation, but no one warned us that there was explosive dust all over the building so when it went off the first time and shook the freaking whole town, panic ensued for a little bit.
ETA: my local paper has coverage: www.timesnews.net
The link breaks when I try to copy it.
ETA again: the bit about it being down for maintenance came from a friend who works there. It is not mentioned in the news article. Live munitions in production would have been a disaster of epic proportions.2 -

Just some advice. Don't go about this in a way that you're trying to make the scale go quicker. Look at it in a way that you want it to be sustainable for life. I find if I want the scale to go quicker, eat way too healthy, or try to eliminate all my favorite junk foods & do swaps that I don't find satisfying. This more times than not will lead me to have a massive binge that will get my spirits down & then possibly start a long binge over other days.
Every few weeks I might have what some consider a 'cheat day,' but I make sure it fits into my overall maintenance calories for the week or at least will leave me a small deficit.10 -

I chucked logging anything pretty much for the last few weeks. I can't remember the last day I completed and closed out. My former good habits have gone out the window. The craziness of the year is over and time to get back to what I need to do. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and new year.
We are all mostly doing a reset.0 -
Christmas decorations are down, we have a very sad looking tree now. I won’t be able to dispose of it until tomorrow, so a sad tree for the evening it is.
I have 2 mince pies left and that is the Christmas food done for this year.
Looking forward to a new start on Monday3 -
I start back at work on Tuesday after over a year off. I cannot remember any usernames, reference websites, passwords or procedures. I have this stuff all written down in various places but we moved premises while I was away. I really hope nobody threw out my stuff during the move!5

Confession: I have taken nothing down yet.0 -
One of my scary new year's goals is to basically be a better Christian/church member. Basically, not just someone who shows up on Sunday, sits in the pew for an hour, and that's it for the week.
I go to a biggish church (I think about 3000 members altogether). So, to keep the church more personal, they do Groups, where people meet during the week outside of church. The group can have any type of focus. There are fishing groups, and board game groups, and biking groups...all kinds of things. I've meant to join a group for a couple years, but have been scared to. Plus, all the women's groups are like scrapbooking or tea parties... I was always interested in the men's groups, football and ATVing, etc.
So, Sunday, in church, my pastor has me stand up during his sermon, introduces me as a powerlifter and uses me as an example of how you need a "spotter" in life. :blushing: After the sermon, a lady in a wheelchair comes up to me and tells me she's a powerlifter, too. The wheelchair threw me off, but she explained she's a full-leg amputee due to a motorcycle wreck and lifts wearing a prosthesis. Long story short, she and I are going to start our own group for anyone interested in lifting weights. Twice a month at the local rec center.
I'm terrified. I'm terrified I won't be Christian enough. My inner introvert is terrified. I also see God's plan behind the whole thing. Crazy and amazing and super scary!

Christianity is a practice. Don't worry you won't be 'enough'. You grow. Get out there!3 -

We get up to a year off in the UK, with the first six weeks on 90% salary, then a fixed £135 a week for 33 weeks then nothing after that. But you are entitled to any holidays you would have accrued while on parental leave, so I tracked all those on to the end of my leave making it about 13 months off. Our maternity pay is actually quite rubbish compared to a lot of European countries, but infinitely better than the USA! I don't know how you manage. I don't understand why your policy makers don't value parenthood more (not just motherhood, after the first few weeks, the dad can take the leave instead of mum if they want to).0 -

That must be exciting and terrifying all at the same time. Are the kids going to daycare?
I work two full days. They'll spend one day with daddy (should be interesting as due to Ellie's boob obsession he's never had both kids for a full day himself) and one day in nursery. That is a painful day for me as a day in nursery eats up over 75% of my day's pay. No wonder so many women give up work. Thankfully Andrew is entitled to some free nursery hours in April, so the pain is temporary.0 -
I've packed myself a yummy but healthy lunch so if everything goes terribly tomorrow for my first day back at work, at least I've got something tasty to look forward to. I know how to motivate myself!8

Day 5 of the Spinal Situation
So- I have a familiar pain in my right ankle... this encouraged me to call the practice where my doc used to be - I can’t get in to see my doc till 1/11.
When I called they pretty much suggested calling dr G- my old doc that i love. Advised I did but can't get in till next Friday and I am in pain and can hardly move. They said that was a miracle that I got an appointment in just a week - usually it takes over a month to get in.
I have an apt at my old practice tomorrow as a stop gap till next Friday when I see dr G. The scheduled all but said Dr G was a better surgeon than their current staff.
I am so afraid of another back surgery.
Good luck with the back problems!0 -

My company last year matched paternity to maternity so guys get 6 or 8 weeks too. Still sucks for people like me who never had kids. I think they should have matching time off for singles or couples without kids.0 -

@Oberon21 I think that given 6 weeks paid leave, you would finish that dissertation and find a new job. Just sayin'...1 -

I work with the world's largest group of Henny Penny people. I admit freely that I complained on my feed here about the person who let us run out of coffee filters. But *before* I did that, I texted my manager and asked her buy some on the way to work, which she did, without complaining about my texting her at 7:15am.
Every other person I spoke to about with one exception (who knew about this problem yesterday afternoon and brought her own coffee from home this morning) was all "they are going to stop buying us any supplies at all" even going so far as to take paper plates, napkins and plastic utensils to their desks to hoard.
I realize that the C suite bosses are partly responsible for that because they announced yesterday that they will no longer buy individual liquid creamer, Splenda or Sweet-n-Low. They will still provide powdered Coffeemate, which has no redeeming nutrients, sugar and Equal. The problem is that they made this announcement on the Monday that my department ran out of coffee filters. The decision was made because we have 14000 employees now and people put the Splenda packers and individual creamers in their purses/ pockets and take them home. (I've seen people do it.) My old employer merged with our nearest competition last year and now we need to save serious cash because they had a billion dollars in debt. Sorry, guys, this is the cost of doing business. And if you hoard the plates, etc. The C suite may decide only to provide them for special occasions.
In addition to this, no one named Henny Penny actually knows how to make coffee that isn't in a pre-measured filter pack. I gave up and went to the coffee shop after work. I have instructions that I will type up and put by each pot tomorrow because I want decent coffee.6 -

Getting better -- just the meds are making me gain weight at a RAPID speed - 5 lbs in 5 days and I have been in a deficit. I would rather gain than hurt.
Thanks for checking on me!!!!!!!!!2 -

This sucks but makes total sense. The sad thing is you probably cannot bring your own creamer and leave in the refrigerator without other folks using it. Maybe if you put it in a container labeled "BREAST MILK" just a thought.
I am in an office of only 4, and I am a very motherly type. I have supplied coffee, cream, paper plates and everything for a couple years. About 3 months ago I decided enough was enough and started bringing 2 k cups per day for my own personal use. Another finally took the hint and bought a box of K cups and the owner bought a huge stack of plates.
Sadly, sometimes you have to smack folks over the head. On a positive note - my crew actually washed their own dishes yesterday. This is a MAJOR step!!!5
